All rooms feature views of Almejal beach, the Pacific ocean and Choco's tropical rainforest. Certain units have a seating area where you can relax. Each room comes with a private bathroom. There is room service at the property. The area is popular for snorkelling and diving.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It feels like home away from home. Monica and Jupi are very nice and helpful. They organise tours for you with local guides. The breakfast is very nice. The location is amazing (Just next to a wunderful beach.) We had a great time and would recomend the hill b&b to everyone.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Monica and Jupi are very interesting people and excellent hosts. El Morro has a fabulous location right on the beach with whales passing by. Great deck above the ocean for relaxing and having a beer Excellent breakfast and comfortable rooms. Wonderful if expensive tours available for Nat Park and whale watching. A totally different Colombian experience and a great place to unwind and enjoy the isolation.
Cons: Dinner was available at a high price but we were encouraged to go out at night to support the local restaurants. Maybe some snack meals would be a good option occasionally.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location, overlooking the beach and sea. We could even spot sometimes whales from the terrace. The room is very spacious. You could easily walk down from the house to the beach. You have to walk a little further down the beach where you can swim (or surf). There are a couple of restaurants nearby and otherwise you can also walk to El Valle village (about 15 min.) to enjoy some other restaurants or buy some stuff at little shops. It is a beautiful place to stay. Monica and Juppi can help you with arranging trips like whale-watching, visiting the El Tigre waterfall (recommendable) and other things. Choco has a beautiful, wild coast. Our 6-year old daughter also loved the place very much as she could just play down at the beach in the sand and between the rocks with one of the neighbour kids.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is just perfect. Everything is according to the pictures. The location is the best you could find in El Valle - Right on the beach. The view from the rooms is outstanding. Plus Monica and Jupi, the owners are the best hosts ! Helpful and really nice. We felt like home the moment we came in. This place is definetly a must go and we highly recommend it
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If you want to explore El Valle, El Morro's location is the best. It is built on the rocks overlooking the beautiful El Almejal beach. Big rooms with comfortable beds, big bathrooms with warm water, breakfast veranda, sunbathing platforms, the top terrace overlooking the paradise, hammocks here and there... The whole place is always very clean and decorated beautifuly with an artisan touch. The owners Monica and Jupi are definitely some of the very pleasant people we've ever met, definetely not money oriented but very caring the nature. We highly recommend this place to everyone and thank Monica and Jupi for their hospitality and the delicious courtesy seviche (marinated shrimps) dinner as well as upgrading us to the nicest room.
Cons: Nothing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Monica and Jupi were the most wonderful and welcoming hosts. Full of information about the area and local community, and able to provide assistance in every circumstance, be it arranging trips, or helping with flight operator issues! The breakfast was wonderful, and the location simple cannot be beaten - falling asleep with the sounds of the pacific and the night washing over you.
Cons: There are some beers/drinks available to buy, but these are sold at a mystifyingly inflated price - almost 2x the cost in restaurants, and 3x the cost from a store. Definitely not important, and a good incentive to get out, see the town, and meet the locals. Perhaps we should drink less beer!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best view near Bahia solano. We had the place to ourselves, Along with the hosts. They can arrange whale sightseeing or whatever else you want. Neat place to stay! Saw whales from the property!
Cons: It is a walk from town so pack snacks!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoy our stay in El Morro. Everything was perfect; view, location, comfort, breakfast. Monika was very helpful, assisiting us with some transport problems. It is a perfect place if you want to relax. I guess the best place to stay in El Valle.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Doris who owns this lovely hostel and her lovely help Yuci (pronounced Juicy).could not do enough for you. Always making little treats like fruit platters, rice pudding etc. Plus the meals were absolutely delicious.
Cons: Nothing not to like
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Paraiso Escondido is definitely the perfect name for this place: A remote place with a wonderful - almost private - beach right in front of the hostel. The perfect place to spend relaxing days abroad. Yussi is a very lovely person and cooked amazing food, we almost couldn‘t leave this beautiful place!
7.5 Good
Pros: It was right on the beach and the view was exceptional.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Yusi, the hostess, is amazing! Live like a local, eat wonderful local foods, and just be present.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: we had an excellent time there. it was so nice and we could rent the kayak and go on our own by the river and the manglares. it was perfect and a real nature escape. also the botanic garden is close and we went for a jungle trek with a local guide antonio, which was very nice too. doña doris is a excellent host and made us feel at home. also the food and drinks were perfect. we highly recommend to stay at this hidden paradise!!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The two ladies, Doris and Yussi, really look after their guests bringing fresh fruit juices, snacks, lovely home-cooked food and checking to make sure that we were ok regularly. They were just wonderful. She even prepared delicious packed lunches for days out. Seeing the whales was an amazing experience - we saw so many and the boat captain made sure that we had a great time. The room was basic but had everything we needed. The mosquito nets worked a treat and we both slept well. Seeing the lightening across the sea was spectacular too!
Cons: Nothing :) It is very remote (nothing around) and very basic but that is part of its charm!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved our stay here. Set on a beautiful beach a 10 minute boat ride from the town, but feels completely isolated (in a good way). Doris and Yussi are really lovely women who make you feel completely at home and part of the family. The food is delicious and varied each day, and if you go on a day trip they make you a lovely packed lunch - and even helped to tend me when i was feeling rather pathetic after a dose of sun stroke! They organised a brilliant whale watching and waterfall trip, and also a really interesting jungle walk with an excellent guide - thanks Wilson! Would definately come back and recommend.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was one of the best holidays i ever had. A place completely lost, where you can enjoy 4km of beach just for you. Doris is incredible and will take care of your stomach all the time. I would rate my overall trip 20/10 but this score doesn't exist unfortunately. If you look for a real place to be out of the system, where you dont worry about food, never watch the time and obviously no internet either, this is the place to be! Relax take a swim, walk in the selva and watch the ballenas in August! Special thanks to doris who was really lovely and kind all the time. To be honest plane at least 3 or 4 days as everyrjing is so slow there you might get caught in the pacific vibes!
Cons: Nothing. Everything was perfect.
Mapara Lodge - Mutis - Beach
3
9.6 Excellent (28 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Bahia Solano, Mapara Lodge is within the region of Bahia Solano Beach and Almejal Beach. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and coffee/tea in a common area. A roundtrip airport shuttle is complimentary during limited hours.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our stay at Mapara was fantastic. The food was absolutely spectacular, the setting of the resort was breathtaking and all of the staff were so friendly and hospitable. There was a very friendly energy at Mapara and we had an incredible stay. The private beach for the resort is spectacular and so tranquil. I have recommended this place to everyone that I have spoken to since our stay!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We spend a magnificent week at Mapara. It was the last week of august, so that is kind of off season because holiday season in Europe and Colombia are over, and we were with max 6 people. The lodge is quite remote; Bahia Solano in Choco is not easily reached and the lodge is another 20-30 minutes by boat. It is situated on a deserted beach, the only “ neighbours” being the family who works at the lodge. It is silent, peaceful and beautifully located with a fantastic view. It only has 12 rooms, split over 6 cabins who are right at the beach. Considering the difficult logistics, our stay was very, very comfortable. The food is really amazing, the staff pleasant and friendly and the rooms simple but comfortable. No hot water, but right at the beach! We had the cabin, which had two rooms, with a nice veranda to ourselves. Once in a while you will have a power cut, but they do have a generator. If you want, you can have access to wifi and 3G up at the main common space. Of course we came to see the whales. And we did! We had two unforgettable mornings, with some spectacular sightings. You have to be kind of lucky though, with both the weather and the wales. But we were there for a week, so we were under less time pressure than some other people I suppose. Captain Jimmy is very thoughtful and careful when approaching or following the whales; never too close, always giving them space, respecting them and trying to disturb them as little as possible. That’s how it should be! Besides whales we saw dolphins, tuna and fly fish as well. The big groups of pelicans returning home every late afternoon is a spectacle in itself too. Thank you very much for an unforgettable stay and trip, Jose Fernando and team !
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great private beach with stunning views and delicious food
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location is unbelievable, charming beach just for us and another group of clients. We loved the activities, best contact with nature we have ever experienced. Drinking a glass of wine from the top of the lodge while enjoying the view of the bay was very relaxing. Mapara is beautiful.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Loved the Mapara experience.

Right next to them are Antonio senior and junior, who offer boat tours and guidance to the surrounding areas.
Cons: -
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Rich breakfast, friendly staff, great view from terrace, Clean common areas (eg terrace, bathrooms...) Great value for those who keep an eye on budget
Cons: My room could have been cleaner, shoe drop of zone would help to keep the sand away.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location, staff, service and value for money at Posada Ecoturistica are all Outstanding. It offers the perfect base to get to know the town, the beautiful beaches and feel comfortable.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was quiet, and the view was pretty. The location is great and allow to enjoy the little town.
Cons: I wish I had received a little bit more information about the tours showcased in the hostal, but I managed on my own, so it's ok.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Hotel is well located in the center of the village. Rooms are clean and spacious. There is a terrace with hamacas and beautiful view of the lagoon at the back. Owner is very helpful and friendly, and was helping us with all activities we wanted to do during our staying. Hotel offers very good breakfast. Hotel also offer delicious lunch and dinner at very reasonable price. We were very happy there!
Cons: Rooms are not sound proof as it is woden construction basically. So if you are light sleeper ask for rooms that are more toward to the terrace in the back. We stayed in family room no.1. If people sit in common area infront of the room and chat you will hear it clearly....
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were comfortable, clean and the posada is really quiet. Staff is helpful to organize excursions. The Posada is well situated in the center of El Valle and closed to the beach
9.2 Excellent
Pros: This is a very nice place in the center of the small El Valle village. The terrace is very nice. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They facilitate the organization of the excursion we wanted to do. The location is strategic if you want to visit the two beaches of the area and get a flavor of the village life. We split our stay between this place and another on the beach. Totally recommend you to stay there for a few days!

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great location, close to the ocean and the harbour, extremely helpful and friendly staff. The hotel offers free water, tea and coffee any time. Clean rooms with silent and efficient aircon. Nice and really refreshing pool.
Cons: Only cold water in the shower (but in this heat it is quite bearable). Very noisy as our room faced the street (but this more a problem with the town rather than the hotel). No breakfast included (but you can have cheap, tasty and lavish breakfast just next door.). Insufficient lighting in the room (you can't read in the room without some extra light). No wifi in the room.
6.3 Good
Pros: Better location than being in el Valle. Have wifi and swimming pool.
Cons: The lady who welcomed us disagreed with the price of booking, told us the AC of the room we booked didn't work and we had to book another room more expensive. And the room would be 25% more expensive. We had to wait for the manager the day after to discuss this problem. The lady told us misleading information for the sightseeing (turtles), which cost twice the price at the end.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable beds and perfectly working air-con (what is necessary in that climate). The pool in the garden was not necessary for us when we made a reservation, but due to the weather conditions we used it every day. Nice and helpful staff. The restaurant recommended by the hotel was also great. They serve great fishes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean bedrooms, nice and quiet outdoors area.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Really nice guesthouse!! Perfect location to start some outdoor activities! Rodrigo and his wife are super friendly and always ready to help. The house is comfortable and has a special furniture. Travelled alone and stayed there for 8 nights. Felt very good at rodrigos house! Highly recommended!!
Cons: Nothing.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Posada del Mar has a great location in Bahia Solano. Rodgrigo and Estrella are both very helpful and answered any and all questions we had about Bahia Solano. The rooms are simple, but comfortable. The beds are not the most comfortable, but they get the job done. Surprisingly, there is wifi that works relatively well. We scheduled a whale watching trip with Rodrigo and were extremely happy with the trip. They also gave us information on a hike to the Virgin Mary lookout point and a waterfall. We were very happy with our stay.
Cons: The beds are not great and the walls are very thin, but I would not let that deter me from staying here again. It's probably the best price in Bahia Solano right now, so if you are a budget traveler, you are more than likely used to beds that aren't the most comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very relaxed place. Rodrígez organizes for you amazing tours for a great price. Pick-up from airport worked also well and he helped with all queations. Very welcoming place. It's great that they provide water ro prefill your bottle. A great initiative to reduce plastic!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: We enjoyed our stay at the Posado del Mar. Rodrigo had a lot of useful information for us and showed us the local flora and fauna on a jungle walk which we booked with him. He did his very best to find some frogs to show us. The room was nice and the mosquito nets well maintained.
7.9 Good
Pros: Very friendly hosts, we liked our stay hère. Nice location near the beach.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good location, quiet area. Walking path nearby to explore the area. Filtered WATER REFILL, free price (tips box). Whales tour organized by the owner, passionate about it.
Cons: No kitchen to cook for ourselves. The bed sheets could have been cleaner. Quite expensive - but good- coffee in the morning (2.000 COP)
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Rodrigo and his family are super warm and friendly people. Rodrigo speaks good english and can organise many tours for you as well as recommend places to eat. The place is kept super eco friendly and you can also spot hummingbirds in front of your door.
Cons: Because of the weather (super wett and humid) our mattresses was be a little bit damp (no fault of the owner).

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, food exactly! Staff amazing! Friendly and very professional

Overview Reviews
A stay at Hotel Balboa places you in the heart of Bahia Solano, walking distance from Bahia Solano Beach. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours).
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Two bedroom suite with nice balcony view of the pool. The restaurant did their best to accommodate our kids' food preferences.
Cons: The pool was under maintenance when we were there, which was one of the main reasons we chose to stay there. Our kids were unable to use it.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The only reasonable hotel to stay in! Looks good, rooms are spacious, and the pool is a great extra. (Do mind the shallow hidden wall at the end...)
Cons: A/C was dripping and leaking all over the place.
7.1 Good
Pros: The staff were friendly, the rooms are a good size and comfortable with air con, free coffee during the day in the lobby.
Cons: The restaurant attached to the hotel was overpriced.
7.9 Good
Pros: Best hotel to stay in the main town of Bahía Solano (Mutis). For tourism it'd be probably better to stay in one of the beaches, but for business travelling this is definitely the best option.
Cons: Bathroom cleanliness could be better (hairs in the walls and sink).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good location for access to the beach to meet our guide
Cons: No hot water
6.7 Good
Pros: Beautiful sprawling property located right in town, friendly reception staff. Also, they sent someone to the airport to collect me, even though I never requested the service. Of course I had to pay for it but I was very glad that they did this as there's no regular tuk tuk service in the area, English is not spoken at all and mostly importantly, there is no data signal in the area (which would be kind of useless anyway as the area isn't Google mapped).
Cons: Some hair still in the shower upon arrival and dusty headboard. The bedding did not look like it had been recently changed but might've been sitting there a while... No WIFI in rooms, only in reception areas No hot water, which i would expect in a hotel of this price range where air con is present TV did not work The restaurant which only served 2 dishes, morning, noon and night. The waittress did not speak English, which of course is understandable, but the attitude was not good. I must add as a caveat though, that all of this is not necessarily exclusive only to Hotel Balboa but to many of the more expensive hotels in Colombia, especially in the more remote regions like Bahia Solano. You get the feeling tourism is still quite new to the country and there is a definite lack of knowledge of global industry standards. However, for the town of Bahia Solano, I think this is the best available (if not the only place available)
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice pool, big rooms
Cons: The hotel claims to be the best hotel in town. Rooms should be equipped with a safe which did not work. In the middle of the night the lights directly above the bed had a loose connection, which caused blinking. Instead of offering me a new room immediately they asked me first of we could not cover it with a towel?! After I talked to the manager I got a discount but the service level there is rather low.
6.3 Good
Pros: probably the best option in Bahia Solano, though it's nothing special at all food in the evening & breakfast were ok
Cons: pool is far not as nice as on the pictures staff is doing their job, but don't seem to care very much if you like it or not
7.1 Good
Pros: Its a town without many paved roads, this is the most luxery you are gonna get!
Cons: Time has done its job

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff here were amazing , really kind and helpful. Gabriel helped us with all the tours and got the wifi sorted out for us asap, he was really accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed during our stay! Maryli and Yidis were also super helpful and made excellent hearty breakfasts , that kept us going most of the day and gave us extra helpings of pancakes! The lunches and dinners were great too and the fish was delicious! Thank you for everything! We can't wait to return :)
Cons: Wifi wasn't working when we arrived but they got it sorted soon enough!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This area is in the midst of a jungle coast. You get there by boat only. An great beach for swimming and a great spot fot whale watching and fishing. I give this "primitive" area high marks for cleanliness, friendliness and safety.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beach, mostly no wifi, no connection, fantastic terrace on the big tree before hause, amazing trip by boat , very polite people
Cons: On Sunday in the neiboroughs plays loudly music, if you can’t speak spain, it is not easy, but with fee words, you are able communicate if you want
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Just a reminder .... this is a "jungle" location serviced by small boats ... a great place to get away!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I loved the staff with Gabriel and Byron looking after guests like hosts. Location in the middle of Playa Huina is great
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I loved the remote location at the beach only accessible by boat. The stuff was super helpful even though my Spanish is very basic. They suggested trips around, prepared amazing fresh food.
Cons: The noisy music from cafe right next to the lodge was after few hours too much.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent remote location if you like that! Transfer from airport without extra charges and very well organized! Gabriel was a very nice host! Beds were comfortable and clean, bathroom even had warm water. We loved the hammocks to relax and the platform with the beach view. Most important to mention: the best food cooked by Jhoana!
Cons: Nothing! Everything was perfect for us! But if you go keep in mind that rooms and bathrooms are not completely closed and furnished on a very basic level which is very common in remote coastal areaa of Colombia. Be aware of the guy who lives by the house and introduces himself as a tour guide. He really does tours but doesn't seem very trustworthy. In the end, he kept owing us money he borrowed.
7.1 Good
Pros: Not the best place to stay. If you really want to see the westcoast it’s better to go to el Valle instead of Huina. Nobody speaks English. BUT, the owner is a good guy and the place is nice!
Mama Orbe Family Eco Farm - El Valle - Building
10
8.3 Excellent (50 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Mama Orbe Family Eco Farm in Bahia Solano, you'll be within the vicinity of Almejal Beach. Featured amenities include a business center, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours), and motorcycle parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: When you arrive at Mama Orbe's, you immediately feel like family. The meals are tasty and the canabañas, while simple, are clean and comfortable. You can enjoy a gigantic beach almost entirely for yourself and if you're lucky you might just watch some turtles hatch or a whale might pass by. You can also organise all sorts of activities from the hostel (including whale watching).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A place to come back to! Great location, very friendly and welcoming family. spectacular sunsets in the sea. Every day helping the little turtles to crawl to the sea, a great experience! The walk in the tropical forest was another extra plus.
Cons: This has nothing to do with the family, but there's a lot of junk (mainly plastic) on the beach. I did my small share in collecting some of it..... If you don't like sand in all your clothes and in your bed (because you're walking barefoot all the time) don't go here. It's really very basic. But if you don't mind, go for the great atmosphere!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We stayed here for 4 nights over Christmas. We arrived after a long walk down the beautiful beach and were warmly welcomed with a fresh coconut and a shot of aguardiente! Our room was delightful, basic but comfortable with a good mosquito net. The family are very kind and welcoming people who we enjoyed getting to know. Also they were very patient with our limited Spanish. Mamma Orbe is a great cook, using local foods, often from the farm. The beach is beautiful, we loved playing in the big waves. Lots of nature and birds to enjoy and the turtles is a great experience.
Cons: The only suggestion for improvement would be having a small broom in the room so that we could get rid of the sand which inevitably gets everywhere.
7.1 Good
Pros: The people was so nice and the food was delicious
Cons: Too far away from el Valle (Chocó) downtown
8.8 Excellent
Pros: If you’re going to bother to go to the Choco, you’re probably going for the remoteness, the wildlife and the off-the-besten track factor. Mama Orbe delivers on every front: 9km of beach virtually to yourself and a sweet, hospitable family you’re staying with. It’s the best -honestly, the only!- way to see the Choco. And baby turtles, if you’re lucky! Tours were awesome as well.
Cons: We loved everything. A yardstick: if you like camping and don’t mind trading a little comfort for closeness to nature, you will love this. If you’re not that kind of person, this is probably not for you.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. It was amazing, we saw the turtles laying eggs, we enjoyed the endless, remote beach and they even have boardgames!
Cons: The communication and explanations on "how to get there" could be better. The location can only be reached when the tide is low. We accidentally found out about the casa from "mama orbe" in town (El Valle) and the friendly mama organized a moto bike transport to the hostel for us which was perfect!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: You should know in advance that this isn’t a 5 star luxury resort. We had a perfect and relaxing time there and enjoyed it a lot. The family is so nice and it felt like home somehow. Seeing their work with the turtles and releasing them was incredible. Really want to go back.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Food was great and people very kind, a place to disconect from everything and be one with nature. We saw whales from the beach and from the boat.
Cons: Some facilities still in process of construction. Electricity is not always available.
7.1 Good
Pros: Turtles released into the ocean most evening during season
Cons: Food wasn’t great, but secluded far from supplies so that’s what you’re up against.
