Pros: The rooms with balconies overlooking the fjord are great. Right across the street from the water. The owners are wonderful people. They are so helpful and accommodating. They helped with tour plans and tickets as well as ferry information. The breakfast was very tasty and complete. Ballestrand is a quiet, relaxing place to stay and this hotel is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the fjords The common areas are wonderful for reading, conversation, napping, or watching TV. So comfortable.
Pros: The view was amazing, and the service was wonderful. This was an excellent place to stay in lovely Balestrand - highly recommended!
Pros: From the arrival at Balestrand Jetty to departure the staff were fantastic. It felt more like a cosy b&b with all the facilities of a hotel. The owner his wife & daughter could not have been more helpful & friendly. Absolutely loved my 2 nights here
Cons: Leaving.. my stay was perfect!
Pros: Excellent location and very clean. Staff were extremely knowledgeable about the area and activities on offer. They went out of their way to share and plan routes for travel.
Pros: Well run and relaxing hotel Great location
Pros: Loved this place! Wonderful folks who picked up our bags from the ferry landing and gave us great hiking tips. Go for a room with a fjord view--absolutely worth it!
Cons: Breakfast wasn't as elaborate as some of the other places we stayed in Norway, but it was fine.
Pros: Upon arrival we were picked up at the dock and brought to a beautiful hotel on the hillside overlooking the fjord. The owners and staff were amazing! The hotel is easy walking distance to town, activities and wonderful restaurants.
Pros: The hosts were so friendly and helpful! Plus, location was so convenient and breathtakingly beautiful. Common room was perfect for winding down at night
Pros: Clean and tidy hotel
Pros: Small, family run hotel with nice staff and beautiful location
Pros: The hotel had a quiet elegance that was a surprise at the price and the staff helped me navigate travel options that made the rest of my trip go smoothly.
Located in Balestrand, Dragsvik Fjordhotel is by the sea, a 1-minute drive from Sogne Fjord and 9 minutes from Raudmelen. Featured amenities include laundry facilities and coffee/tea in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: When we arrived it turned out that they didn't have a double room for me and my wife. So they upgraded us to a cabin, 100 m. away from the hotel, 50m from the water. The cabin had its own kitchen. This was already sorted out before we arrived. The breakfast was a proper buffet style one. The breakfast room was nice with a beautiful view and good chairs. Staff was very friendly.
Cons: No bad experiences here...
Pros: The view is stunning. The room is very clean and spacious. The hotel is next to the fjord and it’s very quiet. The hotel staffs are professional and friendly.
Cons: We love everything about this hotel and would love to come back soon.
Pros: Location is beautiful. Plan to spend 1/2-1 day around at least.
Cons: Getting there is not simple. You need to take a ferry ... and they need not very frequent. It became an inconvenience for me, because I took the Gudvangen - kaupanger ferry, and then drove to this place.. wasn’t worth the trouble for me.
Pros: It has a very good view for the fjord for the room and breakfast area. Relaxing area for coffee. A lots of choice in the breakfast.
Cons: There is no shop around the property to buy food. Good food served in the dinner menu but a bit expense.
Pros: Even so it was the most expensive pitstop ;y far on our road trip, we got the best room (we believe). Huge, separate living room with kitchen and even terrace plus panorama windows in all rooms. Staff was friendly, common area comfortable and generous. The greenhouse with view is as amazing and gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy the view.
Cons: Breakfast and dinner is served rather late for our taste (family with toddler) - 7:30 and 19:00 respectively. We weren't the only ones to start at 7:30 breakfast, however, it took 45min until ham and eggs appeared. Coffee was weak and bread rather dry too. Generally the hotel is top notch, but some small details were off ruining the perfect stay
Pros: Location gives it amazing views of fjords, bays and mountains. Friendly helpful staff. Nice walks close by, both around the shoreline and up the mountain and into the forest
Cons: The hotel is 7km from Balestrand ferry terminal. This means it is quieter, but there are only about 4-5 buses a day to Dragsvik - Balestrand. This meant we had to book their shuttle service.
Pros: Lovely family run hotel in a beautiful situation. Only thing missing was an elevator
Pros: The location of the hotel is perfect and the view from our room was amazing. There are tables outside, as well as hammock. Everything was clean and I highly recommend it!
Cons: Everything was perfect
Pros: Staff went out of their way to accommodate our needs. Breakfast was excellent. Views jaw-dropping.
Cons: Just FYI: no elevator- staff will help with bags, but request ground level accommodation of stairs an issue for tou.
Pros: Superb room with a balcony
Located in Sogndal, Fjærland Fjordstove Hotell is on the waterfront, a 3-minute drive from Norwegian Glacier Museum and 8 minutes from Jostedalsbreen National Park. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and a library. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Great atmosphere and staff that went out of its way to help us. The location is incredible. The owner gave a short presentation about the area’s history and about the hotel and the way he views it - which contributed a lot to our stay.
Cons: No elevator, steep stairs.
Pros: The setting was lovely.
Cons: The regular bicycles available for hotel guests were not in good condition.
Pros: This hotel is right on the fjord and the views are just beautiful! The place is so pretty and is filled with antiques.
Cons: Our room was so nice . It was a corner room with views to the glacier and the fjord. My sister’s room was a single and she did not have the lovely views
Pros: Perfect hotel in beautiful location at the fjord. Staff was excellent, rooms were good. Good breakfast and dinner. Very cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Rooms were nicely decorated - in particular the common areas downstairs.
Cons: Shower could use a small upgrade.
Pros: Old world charm
Pros: Beautiful location. The host was fantastic from his history tour before dinner to his hike recommendations in town. I HIGHLY recommend making this part of your trip to Norway. Can’t say enough. Sign up for the dinner and be sure to explore the town.
Cons: Checkout - they guys working the evening were a bit new at the process but it went smoothly enough. Not something that would take away from the experience.
Pros: Lovely position on the fjord ,unfortunately due to ferry delays we didn’t get there in time for dinner
Cons: It is a bit overpriced
Pros: The location was amazing and loved the general eclectic vibe of the decor!
Cons: We were in a room with a really stinky bathroom!
Pros: Staff and service were superb, kind and accommodating. Fantastic views and cosy public areas. Great dinner, yet quite expensive. Breakfast was OK. Rooms opposite ours looked much nicer and had renovated bathrooms.
Cons: Screeching bathroom door. Tiny rooms. Less than minimal bathroom. Our rooms were 103 and 104 facing the road and a single 108 facing the water.
Pros: Everything about this place was spectacular. Book dinner with your stay, it was the best dinner we ate in Norway, gourmet and delicious and we are picky.
Located in Balestrand, Kringsjå Hotell is by the ocean, within a 5-minute walk of Raudmelen and English Church of St. Olav. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Great hotel! We enjoyed the game room very much and the breakfast was delicious. Very friendly staff too.
Pros: Great view from my room. Clean and very pleasant room. Loved having a kitchen/laundry. 3 mins walk to the ferry. A kettle and tea in the room. A balcony.
Cons: All good but..if you are catching the early boat best check out the night before. I forgot and reception opens quite late.
Pros: The hotel is located in heart of Balasttrand. It is very close to the ferry for those who come from S.ognefjord. The staff was very helpfull and smiling. The room is big enough for 2 adult and 2 years old baby to stay. The view of the room is AMAZING.
Cons: The bathroom definitely needs some alterations. It is not quite suit with the hotel. The breakfast could have been better. There is not an elevator in the hotel.
Pros: Beautiful view from our room and balcony over the fjord. Hospitable and friendly staff
Pros: Great location, fantastic view over the water, comfortable room, very friendly staff and a delicious breakfast, I would definitely stay here again.
Pros: Love it. The owner was exceptionally helpful. And, directed me to a wonderful location.
Pros: The terrace with fjord view. The bed and the floor in the room are new.
Cons: Bathroom is very small. Showering will make the whole bathroom floor wet.
Pros: The neighbourhood was serene and relaxed. The hotel was very casual and family owned and run.
Cons: There could have been a fan in the rooms. We stayed during summer and it was pretty warm till the sun set.
Pros: Clean rooms, although bathroom was still wet, not sure whether was from cleaning or previous guest
Cons: I probably got the worst room in the hotel--had no view, rooms are very small, and beds are more like army bunks--with nice linen. Even tho wifi advertised, couldn't use it, password didn't work. Hotel did have common areas with working Internet, TV, etc, but would be nice to have that in a room. Rooms had no tv, and only 2 pieces of soap. The sink in the bathroom was very low, as designed for a child. And to my knowledge hotel had no elevator, so if u get a room on 4 th floor, good luck dragging heavy bags up there. Lucky I was traveling alone, and stayed there only 1 night. There're better hotels in town, so spend a bit more , and be comfortable
Pros: This quaint hotel has amazing views, a great breakfast and helpful, friendly staff. Wish we had stayed two bightz
Cons: Common areas are a bit dated but the room decor is excellent,

Pros: Exellent location, dinner was outstanding!
Cons: Expensive dinner.
Pros: Historic building and rooms, great location, excellent staff, good food, comfortable room with lots of space and an excellent view of the fjord and mountains.
Pros: Good location, just located at the port. With good meow of the fjord.
Cons: The WiFi services is bad. The breakfast is bad. Our shower room has the leaking problem.
Pros: Great location, excellent service, comfortable beds, breakfast included, beautiful fjord scenery
Pros: Excellent location in Balestrand...right on the water. Great staff. Fantastic, but pricey, buffet dinner. The view from rooms in the tower facing the water cant be beat, if in the higher floors (6-8)
Cons: Tower rooms need a refresh. Tour groups can have exclusive access to the impressive historic public spaces, shutting out the independent traveler.
Pros: View to the fjord , clean room, comfortable , staffs were friendly , big rooms , location was perfect , nice private balcony...
Cons: Lack of electric kettle in rooms... breakfast could be better...
Pros: Classic charm in a spectacular location. Nice staff who are eager to please. Terrific hiking just out the door with awesome views for your effort.
Cons: The majority of guests are housed in a modern annex behind the historic hotel. We were among them. After getting over the disappointment of not rooming in the historic section, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Pros: Location, age, history and charm. Filled with antiques and art from early 19th century
Cons: No coffee in the room or freely available when wanted. Have to purchase the breakfast buffet and wait to be served a coffee. No ice-makers/ice buckets. Only two 6oz tiny juice glasses and a bathroom sink. They previously had mini-fridges, but you can see where they were removed. It’s clear the goal is to drive you to the bar. To meet your biological needs your forced to drink water from the bathroom sink. It’s not worth the extra profit to do this to your guests.
Pros: Location and food
Cons: The level of the room is quite poor and the view of the fjord from the room was much beyond expectations
Pros: The awesome situation - the superb food (breakfast and dinner) - pleasant, helpful staff - the upkeep of grounds and buildings - the stunning communal rooms - the balcony overlooking the fjord.
Cons: 1. The Room (in new part) was not in keeping with rest of hotel. Clean, but basic, no safe, minibar or toiletries. 2. Bar Service and/or tea service are not served in the lovely sitting rooms or terrace. You have to go to bar.
Pros: Views and everything about the hotel are fantastic! Loved the breakfasts and the Balheim Bar for dinner.
Pros: The views were incredible from every part of the hotel. It was convenient to everything in the small town. The breakfast was very good. Lots of good food to choose from.
Cons: I have no real complaints. Dinner at the hotel was extremely expensive. Not really worth the cost.
Overlooking the Sogne Fjord, Midtnes Hotel is in Balestrand. It offers free Wi-Fi and parking and a private pier for boats and swimming. Dragsvik Ferry Terminal is 10 minutes’ drive away. Midtnes’s modern guest rooms feature a telephone and a private bathroom. Most have a fjord-view balcony. The in-house restaurant serves Norwegian as well as international cuisine. In summer, guests can enjoy their meals on the fjord-view terrace. The fireplace lounge is an ideal place to relax and chat with other guests. Leisure options include billards and darts. Boats are available for rent on site. The English Church and the Glacier Museum are just a few minutes’ walk from Hotel Midtnes.
Pros: Lovely view from balcony. Great breakfast buffet. Very helpful and informative manager Jon. He helped us to decide on perfect trips to fjord and glacier. Right next to St Olaf stav church. comfortable stay.
Cons: 10 minutes walk from ferry. But we actually didn’t mind as Balestrand is a lovely place and we had bright sunshine whole time.
Pros: Staff was friendly + free parking.
Cons: Rooms were really outdated (room was located in building after the main building). Breakfast was good but simple.
Pros: The hotel was very clean and the owner was very helpful. The views and facilities for relaxing were amazing.
Pros: Location was key—just steps away from amazing hiking trails, the most charming little church, and good restaurants. The host/owner was friendly and informative, and breakfast was great with lots of options. Our double room was spacious, with a large balcony (we were there during the start of a heat wave, so having the balcony door open was great for ventilation as I don’t think most Norwegian hotels have AC). Has an elevator which is helpful for those with heavy bags to lug up/down flights of stairs.
Cons: The seagulls can be rather loud in Balestrand if you have the windows open at night, which we needed in order to get some air into the room. They also only provided heavy blankets, which weren’t appropriate for the summer heat.
Pros: The location is wonderful, beautiful bar to have a beer and enjoy the northern light on the fjord.
Pros: Great location and view from room with balcony.
Pros: The view from the room was amazing, we could look out onto the fjord from our huge window and balcony. The room is simple but clean and comfortable. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and convenient. He made sure we knew when and where we had to be for our fjord tour the next morning and offered to drive our luggage down to the harbour to us when we left.
Pros: A nice bed and breakfast type of feel with a hotel.
Pros: Loved the location. Close to everything but away from the crowds!
Cons: A little aged...the rooms and bathrooms could use some updating
Located in Sogndal, Hotel Mundal is by the sea, a 4-minute drive from Norwegian Glacier Museum and 8 minutes from Jostedalsbreen National Park. Featured amenities include luggage storage and a library. Free self parking is available onsite.
Overlooking the Sognefjord, by Vangsnes Ferry Terminal, this hotel offers a grocery store and a restaurant and pub with fjord-view terrace. Vik Ski Centre is less than 30 minutes’ drive away. The traditionally decorated guest rooms at Sognefjord Guesthotel feature a tiled bathroom with shower. Guesthotel Sognefjord’s in-house restaurant serves classic Norwegian dishes based on locally sourced products. Fishing equipment and boats are available for rent on site, and hiking maps can be borrowed at reception. A public swimming pool is just 50 metres away. The 12th-century Hopperstad Stave Church is less than a 15-minute drive from Guesthotel Sognefjord. Ferries for Dragsvik and Balestrand regularly depart from the ferry terminal.
Pros: Convenient location by ferry, as a one night accommodation suitable. Room and bathroom cleanly tidy.
Cons: The staff is a little harder to arrange because they only partially speak English. The room equipment is a bit outdated and worn out. The bed is very soft. In the room description is a photo with a view of the fjord but I got a room with a view of the entrance and part of the house.
Pros: The location, directly in front of the ferry station. The boutique, old style charm
Cons: The lamb steak was overly done
Pros: What a quaint property. The hosts were really sweet and helpful. We did communicate. Their English was not perfect but it was better than my Norwegian. I have stayed in many hotels in Norway recently and I had the best nights sleep here. Beautiful views as right by a fjord.
Cons: I did not dislike any thing but the decor was a little tired.
Pros: This hotel is shitt I never recommend any one to use bad manager old man he is everything he is helpless
Cons: Every thing bad bad smell bad people bad breakfast very expensive 150 nok for cheese &jam
Pros: Good location for views and ferry
Cons: The first room offered was very small for a three day stay but we was upgraded. Although we had no room service for the whole of our stay. We only had one meal which was breakfast on the first morning it consists of one egg and a quarter of a rasher of bacon for 100 nok each it was very expensive . The place and the owner smelt of smoke and a lot of the time a TV under our room was on most of the day and evening. There was no TV in our room or fridge not that we wanted a TV but a fridge would have been useful. On arrival there was no one at the property and the two telephone numbers on the door were not in use we had to search for the numbers in the shop window on another level. We purchased nothing else would never stay there again.
Pros: Wide variation of the typical Norwegian breakfast
Cons: Breakfast in local restaurant, but now transfered to same building
Pros: view from room
Cons: noisy outside
Pros: The location for just an overnight stop.
Cons: Too old. Needs renovation.
Pros: We were travelling and used Vangsnes as a one night stop-over. It was directly across from the ferry we would take in the morning. The service was great. It felt as if I were home and my mother was taking care of me.
Pros: Well situated for the view and the ferries,
Cons: Difficult for travelling by public transport. Information was lacking, nobody seemed to know the timetables, and some buses didn't turn up at all.
