10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our rooms were amazing! They were spacious and so beautiful. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and very generous. Abuela, who checked us in and showed us around, was so kind and informative. She went out of her way to ensure we had a wonderful stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was the best we’ve stayed at in Northern Spain. The room was a suite with a lovely spacious balcony that overlooked the ocean. It was very well appointed and the host was very helpful and friendly. It was extremely good value for money and the breakfast was only 3.50€!!! The hotel also arranged for us to take our motorcycles off the road for safe keeping. Would highly recommend.
Cons: The only negative I have is that I would have liked a soft pillow.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very well kept stone house, nicely remodeled, great ambiance. Friendly owners. Fantastic views. Very clean. Restaurant is also excellent. Highly recommended!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our gracious hostess, the view from our bedroom and the comfortable bed
Cons: Nothing- only would have like to sampled the restaurant. Because we were visiting on Monday, restaurant was closed
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The young lady who checked us in was totally charming. This hotel was formerly a home, and family still lives in part of it. The older woman popped in to be sure we knew how to turn on the heat (which we totally understood even though she spoke no English). Unfortunately, it was too cold and windy to enjoy the terrace, which offered a view of the sea and the port. The "sweet breakfast" was completely fantastic and way more than we could eat.
Cons: Sadly, the hotel's restaurant was not open that night. They did refer us to a place down the street, where we enjoyed a huge dinner of paella and squid, along with some cidra and beer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: very nice place to stay. friendly staff

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charming old building, wonderful cooked breakfast, a rarity in Spain, no parking but easy to find street parking in off season.
Cons: Building interior was heated like a pizza oven, it was 15C degrees outside, I had to open the windows.

Pros: This hotel is amazing. SO beautifully decorated and in a lovely position. Every window has beautiful views either of the mountains or of the sea. The breakfast was delicious and the owner and the staff couldn't do enough to make sure we got exactly what we wanted ! We felt like Royalty ! The furnishings, fixtures and fitting are stunning. The beds are super comfortable and the bathroom was very luxurious.
Cons: Our room key was a bit stiff and difficult to use ...but we informed the owner and I'm sure she will have fixed it quickly.

Pros: The principal quality of the hotel is its amazing localization with a panoramic view of landscape and high mountains that seems like a picture (always changing). The larger windows of rooms and the terrace allow us to keep this romantic and splendid view during all our stay. Besides, we are in a 5 star hotel very well decorated with art paintings and sculptures, with all commodities, a wonderful restaurant and cuisine chief and dedicated staff- all this in a beautiful small village in deep contact with nature. Incredible!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazingly beautiful Luxurious
Cons: Couldn’t lower air conditioning temp below 22 degrees
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is very peaceful, nested in the mountains in Asturias, in a very small town, next to a small farm where you hear the cows and sheep and birds. Great views. we had dinner and the food was spectacular, I had the lamb "lechazo", delicious, and my husband had the merluza fish which he said was great as well. THe breakfast was also delicious, the bread, made on site, fruit, yogurt, natural juice, coffee, and eggs made as wished... the welcome reception was by a nice lady who showed us the premises, We also had the hydromassage tour which was very relaxing. I wish we had stayed longer

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Probably the best hotel in Asturias.
Cons: I liked almost everything. The second night the restaurant was pretty slow ...
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, hotel, and view. We were well taken care of from check in, at the restaurant, until driving away. The price is high, but you can’t get a better view. We went to relax and it was perfect. We could sit outside in silence taking in the breathtaking views of the Picos de Europa, all you can hear were the bells on the donkey and sheep. Very peaceful and a great place to get back to nature.
Cons: Everything was wonderful. Price was high but understandably so.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Lovely property with excellent staff and an awesome restaurant.
Cons: Only complaint was after an excellent meal the first night I ordered, the hamburger the second night and it was just a hamburger, nothing like the fantastic food we had the first night. My score here is probably a bit low but I marked it down on value for money as it was an expensive stay in $AU but I'm probably being unfair. The property really is lovely

Pros: Location and view were over the top. Staff were helpful if a little reserved. Breakfast was the best on the trip and we ate on the terrace just a stones throw from the ocean. Nice quiet location with views of gardens and the coast.the rooms were all tastefully decorated full of character. A great hotel.
Cons: More choice at breakfast.
6.4 Good
Pros: The hotel had a wonderful remote feeling to it with mountain and ocean views while only being 2 km. from the town of Colunga. The hotel was beautiful, the rooms well-decorated, and very clean. Soda, water, wine, etc., are available in the lobby and are charged on an honor system - very convenient. The breakfast had at least one home-cooked item (usually a tortilla) and had quite a lot of food & variety.
Cons: The hotel staff was rude. For example, on one occasion we asked for directions to Picos de Europa park and they told us to go to the roundabout and look for the signs (there are no signs until you're in the park).
4.4 Okay
Pros: the room was comfortable & the hotel had a magnificent lounge
Cons: There was no evening meal available & the car park was a long way from the hotel reception & access roads were not surfaced.

Cons: Asturias is known for fish but we were served old strong fish that was claimed to be the fish of the day. The hotel was nearly empty.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The service was really good overall and the sea bream I ate as one of the specials in the restaurant was exceptional, freshly caught and landed in the nearby fishing village called Lastres. Also, the view from the restaurant can only be described as breathtaking.
Cons: The bar was closed at midnight and this was a Friday night we stayed! Very strange for a hotel in Spain never mind a 5 star one. The receptionist was very helpful and organised some drinks for us in the end but it was all a bit of a hassle.

Pros: The style and creativity of the hotel was exceptional. Really imaginative and beautifully done. Will definitely like to return one day. Excellent location for the Camino. Good secure place for bicycles overnight.
Cons: Everything was great . However...Just make sure you understand about the locking up overnight incase you need to leave early. Let the staff know your plans the night before so they know to unlock the reception area.

Pros: Very nice staff. Wifi was 100 MB. Idyllic, great use of a very old building. Rare authenticity.
Cons: Some street noise, but really not much.

Pros: Wonderful room with a private terrace, ideal for a wine. The bed was ultra comfortable. Found an English Channel on TV. Bathroom excellent with high class towels. Bed linen also high quality. 9.5 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous breakfast
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is great -right on the Camino. The staff is very friendly.
Cons: I had a bad experience -that I guess can happen anywhere. I had dinner at the property and 5 hours later, I started vomiting and developing fever. It was either the mushroom or the shrimp croquettes... It ruined 3 days on my Camino that I could not walk at all and had to bus :-(. The staff was very friendly and the only surprise I had is that I was still charged for the meal and the camomille tea they offered me the next morning since I could not stomach anything. Of course I had those items, it was just a thought.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved everything! The room is very beautiful so as the hotel. Close to Camino del Norte , perfect location (near the centre but on a quiet road). laundry service for €10. Private patio. The best hotel I have seen in Spain so far.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is close to the centre of town with lots of eating options. Cute hotel with character.
Cons: Since it is on a main road, the front rooms are exposed to traffic noises. The double bed is small for two people. Two twins together or a queen would be better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Small but charming hotel in a good location and very caring staff. Nice pilgrim menu provided. Great breakfast
Cons: Nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel, very friendly and helpful staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel Babu was a lovely, stylish small and quiet hotel with very welcoming and accommodating staff. The family rooms were two large interconnecting rooms with very comfortable beds and black out blinds. The owner was very kind and went to extra lengths to organise an evening meal for us. The breakfast was very good also. This is a great part of Asturias with so much to do in both the coast and the mountains and Hotel Babu makes a great base.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful host and the breakfast was particularly fine
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beds are amazing- environment quiet and a delight to rest - interior is beautiful Dîner was perfect and we felt well attended despite only one person running the show. A lovely time!
Cons: Breakfast served too late we paid for nothing as we had to go early (8 am) and it was served from 9. Very disappointed as I asked if I would be charged and was told yes. It never happened to me in 20 years of travelling the world. Fixtures in the bathroom are cheap and broken. Hot water takes forever to run.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel El Babú was very beautiful and comfy. Very nice hotel, good staff. We were in Room 6, which is on the top floor - I would recommend it.
Cons: We visited the area in mid-September and the area was just falling off of the summer season. Restaurants were a little sparse and the night we were there was a Sunday. The best restaurants in the area are closed on Sunday, unfortunately. That has nothing to do with the Hotel or its service.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing views and fab room.
Cons: Wine by the glass needs to be improved and dinner is nice but expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good facilities and food. Quiet with fantastic views

Tito Gustillo Caves are 15 minutes away by car and it is 70 km to the Picos de Europa Mountains.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Helpful staff and nice property with a lot of old rural charm. The decoration of the property was especially well chosen.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location. The initial drive up to the property very picturesque. A lot of potential, this could be a great hotel.
Cons: Made to wait a long time at check-in whilst a phone call was taken, poor! The onsite restaurant had been closed for some time, and no bar.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, with everything that you could possibly need. Friendly staff and delicious Spanish (rather than international) breakfast. Perfect location for breaking a journey.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We liked the location of the hotel which is a little out of the town and a short way from the sea. We were only at the hotel for an evening as we were on the way to catch the ferry back to England, but we took the opportunity to take a walk up to the cliffs and through a wood to Colunga beach. It's a little up hill at times but nothing too strenuous. If you wanted to spend the day at the beach there are quicker ways to walk or drive. The hotel itself has a lot of local character and our room had a good unobstructed view of the mountains. There was a good choice for breakfast which we ate outside on the patio. All in all, we enjoyed our short stay at the hotel and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful.
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff was great and property is beautiful.
Cons: Poor wifi and 1.2 km out of town for people doing the Camino del Norte.
7.0 Good
Pros: The owner’s mother and the cleaner were very friendly. The hotel has a driver to take you to and from their restaurant in nearby Lastres. The hotel is situated in a beautiful setting and the cost for a room including breakfast and dinner is very reasonable. The bed was big and comfortable but the room was a bit dark even in the daytime.
Cons: We tried calling several times before we arrived and could not get anyone. When we arrived at the hotel the reception was deserted and no-one came when we rang the bell. On the desk was a list of guests with room numbers and keys so we took ours and let ourselves in! When the receptionist arrived sometime later he seemed a bit surly.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: There was a lovely breakfast provided every morning and the staff were very helpful and pleasant to deal with. The bedroom was spacious and traditional with a large, comfortable bed. It is situated in very peaceful surroundings and we managed to great a great sleep uninterrupted. We had a walk to the beach which was a little tricky to navigate but it was a pleasant experience in rural Spain. The bathroom was modern and spacious. There was a view of the countryside with horses from out window and in the distance, some sort of wild mammal could be seen entering the forrest. Fascinating!
Cons: I couldn't really complain about much. Maybe it is more of slight on myself and my girlfriend as we don't speak Spanish, but no one seemed to have any English. Still, we managed to get past that as the staff tried to communicate as best they could.
Hotel La Isla - Colunga - Building

8.7 Excellent (680 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Colunga, Hotel La Isla is by the sea, within a 10-minute drive of Lastres Beach and Port of Tazones. Featured amenities include luggage storage and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A good stopover on the Camino. The staffs were friendly and helpful.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We were walking the Camino Norte and choose to stay in La Isla rather than going further into Colunga as we wanted to be near the sea. So the hotel location met this requirement. However, it is essentially a good budget value accommodation -- very reasonably priced with a friendly helpful host. There is no food facility within the hotel, except access to a coffee machine and we were able to use the restaurant to eat our own takeaway food. The host was very amenable to helping us and allowing us to use his facilities. Once you are prepared for the lack of local services, the bedroom accommodation represents very good value and provides what you want in terms of bathroom facilities etc. in a reasonable sized room.
Cons: The main issue for us was the lack of nearby café/restaurant services and of a good supermarket. The nearby café was closed (it was a Monday) but we got the impression that it opens "whenever it suits the owners"! Likewise, there was a very small shop which traded local hours (closed in afternoon and also closed early in evening at about 8pm ) which did provide sandwiches and bread rolls with fillings and did cook a limited variety of pizzas -- which we thoroughly enjoyed! (When you are hungry, you appreciate anything!). It had also some refrigerated beer bottles and a small selection of wines . But one could be disappointed with the lack of availability of food services etc. on arrival to stay in La Isla -- especially when you have been walking and have no transport available . Some of our friends arrived in La Isla in the mid afternoon after walking long distances to find no food or refreshments available as the little shop had closed for the afternoon and there was no café or bar facility open or available. it was almost an emergency!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really spacy room, good bed, small bathroom, but ok. A mobile heater to dry your clothes if you're hiking on the Camino del Northe!!! Mobile air conditioning device. Super market in 100m, beach 350m. Restaurant in 50m. Extraordinary kindly and helpful staff! Thank you for tips to get medicine for injured ankle, taxi & alternative hotel (fully booked, sadly couldn't expand our booking). Price for double room was 40€ in mid of June. What a bargain compered to previous stays in other locations! Recommend this hotel for short term holiday.
Cons: Nothing to mention! Would pay more money for additional options of better breakfast (scrumbled eggs, ham, cheese, fruits instead of 2 slices white toast)
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location and price
Cons: Nothing
6.8 Good
Pros: Location is perfect if you want a simple hotel very close to a very nice beach.
Cons: Our rooms really smelled bad (suspect it was the previous tenants who left something that stank in the bathroom, because the smell did go away after a day); the other room smelled like stale smoke.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff made every effort to accommodate our needs.
Cons: Not a lot of nearby restaurants.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The shower

9.3 Excellent
Cons: West facing room was very hot in the afternoon.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The place is very clean. The young lady who acted as receptionist and waitress is very helpful and sweet. The room is a decent size. The bed is very comfortable. I love the big cushion with the changeable cover. I don’t normally use hotel cushions but I used the one because I know the cover has been cleaned. The location is great, one block off the Camino. The Dia market just just downstairs. The laundromat is two blocks away.
Cons: The food at the restaurant is very salty. Both courses were heavily salted. I have spent a good amount of time in Spain and eaten at many restaurants there. This is the saltiest food ever. When I indicated I could not eat the second course because of the saltiness they had the good grace to replace it with a different choice that is not so salty.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, service, friendly approach, cleanness, cuisine
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Helpfull, good location, off the motorway . Very quiet.
4.3 Okay
Cons: The biggest problem was the smell. I believe that our room smelled like mold. Though we left the window open all night, it did little to air the room out. We were nervous to leave the window ooen since we were on the first floor and someone could have easily climbed in but we took the risk given the bad smell. Also, the bedsheets were dirty, smelled bad, and had reddish-brown stains on them. It was hard to tell whether the stains were blood (which raises concerns of bed bugs, though we checked the mattresses and I do not believe there were any) or something else. The floor and surfaces of the room also needed a wipe down. The bathroom was clean as were the towels and staff were very nice. Overall, it was not a clean or comfortable stay and I would not stay here again.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice hotel not too far from the centre of Colunga. Beds were comfortable all no problems with hot water or wifi.
Cons: There were quite a few mosquitos in the room
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Private car park. Comfortable beds. Room quite spacious. Nice lady owner. Perfect for a two day trekking and walking trip. Great value as well
Cons: The heating system was only just adequate
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I had a fantastic stay it was just a shame it was only one night. It can be intimidating when traveling alone but the owners are so friendly and welcoming. They have secure motorcycle parking under the Hotel and after a long hot day a dip in the pool was just what was needed. The beach, restaurants etc are just a stroll away and the balcony in the room was a great place to relax with a beer of an evening. Would definitely recommend.

5.5 Okay
Pros: The beds are comfortable and it’s clean.
Cons: Unfortunately the village has nowhere to eat, there is no restaurant that serves cooked food and apparently the hotel is not allowed to provide anything either. So if you have no car and go there in the off season be prepared to go to bed hungry and thirsty. The room was very small and dark. It was definitely not worth the money.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Really lovely, modern rooms, very helpful family run ! Straight onto the beach from the hotel, beautiful island opposite the beach can be reached at low tide. Parking was easy. Dogs welcomed ! Pilgrims walk and ancient trenches can be visited, aswell as stunning cliff walks either side of beach.
Cons: Quite pricey, but good quality...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice, nice staff, nice bar, nice location.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is perfectly situated just a few metres from the beach, we stayed in July before the peak holiday period and didn't have too much difficulty parking close to the hotel. Colunga is a very short drive away where you will find plenty of cafés, restaurants and shops. La Isla itself is a beautiful quite village, the beach is fantastic and there is a paddle board hire shop where you can hire out boards and wetsuits. Our room in the hotel was very clean, well equipped, had a balcony and overlooked the beach, it could not be faulted, also the hotel allows pets which was a major consideration for us. The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English as well as Spanish, the current owners are from the Netherlands. We would absolutely go back again
Cons: The breakfast had plenty of variety but if you are not a big breakfast eater the cost is rather expensive if all you want or need is some cereal, toast and some coffee. If you like a big breakfast, you'll love it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: very helpful and they were happy with the dog
Cons: no problems - would go back
8.8 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was lovely. Ideal for what we needed on Camino. Staff were extremely helpful and efficient
Cons: Everything was perfect
4.5 Okay
Pros: The loction to the beach
Cons: No facilities Room awful and no ventilation. Sky light was the only natural light and ventilation but if left open posed a security issue as well as letting in bugs from outside. Sewer smells constant in the room. Shower cubicle very small and no room for an average sized person. Ceiling height on one side of the bed is at 1.2m and to exit the bed during the night posed problems. This room should only be listed as a loft and not a small room. VERY DISAPPOINTED
