From the friendly reception to the beatiful facilities, great food and we'll appointed room, this resort is excellent. The staff is very well trained. The dancers in the evening traditional Dominican dance show were excellent. I stayed in the VIP portion of the resort and it was a great atmosphere. Stinning architecture throughout. From the moment I checked in until when I checked out, I kept telling myself, I must come back again.
Service and food was excellent.

I liked that the pool had a bar n the beach was walking distance. They had shows every night. It was a fun night.
I didn't like that the authenticity of the national foods was very poor. But it was ok.
I was pretty pleased. I like the design and set up of everything. I liked the beach huts that protect you from the sun and the pool was very nice. Maybe it just wasn't very busy when we went (May 19 - 24) but I didn't think it was too crowded and could always find a chair by the pool or a hut on the beach. I found plenty of food to keep me satisfied. Restaurant food was really good. Be sure to take advantage of being able to eat at each one once a week. This was my first all inclusive - I found it to be well worth the money for my group of 3, sharing 1 room with 2 beds. They have a stone called Larimar, only found in the DR, which is beautiful shades of blue, the beach vendors have a lot of lovely larimar jewelry - I highly recommend getting a piece for yourself. Negotiate but remember the individuals selling stuff only get a cut of the profit and they most likely have families to feed. I bought from a few. If you are looking for jewelry, ask for Julio and tell him Cara sent you!
Beds weren't very comfortable but not horrible either. Not good for side sleepers - that's for sure, but not as bad as some reviewers made them out to be. I brought my own pillow too based on some of the reviews I read. Some of the staff was not too friendly. Learn some Spanish if you don't know any, that helps increase their friendliness and helpfulness towards you. One helper in the dining room pressured me to drink alcohol which I found really annoying, but that was only 1 guy out of many others who were very friendly and helpful. With some dishes it was difficult to tell if there was meat in them, it would be nice if they added ingredient lists at the buffet but the "healthy" section that contained 3 meatless options always had something I liked so I was pleased. The music at night was kind of annoying when trying to go to sleep early, but I'm pretty sure it never went past midnight. The people selling stuff on the beach can be extremely annoying/presistent, but I don't blame really blame them because they are doing what they can to get by.

Location: Within 15 – 20 minutes of the airport. Near 2 other hotels and a golf course, 2 mini malls with a restaurant and a few shops. Room: We stayed in the Catalina building in room 2203 and it was great and very clean. They provided a hair dryer, shampoo / conditioner, shower cap, soap, etc. and the bathroom was spotless. There was a closet with shelves in the front and there was also a balcony overlooking the pool. The bed was very comfortable and there was a flatscreen TV and a desk. There was also air conditioning which made the experience very comfortable. Atmosphere: There were A LOT of families, senior citizens and spring breakers at this resort. The pool was large, gorgeous with a swim up bar and a great temperature. Since this is an all-inclusive resort the drinks were free as well the food. They offered many activities throughout the day including water aerobics, pineapple toss, dance class, etc. They also have a section for kids as well as nightly entertainment (i.e. magic shows). Most of the chairs at the pool are claimed by 8am with towels, so get down there early! There is direct beach access, which gets very crowded with chairs by 11am. There are A LOT of beach vendors but if you pretend you’re sleeping or say “no thank you” they’ll leave you alone. The water is clear and warm. There’s also a private beach which you get with the upgraded package, but we decided not to pay an additional $40/night per person. Also, they say free Wi-Fi but it’s only in the “theater area” and barely connects. You have to pay for it in your room.
Staff: Very mixed results. Some staff was super friendly and went out of their way to ensure we were happy and had everything to make our stay enjoyable, while others acted like they couldn’t be bothered. I would like to see management create a consistent experience across all of their staff. For example, I had an allergic reaction to the shellfish (I wasn’t allergic prior... may have been the type of squid served) and my girlfriend we went to find me Benedryl. We went to both gift shops and they were EXTREMELY unhelpful. My girlfriend said my face was swollen and she was in a panic to get me medicine and one of cashiers was on the phone on a personal call hanging out and was no help at all. Luckily another guest told us there was a mini mall down the street that had a pharmacy where we could get Benedryl (ended up paying $11 for 12 tablets which was more $$ than normal). PS I'm fully healed :) Food: The food was terrible. Although it’s all-inclusive, we found the food to be inedible. The breakfast offered an omelet station your choice of green peppers, tomatoes, cheese, ham and corn or fried eggs and those were good. They also have a smoothie bar and if you ask for the “smoothie especial” they’ll give you an amazing creation by one of the staff. For lunch we ate salad with olives and chickpeas. The beef is extremely tough and fatty and the pasta was rubbery. We had dinner at the Italian restaurant on the grounds of the hotel and the meal was just as bad (the meal was included in the all-inclusive package).
Only redeeming factor is that it is relatively decently built though even that is generous - the taps were rusty etc
horrible food and super sugary drinks that barely have any alcohol in them terrible service and unhelpful staff my package said wifi was included but they shut it off after 1 day and then told me to pay for it - only free wifi in one common area of the resort also, as an example, getting a bottle of water was an ordeal. i ordered one multiple times and then finally got one 4 hours later overall, they barely provide the basics and try to upsell you on every thing. definitely find another resort for the same money or pay a little extra to go to a better place.
