Riyad el Mezouar boasts a rich historical past. A seventeenth and eighteenth century palace, its name originates from the official function of the "Mezouar", the head of the Alaoui royal family to whom the Riyad belonged until 1945. Riyad el Mezouar was transformed in a boutique hotel in 2000 by the interior designer Michel Durand-Meyrier after a careful restoration which preserved its unique character.
