Easy to get to transportation, much is within walking distance. Comfortable room.
Parking is an issue, but is available close by. Not an issue if using the great public transportation system.Charming hotel that had all the things I needed. Was able to get around the area and go shopping, ride the trolly, take a painted ladies tour, find great restaurants, etc. I had a great weekend and was also able to get some work done.
the room was dirty the bathroom was covered with mold told the front desk they went to clean it and made a bigger mess it was one of my worst stays in a hotel

The location was excellent and a super good value.
We didn't have towels in the room. We never called to ask about it as we were there just 1 night because we were going to a party in the city and just needed a place to crash. For what you pay this is a great deal. It was--- for 2 double beds. We live in the Bay Area but were going to a late night event in SF so decided to just get a room to spend the night. We used the room to get ready beforehand and I felt it was a good size for the cost and had a huge closet. There were no towels which is odd. We never called down about it as we weren't using the shower. The hotel is definitely old - stained carpet, peeling paints but clean. The beds were hard which didn't bother me at all and I slept very well. For the price It hink it is a great deal if you are just looking for a room to sleep in and rest in between activities. There is only one key per room which is a bit problematic if you are staying with ...
The room was absolutely filthy and smelled. I left with bug bites all over me and was definitely concerned they were from bed bugs. We looked under the bed before we left to make sure nothing was left behind and there was a thick, visible layer of grime.Street noise is loud and goes on all night. The room was grimy and had a horrible odor. The elevator feels unsafe. There is no wifi in the rooms, only in the second floor common area. The front desk staff are indifferent with the exception of one gentleman who was very helpful in telling us where to park. I understand that this is a 1 star hotel and you get what you pay for, but I still would not recommend it to anyone. I left with bug bites all over my face and hands. The dermatologist suggested it was bed bugs, but there is no way to verify that.

Centrally located, polite staff, nice room, comfy bed, nice bathroom.
Front lobby was a little tight. Interior room looked int a really sketchy looking building and the gross roof of whatever was next door.
Phil was superb as the doorman/bellman at the hotel! Awesome service fresh, orange-infused water waiting for you in the lobby! Small, quaint and right in the center of it all! We would definitely stay there again!

You can't beat the location for the price.
Pictures are misleading. Was expecting a more modern-ish artsy hotel. No lobby. Think a railroad type, thin and long style building. No key to front door, buzz in (hope front desk there to buzz) Super small rooms. Art is graffiti art.. skulls..etc.So we didn't know the is a THEMED ROOM hotel. All the rooms are painted/decorated differently by different artists and the hallways have different rotating ART shows every 3 months. As with all 'ART,' taste levels are subject to personal preferences. Walking down a hallway of broken skateboards hung on the walls, painted with skulls and dead people... graffiti art.... not the most pleasant or welcoming experience. Our room the first night was literally called 'THE UNABOMBER.' room. It was decorated to match the una-bombers cabin. The wall was wallpapered with an outdoor cabin scene. The furniture was an old plank wooden desk and rickety bookshe...
The room was very clean and fun. The area was great, walking distance to everything I wanted. The staff was very nice and helpful. I'm really glad I stayed there. For the price, no other place could have been as good.
Only small thing. It advertised breakfast. That was toast, juice, and coffee, everyday. I think there could have been a small improvement in that area. I ended up eating toast only one morning. I ended up going other places for breakfast.Overall, it was great and I would definitely stay there again.

The location and staff was friendly
The smell in the hotel was horrible. It smell like the sewer
It has a good location.
DOUBLE ROOM DOES NOT MEAN TWO BEDS! We checked in and ended up with a very small room with ONE double bed. We had to pay $25 to upgrade to a room with two double beds.

You could tell how well they attempted to clean the place. The building is obviously old, as is the rest of San Francisco, but you could tell they fixed it up. The paint, amenities, beds, towels, and carpet were all fairly clean and organized.
The front desk clerk was quite hostile and easily agitated as it seemed he was having a rough night. Also, there were homeless around but really it's San Francisco. If you can't handle that, go to some other city. The place is pretty decent. Especially for----. We didn't see bugs or anything gross. The beds were clean and made, although not soft at all. There were some homeless but if you can't handle that get out of the city. I will be staying at the hotel again at the price.
The comedic value of listening to drunks yell at eachother outside in the street. The sink (no bathroom) was a nice touch. The place was actually clean enough.
When you arrive to check in, you're asked to sign an agreement that says you will not engage in violent behavior. Seems like that would be a given in any lodging arrangement outside of a prison or halfway house. That set the tone for our one night stay.I would recommend this hotel ONLY for confident, young single traveler who has experience in adventure tourism. Although, you could save money and stay in a hostel instead. Don't bring your family here. If you're out hitting the North Beach clubs, and you just want a place to sleep after last call -- maybe this will work. But bring ear plugs.
