We never got the car but paid in advance. We demand a full refund. The rep was extremely rude. Never, NEVER rent a car here under ANY circumstances. I bought a new car 2 weeks ago and through some snafu at Allstate Insurance, the app didn’t show collision insurance. (on a $27K financed car) I immediately called Allstate and had them fix the snafu. The rude rep at addcar told me I needed it to show I’d had the insurance for 90 days. I ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR TWO WEEKS! We had no car for our vacation, (hello Uber) and we lost all the money we prepaid to Kayak.
This was hands down one of the most stressful, heartless experiences I’ve ever had with a car rental company. I rented a car from AddCar in Orlando, FL and clearly told the employee at pickup that we were driving to South Carolina to see my dying brother. He had every opportunity to tell us we were not allowed to leave the state of Florida. He said nothing. Everything seemed fine. The next day, after arriving in South Carolina and staying overnight at a hotel, they remotely kill-switched the car. The vehicle would not start, would not shift into neutral—completely disabled. We were stranded, panicked, and had no idea what was happening. When we called AddCar, they told us we “weren’t allowed” to take the car out of Florida and claimed it was written in bold letters in the middle of the contract. That is completely false. It was buried in fine print, and the so-called policy states that if you leave the state you must pay $1,900 PLUS $1 per mile. We were already about 450 miles away. After waiting, a manager finally called and demanded the $1,900. We explained we did not have that kind of money and reminded him that their employee NEVER mentioned this restriction—despite knowing exactly where we were going and why. He eventually “discounted” it and still forced us to pay $1,000 just to get the car turned back on. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, we were told we now had to drive the car back into Florida, return it as originally scheduled, and figure out our own way back to South Carolina. This cost us an entire day of driving—time that should have been spent with my dying brother. This company showed zero compassion, zero accountability, and uses predatory fine-print policies combined with remote kill switches to trap customers into paying outrageous fees. What they did was cruel, stressful, and completely unnecessary. If you value transparency, basic human decency, or not being stranded hundreds of miles from home—DO NOT RENT FROM ADDCAR. There are plenty of other rental companies in Orlando. Choose literally anyone else.
We were given the instructions to call shuttle driver once we got to pickup location at the airport, when we tried to call nobody answered. We called maybe 10 times among the people who were also standing and waiting on the shuttle. I ended up just taking an uber. Once at the car rental building they taxed on a bunch of extra fees that they do not disclose on the rental listings. The car I was given was extremely small and not like the “medium size” i was expecting to get. There was a bunch of staff all just standing around but only 2 people working the counter. The staff member I was with had headphones in and was talking in the phone the whole time. Overall not a great experience and definitely not worth the extra money we had to pay.
Hidden fees were astronomical and there was almost a flight in the lobby with the cashier when we showed up
Great customer service, computer system is outdated.
The car was dirty, had a cigarette burn on the seat, and they charged me a ton of hidden fees.
