The location was good not great. Close to stuff but still a bit of a walk. I was happy with the value. Comfortable room and clean. It looks like the place has recently been renovated. A bigger pool and hot tub would be nice.
I was looking for the best hotel for the most reasonable price that accepted dogs. This was the one that I found using Hotels.com and Yelp and other resources. They honored my reservation made late last year and I was able to bring my dog. That was really great. The rooms were very nice, very clean. It was an excellent value for the money. Some people complained about the noise but I did not notice any problems with that. Staff was very nice and allowed me to keep my trailer parked in the lot while my boat was on the water. That allowed me flexibility during my visit. The front parking lot was very tight and very full. The back lot was not accessible due to construction but I assume that would free help once construction ceased. They no longer accept dogs. I would go back again if they allowed dogs still. In fact, it would be the only place I would go while staying there. The fridge is a little small but many food options were nearby so storing food is not really highly necessary.
Pool, hot tub I paid $200 for basically a motel with a cuter looking front. The place seems like it needs a fix up and not just cosmetic. I've NEVER stayed in a hotel with no a/c..you should at least advertise that there's no a/c. We heard every footstep of the guests above us. I'd never stay again
-We were allowed to check-in early (11am!) -The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. -The fireplace was very romantic and made the room toasty. -The outdoor pool was heated and clean.
Modern room update. Extra sink/ mirror outside of bathroom which is always useful. Very clean. Comfortable bed and bedding. Fireplace which would be lovely in cool weather. Centrally located. The safe in our room would not open and my things were in it. The hotel staff could not fix it although the maintenance guy was able to get it open. The manager gave us a voucher for the restaurant which was appreciated. Small room size. No air conditioning which I realize they don't need very often, but it was quite warm when we were there.
We often stay in Monterey and we very much like this place. It's location is great if you don't mind walking a little, and the rooms are nice, clean and well-equipped. The amenities are small -- workout room, pool, etc... but when in Monterey there isn't a reason to stay at the hotel anyway. During peak season, the rooms are a little pricey here
Clean. Nice nice room.
The check in person was helpful and friendly. The check out person was defensive. Room is too crowded with stuff. Lack of space for luggage and yourself. We were on first floor where they recommend locking windows plus people could see in. Two small windows on the parking/alley side did not provide enough air considering there was no A/C. Also very noisy in the morning on that side. Add to that was the fact the screens were ripped. TV had a cheap, crappy remote. The location is only okay. Price too high for the product.
Staff was fantastic- just very accomodating, friendly and really made an effort to make the stay enjoyable. Can't say enough about the staff. I was sitting reading on their pretty outdoor patio and they offered me a glass of wine, even though the bar wouldn't be open for another few hours. Room was really great- spacious, updated fixtures and hardware (felt like a swanky room), and without any ambient noise at all. Plush soft towels, comfortable bedding- the whole experience just made us both feel like "ok, we're staying at a NICE hotel." We were on the second floor facing the street and really didn't get any street noise at all either. If we're ever back in the area, we will definitely stay here again.
Parking was limited
Very clean and loved the Jacuzzi tub and heated floors, the beds were super comfortable and I loved the in wall fireplace. The bathroom was very nice and the staff was more than kind. The Complementary breakfast was amazing. It was even better than the breakfast we've paid for Though I loved how close we were to Cannery Row and how easily accessible it was to everything, the cars driving by in the morning was a little loud. Also, the rooftop restaurant was a little loud at times when we were in our room because we were right underneath but not enough to make me not want to stay there again.
Very nice staff. Rooftop bar is cool, especially in the evening. Interesting themed rooms - European feel to the place. The room felt a bit cramped. Limited parking and dangerous access to the main road.
This place is a true gem! The food and drinks at the rooftop bar were great and complimentary breakfast is like no other!
We loved this place. It was different but really fun. The decor was so cute and quirky and the staff was great. Loved the breakfast in the morning and the complementary happy hour drink on the rooftop lounge which overlooks the ocean. It was easily within walking distance of the wharf and the beach which was right across the street. The bathroom in our room was amazing! Great shower and jet tub with heated floors. We will be back for sure. The room was a little small but we didn't mind. The bed was too soft for my boyfriend and we will make adjustments for that next time. The only parking is on the street but we always found something close and we were able to leave our car their and walk most places so it wasn't that big of an issue.
The location was nice. Everything was very clean. There was no clearly marked parking. The room was super noisy, especially as they entertained guests at the rooftop bar, and as they cleaned up the bar after the end of the night. And as they started to serve breakfast. The room was old and rather amateurish, with mismatched paint, dented walls, a partially-functioning TV, and a jacked-up door handle. Also, the bed was super uncomfortable. It was like sleeping in a bounce house. For the price, I expected a much nicer facility.
The rooftop is amazing. We appreciated the complimentary drink during happy hour. The complimentary breakfast was wonderful. Location is nice because it's right across the street from the beach. Parking is limited. We stayed for 4 days and our sheets never got changed so they got pretty sandy. The hotel is located on a major road and so the traffic made things pretty noisy, especially since there is no air conditioning unit and we had the windows open.
The room was small but very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was big enough. Had dinner on the rooftop. Great view of the ocean. Great complementary breakfast. It was delicious. Staff very nice and helpful. Would stay again for sure. Very close to Fishermen's Wharf. The only problem with the room was no window. There was a door to the outside but didn't feel good about leaving the door open all night. Got a little stuffy during the night. No AC. Very limited parking.
Free drink on rooftop bar during happy hour (5-7 p.m.) Free delicious plated breakfast including bacon, eggs, orange juice (much better than standard continental spread) Room was small, but very well-appointed and comfortable Would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone We felt like we got very good value for the money The only thing that was less than ideal was the on-street parking, but that worked out fine for us.
In house restaurant has excellent cook who prepares meals individually and the bartender is also top notch. Great view of the city and beach is nice. The breakfast was exquisite, the staff and facility had a euro feeling but parking is non-existent and the boulevard just outside the door offers no spots, forcing one to search for spots in a possibly sketchy neighborhood. Tiny rooms but nice.
The attention to detail in rooms and by staff if we had a request
The hotel is an extraordinarily charming and unique boutique hotel. While the rooms are not large, they are well appointed. The rooftop bar/restaurant offers expansive views of the Monterey Bay and is a must see. The gracious proprietor, Naz, makes you feel at home (her home).
Great location and easy walking to all things Monterey. Old boutique hotel with no provided parking.
The hotel had an excellent location only a short walk from Monterey Bay and the wharf. Although a bit shabby, the hotel has a charming feel. The staff was helpful and friendly. Both the room and bathroom were uncomfortably small. Other than the bed, there was only one small uncomfortable wooden chair to sit on. No microwave or refrigerator was provided. The worst problem was the noise, both day and night, which made it impossible to get a good night's sleep. Between the trash trucks, the squawking sea gulls, the late night party goers, and street construction peace was not to be had. And, because the room was not air conditioned, the windows could not be closed.
Location was a block away from the wharf with restaurants and shopping nearby everywhere. Hotel was beautiful with historic architecture and vintage furniture Walls were thin and you could hear your neighbors' movements
The staff were very courteous. The hotel decor and history. There was a farmers market on the street in front of the hotel. There was some minor damage on the bathroom counter. Just an eyesore, nothing major. The tv was old but it worked fine.
A bit noisy due to street area
Absolutely charming historic hotel located in the heart of downtown Monterey! 5 minute drive to the aquarium and a five minute walk to the beach and Fisherman's Wharf. Stayed two nights with our young family with 3 kids, and they loved every bit down to how they folded the napkins and toilet paper prior to our stay. Breakfast was overflowing with ripe strawberries and Boyd's coffee, and the staff dug up a corkscrew to keep and some wine glasses so we could enjoy our bottle from wine country. All in all, wish we could have stayed longer, and very pleased with its prime location and roaring 20's charm. Parking was slightly challenging but we were always able to find some spots on the street.
The customer service was amazing and the room I picked was smaller than I thought and they upgraded me for free and the new room was amazing and we had a great time there!!! It was close to lots of sites we visited and we had a great trip!!!! I didn't like the stairs and the elevators were far from the room due to the fact that we have to pack a lot because we have a baby but the bell hop helped us and they accommodated our every need!!!
The most polite, friendly, and helpful staff I have encountered at a hotel in awhile. The hotel itself was located in a perfect spot in town with lots of food places and stores close by. The fact the this hotel has such a historic history, being that it is 112 years old, made it all the more fascinating. Loved everything!
It appeared the valet used my car for personal use. Found papers in the front seat of my car not belonging to me when I picked up my car after my stay. Very concerning.
Beautiful Downtown, close to Fisherman's Wharf, and well-preserved and maintained building and rooms. Rooms are older and bathroom fixtures & layout could use updating, but the furnishings are antique, the bed was comfy, and the room was clean and neat throughout, and the place was quiet. It is located conveniently close to many differing restaurants, and of course the real touristy hotspots are only a few blocks away. Bring your walking shoes! So the closest parking they refer you to is 4-blocks away and there is no guarantee that you'll park closer even at check-in as they have no "dedicated" on-street parking/loading nearby. There are stairs everywhere, so even if you ride the elevator up, once you get to your floor it's the old-fashioned "wandering" hotel with weirdly set up hallways and you go out of one building into others, and there are stairs everywhere! Only 3-5 stairs but railings are only on one side if at all, and there's no forewarning of that fact.
clean & quite. great central location! less bulkier furniture in the room so a small table & chair can be accommodated. one can't sit on the bed at all times!!
Good location, in heart of downtown. Parking can be an issue. Hotel could use an update.
The service was great and accommodations were perfect for our needs. The fireplace was a nice touch :)
Nicely appointed rooms, ours had an electric fireplace. Beds were comfortable. Hotel had a nice pool area and an outdoor lounge area. We only stayed one night, would have liked to stay longer.
Staff was so nice. we told them we were in Monterey to celebrate the bf's bday and they were nice enough to upgrade our room and send over a bottle of champagne for free :). It really made our trip special. The staff at the spa were great too, pretty much left us to do as we wished The food at Ernesto's (restaurant located in hotel) was a bit overpriced. Food was still good
A compromise with the loudness but Im super sensitive. Nice staff, good location and very clean.
Central location, walking distance to downtown and nearby restaurants/shops. Easy parking. Under construction (not noted prior to making reservation). Bed and pillows were uncomfortable. Shower over tub did not drain appropriately.
I loved the look and feel of Casa Munras. Once we drove off the street, it felt like we were in a very private resort. The staff was very friendly and courteous, and we really liked using the Esteban Restaurant for some of our meals. We especially enjoyed the Happy Hour! The food was delicious, and the wait staff was very pleasant. We also took advantage of the spa while we were there, as they were running a very good massage/facial special. We probably had one of the best massages we have ever had and did not feel rushed or like one in a long line of customers that we have felt at other spas. The outdoor hot tub was a lovely, relaxing way to end our spa services. My daughter and I came to relax for a couple of days, and that is exactly what we were able to do here! We look forward to returning!
Good central location in area for what I come to do every year. Drop my daughter off at CSUMB and do some golfing. Walking distance to plenty of dining options besides restaurant on site. Small spa on site is nice. If you catch one of their many specials, the stay is a great value for the money. Beds & pillows are a little too soft for my liking and parking is a little tight if you drive an SUV or minivan.
Cute place with neat history. Staff is wonderfully helpful and friendly. Quality of facility and service is a great value. A bit of rennovation in progress, but staff was aware and considerate in room selection to minimize impact.
The staff was very friendly, room was very nice with it's own fire place, happy hour at the restaurant was also very nice, location was perfect- just a few minute walk to downtown Monterey Only had one restaurant
The hotel lobby set a very good first impression. However getting to the room it was outdated, walls were thin and just okay on cleanliness.
I liked the cleanliness and the feel like home of the place. I also enjoyed dining in the fine restaurant the hotel provides. The personnel was was polite and very accommodating. The proximity to to everything in the city was very much appreciated.
Clean and comfortable beds, bathroom clean, service great. and close to the boardwalk, we walked everything therefore, did not have to pay for any parking down town. very nice, will stay again next year and whenever we go there. very nice that we didnt stay longer!
The Room was clean and the heater worked well... It was a cold night for Monterery... 11/2010
from the outside, it looks like a motel. But the rooms are very good quality "Hotel style".
Private parking was really convenient The hot tub closes too early, Usually couples like to use it after dinner to relax and unwind
Hotel facilities are excellent and we had a pleasant reasonable-sized room. The location is also quite good - only a short drive to Fisherman's Wharf and the rest of the very attractive town of Monterey.
Clean, cheap and efficient None. Was v. Happy for the price
convenience to wharf, highway 1, room cleanliness location is on the corner of two busy streets....noisy area
Very friendly and helpful staff. Short walk to the downtown area. Right across from a beautiful pond. the attached restaurant was great. we stayed on the top floor and the outside hallway was just bare wood. looked terrible but could not tell if it was under construction as it didn't look like anyone was working on it.
Clean rooms and good lokacion nice staff
Meticulously clean. Nice and comfortable. Great value for money. Too far away from Cannery Row.
Value for money. Small, but warm pool. Not far from ocean (2-3 km). Close to highway, but quiet. Very poor breakfast.
super friendly staff lack of paper goods in the room when we arrived, little toilet paper on the roll and only one tissue left in the container
Easy to locate. Close to amenities. Helpful and friendly staff. Very clean room with plenty of amenities including coffee maker. Juice, fruit, coffee and danish for breakfast included in the price. Very pleasant stay.
The hotel was very clean, with nice ammenities in the room, e.g. granite countertops in the bathroom, etc. The location is great as it is a nice walk to Fisherman's Warf. All-in-all, a great value. I would highly recommend this hotel!
The room was renovated very nicely. Did not expect an older hotel like this to be so nice! The room was also clean and roomy. No bad point but would recommend a non-slip surface in the shower.
Breakfast and staff friendiliness
Clean rooms; free parking and the room was large enough. Swimming pool could have been heated in the cold Montery climate. Breakfast could have included a couple of more items.
Very quiet location and comfortable bed. There was hair in the shower drain, the carpets were dirty. I had to leave early (7:15am) for a long drive home. I booked this hotel becuz they also included continental breakfast, which would be good for grab and go. But no such thing. The area was locked up tight. The coffee that was in the room was enuf for ONE 8oz cup. That did not get me Very far, Also,Most TV channels, including the HBO,had "too weak a signal" to view. For the price I was mostly disappointed. I like to get what is promised.
Just a 10 min footwak to The warf, a lot of Restaurants near by, free parking and good wifi. IT was just a 1 Night Stay and for that this Motel is perfect!
Hotel is very loud, walls are paper thin and they do not care if kids are running the halls. We asked to be moved to a different room and were told that they were sold out. Front desk rep said he would refund our money and then said that he would not show us any proof of the refund. We left and I will fight this charge with my credit card company.
This place was quaint/clean/easy/quiet/not stuffy/not exclusive/inclusive and the front desk was very friendly. It was clean, affordable, in a relatively easy place to access the community, and had good parking so that even if they had overflow, they had a place for overflow. Being a seasoned traveler, I appreciate all they provided and I've paid far more for far less. The manager/owner? was very helpful.
Rooms were clean, spacious, and had the necessary amenities. Showers and bathrooms were nice as well. It was close walking distance to downtown and felt safe. The room smelt of strong bleach/chlorine. I attempted to find/call front desk staff multiple times, at night and in the morning and no one answered or was at the desk despite it being "24 hour staff". The breakfast hardly had anything and was late being put out so we had to delay our departure.
We stayed on the 2nd floor and had a view of the ocean which was a lovely surprise! I really liked our room. It was nice and updated. I loved the photos on the walls. There was a fridge and a microwave which was great to have on our trip. I would definitely stay here again. The only thing I didn't like was the complimentary breakfast area. We went in and it was very hot inside and there were flies buzzing all over.
The manager was very sweet, professional, and several times throughout our stay check that everything was ok. VERY clean room. Breakfast was ok... Just enough to hold you over til lunch. All of the staff was great. My only complaint is that the internet wasn't the best. I brought it up to the manager he he said it was the first he had heard that it wasn't working well and that he would have someone check into it.
It was a nice stay but the chaos with the breakfast was stressful and the parking lot was too small for a safe turning radius. I hit the curb with the underside of my car when I reversed out of the parking spot. Parking lot and the breakfast
Waffles, rooms were cleaned well each day. Friendly breakfast staff. Woke up to loud construction in adjacent room at 8:00am on Saturday morning. With a Saw-zaw and banging...not just a dull hum. Requested a 6:45 AM wake up but did not receive the call as they said. Luckily we woke up at 7:30 (after a late night out) and were only 45 minutes behind schedule getting to San Jose to catch flight home. Pillows are small and uncomfortable. The door knob to room was broken, had to pull up correctly to open it. Both days were rough wake up calls and I feel like we should have been offered a small discount. Front desk just told the guy to stop using the saw. Undecided if I will return or ever recommend anybody from returning in the future. based on value it was about $50 per night overpriced.
The room was clean but the elevator was dirty
Excellent room layout.
We loved the location, we took advantage of the hotel 2 day aquarium tickets. The location is really close to a lot of things (~8 minutes from aquarium ~5 min. to Dennis the Menace park -it was closed for construction while we were there but its very close) The rooms were cleaned well daily we have 3 children (5,3 and 7 mo.) so that was good. There isn't a LOT of parking but enough, we only couldn't park in front of our room once (there is an annex lot where the ocean view rooms are located across the street... not ideal but really not bad). All in all we stayed a few extra days because the price was right, the location was great and the rooms were clean. I would go back again. My wife and I have back problems and so beds are often a big deal for us. I know as someone with back pain it was not very good. I'm not sure if they were old beds or if the style is just not right for my wife and I's backs. (Her problem is different than mine but neither of us liked the beds). My wife said she saw some stains on some towels one of the days but that they were clean. I didn't notice it.
Walking to dinner and discovering a late afternoon farmers market/craft show. Ver close to marina and fishermans wharf. Fun
The rooms were a good size and the cleanliness was very good, location was pretty good, and the the breakfast was tasty and the breakfast room was kinda cramped. The walls were thin, even as hotels go and beds were really hard, and two of the four staff members that we interacted with were pretty rude
Friendly staff. Cleanliness
Great hotel, beautiful room, highly suggest the fireplace, great location, a few blocks from everything and a great price Sure the breakfast room was a little cramped, but no where near as bad as everyone makes it out to be, I went on a holiday and I was still able to easily get my food
Clean, good size rooms, friendly staff overall good, a bit dated room breakfast room was very small staff worked hard to keep full though coffee was luke warm Tv was small and pretty old
Fairly quiet. Proximity to anything you need was great.
The staff was very friendly. Upon arriving (before standard check-in time) we were told our room was being cleaned right then and we were able to utilize it right away, two hours early. The room was clean and the area quiet. Free parking and wi-fi. Excellent location overall, close to the aquarium, but not really walking distance with young children. It wasn't quite as "walking distance" as we would have liked. That's more our lack of knowledge of the area. The bed was quite firm and slightly uncomfortable.
Cookies at 5pm Bad pillows. Parking fee when plenty of parking around the hotel. Hotel is not within walking distance to any Monterey sites. Loud rooms near highway on ramp. Wouldn't stay here again.
All modern amenities Rooms are a little small, but adequate
Room was in a nice location. Checking in was easy and staff was helpful. I happy overall with my stay. Beds were not comfortable nor the pillows. I thought there may be more discounts in regards to Monterey Bay aquarium in the Warf, but I was told Marriott does this not Hilton.
the rooms were very comfortable but a lot smaller than the pic leads you to believe. The bar is open until 9 pm. the room service is for dinner only
I really like the pool and the location of the Hilton Garden Inn Monterey, it’s was very easy to locate. The staff was very good, I actually asked for a late checkout time and a few other things and they were very willing to accommodate me. The room was clean and had almost everything I needed.. What I dislike: This really is not about dislike it’s more about the comparison of value based on price. Hilton Garden Inn Monterey (“HGIM”), is expensive and maybe too expensive for what you really get. I travel a lot for work and with my family. And basically I would compare the HGIM with high-end Hotels in the Napa Valley and Santa Barbara. One: I would say if you pay upwards over 250 a night, a water bottle (just one) in your room would be really nice, the breakfast buffet was really good but again if you’re paying $$$ it would be nice if it was included and it would probably create more buzz for the property. The bar was fine but seriously it’s just a bar. The other thing is and this is not exclusive to the HGIM, a lot of hotels have this issue the doors for each room when they close are so loud that if you’re trying to take a nap or just concentrate on work it’s very difficult. I found myself hanging out in the lobby to do work. The room itself was not bad two queen beds they were very comfortable, the mini-fridge was loud, the TV was fine, the bathroom, was poorly designed the door scarcely had a enough room to open without hitting the toilet the detail work in the bathroom was not done well and the wardrobe it’s a wardrobe. I know I’m being critical in this statement but it’s because I hold the Hilton brand at a high value, because it asks for a high value for the dollars you pay.
Location We prepaid for the room online and upon our 8pm arrival we were informed that we were "lucky" that our room was still available (what!?). Once in our room, we found that the toilet was broken; water ran all night, even after maintenance "fixed" the issue at 11pm. The shower was broken. So no baths for us! We informed the desk and they offered to let us shower in another room the next morning - hardly a reasonable accommodation. There was a loud reunion going on at the bar and another on the second floor - both lasted well into the early morning (2am!). The late night desk clerk was rude and completely unapologetic. It was by far the worst Hilton experience ever.
I frequently travel to this location on business, and I love the staff at this hotel. There is a culture of great treatment as I get it from every employee I have met at the front desk.
The lady at the front desk when I checked in was very pleasant. Too much money for the room, which was not all that. I've stayed at other hotels where i don't pay that much money and i get a free breakfast, nicer room. DOn't think i will stay there again when visiting Monterey.
The bar and restaurant has great staff. Little pricy. Nice room. Pool was down for maintenence, didn't see that on the Web site. So our pool view was not that nice.
Staff were the friendliest you'll find anywhere!
It was very clean and comfort. If they have any discounts for visitors for college students.
Clean and well maintained Breakfast food choices could be improved
The Travelodge was charging $89.99 per night for the room I stayed in. You charged me $110 which I thought was the best price available.
It was close to an event in which Mary wanted to participate. Everything worked. It was your quintessential no frills businesslike chain motel. It was cramped and poorly accessible.
Situation It was definitely too noisy. Too close to a heavy traffic road.
It was noisy
close proximity to everything noisy! night traffic was terrible. they added a safe warranty cost and tourism cost to the price. We did not use the safe.
management friendly and helpful. Had problem with new key system. Door would not stay shut and locked from outside, only when inside. Reported to management, but was not fixed in the two day we were there.
The breakfast was welcoming and substantial. Also the staff at desk in the morning was cheerful and helpful. Room had everything and was clean. Bed was very comfortable. Definately a good value for money hotel to use as a base to explore Monterey and surrounding area. Was on busy road but we were aware of this.
The housekeepers added extras that I appreciated. Excellent location They charged more than their quoted price - $119 vs $99
It was clean and very quiet - no traffic, trains, etc. The free wireless was nice plus. Room included a kitchenette but no utensils/plates/glasses. No ice bucket or bag to get free ice by office, also no hair dryer. Office closed by 10 pm and didn't open again until 9 am (after we were gone for the day).
Actually, nothing it appeared to be build in the sixty. felt like a motel 8. would not stay there again. price was too high for this place. $39.99 would be more like it. would not recommend to anyone. it has a smell about it. The bed was comfortable and fireplace.
Staff was pleasant. It is in need of a makeover. Very worn furniture. Dirty, stained carpet. It is the first hotel that I have stayed in which there were sewn patches on the pillowcases. Toilet seat needs to be replaced.
I booked it because I thought the fireplace would make for a cozy room. It did not meet my expectations.
Location was close to event, wifi was adequate, friendly staff Smelly room, old towels, cheap bedding, dated fixtures, no in-room coffee, no lobby coffee, limited lobby hours, no continental breakfast, no premium tv channels, high cost/ rate for lower quality hotel and lack of amenities. Will not stay here again and will not recommend to anyone.
