Pleasant, medieval ambiance in the main hotel, but modern, comfortable rooms.
food was excellent
The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The room was very clean.
Rooms were big and clean. Pillows particularly comfortable. I suffer from neck problems but had none next morning. Where do you buy them? Bar and pub were a bit of a disappointment and not the historic building I was expecting. Also, bar food only available until 9pm and restaurant shut.
Value for money. Good food Hotel is "tired" - rooms need refurbishment. Restaurant staff need training!
Helpful, friendly staff. Good food.
I really liked the place, a quite, out of polution town. everything was ok
separation of bar and restaurant from the bedrooms
functional shower didn't work properly
The Bathroom could have been cleaner.
surroundings very pretty our room was in basement so very dark and no view which was a shame as the grounds were lovely. Also and even more annoying was the fact that the fire alarm went off at 6am - no one followed this up with action- my husband had to go to reception and check if we were to be burned alive or not! We complained again on check out to be told someone was probably smoking in their room but no money knocked off our bill sadly.
The hotel served the purposes of our visit as it was so close to the Rivers Hospital. The inspection of the room had failed to identify that the bathroom door would not shut and its handle had only one screw to hold it in place rather than four.
Swimming pool was fantastic and gym facilities seemed very good too. Spa treatments available - very good. Room clean and spacious, simple, modern decor. Breakfast didn't feel very special: area screened off from reception; chipped plate; staff quite noisy replacing cutlery etc.
The service in the restaurant was absolutely great. Food quite good. There was a wedding on so we had to use reception area as a bar/meeting place. It was freezing as front doors kept opening and not a comfortable place to sit. The bar the wedding party were using was perfect for us but we could not use it. It had lovely views too.
well located in the countryside within an easy drive of Harlow or Bishops Stortford and the M11/M25. Pleasant staff who were friendly and helpful. The first night we were in a basement room which was musty and smelled damp. On request (and no arguments) we were immediately moved to another room which was very good.
The Bar area is not welcoming
superb surroundings and facilities No internet available and staff not concerned to rectify, which as a business traveller was very inconvenient
Peaceful and the leisure club facilities were good Reception slow, room a bit dingy and meals brought to room were lukewarm (why not put a cover over the food??). Also part missing from a meal.
The comfortable bedroom. The food. Worn seating in the foyer and the cold wind that blows in every time the doors open. Could a lobby be constructed? No discount for wedding reception guests.
A lovely hotel, Lovely location and setting.! Was there for a wedding on 14th July, The bar man in the reception bar was called Luke, he was on the night shift, He was Excellent..!
easy for airport long black head hair in bath
Spacious room and comfortable bed. Walking distance from the airport.
The location, a short walk from the airport terminal. Very convenient. The room, the quiet. The staff was very helpful. The swimming pool closing at 07.30 PM. also, the hotel was a bit pricey.
I had only one night at the Radisson Blu but it was great. Dinner at the Italian restaurant was memorable - unusual, creative dishes. My room was, for me, very spacious and luxurious. The breakfast buffet was outstanding and had a wonderful assortment including fresh fruit salad, which is a rarity indeed. I had time to use the heated swimming pool.and enjoyed it very much. Then a quick but tasty lunch in the bar before departure. All the staff were excellent - friendly and helpful. I especially appreciated a late check out as well as a concierge facility that allowed me to leave a large suitcase both at no additional charge. I didn't mind paying for the excellent facilities and service. Well worth it.
Easy access to the airport... Price.
Friendly staff, clean room, just next to terminal building (2 min walk), quick check-in and check-out.
Proximity to airport was very useful and check out as well as car collection service were both good The carpet in room and corridor were not as clean as they could have been. Check-in was very slow!
the location as it serves the airport very well. The rooms are comfortable and the staff very helpful. The cost of drinks and meals. I with many others leave the hotel and eat and socialise in the airport. If the food and drink bill was less then people would be more likely to stay and eat on the premises. I even know people who avoid the hotel because of the cost
The hotel is new and very clean and has all the necessary facilities for a pleasant stay. There was no family room and so I had to take two rooms with a connecting door for a family of four.
The room was great. Mattress was super comfortable. Location was also great as we were staying because of a layover. Breakfast buffet was also the best I have ever had. Food prices at restaurant were a little pricey for what was offered. Room smelled a little of smoke. Suggestion: perhaps offer complimentary water bottles in rooms?
The hotel's position close to the airport terminal. The comfortable room. One of the eating places ('Paella' or the like) was advertised in the room and in the lifts, but was closed "for the season".
Reasonably sized room. Comfortable bed. Clean with one noteable exception. Airport accessible via covered walkway - 2 or 3 minutes at most. Broken glass on bathroom floor. Food and drinks a little pricey. Compulsory service charge for waiter service in main bar area.
The hotel is very near to Stansted airport. There is a hotel shuttle at the airport. After 13 hours of long flight and reached UK at 8pm, it is very convenient to stay at the nearest hotel as it is only 5 minutes from the airport with comfortable and clean room.
It was convenient The check-in clerk was surly and offhand, and was ignorant. She also vaguely pointed in the wrong direction for the elevator/lift. A later desk clerk who entered my Priority Club number was very helpful.
everything I would like somebody to speak other languages. spanish for exemple
bar staff - really caring and giving a chocolate bar to our baby girl whihc was a nice gesture the food served in thehotel restaurant - the dinner - the food was cold and a siz e of portion misearble
nice facilities, room on good condition, staff are very helpful there should be wireless connection available inside the room, so that we dont't have to come down at the lobby for longer period (very cold)
Bed comfortable Room far too warm when i arrived and in order to cool down the airconditioning had to be left on all night and it was noisy therefore could not sleep.
Surprised that they did not offer early morning breakfast pack in the room especailly as they are at an airport. Cheaper hotels do. Also what happened to the travel bag hooks at reception?
Pretty good value for the price, the hotel is very clean and quiet, the location for connecting flights is perfect, the transfer to the airport is well-organized. The price for the transfer was quite high
The room was great, very confortable and tidy. Breakfast could've had more variety.
relative close location to STN n.a.
Some areas still need a coat of paint.
The leisure facilities were clean and well equipped The rooms were dated and shabby and smelled of stale smoke
Clean, comfortable and staff friendly. I used room service - nice meal average price for meal served on time. Nothing major - I would say some of the decor in the public areas need updating but that is simply an observation and would not put me off staying there again.
location very shabby, poor bar facilities but most importantly no wireless internet- had apparently been broken for a few days and they had no suggestions of alternative places to get wifi access- very poor staff response and this is critical to my work
Pleasant staff No restaurant avilable Friday,Saturday evening
convenient, good shower the mattress was awful, worn out and guaranteed to give you backache. The contrast between the smart lobby and the gloomy shabbiness through the doors to the room corridors was laughable.
The pool was wonderful, gym had everything you could wish for and sauna and steam room an added bonus!Room decor smart. Ghastly white shiny chair that didn't want to move without lots of effort. Fine in an office but unsuitable for a hotel room I feel.
Ample parking space, friendly staff Corridors leading to rooms were dark and carpet was dirty. Room were dirty and mould spotted on bathtub. Would not have used the bath. Shower curtain was dirty. Not up to three star standard. Premier Inn would be a better choice.
Cant think of any The room had a terrible smell of damp.room 150,the carpets were dirty in the room and all the corridors, staff were scarce, pillows were scarce and had to ask for more, very poor quality hotel for the price.
Quiet, very convenient for the motorway, good facilities.
Express check in was easy. Room was very clean, loved the extra pillows and helpful sleeping tips. Perfect for short stay. Also loved the shampoo installed in bathroom so I didn't have to unpack my stuff! Bathroom was a little like a hospital but that's also to say it was very clean, not really a problem. Also dialed down to reception and didn't get an answer, at 1am, but note says 24 hour reception.
relaxing, comfortable poor quality TV picture
only my room, a good shower in the morning the food, the lack of communication between security staff and hotel staff, the restaurant closing ay 6pm on a sunday.
The helpful & friendly staff were always cheerful and made me feel very welcome during my stay. I minor thing really was the TV in the room picture quality varied through the day.
Very nice and clean Fence infrount of the window so I could not see the river .the fence served no perpose and could be removed
Hotel room were close to ballroom, but not to close to be affected by the activities. n/a
my staff were extremly welcoming and accomodating my room was not cleaned or refreshed with tea etc on one day
good accomadation, convient for station into london Resturant environment could be more cosy rather than cafeteria like.
nice and relaxing, good location and great value. reception staff were very helpful as we were not familiar with the area.
That we saw little of the unfriendly staff and securitystaff Room dusty, bulb in lamp faulty, room small for pricing. Decor and furnishing poorPremier lodge cheeper and twice the standard. No reception collected keyand no information from bar !! could have ruined our romantic experience, was not good.
The block of rooms I stayed in was quiet enough and self-contained. Good shower. The pillows could have been better and a soft seat is needed for the desk rather than hard wooden one.
We liked the history of the hotel and the extreme confort of the hotel, it was a wonderful break feeling like we were in our own bubble for the weekend. We thought the wedding exhibition on in the morning made things a little hectic and the wedding guests in the restuarant also detracted from our relaxed morning.
The bed in the room was of a very high class. It enabled us to sleep soundly for a refreshing start to the following day. Downs Hall is a period hotel with some astounding features. Visitors still require modern bathroom/shower facilities in their rooms. Downs Hall was lacking in this department.
Good location for Stansted and still quiet at night.
Very nice hotel for some one stay overnight in Stansted Airport area and want to have a sniff of the English Landlord era.A walk through the hotel and garden is already relaxing before having a drink in the comfortable bar. Helpfull staff . Taxi from Stansted 21 gbp
Very professional, courteous staff, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent. The room was clean and comfortable, room service was very good. Wonderful location. There was no lift to our room - but on a positive note the staff were happy to carry our bags up and down the stairs.
The very relaxed atmosphere and the good service Bar prices are over priced even by central London standards where I live
Too far away from anything
The staff is very friendly, the food and accomodation is excellent and the surroundings are beautiful.
Grounds and building are beautiful, very peaceful. The perfect weekend retreat. Some of the furnishings looked a little worn
Comfortable room and dinner was good There is no lift to the 2nd floor (or certainly not that I was told about or directed to); the stair carpet between floors 1 and 2 is v worn; it was rather warm/stuffy in corridors; there is no quick route to car park, guests must walk out of the front and round the Hall to the back for the car park.
The courteous, efficient, competent staff-- "service- oriented," how refreshing!! Very professional staff. Not a thing! Look forward to my next visit. Best place to stay for London Stansted!
Checked in 2a.m. left 6a.m Very disappointed to get a room with two twin beds. To late in the night to argue. Price for the room was very hig versus accomidation.
no Sky Sports in room, infrequent transfers
We only stayed for one night. Left early in the morning! The bed was ok!
Near the Airport Had to pay for the shuttle bus to and from the airport, should be free service. Rooms not as nice as other Hilton hotels.
Very friendly staff. Comfortable and clean room. Good price. Convenient for Stansted Airport.
The staff was amazing! Very accomidating to our every need!
Rooms - too small Breakfast - too expensive for the quality
The gym, the bar
very comfortable bed
Good bed and linnen was probably the best feature of the hotel. The hotel is in need of deep renovation. Especially the bathroom was in a bad condition and only 2 star.
Quirky ! Extremely well done! Lack of Digital TV (Free View) and Wireless broadband
Very warm welcome from Melvin, fantastic design in the rooms ans the kitchen. If you go in the vicinity, don't miss it! Be aware the Stansted airport is nearby. If you're looking for the perfect silence, it might be a problem
Melvyn greeted me and spent time showing me around - it is fantastic!. We loved the 'diner' based on Ace Cafe - loved the details, great that we could help ourselves to breakfast - loved the flexibility - the fact we could bring our own food and cook. We loved looking around the cars. We will be back to try out another room and hire a car for the day. It was perfect! There is nothing we didn't like about our stay - we had the place to ourselves (which was perfect) but wondered how it might have worked out if it had been full.
Splendid! Splendid! Splendid! This is the most fascinating place to stay at! If you love beautiful surroundings, comfort, extraordinary attention to detail in everything and fabulous cars then this is the place for you! Would my husband and I stay here again? Like a shot we would! Thank you Pit-Stop! Absolutely no complaints!
Very quirky hotel, loved the kitchen/diner, my husband and 11 year old grandson loved the sportscars, None
The generous size of the room. The theme/decor was fantastic. The justly proud, friendly and casual yet reassuring style of the management was welcoming. The self help, excellent choice and well presented food/style for breakfast was above expectations. The diner, (as well as our room), is stunning.
We liked everything at the Pit Stop. Good, off street parking. Very good hosts. Excellent accommodation and very good Breakfast food. The Pit Stop deserves to be included in anyone's holiday itinerary. It is more than a B&B and it is of a very high standard. The American DIner is wonderful and don't let the self service breakfast put you off from staying here Melvyn and Sindy have everything you need in their diner to feed hungry guests. Not only do you get to stay in luxury accommodation for a reasonable cost you also get to look around the beautiful cars stored there. The Pit Stop B&B is near enough London and next to Standsted Airport. Car enthusiasts should make sure to stay here and even if you do not have a passion for cars, like my w
The attention to detail was impeccable. A lot of thought had gone into providing the "little things" that make a big difference.
very comfortable, owners friendly and helpful. Family of 5 able to fit in one room which is very rare. Excellent idea for self service buffet breakfast especially when you have early flight. No except hard to find in the dark.
Very comfortable, wonderful landlady, will certainly use again.
The staff were very welcoming. very clean and beautiful scenery. Felt very relaxed.
Friendly welcome and the rich serve-your-self breakfast
Cleanliness and location Cold water supply seemed to be supplied by outdoor tank, the temprature being subject to whatever the weather at the time, as it was 30c the nice cool shower I was looking forward to after a very hot day was a little disapointing.
Charming, extremely well-kept hotel. Excellent English breakfast, with other choices also. Very fresh fruit salad. The kind and helpful owners use fair trade food sources whenever possible and also organic (bio) foods. Good choice for Stansted Airport stopover. No.
Friendly welcome, including a pot of tea! Spotless accomodation, with thoughtfully decorated rooms. Delicious breakfast...just wish I could have tasted more of those home made jams and marmalades!! Would stay again!
Friendly and helpful owners, warm welcome with some very nice touches (including chocolate biscuits!) The guests lounge was clean and pleasant , but lacked a focus(i.e Tv ,real fire etc). Room rate seemed a little high for a guest house ,,,,albeit a top quality guest house.
Very friendly and comfortable. Home from Home. Excellent location in a typical English village with good pubs and restaurants very close to Stansted airport and the M11 - but very quiet
A delightful visit hosted by a wonderful couple with an opportunity to explore a small village north of london near Stansted Airport. easy train ride to Estate at Audley End & Cambridge.
Quiet, quaint village for being so close to Stansted airport. Wide range of eating and drinking establishments and shops all within walking distance of this homely and lovely hotel, wish we could have stayed longer than overnight.
loved the oldness of it all and inc village and friendliness of hosts no
warm welcome and friendliness of owners. v comfortable lounge and good selection of magazines. Excellent breakfast with range of homemade jams and marmalades. no
Very nice and clean room. Easy to find a place to eat. Located nearby Stansted Airport. No
very english style
Cleanliness of the room
The room was perfect for my overnight stay and early morning flight. The foodcourt next door was very very handy. The bus service was fab and the bus driver was lovely.
Good speedy check in, room small but clean and tidy, plenty of tv channels, a good tea and coffee tray provided, close to the airport its quite noisy with lorries etcI am not a fan of eating at the services!
Everything from start to finish was excellent No bad points room was great clean and beyond our expectations thanks very much for the great service you provided us
The proximity to Stansted Airport - perfect for my frequent trips between Europe and the UK
Excellent value for money. Very very quiet. Friendly staff.
Cleanliness and comfort, Staff attitude. None to speak of
Cleanliness, renovated rooms Far from public transport
close to the Airport (10min), free parking, cheap, clean & quiet but basic room, fast food & shops next to the hotel.
the bed was lumpy with springs coming through and uncomfertable
