Pros. Fabulous staff who couldn't do enough for us. The concierge, Anna, and Chiara, who checked us in couldn't have been more helpful during our stay. The hotel was immaculate and the gardens, beautiful. We felt very much taken care of on a very personal level. Thanks so much much for such wonderful service. We will definitely return.
Cons. It's a little away from the city but the hotel shuttle bus runs an excellent service. And besides, if we were in town, the room sizes wouldn't be as decadent.
Cons. If this hotel was anywhere else but in Rome, you would consider it old and run down. The furniture in the guest rooms is ancient and the decore is very tacky. They are trying to go for some "original decore" look, but unless they want to tell me that Julius Caesar stayed there himself it's not working. The furniture in the guest rooms are not "antiques"; they are just old.... Sadly I'm not sure there's much better in Rome. The city seems to get away with never having to remodel, update, or provide any amenities under the disguise of being "authentic." Their "concierge" is useless. Other than showing you a map of the city and telling you how to get to the Vatican, they cannot/will not do anything to actually help you. They are really just untrained and glorified bellmen. Not what you would expect from a purported "luxury" hotel. Finally, they seem to think that using the pool is an optional amenity. There's a charge if you want to sit anywhere by the pool. Chairs and beds are not free. What mutil-star hotel charge to use their pool??? That's the stupidest thing. The result is that everyone is forced to sit in a circle around the edge of the pool or to lay down on the concrete.
