Steve at the front desk was very kind. Great breakfast in the morning
I've stayed for a week so far in the process of a move and couldn't be any happier. The entire place is spotless and pristine. Everything at the daily breakfast has been fresh and tasty and they also always have coffee, herbal teas and lemon water available 24/7 in the lobby by the fitness center. The location is central to all OBX and even walking distance to some. Most importantly, every member of their staff from management to front desk, maintenance, housekeeping, has been above & beyond welcoming as well as incredibly informative on all things local. Would recommend to absolutely anyone from business travelers to families. N/A - all good.
Oceanfront view. Too expensive for the overall clenliness and state of the hotel.
Staff is very friendly, rooms are clean grounds are nice Room was on the 3rd floor with no elevators for luggage, only view from the room was the highway, Inn is NOT located anywhere near the ocean, you can't even see the ocea. Would have been nice to know these things ahead of time as we wouldn't have stayed here had we known that.
Staff admitted reservation mistake and did their best to make up. However, the group had to split up with a couple staying at a less desirable inn. Staff compensated us with no charge for our room since error was their fault. Had CONFIRMED reservation for TWO rooms for one night. Inn only reserved ONE room and had no other available rooms when we arrived.
The room was spacious and comfortable with extra amenities(microwave, small frig, extra counter space and small sink in room in addition to bathroom). A great value for what we paid. My only proviso is it is not a place for people who have trouble with stairs. No elevator that I saw. But part of the charm is staying in a historic hotel!! I will be staying there in the future if at all possible. Nothing!!!!
Location and staff were excellent. Beach access very good. AC/heating unit was next to bed and loud. Checked in a 5 and room not ready. First room we were offered had a dripping faucet.
We loved the first colony inn. It's was like stepping back in time. We will definitely come back.
Clean, comfortable No real breakfast. AC Unit was very noisy and vibrated, buzzed badly.
Perfect location, friendly staff, clean and spacious rooms, and the whole facility was just nice and up to date. The water in the shower never really got above what my fiancé and I would describe as "lukewarm", but that was so minor we forgot to tell the front desk. The only other suggestion would be an expanded television channel selection or at least a guide channel of some sort. Again, extremely minor.
Friendliness and helpfulness of staff
Location is great, hot tub and pool are real nice, staff is outstanding and the rooms are nice!
Location Cleanliness Comfort of bed
Staff were quick to fix problems Outdated hotel cost too much for off season
The hotel was close to everything we had planned for our trip, while we did not have time to enjoy all of their ammenities as our schedule was pretty tight. My only complaint was the poor condition of the mattresses. Both beds in our room had the most worn out mattress which provided for a terrible nights sleep. They need to be replaced months ago.
The staff was very welcoming! The rooms were very clean! And the bed was very comfortable! Couldn't open the window to be able to listen to the waves crash along the beach while I slept.
Ocean-front/ Beach Good location Jacuzzi/ Heating pool Free internet First and second floor are not ocean-view, there is small hill in front of the hotel
Easy access to oceanfront, nice pool and jacuzzi inside, clean, quiet, professional and courteous staff.
Very friendly staff. Hotel was clean and renovations (ongoing) are really nice.
We loved our spacious hotel room and playing with Sabrina every day. We liked everything.
I liked the ice machine with good proximity to the room. For the most part, the staff were nice. The balcony was a nice touch. Let's start with the bird that almost ate my girlfriend's finger. I have pictures. It isn't pretty. Apparently, this bird belongs to the owner (!) and, to be honest, it almost died that day. I almost killed the bird, despite being an active vegan and animal rights supporter. That is how enraged I was. The staff took two minutes to find a spray bottle to de-couple this bird from her hand. The bird, we can only guess, was mad at my girlfriend for allowing the bird to rest on her arm, but she wasn't actively petting the bird. After the incident, the staff snickered and thought it WAS FUNNY. When we asked for some hydrogen peroxide, they responded "we are out". They did provide us with alcohol wipes. This is unacceptable. One could go off about random yellow stains - topical, actual, mustard-like stains on the ceiling of the room, (also have pictures), or the staff scrubbing our appointment before we arrived (via Kayak, NOT Expedia), or the lack of HBO, but I'm gonna stay on the bird-thing. Absolutely not cool. Not only will I never go to any Ramada Inn again, but I am going to make sure everyone I know traveling through the OBX knows about their lobby-piece "Sabrina the biting bird". The fact that staff reacted as if it was "just another biting" and even upon checkout we got the "jeez, so sorry" in that "please go away" tone makes us feel like they get PLEASURE from watching people get injured from this bird. Yelp is my next stop. Take this place off your list of where to stay.
The easy access to the beach. Hotel was not clean and I found over priced which I understand the amount I paid for was basically bc it was on the beach. The common areas were very nice, however the rooms could use some updating. We had to move rooms our first night due to water leaking in the bathroom. We were on 2 nd floor and water leaking from ceiling in the bathroom was commode water from the above floors. Customer service was great. We were moved into another room and received a discount. However the second room we located to, the bathroom walls had hair on the walls which I knew was not ours being we hadn't even used the shower yet. The bathroom could use some updating and could be cleaner. For the price paid, sadly I won't be staying here again.
Clean rooms, great location right on the beach, friendly staff Would be nice to have a continental breakfast like the Comfort Inn next door. They have their own restaurant inside the hotel but it is a bit pricey for breakfast.
View of the pier and location we great. We booked last minute and were pleasantly surprised. This was the most economical option in town for a quick weekend stay. They had a very reasonable pet policy $25 for our dog to enjoy the beach with us. A little dated and but to be expected for price along the ocean and it didn't prevent us from being comfortable.
This was the only place we could find open after a Tropical Storm kept us from getting to our rental on Hatteras Island. We paid over $200 for a room and there was no electricity. The office staff left during the evening and locked the office. This is a $50/night establishment and that is generous. Every other motel in town was booked and there were maybe 5 cars there that night on Labor Day weekend. They should not have even been open with the power off. We stayed there because we had no choice. Please plan ahead and avoid this place.
Clos to the beach Parking
The customer service was wonderful. My room was an ocean view room...also wonderful.
Service desk, cleaning staff extremely friendly and attentive. Rooms were clean and hotel looked well maintained overall. Breakfast was good for continental and enough seating available. Convenient beach access. Will return. Beds were too soft and noisy. Flow of the room wasn't great, bathroom was very cramped and placed at a sharp left when entering the room.
Nice renovation Nice beachfront area Noisy air handler - could not shut off Light from street came into room Beds too soft, pillows too hard
We have stayed at Shutters before. We love that it's family oriented, convienant to the beach and attractions. It's become a family tradition every summer. We were not impressed with the breakfast selection or how small the area was that it was served in.
Great location and value. Able to get a good run during my stay. Clean room and good internet. Breakfast was only decent. Construction during our stay.
So close to the ocean! Just a short walk through the dunes The rooms were fairly small, but they were clean and nicely furnished.
Centrally located to everything in the Outer Banks. Walking distance to the Dairy Queen, too. Staff always friendly and helpful.
Great location and friendly atmosphere. Thanks
The location! Right on the beach, and in the middle of everything else in the OBX. Th fact that I booked with Kayak, and then found out when I got there that I could have actually gotten the room cheaper through the hotel! They would have given me the AAA discount, and the base price was the same as I found on Kayak!! So much for saving money with this search!!
Nothing. No one at front desk for 20 minutes and they didn't answer their phone. Room stunk like a wet dog. Front desk person named Mardi was unprofessional and gruff.
Nice staff. Strange elevator layout; moderate inconvenience but nothing terrible.
Great location. Breach view. Friendly Staff. Decent Breakfast. Many problems with the room. Tub drained poorly. TV didn't work. Went to a new room. AC unit broke. They couldn't fix it. Maid service was substandard. Limited ice machines.
We've stayed nearly everywhere on the beach (I grew up on the obx and we come often to visit family). This is one of the cleanest hotels on the beach, and certainly the friendliest staff. It's got its short comings like everywhere else, but it's over all, a great hotel for the (off season/shoulder) price.
The rooms were good but the staff was fantastic! They were the to help anyway they could and were always willing to go the extra step to make our stay great!
Couple flies in the room during stay
This hotel was exactly what I wanted it to be - reasonably priced and right on the beach. You know when you're booking a Comfort Inn that it's not going to be a luxury experience, but everything was well-kept and staff were very helpful and accommodating.
The location was perfect. Room was tiny and the mini fridge didn't really work. Had to pay for ice, only $1 a bag but it was a pain to have to buy ice because the fridge wouldn't keep anything cold enough.
Love that my pet was welcome :) and the pool. No
Close to where friends were staying, cleanliness of room
Location. Price for this type of motel on the beach. Housekeeping was helpful and provided items we needed. Bathroom, too small. Bed was too soft
Constant flies, comode wasn't attached to he floor, sink knob was broke, toilet paper holder was broke,n ot ocean front like they said
The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient to the beach, restaurants, and major roads. The room was relatively clean given the age of the motel. Very bare bones facilities. The place is in pretty bad shape. The comforters have not been replaced in at least a decade. No coffee maker in the room. The windows don't open.
Nothing I can think of that was good. Place was covered with mosquitoes & flies that kept getting in my room. Staff were extremely rude and ignorant and treated me like a convict when I complained about the conditions. I would never go there again & will tell everyone I know not to go there!
Location. Right at the beach! Office closes at 8pm. Cable TV didn't work, so as the AC, we couldn't find someone to fix it. Thankfully it wasn't hot and we didn't need TV. But staffs were very nice., and super fast Wifi.
This motel was literally right on the beach. It was amazing to wake up and walk a few steps, pop the chair out and enjoy the ocean. The owner was unbelievable friendly and gave us access to our room early.
Room was very small. Bathroom looks to have been neglected for many years
Loved the fact that our private beach was through a doorway at the end of the row of rooms! No. We found it to be very comfortable and enjoyed our stay very much. We will go back.
This hotel is located right in the middle of Nags Head in a nice location with ample parking I am a rather large man about 300 pounds the bathrooms in this hotel are nice and clean however they are very small the toilet area barely fit me in to sit on the commode
The staff was extremely accommodating and helpful. They were also very friendly. They upgraded our room, at no additional charge, because the festival that we were there to see was cancelled, due to bad weather, causing many rooms to be empty. The bathrooms need to be updated. The fixtures are so old, they don't look as clean as I would have liked. Also, the carpet was stained in our room.
Squeaky bed, noisy plumbing, no identification sign, non usable ice
Unit was clean, with two full baths; outside was not very nice, but for a one or two night stay, fine there was no seating other than the bed or kitchen table; a couple of side chairs would be nice in the unit
The staff were all super friendly, the location was great, and the view was amazing! The decor was cute, and the price was right. Well maintained. Plenty of outlets for plugging in chargers. I found wrappers and a dirty spoon behind the little night stand when I went to plug something in. The pillows were kinda gross, and none of them had protectors on them, so lord knows who else's drool was there (especially for the king pillow that didn't fit all the way in the standard case). The beds were super hard, and one frame sounded loose so that every time I move it went clang clang clang. Both beds had zippered bedbug protectors, which was great, but hide are meant to be used UNDER mattress pads, not AS mattress pads. Made the whole bed very uncomfortable. Nothing they could do about this, but the showers are SUPER tiny. The parking lot was a bit of a headache - cars parallel parked on both sides of a narrow lane (used for both directions even though only one car could fit through at a time) that led to the larger back lot. I didn't call any of this in, because my stay was so short none of it really impacted me too greatly. Minor and somewhat silly complaint, but the tv could only be viewed from one bed, and it was a little small. A channel list would have been very helpful to have as well.
The location was perfect: beach access across the street, restaurants and market within walking distance. Our toilet was broken and the front desk said maintenance wouldn't be in until the following day and so we had to look on YouTube to figure out how to fix it or at least remedy the situation temporarily. Once the maintenance man did arrive, he disappeared shortly after, never to return. Our YouTube fix had to be sufficient enough. Tough not having a working toilet in your room. Still made the best of it though and the room was great otherwise.
The room was clean and had a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. You could walk to the ocean through an archway. Which was very convenient. The bathroom was very small. It took several minutes for the hot water in the shower to warm up. It did not have room for a bathtub. There were small ants that were crawling around on the nightstand. I found some ants crawling on me at night.
staff was friendly, knowledgeable location was excellent no wifi
Closeness to the beach Small shower
location was right by jennettes' pier, perfect. the room is old 1950's but the desk help said they are renovating in october.
Breakfast was good and staff friendly Most disguistig hotel ever stayed in. Carpets filthy and vomit on door and walls in bathroom. May report to board of health.
Location was great. Right on the beach and super close to everything. The beach directly in front of the hotel was never crowded. The room was always damp and had this weird moldy smell. We ordered an ocean view room. We were placed in the new building with a view of a blue house directly above their pool. You can't see this house in the photo above (that's how incredibly close it is). When sitting on our balcony we were only about 20 feet away from them. It felt like we were just staring at them so we didn't even use the balcony. There was what appeared to be a rotting dead bird in the grass in front of our building the entire week. It was adequate at best, but I think next time I would definitely spend a little more to stay somewhere else.
.great old motel with great location and very clean nothing
Nothing It was the most disgusting "hotel" I've ever stayed at. Holes on the walls it smelled outdated overpriced.
Location. It's an oceanfront hotel. However not all the rooms are overlooking the beach. Has BBQ/picnic area. Outdoor pool. We booked a room with a queen bed & we were given a full size bed in a handicap accessible room. The bed itself was complete mush, we didn't sleep very well & our backs were killing us. The staff was rude & mostly barely English speaking foreigners. (What's the point of that!) The room was horribly dirty, we saw a roach & they wouldn't move us to another room. I could look past every other issue except roachs!!! The property overall is very un-kept and it's falling apart & the few coats of paint for appearances just aren't working anymore. Costumer service is very lacking. The full-time employees, aside from those who are there on some summer foregin exchange work visa program (who are useless) look miserable. Not a single smile on anyone's face. It's sad. Thankfully, the property is on the beach! If you choose to stay here you must upgrade/request a room directly on the beach. I was able to peek into one of those rooms during cleaning hours & wow those rooms are in much better condition! However, I only peeked in for a sec., beware of the awful beds & room dwelling roaches.
oceanfront check in staff was somewhere between unpleasant and hostile. she simply glared at me when I arrived at the desk. we arrived at noon and asked if there was a chance the room might be ready, and perhaps we could check in early - she said "no early check in, it costs $50 if you want to check in before 2pm" subsequent interactions w/ her were no better. this is basically a stripped down old motel. lower your expectations and you won't be disappointed.
Upon arrival the outdated look isn't bad, but then the young brunette chick with an accent gives you attitude, dirty looks and tells you she "isn't sure" when your room will be ready after it is PAST check-in....so already off to a bad start! Then they fail to call you when your room finally is ready—when they tell you to your face they will call you the moment your room is cleaned—and you're put in the WRONG room: a smoking, pet-friendly room; neither of which was mentioned on the website or requested and they wanted to try to charge EXTRA for those "special rooms"..... Allergy attack immediately upon entering the pet friendly/smoking room we hadn't reserved and major attitude to get the room we had reserved. More dirty looks from young brunette girl with accent. Also asked if I could find a restroom or changing room to change into a swimsuit so we could hang on the beach until our room was ready and young brunette with accent said "not possible" but I could "go to bar across street"....so towel change in parking lot then come to see a changing room and shower room. Almost everything besides the location
It was on the beach Room needs updating, It had a smell. Room was not cleaned. Had to call they desk brought fresh towels. Breakfast was limited, hard bagels.
Overall it was great for the money! I can't say enough about the helpful stage! They were great! For an older beachfront facility it was clean and ok shape. Unfortunately the weather was very cold and rainy while we were there so we couldn't enjoy as much of the facilities as we would like. I would go again!
Girl at front desk was friendly and helpful. (Checked in by JGARCI) Spent 1 night here with no problems at all. Happy they have wood floors and no carpet.nice looking rooms.
The ocean front balcony The hot water didn't work and the wi fi. Was worthless anywhere but the lobby. The pool was poorly upkept and for the price you really only paid for location because the hotel was at best a $60 a night place. However the staff was very nice and helpfully.
Location was excellent Their breakfast was poor and the beverage dispenser was out of order for juices at breakfast. The air conditioner was broken on the outside of the room and also was not working properly. The bathroom door was rotted and was very hard to close and open.
The proximity to the beach is nice, and the staff was fairly friendly. The hotel is fairly run down. There were extension cords running across the floor in the dining area. The toilet in my room was falling off the wall. The doors to the hotel rooms are very hard to open/close. The room looked nothing like what was pictured online. Plus, for the extra $40/night I paid for a pet fee, I could've actually gone and stayed in a nice hotel.
