Hidden away in the rainforest you really experience Belize. We were very well looked after by Kevin and Renee and even more so by their 4 dogs, several of whom slept outside our apartment. The home cooking was excellent. Swimming pool, local trails, wifi, dart board, chilled beers, sightings of snakes all added to the stay. Rooms were well stocked with linens and towels and air con really helped. We went on local guided walks to ruins and caves which are a must. Excellent location, facilities and hosts!

Its hot and humid in Belize and the jungle so be prepared - and make sure you have bug spray with you!

Kevin’s property could be a vacation all on its own. He’s got maya ruins and the most beautiful creek running through the property. His restaurant area has a pool that has a lovely jungle view. He offers cards and other games to keep you occupied once the sun goes down.

The dogs on the property are super friendly but they kept jumping on the rental I was slightly concerned they might scratch the paint.

The property is breathtakingly beautiful with 3 creeks running through it and a nice system of trails for exploring. The bird diversity is phenomenal. Keel-billed toucans are fairly common and sightings of the other two Belize toucans have been recorded there. The rooms and facilities are very nice as well.

The advertisement on Booking.com showed a full kitchen in our cabin. When we arrived we learned the kitchen was not operational. Guests should plan to eat at the restaurant, or find somewhere nearby to eat (not sure of any local restaurants.) Be sure to give advanced notice about your dinner plans to the owners, as there are limited staff and the owners need time to make arrangements with the onsite cook. The owner offered to let us use his kitchen, as we had our own food and planned to cook ourselves, but then tried to charge an extra fee. The fee was not mentioned when we were offered to use the kitchen, so I was caught off guard. The owner offered to start a charcoal fire for cooking and mentioned no fee, but later tried to charge me a fee. We had asked earlier that day to have dinner made for us that night, but since we didn't give enough notice they couldn't prepare us dinner, so we were either forced to eat our food cold, or pay an extra fee for kitchen use. No fees were mentioned beforehand. The owner did not charge the additional fees after I complained. There is only full electricity twice a day, the owners turn on a generator twice daily so guests can have a hot shower. If you want a hot shower at any other time you must ask the owners to turn on the generator. The hot water was disappointing also, it was either excruciatingly hot, or cold, no in between. There are dim, fluorescent lights available in the cabins at all times the generator is not on, which gives the cabins a gloomy feel in the evenings.

Really in the heart of Mayas, lovely location in the jungle, beautiful garden, very clean, comfi beds, nice and helpful staff. Nice food too. At night it cools down so we were not hot although it was August. No need for AC! Kevin was very friendly and helpful and he let us taste his delicious dark chocolate.

The room sizes of our originally booked room was wrong on booking.com (the “deluxe queen size room” was about only 14m2 and had only one outside looking window). We were happy we were offered to change it for a bigger one with many windows allowing a nice breeze to go through all night.
