Staff were very pleasant and helpful. They went out of their way to give us a meal when we arrived late in evening and kitchen was closed. Very convenient to bus stop for frequent free shuttle bus to town centre.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location was quiet and relaxing. Bar in the restaurant being closed in the evening.
Mix of modern and old style. Welcome and ambiance. My daughter made great use of the library of children's books, a lovely idea, they really kept her occupied so that we could have a break! We really enjoyed breakfast. Children's play are also a bonus. The swimming pool looks gorgeous in the picture, but is sadly neglected at the moment, as is the area surrounding it. I hope it is ready for the summer season, it would be worth checking this if you are hoping to swim.
Room was very spacious and we enjoyed the scenery from our patio. Staff was very nice and welcoming. Close to town. Free internet!
Quiet, clean, polite personnel Nothing
I loved the location, the room with a great view and huge balcony. The breakfast was exceptional. The wireless internet connection and the value for money a bonus.
Good location(close to the centre of Oberammergau - 5-minute walk); good facilities; good breakfast None of the staff went to the main entrance for the check-in (at 5 P.M.): instructions to find our key room and for breakfast were given by an entry phone.
Beautiful place in a valley between mountains. Nice staff. Excelent breakfast. Free wifi, free sauna. All perfect. We liked all.
No one was there to greet us. Drainage issue in shower. No one to take wake up call or answer bell when we had a question
nice design hotel , quiet setting, well-appointed rooms, friendly consistent staff, good free internet connection average food : poor breakfast , do not expect a gourmet experience
The location and view were excellent. The staff was pleasant. When we arrived, around 3:30 pm, the front desk was unmanned and the hotel locked. There was a number to call, but we had no phone. If we hadn't found a door which was accidentally left open, we would have had to wait outside in the snow for about 90 minutes. Fortunately, we were able to get in out of the weather, but still had to wait 90 minutes before another guest with a phone called for us. This was not how we wanted to start our vacation, especially after being awake for about 36 hours straight for the trip over from the USA.
The staff (one lady) was very nice. I liked my stay. It was only for one night but it was very cozy.
Very comfortable and cosy hotel to stay in that reflects the atmosphere of Ettal. There are some beautiful hiking trails nearby that overlook the monestary...a real highlight during our trip! We arrived early in Ettal (2pm) and found the front door locked and a note in German with a phone number to call. At first we were worried this might be some online booking nightmare but when we called the number the host said we were too early and to come back after 4pm. We walked around Ettal but had to leave our bags unattended at the side door of the hotel in the rain. The hotel could also use more staff as it seemed this host was all by herself. One last thing the Visa machine was not working so thankfully Ettal has an ATM.
The village of Ettal is lovely. The hotel was nice. We arrived at the hotel at 1pm as advised, and it was locked, with no staff present to let us in. Had to leave luggage at the back door. When we arrived back to the hotel, although it was now open, our luggage had not been brought in. Only one staff member seemed to run this hotel which was inadequate.
Quiet surroundings yet in town. Close to many tourist attractions. Pleasant staff and the buffet breakfast is very good.
Lovely owner and just a beautiful hotel - wonderful experience
The location and the hotel itself are absolutely charming. Just want you want when visiting that region. As an international traveler I was very annoyed that I could not pay with creditcard (cash only). I realize that it's common for smaller and family run hotels in the area not to accept credit cards. However if I am making an online booking using my credit card, I expect to be able to pay with it.
The view from the window was magnificent. The room and the bathroom facilities were very good. Breakfast was very fresh, a lot of it and, generally speaking, extraordinary. Our host was welcoming, very caring and nice.
The staff (Mr. and Mrs. Richter) were exceptionally friendly. Always ready with information and service with a smile.
the personal attention of Mrs Richter, the extended breakfast and the magnificant view
Owner - Paula- was very helpful and friendly. The room was comfortable and clean. Location was excellent- close to train station and town. I would definitely stay here again.
Nice room; nothing fancy, but certainly nothing to complain about. The woman who operates this B&B is incredibly friendly and personable. She provided a fabulous breakfast. That we didn't stay multiple nights ;-) Really, there are no complaints that I can think of.
Gaestehaus Richter met our needs perfectly. Our room was comfortable and clean, the breakfast offered a wonderful variety of healthy choices, and Mrs. Paula Richter looked after all our needs when we arrived tired and weary from our oversea flight. The location is ideal for the Passion Play currently happening in Oberammergau. We would definitely stay here again on a return visit.
Owner was extremely helpful. Breakfast buffet was wonderful- full of fresh ingredients and local produce. Location was within easy walk of important sights in Oberammergau. no
Wonderful people running a wonderful house that almost feels like you are visiting family, rather than staying in a strange room.
The warm welcome, the friendliness and helpfulness of the owner - she couldn't do enough for for her guests and - as others have said - the fantastic breakfast of course.
The staff was wonderful - very helpful and kind. The breakfast buffet, which was included with the stay, was delicious, plentiful, and included many locally produced foods.
This place is terrific!!! Mrs. Richter treats you like you are part of her family. The rooms were awesome, the breakfast she prepares is fabulous! I could move into the Richter Gaestehaus in a minute!
All the staff l meet during my 2 night stay were friendly and helpful. They greeted you wish a smile and spoke excellent English. Booking the accommodation on the internet was amazing easy and straight forward and the location of the Hotel for visitors to Oberammergau and the Passion Play could not be closer. Excellent, well done and thank you to all the Hotel staff for an ejoyable stay. The Hotel is a lovely family run business who actually care about the guests.
Convenience and location near the Passion Play Theater.
Being so far away from home, which is Canada, I felt like home. I loved the decoration of the room and it was very cozy and I slept well in the beddings provided. I was very impressed with Oberammergau and if I return, I would stay at Hotel Der Schilcherhof again.
The landlady was very helpful and friendly. The location was excellent and within 10 minutes walk from both the Oberammergau Bahnhof or the town centre.
Very friendly and clean. Stayed during Passion Play. We were able to check in early which was nice. They made dinner reservations for us at Hotel Wolf next door so we were able to go right in to dinner during play intermission. Without reservations it would have been almost impossible to find a place to eat. As it was we were able to sit down and enjoy a fabulous meal. Beautiful, quaint hotel and town!!! no
We were tremendously happy with our short stay at this hotel. The staff were all very friendly and as all the other reviews have stated, the restaraunt was amazing. With a child it is sometimes difficult to eat out in Germany due to the laid back meal which can often take a long time. This is the first restaraunt I have eaten at in Germany that I would consider to have very good flow from beginning to end and therefore the meal was not too long.
Great breakfast and dining experience
The professionalism of the the staff, making you feel welcome and went out of the way to provide excellent service.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant had some excellent food. Breakfast was very good. They dont have an elevator, but the staff helped with the big bags and carried them to the room. The hotel sits on the corner of the 2 busiest streets in this small town. Street facing rooms are extremely noisy, till late at night. They did move us to another room, once we saw what the situation was. The biggest problem is this: The farmers bring their cows down from the pasture to their barns on these 2 streets. The cows go to the bathroom on the streets as they are walking, and the cars drive through it and the streets are brown for several hundred feet in both directions. Now this is quaint, but the problem is flies. There were flies in the lobby, the restaurant, the outside garden and inside our room. I think travelers should be aware of this, especially in the warm months, when you have to have your windows open.
Our rooms were very comfortable with nice bathrooms and we really enjoyed the breakfast buffet in the morning.
Clean and modern. Nice breakfast.
Excellent value for money, good reasonable food , nice room great lighting over bed (not usual) and good bathroom. Would have liked more joined up thinking in colours - blue curtains and green and red bed linen
Fritz, the manager, was very friendly and helpful. Too far out from Garmisch.
The room was very clean and modern for Germany. Very limited parking but that is normal for Germany.
Location It is located on a very noisy main and side street and traffic goes at all hours.
location Actually I have an issue and I am trying to follow up with them without success. When I booked on booking.com, my credit card was charged for the full amount (I was not aware of this at the time). The hotel also charged us for the same amount when we left so we were double charged and although I have brought this to their attention, the money has not been returned yet.
Good location The bed was broken
The environment, staff, breakfast, and proximity to Italian Reasturant No internet access, TV without closed caption in English (audibily)
A comfortable bed after a very long drive.
Sauna, wellness. Curteousy of staff. Italian restaurant adjacent. View and proximity of skying grounds (Garmish). Democratic prices in comparison with Garmish-Partenkirchen. Management not always available during the daytime.
Nice, big apartment the sauna and whirlpool were unoperable - but the staff told us about it ahead of time.
Easy to find location. Nice village. Restaurant food good but see negative comments re restaurant. good views from our appartment if you ignore the roof of the adjoining petrol station. This place really needs a good overhaul. While it was fairly clean it was scruffy and a disappointment. We had 2 bed appartment which was very big but sparsely furnished - really just the basics. Bizarrely they were storing a radiator on the balcony! Had a nice meal in the restaurant but there was clearly a hygiene issue in the kitchen due to the number of fruit flies flying around. Breakfast poor by comparison to other hotels visited.
the friendly staff everythings was excellent
the appartment was very comfortable and the breakfast adequate.
Friendly staff, very large apartment rooms, wish we had more time to stay
Hotel staff attention and support. It was my second time, and the first stay was excellent, not this one. Room without view, dark, only window facing an stairs at the view of everybody I had to have it closed, no good internet connexion either. Expensive for what I got. Afte two days, I moved to another nearby hotel, cheaper, better view, bettert room, and with excellent internet connection.
Location in ythe middle of the town. Only breakefast served, no other meals
Very nice facilities
Wonderful hotel! Very clean and comfortable rooms. A cozy and charming atmosphere. Nice service and good breakfast selection (not included in price). No one in reception when I arrived, only a note with a phone number to call. For travelers without a mobile phone, this would have been a problem.
Very nice hotel in a great location in the Bavarian Alpes. Staff is friendly. Breakfast was also good Nothing to complain about
Very close to Schloss Linderhof.
Great staff, very friendly, exceptionally clean room and bathroom, decorated tastefully in a Bavarian Alpine style, comfortable, inviting, a home away from home!
Very friendly staff and nice rooms; very well managed.
The hotel was right in the center of Oberammergau. The room was great. At breakfast, most of the food was cold. Also the wireless that was supposed to be working in the rooms was not working at all.
A very clean, conveniently located and quiet room. Nicely appointed with all the necessary immenities. A very nice breakfast room and great breakfast. It was a very pleasant visit....one I will recommend to others.
Breakfast was yummy and fresh. The room had a great balcony for outside sitting and a nice view of the surrounding area. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Location was perfect to see the Passion Play. Thank you. Coffee available at breakfast was ok, but tasted a bit like instant coffee. Wi-fi was fast and slow, so mostly ok, but frustrating at times.
The staff were very obliging and friendly. The family were very professional in their approach. The food was excellent, usually four courses but light and delicious at a reasonable price. Spa was excellent, usually had the whole place to ourselves. New annexe very clean and bright. Smoking in the breakfast room, if non smokers were around a little off-putting.
Glad to find this treasure. Exceeded expectations. Will definitely use again.
The owners were friendly and always present. The food and service was excellent. The location was wonderful for our needs. Our room 21 was near the small bar. We heard the patrons until the bar closed at 22:00.
we loved the location, the pretty building, the family staff, breakfast was excellent. i would recommend this hotel for everyone. its a europe thing actually. i'm not crazy about smoking indoors. i think they should make guests smoke outside.
Convenience to town centre to attend the Passion Play, also has car parking. Based on other reviews I expected the staff/owners to be more welcoming and friendly.
Services Internet connection was not very stable
Friendly, helpful owner. Well-appointed room with balcony. Only a short walk from town centre. Expected our arrival one day later than booked - not a good start!
Value for money, friendly staff
Like most hotels in Oberammergau, this looks like something from a fairy tale. My room, in the seperate Haus 3, had access to a garden with a beautiful view of Mt. Kofel, the symbol of Oberammergau. Many other rooms have balcomies with mountain views. The hotel is on the edge of the village, a pleasant 5 minute walk from the centre. It's quiter & more rural than the village centre. Nice breakfast buffet.
Friendly family run hotel. Clean and comfortable
All the best Old bathroom equipment - mixer tap, for example.
The couple who owns this guest house is excellent--very welcoming and helpful. We needed to make plans to leave the next morning. They found a son to interpret for us and the next morning the owner wanted to drive us to the train station instead of us walking. Then he unloaded our luggage and asked questions for us to find out which track to go to since the ticket office was not open. The wife prepared breakfast early so we could eat before we left. Great service.
We wanted to eat breakfast before the normal 8am Sat timeframe and they were glad to accomodate us.
Very quiet. Very friendly, accomodating proprietors.
Nice and quiet. Friendly staff. Breakfast lovely. Comfortable bed. Mini bar
Friendly people in a cute little town. Nice view of the mountains from our balcony.
nice pleasant surroundings. friendly owner, good breakfast. room was adequate and clean. ideal for a 1 night stay.
Sauna/swimming pool assortment of breads at breakfast was limited
It was comfortable, very good value abd run by a delightful and efficient husband and wife team. An excellent breakfast is provided No
It was a decent place to stay. The hotel staff was very nice and willing to help with anything.
sauna and swimming pool are great The furniture in the holiday apartment was very old and/or very cheap. It was close to a parking place - too much noise.
The beautiful scenery. Using a key for locking/unlocking the room from the inside!. This is a safety issue. No one should ever have to use a key to get out of a room!
Swimming pool, sauna and the restaurant I was told, prior to making my reservation, that the hotel took the VAT forms (tax forms), at check out they did not (cost me an extra 45 euros). Makes hotel guest an unhappy camper.
The town was lovely and the Church was spectacular. The hotel was in the middle of reservations and the receptionist directed us to our rooms as if there was access through these as normal. There wasn't. and when we got back to reception, there was no-one there. We wandered around for about 10 minuets until we met some workmen and they took pity on us. It was a trek into the next county to get to our room. This hotel is more like a nunnery or monastery than a hotel. Unable to use the Spa as it was closed. The breakfaast was sparse in the morning.
hotel restaurant has very limited selection of meals ala card, breakfast was less than average
I stayed at the hotel last month, no issues using the VAT (19% tax savings form for the US Military). This time, the accountant wasn't there and the front desk staffed did not have a clue. Will have to drive to the local VAT office in Stuttgart and have them work the issue. As nice as the hotel was, and it was nice, made for a poor ending.
Location, food, comfortable spacious bedroom, tastefully decorated throughout, easy parking. No direct access from reception to restaurant. No English translation of hotel information in folder in bedroom.
The food was great and it was across the street from the Kloster Ettal - a monestary that brews some very fine beer.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.
Great "look" for a hotel. One of the few we actually took pictures of. Great "family" feel. They make you feel welcomed. Awesome food. We had dinner both nights. We decided to have dinner there on the 2nd night because of our experience during the 1st night. Church bells right next door, but what can you do..................
We liked being very close to the passion play and Garmisch. beautiful countryside with Cheese factory, monestary, etc near by.
pleasant and good food. Great location for people who wants a cheaper place to stay for the passion play. cash only. No internet access.
The owners are very nice, very helpful people. It is in a beautiful small town. The views are gorgeous. The train station is a 5 minute walk from the hotel with direct access to the main train station in Munich (1 hour) and in the other direction, Garmish-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald.
best available price for proximity to Oberammergau and the Passion Play
The Hotel was in a superb location and the views were very impressive. It was an extremely friendly enviroment and the staff was excellant in taking care of your needs. The food was very good, Breakfast was fine but the Dinners was lovely
The courtesy and professionalism of the staff and the delicious food.
Great breakfast, perfect location...a must stay and will do so again.
They are good hotel. My worst experience ever. I stayed in the room 205 and I was bit by bed bugs. Even now, almost one month after my stay I still have marks on my hands. http://www.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfacts/ef636.asp
Friendly & Helpful Staff. Spacious Room, Great food.
The staff were attentive and efficient, and the rooms were quiet and clean.
The charming welcome letter and fruit plate that was presented shortly after arrival. Immaculately clean room with great view, adjoining balcony, free, easy wi-fi access, friendly and eager-to-please staff, location, in house bar and restaurant, lovely dining and lobby rooms. Our room was recently remodeled and we had plenty of space to spread out -- desk area, several chairs, a small table, etc. We had a most enjoyable stay and thought it was a great value for the price. Meals were good but breakfast buffet was not as lavish or tasty as many others we enjoyed at several other hotels throughout Bavaria.
It was the only moderately priced hotel within an hour of Munich during Octoberfest that I could find .. we are grateful that your website made it available to us. But we were using it as the first hotel on our European leg and after travelling all night, it would have been good to know that this hotel is a 15 - 20 minute cab ride from the train station, and it's a tiny station in the middle of nowhere; cabs are not always available .... we were lucky, but others weren't. Distance from train station.
Staff was great and opportunity for the great Dinner Buffet was too good to pass up.
Loved the staff. It was super clean. Very accommodating to families. Beautiful setting. Very peaceful and quiet.
friendly staff Shower leaked onto the floor
Located close to village center with shops, restaurants and walking paths close by. Recently refurbished, traditional German breakfast. Nice shower room. Very warm room. Located on busy road,(we had a front room), noise all day and night. Far from main hotel,so you feel isolated, no interaction form main hotel, only saw breakfast/cleaning lady. No where to sit and relax outside of room. Uncomfortable pillows
The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. The hotel is right beside a lovely little river with a great view of the mountain, yet only a few blocks from the center of Oberammergau. I liked everything about the hotel.
Guest house was well located in the town. Breakfast was very nice with good quality choices.
This hotel was located right in the heart of Oberammergau and surrounded with lots of cafes and shops. While the building is several hundred years old, the interior has been updated beautifully and everything (bedding, carpet, furniture) is fresh and very clean. Our room had a lovely balcony overlooking the square. The bathroom was completely up-to-date and even included a receptacle wired for 120V with a US-style socket. Parking passes were provided by the hotel and we had no problem finding a spot right around the side of the building. All in all, this is just the right combination of cozy and historic with modern conveniences at a very reasonable price.
Location and friendly staff. N/A
Very good service, very good value for money, Rooms are nice and comfort but simple, 45 min drive to the ski site
Excellent location in town center, staff, and facilities. I had not stayed there since 1988 and it is still excellent.
Our 2nd stay here. Just as excellent as the first time! I would highly recommend for families with strollers as the have a lift.
A nice hotel in a charming place, near to the city center. Parking is on the street with a parking park of the hotel, free of charge.
Hotel staff extremely friendly, speaks good English, and very helpful throughout the stay. Hotel is centrally located in Oberammergau with easy walking access to many restaurants.
Huge room with balcony and tub. Probably the biggest room I've seen in Europe so far. Staff was excellent and very nice and lent me an outlet adapter when I asked where I might purchase one. Big great breakfast.
everything was great, warm, pleasant rooms, friendly staff, nice lokation the price we paid was more than the one we booked
Everything was perfect. Only the town of Ettal itself is not fantastic, but it is close to beautiful mountains and places.
The hotel was a great find. Terrific staff, large clean rooms, pool and activities to help you relax, and the resturants food was a highlight. Great selection on the menu and worth every penny. I would recommend this hotel to anyone in a heartbeat.
the staff was very efficient and it was very quiet. nothing
Great location, beautiful surroundings, excellent staff, the room was clean and modern. One staff member, a server in the restaurant and bar, was impatient. Otherwise, there were no bad points.
This was a darling gasthaus with great food and an English-speaking staff. The location was quiet but an easy walk to town. It's also close to Oberammergau and all the wood carving.
Edcellent standards in all areas, food particularly good.would go there again really good value
Spa area, beautiful scenery around, wonderful selection and quality of food. We didn't know how nice it was and stayed only one night.
Nice hotel located close to Ludwig's castles. There is a monestary within walking distance. Excellent ice cream at the hotel.
Breakfast was very tasty and enough, room service was kind and helpful. Breakfast/dinner room was a little cold from windows.
We drove to Zuqspitza... and the Castles in the area No, we were very happy with the hotel
Basic rooms, good breakfast, friendly staff.
The personnel was friendly, provided for a home atmosphere and was speaking Russian - very convenient. Besides, location is perfect - near the railway station, ski center and major supermarkets. It looks shabby and poorer in comparison to other Oberammergau hotels, or even 3-star hotels in Munich. It was rather cold in the rooms.
Booked two economy rooms (with extra bed) for family of 6, and was given a family suite with beds for 7. This suite had a private bathroom and kids slept in a separate room, for no extra charge over the original booking of two economy rooms. Windows did not have blinds, so the street light kept the room pretty well lit. The cold water handle on faucet would come off in your hand.
This hotel is located next to the Bahn, Bus, Ski Shop, Gas Station, Oberamergau Ski Hill, and within a 5 minute walk to the center of town. A 30 minute bus ride took us to Garmisch-Patenkirchen. Perfect! The Hotel Hostesses were absolutely terrific and so accomodating -we loved it.
Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful.
Very friendly staff, family owned nd you are very well taken care of. Very old gasthouse, but it adds to the scenery
Excellent experience. The hotel staff were lovely.
It's a family run hotel and I haven't seen that German hospitality anywhere in Germany. Those are some really nice couple!!! Nice antique hotel decor. Nice mountain view from the balcony. Only 5 minutes drive to Garmisch. It's a plus to have wireless internet also.My husband and I love to stay in this hotel over and over again.
The room was large and comfortable with a nice balcony. There was a genuine Ausrian bat/restaurant less than 100m from the front door and ade1quate parking. The hosts spoke adequate english and were very friendly. Breakfast was delicious.
Small family-run hotel, very friendly and interested in guests' well-being. Nice view from the balcony.
The family Struger were so nice and helpful! they gave us good restaurant recommendations, they were always pleasant and made our stay there enjoyable! the view from our balcony was amazing!
The hotel staff were great. The restaurant in the hotel served a perfect bavarian dinner and we enjoyed the conversation, the staff spoke good English, the included breakfast was exactly what you would expect in Germany. We dropped off the a VAT form the day before we checked out and it was ready upon checkout. GREAT service. The upgraded our TV to a LCD during our stay. The room we stayed in was a little cold even with the heater turned all the way up and we did get a little noise from the traffic on the major street below.
Good breakfest, clean bathroom. Be aware that smoking allowed everywhere in this hotel and you need to cross everytime reception (small room) with owners and they friends and they was smoke near all the time. We've been with small children,so our impression was unpleasant.
Friendly welcome. Excellent breakfast. Balcony and view
this is a nice tipical bavarian small hotel, good food. Good atmosphere.
Staff, and especially "Gastfrau" is very friendly and always available. Nice quiet location, yet close enough to busy Garmisch.Dogs are very welcomed. Rooms are pretty basic, as usual in Europe. Many staff members smoke, so there's a constant smell of smoke. It elevates up to the floors through the hallways, so whenever you exit your room or leave the door open for a few minutes, one can smell it. Very disturbing. Also: breakfast meat wasn't always fresh; had been out for a a while.
The hotel is clean, quiet and comfortable. The service is great. The owner of the hotel is so nice to provide us what we need, and you feel that you are just at home. The small town is also very nice. I saw the most beautiful sky and stars in my life!
Staff very good and helped a lot when Munich airport closed due to volcanic ash from Iceland. Nice restaurant and beer garden.
Love this hotel- we will be back. Very clean and very friendly.
Very close to the NATO School in O'Gau. Friendly staff. The one thing I didn't like was that the two restaurants in the Arnika were both closed for the period of my stay. Normally I avoid hotel restaurants, but I'll make an exception for the schnitzels in the Arnika. According to the notice, the restaurants should re-open today, but that's a bit late.
The best hotel in my opinion for the NATO school students. Only 10 minutes walk from the NATO school and not far from the town center. Friendly personnel, very clean room, excellent breakfast and dinner.
We found it very homely and you all made us feel very welcome Well done... many thanks to the chief for a wonderful Christmas dinner
Free access for internet connection and wireless available.
Friendly staff, family atmosphere, clean and comfortable rooms.
the typical bavarian style and the view from my room
The hotel is charming, the restaurant is very good, the rooms are comfortable, and quiet.
very nice and quiet hotel, nice place, free Wifi second door between hall and bedroom in hotel room and too noisy construction of floors, made of wood
