Hostess went out of her way to assist with daily planning & directions. Breakfast was a delightful array of Japanese foods. Room was comfortable and wonderfully clean.
Not a thing!
This Hotel is like no place we have ever stayed before. It has 5 rooms, 3 doubles and 2 singles. We stayed in a double and our experience was exceptional. It is in a quiet residential area but with easy access to some great restaurants. It is a short journey to the centre with an excellent bus service. This old kimono shop has been renovated to a very high standard and that is just the beginning. The hospitality here was incredible, the staff were fantastically helpful and the owner, Tome, was so passionate about ensuring you have a great stay and she was lovely. She helped with our dining choice every night of our stay (and booked for us) and gave us some great ideas for our daily itinerary and helped map it out. They have a little bar packed full of whisky and other delights at the back of the beautiful little traditional garden which we visited every night before going out for dinner. Don't hesitate in booking, you will not be disappointed, if we are fortunate to visit the area again, we will be back.
My son & I were extremely privileged to stay at Mugen for 5 nights. The accommodation and hospitality were exceptional in every respect. Our stay there was a highlight of our trip to Japan. The personal warmth, knowledge and helpfulness of Tome, Kazu, Meimei and other staff were exceptional and proved invaluable to our ability to tailor our visit to the sights and activities of Kyoto that suited our preferences. Attention to detail was astounding. The ryokan had a tangible spirit about it : retaining many elements of its origins as a small kimono factory but simultaneously incorporating these into an inspiring contemporary fusion of ancient and modern design elements and personal service. We cannot recommend Mugen highly enough. It is beyond superlatives!
Just about everything.
Very ex pat centric Ryoken.
Friendliest most helpful host that I have ever stayed with. One has to experience a Ryoken when visiting Japan. Ryoken Mugen is a great one to stay at.
Looks like it caters to mostly ex pats. No Onsen on site. However there is a nice public one very nearby. These comments are really grasping at straws as the stay was so nice.
With a stay at Ryokan Mugen in Kyoto (Central Kyoto), you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Kyoto Imperial Palace and Nijō Castle. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
