Quinta da Veiga is amazing both internally and externally. The old mansion includes several large halls, connected in series as was customary at the time. Each hall is beautifully decorated and each piece is a masterpiece. The location of the house is as beautiful looking down to the Douro valley and to the vineyards on both sides of the river. We went for a short walk along the road from the Quinta to Quinta Nova and back - amazing scenery. There might be a way from the Quinta to the railway station nead the river - I could not verify that the path through the vineyard goes all the way down in the valley. The Quinta has a winery higher up on the hill, and the winery owner was very kind to take us on a tour and answer our questions, even though it was the middle of the busy season. Muito Obrigado! The Douro valley was one of the highlights of our stay in Portugal, in large part due to Quinta da Veiga.
The Quinta did not provide any information about activities in the area, and especially about walking trails in the vicinity. It's a pity. There was no one to ask and the owner was not seen during our stay. Come prepared. With such a remarkable house, it is difficult to maintain guest rooms at the same standard. The furniture in the room show its age. A minimal modern style of the rooms might have been a more practical solution.
Wonderful setting with amazing view of the river, lovely main rooms in the Quinta & great views from the balconies & dining room. The evening dinner was plentiful, good food & great value including much wine & port. The owners sons were there & gave us a tour of their winery the following morning which was lovely & Francisco who did almost everything from checking us in & out to serving drinks & dinner was an all round helpful cheerful & great chap. Breakfast was quite basic nothing hot but good continental selection.A very well kept property with lots of quirky artefacts from China where the owners lived.
The bedrooms need updating the beds were rock hard & very uncomfortable, if they had been better would have given them full marks
What a spectacular view! Do yourself a favor and partake of the nightly dinner. It’s a delicious, multi course meal with lots of good local wine - and no need to drive on those narrow Douro roads in the dark.
Only small gripes, like there not being a rubbish bin in the room (just small one in the bathroom), and having to ask for more toilet paper.
Great view, in a nice location. Wine was good. The pool was cleanly, and the front desk gentleman was very helpful.
Most expensive meal we ate in Portugal. Remote location so no options other options nearby.
The location and the view are absolutely amazing. The best I have ever had. Silence, peace, relax and then greatest view possible!
The costs of dinners were above average also considering that there was no alla carta options. In any case the food was very good
