The style of the guesthouse was a traditional Japanese style which is great for if you want a cultural visit to Japan. Also, they have a fire pit where they cook fish every night for the guests and everyone sits around for a chat. The staff were exceptionally friendly and I highly recommend here for your next stay in Kamakura!
Incredibly beautiful hostel with huge potential for a great experience. The futton beds are nice and comfortable. There's a nice feeling to the house design.
I arrived and was supposed to pay by credit card and they said I have to pay by cash. I showed them the booking info that's says they except credit card and they did not apologize for this inconvenience. This is an important point because the staff there does not treat you as a customer but as someone staying at the same place they happen to live. The customer service is unprofessional. I paid by cash and this was just the start of my problems. The wifi did not work the whole time I was there and I was paying a premium to stay at this place and the least they could do is provide wifi. Now they did spend a minute or so trying to fix it, but at no time did they apologize for this issue and they treated my repeated requests to fix it as a annoyance to their daily routine. Finally, as many people probably have, I booked this place specifically to enjoy the dinner that many comments said they have at night. I specifically asked about this dinner upon check in and I was told that they have no idea if they will have it or not. There was no info about what time they usually eat or how they could notify me if I'd like to participate. I went out and came back to find everyone eating this dinner around the stove and I was hugely disappointed because I had already eaten. The way the staff acts and treats you is as if you are simply a person staying over at the house they live and they could care less about your experience. Now I don't want you to think that these are bad people. They are nice staff, but they are young and inexperienced with hospitality. If you don't need wifi and you don't care about their dinner or really any sort of customer service, then I recommend this place for the beautiful design. I think if you can come here and just do nothing but sit and read then maybe you can have a great experience. But I do think there are better options in the area that create a better customer experience for this premium price.
The staff were fantastic. Jun was hospitable and serenaded us with his Japanese guitar.
Towels should be included in the price.
Staffs are really friendly, and willing to welcome you be part of them, to enjoy together. Also love the traditional Japanese building style, they preserve it well.
