Overview

Best Western Gustaf Froding Hotell and Konferens is a family run hotel a few miles outside Karlstad, offering spacious rooms, dining, meetings, and live entertainment. Some rooms take inspiration from Swedish authors Selma Lagerlof and Gustaf Froding, while two suites feature private hot tub. Guests can also enjoy a gym, saunas, a hot tub, and a heated outdoor pool in summer. The setting suits exploring the lakeside capital of Varmland. Karlstad sits where the Klaralven river meets Lake Vanern, Sweden's largest, and the lively Inner Harbor, the Varmlands Museum, and the luminous Lars Lerin watercolors at the Sandgrund gallery all lie within reach. Lake Vanern is close for boat trips and sunsets, with the green Mariebergsskogen park nearby. Settle in, especially in summer by the pool, and let Karlstad's easy lakeside spirit take over.

Pros (+) Location was good for our overnight stay. The breakfast offerings were excellent. Nice murals on the hall walls.
Cons (-) Hard to get in and out due to construction in front of hotel. Not their fault. First room we were assigned did not have privacy curtain, only sheers. They are in the process of replacing them and we asked for another room. We were given a balcony room at no extra charge. It was much nicer. The only negative was the big wad of chewing gum above the headboard. Ugh! We did not mention as staff had be...
