Wompoo Eco Retreat has a two self-contained private bungalows. The Mangosteen Bungalow has similar interior design as the Rambutan Bungalow (see separate listing if the Mangosteen is booked for the dates suited to you) with an indoor/outdoor shower that has views over the rainforest, plus a real king-size bed. It also has an outdoor rammed earth bath. The bungalow's construction uses rammed earth to ensure a cool interior and designed to maximise views of the mountain ranges from the bedroom and bathroom. We provide our guests with complimentary breakfast accessing good quality produce, and where possible, source it locally. At Wompoo Retreat we take advantage of our remoteness and living “off the grid” by providing bird watching binoculars rather than a television. The bungalow has private undercover seating with self contained cooking facilities. The proximity of each bungalow provides privacy for our guests. Elevated on a hill to capture tropical breezes, the property has stunning views to Thornton Peak, Cape Tribulation and the Coral Sea. We are located in close proximity to beautiful Cow Bay Beach, numerous waterholes, mangroves and rainforest boardwalks. Wompoo Retreat gets its name from the `Wompoo Fruit Dove’, a beautiful dove with an amazing purple breast, and green, yellow and white markings. This bird has a very unusual call. Listening to the Wompoo is like listening to a human conversation, but seemingly muted and far away. Our retreat is so named due to the presence of this lovely bird. A significant area of the property has trees with discrete open spaces as well as tranquil spots to enjoy the flora and fauna. Further, there is a creek, meandering through Wompoo that ensures a welcome retreat for quieter contemplation. Guests have access to - - King size bed with quality linen - Outdoor undercover self-catering facilities - Fridge - Handmade soap (made on the property by your hosts) - Wi-Fi (available on request) - Continental breakfast of local fruit, bread and condiments including, museli, plunger coffee (see photo of what to expect), - an assortment of local Daintree teas and biodynamic milk We are a friendly couple who respect people's privacy. Our house is 20 metres away from the bungalow. Guests are more than welcome to come up to the house if they have any questions, would like any advice on the area or need to access the wi-fi. We also take bookings for reef trips and other activities in the area. Wompoo Retreat is ideally situated. Just five kilometres from the beautiful Cow Bay Beach, 20 minutes from the Daintree River and 30 minutes to Cape Tribulation. Other easily accessible places are Hutchinson Creek, the Daintree Discovery Centre, Coopers Creek Wilderness tours, Canoe Tours, tropical ice cream outlets and a yoga retreat. Reef trips from Cape Tribulation can be arranged by your hosts and is only a 30 minute drive away. There are a number of restaurants and a hotel in the area, however, if you would like to eat in at your accommodation the bungalow is equipped for self catering. We recommend purchasing supplies either in Cairns, Mossman or Port Douglas. There is a small convenience store in Cow bay. With prior arrangement, a range of beverages can be made available. During the two hour drive from the Cairns International and Domestic Airports, you will travel the scenic Coral Sea coastline till you cross the Daintree River by ferry. Once aboard the iconic ferry you can sense the change of pace as you slowly switch off and start your journey of digital detoxing. The return cost on the ferry is $26, you can choose to purchase a visitors book if you want to have the option of multiple trips. House Rules It is because of the eco values of this area that we choose to live here, yet want to share this place with you. We reduce our human foot-print with thought placed on how we live. The spring water on our property is from an artesian fracture with no pesticides or herbicide input, and is tested, therefore safe for drinking. We generate our own solar power, but in times of high electricity demand, or little sun we may use the generator for short periods. You will notice the limited number of power points and the higher reliance on gas, this is to minimise power usage. We ask that high powered devices like hairdryers and shavers are not used. Check in from 2pm, check out 10.00am. A compost bin is provided for your food scraps. These will be placed in our compost and eventually end up in the garden. Smoking Policy We respect your right to smoke, however, it is not permitted inside the bungalows. Smoking is allowed on the deck area PROVIDED THAT all windows and doors remain closed. An ashtray is provided and we request that all cigarette butts, ash, tobacco or any used smoking product is disposed of correctly. Please don’t take any soiled ashtrays inside the accommodation.
Pros: The views were amazing. Lovely array of breakfast fruits, good quality muesli, coffee and teas. Handmade soaps and bath salts were lovely and the outdoor bath was amazing. The bathroom has a half wall surrounding it so you can enjoy the beautiful mountain and rainforest canopy views whilst showering. The cabin was very clean and the garden had pineapples, lemon grass and bananas. Stunning property. The hosts were very welcoming. The cabin was super private. Had all modern comforts and off grid. Lovely stay. And lovely BIG bed.
Cons: The only thing was it was a bit hard to relax in the afternoon with the sun beating down on you in the Outdoor sitting area. There is shade cloths but no shade in mid afternoon, but we sat in the bath to get out of the sun.
Pros: Loved the eco philosophy which is very evident. Beautiful peaceful location. Warm helpful hosts
Cons: Only option was to self cater. Need nearby cafes with decent food
Pros: My dream place! Everything was environmentally friendly/ hand-made. Amazing selection of wholesome breakfasts and teas! Outside bathroom was incredible! View was to die for. Plus the owners were so lovely!
Pros: The room was unique and facilities were great. Brekky was fantastic
Cons: The pillows were quite hard and save us neck aches but we just prefer soft pillows so it a personal thing. Overall the place was amazing
Pros: Beautiful views bathroom open to nature everything provided helpful hosts
Pros: This is a unique experience. The views are spectacular and evoke a true feeling of the rainforest. The accommodation is of a very high quality, combining a feeling of the outdoors with comfort. The equipment and furniture is of a very high standard.
Pros: The view was amazing !!! Location is unique and you feel really great watching sunset on the deck. From there you can see everything around you over the forest. Facilities are useful for self catering. Very quiet.
Cons: Garbages should be taken over everyday. Shampoo was also missing which can be an issue for 3 days
Located in Cow Bay, The Epiphyte Bed & Breakfast is by the ocean, within a 5-minute drive of Jindalba Boardwalk and Daintree Discovery Centre. Featured amenities include express check-in, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: We booked the cottage, completely privacy, lovely surroundings, serenity, recommended for family trip in the Daintree
Pros: No Wi-Fi or phone signal is wonderful for a few days. Breakfast was excellent and the hosts were charming. Location was perfect with gorgeous views. Very peaceful.
Cons: As this is a remote location there is understandably no WiFi or phone signal.
Pros: my children loved the surroundings and the communal breakfast was lovely
Cons: more ice for the cool box would be good
Pros: This place is a hidden gem. The cabin nestled in the rainforest was just perfect and so private. Wildlife sounds galore. Views beautiful. And Trish and Kev were delightful hosts. We will certainly be returning at next opportunity.
Pros: This is a wonderful place. Managers Trish and Kev are very capable and hospitable, we couldn't have been better looked after. Delightful company. Fabulous tropical fruits and home made jams for breakfast along with a range of cereals including muesli. An excellent library. We particularly appreciated that the Epiphyte is off the grid and sustainable, even though this means shorter showers. Which is a good thing. We left feeling relaxed, energized and pampered. We could easily have stayed longer.
Pros: Excellent with local fruit.
Pros: Very friendly and resourceful owners, our room was spotless and had an own veranda. There were options sleeping inside the room or outside at the veranda. The breakfast was healthy including interesting new sorts of fruit.
Cons: Nothing to complain about.
Pros: Breakfast was delicious and plenty; great location in the middle of the rain forest; camping in comfort having a comfortable extra bed in the veranda.
Pros: Breakfast was delicious and healthy. Our hosts chatted to us and gave us some good tips. I really enjoyed their company.
Located in Cow Bay, Daintree Rainforest Retreat is within a 5-minute drive of Daintree Discovery Centre and Jindalba Boardwalk. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Staff member was extremely helpful and friendly. Gave a great overview of the area and was always checking in on us to see how our day has gone.
Pros: Clean and beautiful gardens. Rooms were awesome
Pros: Emily is a fabulous host and helped us plan our visit to the Daintree so well. She supplied us with torches for our spotlighting bushwalk and organised a wonderful croc tour for us. The hotel and location is perfect for families. It has a Bbq to cook your own dinner and breakfast eggs and bacon. There were lovely green tree frogs sitting next to the pool at dusk and it was just lovely sleeping in the rainforest.
Cons: Nothing - it was exactly what we needed for a family stay.
Pros: The new owners are delightful, the welcome was very friendly and informative, clearly they are very enthusiastic to make your stay enjoyable, which was very warming. The property lies just off the highway close to the Cow Bay turn off on the opposite side of road....if you’re hungry there’s the cow bay pub Togo eat. The property has a barby though for cooking outside and most rooms have a Kitchener, we had one with amd one without. The rooms are clean and roomy with a settee.. ...it’s close to the daintree discovery center a short three min drive away which is worth goung to,we saw a cassowarythere wandering in the trees.....the property has a pool, but we didn’t use it as weather was cloudy. Value for money stay, you won’t find much cheaper unless you go backpacker prices up this way. My daughter thought the decor in her room was “ cool”!
Cons: Everything was good. We stayed two nights .
Pros: Great location not far from the ferry or local restaurants. The owner Travis was fantastic and assisted with everything including booking tours and providing local knowledge. The room was very clean with basic facilities including cable tv, small fridge and comfortable sitting area. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The beds were very comfortable and it was great to have ceiling fans.
Cons: The outdoor area wasn't as private as I would have liked. There's also no kitchenette. The wifi access was very limited although that was part of the charm of being in the rainforest and is a feature of the Daintree.
Pros: Privacy of the room. Cleanliness. Good size fridge. Husband enjoyed the cable tv in the evening.
Pros: Superb place, very friendly staff, very clean, neat and quiet family room. Not far from the road but in the middle of the bush. Lovely place to explore the Daintree Forest. We stayed a few days and loved the place. Highly recommended. We would definitely go there again!
With access to a natural freshwater creek for swimming, Cow Bay Homestay B&B is a 17-minute drive from the Daintree Rainforest. Guests can relax outdoors in the spectacular gardens or book an activity through the tour desk. Cow Bay B&B is a 7-minute drive from the Daintree Airport and a 20-minute drive from the Daintree River. Cape Tribulation is a 35-minute drive away. All air-conditioned rooms feature garden views and a lounge area. They offer a bathroom with free toiletries, a shower and a toilet. Some rooms have mountain views. Guests can socialise in the shared lounge/library area or enjoy the lovely views outdoors on the terrace.
Pros: Cowbay homestay was the perfect way to stay right inside the forest whilst having all the comforts of a beautiful hotel. It’s clean and homely with great views into the wild and well maintained gardens. On top of that, Marion is the most welcoming and fantastic host. Her local knowledge made it so easy for us to explore the area with limited prior research. She made us feel right at home and was always happy to help with any questions we had. I highly recommend staying here.
Pros: The breakfast Marion made everyday was delicious. The location was right in the heart of the rainforest so was able to sleep and wake to the wonderful sounds of the jungle.
Pros: What a beautiful timber house in the jungle! Decorated with an Asian theme, all wooden floors and paravans. Large windows allow the greenery of the lush garden in. We booked the two rooms and had the house for us.
Cons: There is no telephone signal in the area - the nearest point to get a signal is a bungalow hotel a few km away. No wifi of course, so there may be a problem for internet addicts. Not a negative but something to consider - there is no village or any kind of real settlement in Cow bay - just houses dispersed in the jungle. A couple of hotels nearby offer meals...that’s about it in terms of “civilisation”. None of the beaches north of Port Douglas is swimmable because of crocodles.
Pros: Great location for a true rainforest experience. Marion was a great host, knowledgeable and provided a filling breakfast to get the day started.
Pros: Peace, quiet, tranquillity, nature. Our host Marion was absolutely fabulous, great service, meals, wonderful advice on what to see and do, and very welcoming. Thank you Marion, you made our stay special.
Pros: Such a lovely place to stay. We where overwhelmed by the location and the host. We would absolutely love to stay there again.
Pros: Loved this property and our wonderful host Marion. This place offered us an authentic local experience and a little piece of paradise.
Pros: Given lots of info and recommendations at check-in so was able to make the most of every day
When you a stay at Heritage Lodge in Diwan, you'll be on the riverwalk, just steps from Daintree Rainforest and Alexandra Bay Waterfall. Featured amenities include luggage storage, laundry facilities, and a library. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Nicely tucked into the rain forest. Relaxed vibe. Nice people and service. The owner was friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. They even offered a back with a flashlight and umbrella! Nicde touch. Really enjoyed our stay.
Pros: This is just an amazing property right in the rainforest - The sounds and the wildlife all around was just great. If you are in the daintree the property is really very central to everything of interest. Just a fantastic stay.
Cons: The only thing I was a little unhappy with was the side orders of food with the evening meal - The main part was always done well and presented nicely but anything added as an extra was not cooked correctly or presented nicely.
Pros: Location-surrounded by rainforest
Cons: Larger fridge would’ve been good
Pros: We loved the away-from-the-world feel of Heritage Lodge - swimming in the swimming holes in the evenings, eating breakfast looking out over the rainforest, being in close proximity to Cape Tribulation and so many other features - everything was amazing. The staff helped us plan our days and make bookings for activities - they were so helpful and made our trip that much better. We hope we can make it back someday!
Pros: The staff were fantastic, very accommodating and helpful. The restaurant was delicious and had a great view and atmosphere (make sure to make a reservation for lunch and dinner). Very hearty meals including kangaroo. Breakfast was a tasty simple menu of pastries, bread, fruit, yoghurt, cereals and percolator coffee. Gluten free bread was available on request. The pool was small but nice with some banana lounges and shade from trees. The location is incredible - very quiet, beautiful, lots of lush rainforest, water holes, little walks and an easy drive to all the things to see and do north of the Daintree river.
Cons: The beds were uncomfortable. Simple mattress on a frame which would have been fine for a couple of nights but after 5 my back was sore. The fan and air conditioner were quite noisy. Wi-Fi is available at the restaurant but it is a rather expensive third party service.
Pros: Very pleasant and helpful resort staff.
Cons: Old type and noisy aircon, rusty fridge in the bathroom.
Pros: The setting is amazing. What an experience to stay in the Daintree. Cocktails at happy hour were also good, sit by the creek and listen to the sounds of the forest
Pros: Comfortable and clean . Gorgeous location . Owner lovely lady
Cons: Dinners a bit pricey , one of the staff quite rude. When I sat down to eat dinner , she stated "I'll just move your placemat ". I sat opposite to where seating was placed. Disappointing as I apologized and she said nothing .

Pros: Easy access
Pros: It was convenient to a nearby wedding
Pros: This hotel was exactly what we wanted. Not expensive, just a comfortable and clean place to stay for the night. Having a continental breakfast provided was appreciated. Staff were friendly and the rooms are to the side of the hotel, where you can of course have dinner or a beer.
Pros: It can sleep a family if 4 . My son and I stayed . Pub next to the accommodation so easy to get meals . Breakfast was included . Staff were organised , helpful and polite . Thanks guys . Leon
Pros: Good location near Cow Bay and the Daintree Centre. The staff was polite and friendly. Good breakfast included in the price.
Cons: The beds were old and saggy and gave us a sore back.
Pros: The hotel has a nice local vibe. Nice authentic Australian bar with excellent food! They also serve a nice breakfast!
Cons: The room was rather small and one bed had a very thin matrass.
Pros: Basic but clean, a real outback experience!
