Hidden fees. Crazy expensive. Old and run down. Service staff generally bad. Drinking water undrinkable.

The Atlantis needs a make over. The facilities are dated and everything is so spread out it takes forever to get anywhere. The staff is friendly but on Bahamian time (no rush) so every meal is a 3 hour ordeal. The rooms & food are very expensive …. I’d rather stay in the US at a 5-star resort for the same price.

The stay started poorly with the first room not cleaned when checking in. After being asked to come back to the front desk, I was walked to another room. That wasn’t cleaned/ready yet. We returned to the front desk where I was left standing around for thirty minutes. I was then told a bellman would bring our things from the original room to the new room (which was the second one). For the two hour...

I understand it’s a nice resort so everything is going to be expensive but food was overly expensive. $15 for a large bottle of water at The Cove…that’s crazy.

Pros (+) Staff was very friendly and accommodating; location of the hotel was perfectly central to the water front, water park, restaurants, casino, etc.; lots of fun; food was decent but expensive as you could imagine. Island cocktail drinks we generously made; great place for families or couples
Cons (-) The hotel facilities, rooms, and some common areas of the Royal need to be updated and/or renovated. Places like the new Baha Mar can now compete because if this.

Pros (+) The staff are very helpful, kind, courteous. A senior couple, we needed a fridge for our meds and there was no extra charge. The breakfast buffet in Royal Towers near the Dig was superb...pricey, but Superb. Excellent maid service, early and efficient. The library is an excellent addition.
Cons (-) Water view was just rooftops of the Barbeque Restaurant, a wilted palm tree, and a stagnant pool of stingrays and tortoises...ocean is visible only in the distance by leaning over the balcony. Too many taxes and extra fees. No screens on patio doors. Loud bathroom fan that must be on whenever the light is on.

Pros (+) We went there because of our kids and stayed at a suite in the Royal Tower, the main building. The resort is very special and beautiful, especially the marine life you see everywhere and the fun water activities. The beach is also beautiful, with the exception of the open access local vendors have which quickly turns the 5 star experience into 3 stars or less. You get constantly approached by the ...
Cons (-) The service at this resort is very inconsistent and the staff are often unprofessional and unfriendly. Don't expect smiles or much eye contact, as staff will often talk to you while looking at their computers and phones. Complaints go unanswered. The value is also poor. Expect to pay a lot and the 15% gratuity is added to everything, even when you stand in the long self-serve lines to get little s...
