The hotel said that the first three floors had no water service and all floors above were booked. However, we went to the fitness center on the main floor and the showers were working fine. The kitchen on the main floor also had a water supply. We found out later that the water line was a lie. The hotel used that as an excuse to send us to another hotel because they had overbooked. The hotel they sent us to had a cheaper rate than Barcelo. The hotel that Barcelo sent us to said that Barcelo over books all the time, lies to their patrons all the time, and sends them to the hotel we were sent to and forces the other hotel to deal with or try to make up for Barcelo's mistakes and poor customer service. Also, one of the reasons we booked this hotel was because of the free airport shuttle service. The shuttle never showed up at the airport. We were told there would be a shuttle at 6:30, at 6:45, we called the hotel and it turns out they never sent a shuttle. We ended up having to get a cab and we were not reimbursed for the taxi ride. For the ride back to the airport, I just booked a taxi because I did not trust the Barcelo shuttle to pick me up in time from the hotel they sent me to. Did not like anything about this hotel.
Nice facility great service and amazing staff! Leaving
Prices for the food... It was over priced.
The staff was wonderful and made me feel right at home. Check in and check out was very quick and efficient!! I also really enjoyed my dinner at the pool bar restaurant!! My room was very clean and comfortable as well and the hot water was AMAZING for my bath!! There was nothing I didn't like!!
Staff are highly friendly and bilingual. Some of them at least. It's right off the freeway and a good price for what you get. Gym was hardly there at all. Fitness is important to me.I can improvise thanks to my training but I might as well have done bodyweight workouts. They didn't have someone at the front gate to let me in so I stood there for a while before crawling under the gate to open it myself.
It was a good hotel for our stay in Costa Rica, but because of the location you can't walk to anything, you need a cab to go anywhere. The food at the restaurant, especially dinner, was expensive and not that impressive.
Breakfast buffet was superior and the lobby, garden and the pool were beautiful. The staff were very helpful and kind. You have to take a taxi everywhere, and the cabs that are available at the hotel charge a premium to get you to your next location. It was $12 for a cab ride to Centro downtown and $6 for the cab ride back.
Nice with free shuttle to airport, comfortable beds and spacious rooms. There were some ants in the bathroom and overall could use more in depth cleaning.
Clean room, and spacious The gym was pretty messy, and too much equipment for the size of room it was in.
Close to where I work Old carpets that smell really bad. Swimming pool not accessible after 5pm or before 9am (Could bot use them since I am on a business trip) Old elevators with weird and scary sounds
the grounds were beautiful the location
The buffet breakfast was great, variety and quantity. Enjoy that! The bed was very comfortable, did a lot of sleeping. The shuttle to the airport was free but it goes on the hour and you need to schedule your spots ahead of time. Not a good place to walk anywhere. We wanted food but the restaurant at the hotel opened at 6:30pm. Better expect to catch a taxi or dodge traffic across the highway to go out. Also the restaurant was expensive for the portions, if you want your value, get the dessert bar for 6$. They will charge you for that bottled water they pour you. Wifi was cutting out a lot. They hotel had seen better days, lacking on the details of maintenance. I was happy for a minibar but was told it was 10$ just to unlock it so don't expect to have a fridge in the room. There was an ice bucket though.
The staff was very kind and accommodating and the rooms were very clean!
Clean, quiet, comfortable room. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Love the property itself and how big it is. Features an indoor and outdoor pool, indoor being part of Golds Gym attached in the rear. Big highlight was the breakfast that was included, the selection of Costa Rican food was absolutely delicious and they had a very wide variety and selection. The room was big, comfortable, and clean, and housekeeping did a wonderful job after the first night when we left the room in disrepair. Staff was helpful and friendly and offered suggestions on things to do while in San Jose. Free parking and WiFi were a bonus The AC did not work so well in our room and kind of made a buzzing sound most of the night. The shower was busted in that the handle that turns faucet to shower didn't work properly and when you ran the shower it was still coming out of the faucet, thus interfering with the shower pressure. I did mention this to management the following morning, but they were unable to resolve the situation. The sink also was full blast when turned on which meant the water was getting all over the floor. These are minimal issues and I'm sure not every room is like this.
Good location TV was not working all night.
The staff is very attentive and are definetly well trained Not what you would expect. Old, dated, not well kept. Stains in the shower, bedroom carpets. Gardens are not kept properly
The value was extraordinary, loved the hotel, included breakfast and prices at the bar provided value unmatched anywhere I have ever stayed. I did not even get a chance to visit the onsite casino. Staff was friendly, helpful and spoke English very well. Rooms very very well kept, This hotel in San Jose central...it is well located and 30 min from airport. I will never stay anywhere else.
My family were located on 4th floor which had special priviledges such as happy hour drinks and free snacks while my granddaughter & I were on 2nd floor as we booked later than the rest. The manager, without hesitation, arranged for us to have a special pass key so we could enjoy the same privileges. What a great service! Beds were very comfy and the staff were great. Location further from the airport than anticipated
The bed was broken.
The staff were helpful and the rooms were clean. Breakfast was included in my stay and was quite nice. Good overall! Google maps directed me to the back side of the hotel and the area behind the hotel is a bit sketchy at night. The hotel has a guard and a fence so it is safe
The staff are always friendly and call you by name. Facilities always clean and organized. Very good and tasty free breakfast. I am always happy with their beds and the rooms are very spacious. Bathrooms are always clean and stocked.
I was very pleased with our stay at the Radisson. Great location within walking distance to downtown Central Market, National Theater, etc. rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast was great. Staff was helpful and accomadating with any questions / requests. Would definitely stay here again. On site bar /restaurant was a bit pricey.
good for a quick business trip staff was courteous dirty carpet in room. some maintenance was needed. breakfast was average.
Nicest place I ever stayed in. Brand new luxury.
The rooms, cleanliness, modern, convenience, breakfast etc. Nothing, good experience
Loved my rolm because it was very spacious, bed was comfortable, everything was clean except for the trash in the trashcan when I arrived in the room. TV was great with different languages including Mandarin.. Beautiful vien from my room overlooking the city. Staff was excellent, especially at the front desk. They are bilingual and very informative. Overall, I liked the hotel but I did not like the pool area. There were always meetings being held in that area constantly so I didnt have a chance to swim. The pool was small regardless. I did not like the restaurant or the service very well. I would sit down and 20 minutes would pass by without a waiter approaching me and I would sit where they could clearly see me. I then have to flag them down to put my order in. The food was okay and pricey. You could do better at McDonald's in taste and price. The free breakfast there was very nice. Good assortment of fruit, cereal, yogurt, meat, bread, egss, juice, and milk. Location around the area is not the safest. As a foreigner, I do not recommend others to walk alone. Use a taxi.
Nice hotel with a boutique feel. Hot complimentary breakfast, clean, spacious, and updated rooms. Get 100 channels on television, some of which are HBO and English speaking stations and local South Florida news. Beautiful view of the mountains and city of San Jose. Great location. Only a few blocks from city center. Staff friendly and English speaking. Very helpful with reserving airport transfers at a affordable price. Friendly staff. Would recommend. No complaints.
Excellent service, spacious room, excellent food with local ingredients.
From the moment we walked in the staff were friendly, helpful, and throughout our stay they were always ready to assist, whether providing an extra towel or arranging transportation. Things you might expect, but with a far better attitude than you tend to find in the USA. The entire hotel was very clean at all times, which is important to me. Toilets allow you to flush paper, unlike many local establishments. Food was consistently fresh and tasted excellent. No genuine complaints. Trying to think what I'd have preferred to be different, the hallways and bathroom were less brightly lit than I'd like, but not bad. The hotel is very much a European style and not intended to look local in any way. My teens were the youngest people I saw there, and it's not set up for young kids. Location is great if you plan to spend time in San Jose but not terribly convenient to tourist attractions...which is true of any hotel in San Jose.
Excellent, super helpful staff comfortable beds great location room service food was awful (completely raw burger, as if if was just shaped and put onto the bun, not cooked at all, when asked for medium) Fish fingers super dry, no flavor breakfast buffet pancakes put me in the bathroom for a while
great staff, good breakfast room was not as clean as usual (we stay here often)
Great place to stay! The continental breakfast was good, loved the fact they had a 24 hour gym and nice pool. Quick taxi service. Not much scenery.
Restaurant was under staffed, slow and inattentive. Several guests left their tables without receiving a check after waiting for long periods of time. Food was average.
The hotel is new, immaculate in all respects with no detail overlooked. The staff are all cordial and professional. I especially would like to recognize Daniela, Alexia and Luis at the front, Phillipe in the dining room and especially Marvin who drove us on the two occasions we stayed there, the first for 3 nights, the second being the last prior to catching an early morning flight. Thanks also to those who are so often overlooked in cleaning the rooms who made us feel like we were the first to use them. not being able to stay longer.
we liked the location, close to shops and restaurants, overall a good experience. Very clean and comfortable.
We stay here about once every three months and it's always great. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Great location. Clean. Breakfast used to be so good, but it seems that they've cut the breakfast budget and it's really lacking now. Even the cheaper yogurt brand they've switched to tastes awful.
I have enjoyed staying there for the last 3 years and will continue staying there I enjoy the Casino and the staff there I don't have anything to say that I didn't enjoy
The hotel staff was excellent with communication and accommodating my needs. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and well stocked with necessary items. The hotel is a bit secluded and not within walking distance of anywhere, really.
We've stayed here before and things were better then. This time we reserved a crib ahead of time, and when we arrived we were told that the crib is on its way. 30 minutes passed and still no crib and no word from anyone. I called reception again and they said that the crib was not coming anymore since they didn't have one for us anymore. They didn't offer any solutions, just said no crib. I asked if there is a small bed they could wheel into our room and finally they agreed. Also there were a few blood stains on our bedsheets. Gross. I told all of this to reception when we checked out but they showed no concern.
The Sheratons transportation service is highly over priced use local cabs . They charge almost double the normal rate for shuttle service The shuttle service is highly over priced and they don't know where they are going
Don't leave the hotel after dark.
The atmosphere, the fact that is new and clean. The personnel of the hotel, the food during breakfast. I did not like the streets surrounding the hotel
Located on a pedestrian street within walking distance to many restaurants and bars. Room faced away from the street and was quiet. Room rate included free secure parking. The front desk staff were pleasant and helpful in pointing out local sites and places to eat.
All of the staff were friendly and helpful and their english was good. Jorge at the front desk was a super star. I'd had some challenges with my room on an earlier/previous stay and then again on my most recent stay so Jorge upgraded me to a suite. But they had remodeling construction going on and the suite was right above the noisy area so Jorge moved me to a nicer suite away from the noise and provided some other comforts to make up for the inconvenience. He really went out of his way to make me comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was excellent and the servers and cooks top notch. Unfortunately the remodeling construction was loud in the mornings if you wanted to sleep in. And although the location was central in San Jose with easy access to shops and taxi's the street noise from vendors yelling sometimes was irritating.
Located just off the bustling central street, the Hotel Presidente offers refined comfort in their modern-designed hotel. From friendly greeting from the staff to a tasty breakfast, our stay was pleasant from beginning to end. The location allows any traveler to find restaurants and the Teatre Nacional within minutes. For such a modern and refined hotel, we were surprised to find the window would not lock shut! Though we were up high, this "insecurity" may cause anxiety for some; for others, like us, we prefer to have the window open at night. Our bed was also surprisingly hard while among new bathroom facilities when also in a room with new bathroom facilities.
The professional staff was incredible.
Location was excellent-right on the pedestrian walkway convienient to stores, restaurants, and sights. Breakfast was included and had made to order eggs, and other offerings. Wi-fi was free. Rooms were very comfortable and very clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Very clean! Cool vibe. Great location. Incredible breakfast included. Very amicable staff.
The staff was very helpful. Or original room did not have the right beds for 4 adults. They immediately found us a better room, no questions asked.
This hotel needs remodeling. It looks old and the rooms are old fashion with very low ceiling and old and noisy a/c units. the breakfast plan included with the room is not buffet and honestly is very small portion. Infraestructure and poor breakfast.
Staff was unfriendly and did not help answer questions clearly.. The pool bar was closed and the "amenities" are really just available through the country club next door
this is a perfect place to spend a night after getting off a plane.
Stayed on 2 Saturdays a week apart. Big Parties and Events going on. Our room was too close to the action. Last night there was an event like senior prom. Kids running through the halls yelling. Nothing seemed to be done to curb the noise. When we finally left after no sleep at 5am, the party goers were still going strong. Front Desk didn't seem too interested in resolving either.
The room was spacious and clean. Good A/C The breakfast was vry good and freshly made. The staff is always helpful and the grounds are well maintained. We really like eating at the Kapanese restauarant Sakura
I like that the hotel provides transportation to/from the airport. Also the breakfast good variety. The staff was great ( the bell people) as well as the system technician I had an issue with my phone and he took his time to help me. I didn't like the condition of my room. I didn't mind the tower I had didn't have an elevator. But the rooms need an upgrade. When I got to my room the light didn't work so I used the lamp. The bathroom was in bad condition the tiles on the bathtub were cracked and missing the tub had a yellowish color. When I took a shower the water didn't drain right away so it was gross. The ceiling and floor of the bathroom in bad shape. The bed every time I moved the headboard will hit the wall and made a noise. They probably have better rooms I was told they are remodeling some of the rooms. I was in tower 5. I was just staying one night.
our room smelled terribly of mold and mildew. We wanted to eat breakfast but had to walk quite a ways to a bridge in order to cross a very busy highway to find a restaurant that was open. We chose this hotel for its free airport shuttle, but the shuttle operated after 5:00 AM and we needed to be at the airport before 5:00 AM to catch our 7:00 SM flight. We won't be staying there again! I also had to meet someone in the lobby and we both sat there sweating because the lobby was not air conditioned.
We just stayed for one night, but it was a great stay. The staff were extreamly helpful in getting us organized to fly out the next morning. I LOVE that they have their own IN-HOUSE taxi service. Makes getting out much more stress and hassle free. I wish I would have known that prior as we probably would have gone downtown. As it was, we just went to the Harly Davidson Shop via taxi. I love that the Hard Rock cafe is in the same parking lot (don't eat there though) and the mall is just across the highway (there is an over the freeway walk just down from the hotel). I HIGHLY recommend eating in the hotel at the Quattro (sorry about the spelling, but I have already tossed my receipt) It was really much better quality for the money compared to the Hard Rock food (yuck and high with poor service).
The Location was excellent. We especially liked the proximity to the Hard Rock Café and the shopping mall. The airport shuttle, the free wifi, complimentary luggage storage and having the breakfast included were the key factors in our decision to book this hotel. We originally booked one night and then a separate one night stay in order to tour the Tortuguero National Park, but due to severe flooding in that area we ended up returning early and checked in a night earlier. The staff was very accommodating and helped us to upgrade to a junior suite so that we could "Dry out" from our adventures. Being able to relax in comfort during our last day in Costa Rica really helped to finish our vacation on a positive note! The hotel was a little dated in it's furnishings and décor. The pool was chilly and had a quite a few leaves in it. The Jacuzzi pool heater was also not working, so it was chilly too. The room (Junior Suite) was nice with plenty of space, but also was a little dated. The Shower that was in the corner Jacuzzi tub was odd, especially because it did not have a curtain or door. Also it was a little awkward to step over the side of the deep tub to get in and out of the shower.
Hotel a\was very clean and comfortable. Restaurants were excellent. Staff was very helpful for us non-Spanish speaking guests. Hotel is located not far from the airport and across the highway from a shopping center. Steam Iron did not work.
The spa The wind
The customer service and breakfast were excellent! The pool is also nice to enjoy. We stayed in the deluxe room for 96 per night, but it wasn't so deluxe. The room was dated and the bathtub had permanent stains and a ring around it. We asked to see another room, but the bathroom was worse than the one that we was in. I was dissatisfied due to the price we paid.
After seeing my room, I was expecting the rest of the hotel to be run-down and in disrepair. I was happy that the breakfast buffet was good, and offered good selections, and everything there looked and 'felt' clean. Proximity to airport and free shuttle were plusses. I had a one-night stay in advance of my flight from the airport. So, I chose this hotel for proximity to airport and the free shuttle. The room was run-down. Not at all what I expected given the reviews. The bathtub had broken tiles; the bathroom floor had broken tiles and long stray hairs. All of that, of course, makes for an uncomfortable stay because one is constantly wondering about whether there are other lurking 'unseen' unclean/unsanitary conditions. My room looked "out" onto a glass enclosed hallway, so unless I wanted to be visible to anyone walking by, I had to keep my black out curtains closed.
I was amazed last week during the inauguration of the new Club Tower at the InterContinental Costa Rica. The rooms are beautiful and luxurious and the spa is just wonderful. The new gym is unique. You will not find something similar in Costa Rica. I am looking forward for my next trip to stay in one of the new rooms. Congratulations!!!
We stayed overnight after flying in late and left after lunch the next day. This place is not that close to the airport and the most direct way there involves some winding around back roads. So you either will get charged by the taxi to go all the way into San Jose and back out on the highway or you see some local scenery that will make you worry the driver is trying to rip you off. Price is reasonable by US standards but a little high compared to other options in the area. Figure in the price of the taxi and relative distance from airport and downtown. It is located next to a big mall and business area, but that was not why we were visiting CR. The room was fine. Comfortable and all the usual amenities of a nicer hotel. Unfortunately, smoking is allowed in the open lobby, so smoke permeates to the upper floors. Water is generally safe to drink in CR, but just to remind you, there is a little sign in the bathroom that tells you they filter the water. No need to pay for the bottled water in the room. Staff were the high point of the stay. Front desk was very helpful and was able to exchange money at a good rate. Concierge helped us change our car rental reservation from the airport to the downtown location and made sure we got there. This last part was important because they do not believe in street addresses in CR (instead, they say something like '200m east of McDonalds on Paseo Colon').
My son gave his Mother and I a trip to Costa Rica for our 50th anniversary present. We started out at the Real Intercontinental. As a former Pan Am employee, who frequented the Intercontinental Hotels (then owned and operated by Pan Am), I can say with certainty.......the Real has maintained the class and luxury that I.H. was always known for. The maintenance is excellent; the sevice impeccable; and the acommodations luxurious. Not to mention excellent cuisine in the restuarants. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Thank you to the management and staff of the Real Intercontinental, San Jose, Costa Rica. James A. & Norma Byers
This is a beautiful hotel with an extremly relaxing and luxurious pool setting. We used all the amenities including the gym, pools, spa and restaurants. The waiters, waitresses and spa employees were the nicest I think I've ever encountered at a hotel. Their professional and friendly service continued all week long! Which is why we were extremly shocked to witness the unprofessional and unaccomodating managment staff. We had to wait 2 hours for our room to be ready even though they gave us a specific check in time. Then for the 11:30am scheduled checkout they called us at 6:00am becuase they could not run our credit card on the restaurant tabs (we prepaid for the hotel). That was frustrating being woken up on our last day of vacation when we had a long day of travel ahead of us. Lastly, my husband stepped out of a restaurant to speak to a manager because the table next to us had a child that was standing next to us scream singing and pounding thier feet dancing along with the father. It was our anniversary so we went to the very expensive adult restaurant within the hotel but ended up having to leave our dinner becasue we could not even have a conversation. The manager did nothing.
This is a great hotel with a beautiful lobby, very comfortable guest rooms and a good selection of restaurants. The staff was very quick to respond. My only complaint is that it could be anywhere in the world; it doesn't have any local Costa Rican flavor.
I was very happily surprised by service: at frontdesk, at restaurants, event organization overall... everyone willing to help, and very friendly. A couple of highlights: the sushi restaurant is very good quality and reasonable prices...the beds are very comfortable...\nThe hotel is also strategically located close to all hotspots in town, the Escazu and Santa Ana areas...I highly recommend it!\n
Very different experience as a hotel , sort of a club in a constant happy hour. No shuttle to the airport and loud music playing all the time at the lobby .
When we arrived at Aloft, the lobby was packed with people. There was some kind of party going on. The staff told me I they didn't actually have a room for me, despite my reservation. Instead they told us we had to stay at the Hotel Indigo down the street. Indigo was fine, but they charged us more for the room, and it was not the room configuration we reserved at Aloft.
I liked that there was a bar on site and a pool table. The bathroom was spacious. The night we stayed there, a DJ was playing loud music in the reception area. I couldn't really hear the woman who was checking us in at the front desk.
Pros - Modern hotel/rooms - Diego at the front desk referred us to an awesome club nearby Cons - overwhelming sense of humidity in hotel room - smell of mold - front desk offered us a shuttle for $550 USD one way to Jaco. I told him that I had found a comparable shuttle for $150. He explained that that was impossible---that such a price was likely per person. I ended up booking the $150 shuttle for 7 passengers and it was amazing!
It's modern and with a good location. It feels knew and you'll enjoy the buffet in the mornings. It's definetly for young couples or business travelers Parking is very small if you want to be close to the hotel (only about 8 cars). If there are more than that you'll end up parking at another far away parking they share with other buildings. There isn't a swimming pool
This hotel had it all. I had a long layover and stayed here. It was the perfect place to relax with fabulous ammenities. No complaints! I wouldn't have changed a thing!
Practical, functional, lively young environment, good breakfast and friendly staff. AC compresors on roof above the 7th floor are not mechanically isolated. First night was like sleeping (not) with the compresor in the room. Staff acted surprised when I asked to be moved. Really? NO SLEEP ON THE 7th!
Nice stuff very helpful ,clean room , Nice and clean swimming pool and the delicious breakfast
King size bed The cockroaches.
service, Courtesy, confort, convenience
Good Dinner, free breakfast bar, convenient to airport, for 1 or 2 night stay. Nice courtyard/pool area. Free WiFi. Great for the price.
I liked the idea of a full breakfast No rice and beans on the breakfast buffett!!!!!! (Costa Rican Staple) seems as a converted property to use as a hotel. The rooms and grounds were set up strangely and there were many stairs to travel from location to location on grounds. If driving your own vehicle, this hotel is very hard to find.
The hotel is interesting. The rooms are also setup strangely but comfortable. Good breakfast This place was sooooooo hard to find. We drove past it a couple of times. It doesn't look like a "normal" Country Inn and Suites. We didn't have the luxury of a picture before we tried to find it. There was NO sign!! They claimed it was down getting repaired. The front lobby looks like an office building. Please get that sign up!!
Friendly sttaf, good location in the main city. It has breakfast Maybe for some an air conditioner will be necessary.
Best hostel that I have been to! Rooms are quite large and bathrooms are kept clean. Highly recommend this location for those looking to save some money!
Safe Laid back Very clean! The front desk staff friendly and helpful!
My sister and I stayed one night at Hotel Aranjuez. The service was amazing and room was clean and comfortable. We were nervous because we hadn't heard good things about San Jose, but we felt safe and welcomed as soon as we arrived at the hotel. The receptionist gave us great recommendations for restaurants and activities, and the hotel was close to most major sights. I would definitely recommend staying at Hotel Aranjuez!
This hotel has everything you need and is located in the middle of san Jose with easy access to transportation and all the downtown museums.
The staff When we got to the room we didn't have power for the lights or the ac so I called downstairs (the phone worked) and they informed me you have to insert your keycard in a slot by the door to get power. Weird but ok, I'll play along. After a couple hours of trying to get the ac to work and trying to sleep without it, I ended up calling the desk and having them take a look. They couldn't figure it out and moved us to a room right next door, which was an upgrade. The staff was great and helpful with the situation but the new ac didn't work much better. All in all, not a bad hotel. Great location, there was free breakfast we didn't get to enjoy, they opened my bottle of wine, and took great care of my complaint. However, there was a lot of construction which was a little weird to deal with and the ac is a huge thing for me. From the north and my house is constantly freezing.
The hotel is pretty central to everything. The staff is helpful. The room wa clean.
Proximity to everything. Warm water. Decent internet. Good quality sheets and comforter. Bed was hard. TV did not work well. No microwave. Thin walls so you can hear everything. No washcloths provided. Bottom entrance closes too early.
Very good hotel + friendly staff + spacious rooms + comfortable beds + great location + free breakfast = awesome
I love the location. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic. And the room was very clean. Our room didn't have a window. Just a glass door leading to a shaft.
Great front desk staff,(especially Christopher). Great walking location, such as, sight seeing around downtown, restaurants, shopping areas, and taxies was right there for your quick convenience, and even the city bus. Great breakfast every morning. I loved the place and look forward to returning soon. The beds was a little hard, however it didn't stop me from sleeping.
I liked he location. The fact that you could hear a conversation four rooms away.
Staff was friendly and easy to work with. Included breakfast was very good. Room felt old and dirty. Bed was very uncomfortable. There was no hot water in the shower. Very disappointed with this place.
Clean (like, immaculate!), pretty and comfortable. The perfect place to spend a night or two. The staff was friendly, the food was good, and the atmosphere was very peaceful. Walking distance to shops, downtown squares and panaderias. There is a train that runs behind the property a couple times a day. It's not too loud and we never heard it at night, but important to note for people who are really noise sensitive.
the breakfast was okay. location is okay if you're staying a night and have to go to the airport the next day. The front desk staff lacks professionalism. On one occasion, I was hoping to use the phone to book a tour. The front desk attendant said that he knew a better company and dialed a number and my friend didn't really ask for specifics and booked the tour. As a side note, that company that starts with the letter "M" was the worst experience I had in Costa Rica in terms of safety while driving. Not only did the front desk attendant have the audacity to refer us to this "M" company, when I called to ask what the company's name was he told me to act like we asked for the number and not tell anyone that he had referred us to them. This is not even the tip of the iceberg. On one occasion, my friend and I were getting a couple of drinks and since most people go out at night, we were called "squares" in Spanish for staying in and drinking at the hotel instead of outside. We found two cockroaches in the hotel which is normal since the front door is always open, but upon finding a third cockroach a day later, I managed to keep it under a glass and left it for the cleaning staff to discard because I forgot to do it. When we returned later that same night and the room was cleaned, we were not given a new glass. The cleaning staff rinsed the glass and left it on top of the desk. I mean, who does that? As a side note, the cockroach was about two inches big and touched the surface of the cup.
Nothing to Like They over charge you when you get there for stuff that you didnt even hear about it.
Upon arriving in Costa Rica, Hotel Grano de Oro was the first hotel my girlfriend and i stayed at. What i thought was going to be a decent place to catch some sleep before we headed north in the morning, turned out to be an amazing place, both modern and historic. The hotel is impeccable, the service - second to none. Though not as centrally located as some option, i found that this was not such a bad thing. A nice quiet evening in one of the two tropical hot tubs, was perfect after a long flight. And then there is the dining... The dining here, though not as traditional as some smaller places closer to the heart of the city, is top notch. Many locals agreed. There is also a great outdoor patio bar for those that want to unwind, which i did not hesitate to take advantage of! The ambiance is beautiful, and an extended awning makes even rainy evenings enjoyable. If you are staying in San Jose for any number of nights, this is a fantastic place. It is a bit of a walk to get to the central part of the city, but i found this enjoyable. Hotel staff will even lend you their umbrella!
We have stayed in as well as visited other hotels in CR and nothing compares. We are very critical of a hotel's cleanliness, staff, smell, etc so believe me when I say this place is SPECTACULAR!!! It is exactly what one would expect a nice hotel in this part of the world to be. The rooms are inviting and relaxing as is the rest of the hotel. Bellhops meeting you curbside with umbrellas when it's raining is a small example of the service you will receive. Breakfast in the courtyard is a must. Even if you aren't a millionaire, you'll feel like one before the end of your meal. The atmosphere, food and staff were all top notch. Grano De Oro is a unique and personable hotel unmatched, period.
We only stayed here one night before we left San Jose, but it was amazing. The staff were very helpful. They taught us a few phrases we needed to know and told us where we could get our money exchanged. They also gave us a few suggestions on where we could find a good meal. The rooftop hottubs were awesome. We went up there and relaxed and watched the stars. It felt as if we were miles away from the city, yet in the middle of it! There's also an amazing little bakery just down the street! The room was clean and cozy. The area we were in was like being inside a hotel, yet still outside. It's a great place to stay!
The restaurant in the hotel is wonderful. Staff is extremely helpful.
This is a gorgeous hotel right in downtown San Jose. About 20 minutes from the airport ($25 USD cab ride) and within walking distance (15 min) from the main plaza for shops/market. The staff are excellent. Everyone speaks very good english, very friendly, helpful and make you feel welcome. Security is also good with visible security out front of the hotel after dark (important in San Jose). We stayed two nights in a regular room with a small terrace and loved it. After returning from our coastal vacation we stayed another night in the top floor villa suite. This suite is fantastic and I definitely recommend it for someone who wants to spend the extra money for a memorable night. I highly recommend this hotel if you are staying in San Jose.
