perfect location. Friendly and efficient staff. excellent directions and very good english
the piazza no parking
Value for money We missed it a few times going round as it's an entrance between two cafes, but we should have asked first!
Only one minor criticism was the breakfast was not particularly good.
The location was superb for a visit to San Gimignano. The warm reception was pleasant. Wifi connectivity was sporadic.
The location is good, in a central square. But S Gimignano is so small that is not important. It´s a expensive hotel for what offers. Bad value for money.Noisy rooms and poor breakfast.
The rooms and the location
The location was the best possible place to be in S.G. Every part of the stay was wonderful, even considering that much of the town was closed for low season.
Lovely room overlooking square. Fantastic location and the best breakfast of all the hotels we stayed in.
We enjoyed are stay at the Leon Bianco - would recommend to anyone who likes a bit of peace and tranquility while visiting Italy Rooms with a view are outstanding and a joy to wake up to in the morning
Lovely views everywhere.........a shuttle to the main walking area of San Gimignano, very convenient.....beds were very uncomfortable and hard !! Nice breakfast by the pool. Quite pricey............. Hard beds !!!!
the mattresses on the beds were really hard and unconfortable
View from hotel good - nice having a balcony - room modern and nicely furnished. Pool area very nice. Atmosphere in restaurant would be much improved if the music was improved - having the radio on for meal times was not a good idea. Also the air conditioning in the room was controlled by a central computer - and did not seem to have any control in the room to make it cooler - would prefer to have the control myself. At Breakfast it was a self service buffet which was not a problem, but again it would have been improved if someone had served freshly made coffee - the coffee from the buffet was not very nice.
The stunning views and private balcony. Friendly staff. Indoor pool. Excellent shuttle to the heart of San Gimignano
breakfast were great; the staff was really nice; not a perfect environment for kids; our kids are 8 and 11, il was ok, but, to my advise, it would not be suitable for kids of younger age;
We found your place to be a peaceful relief coming from the hustle of Rome . The views were breathtaking and everything good about Tuscany. The food was wonderful . The coffee. Please get rid of that machine and make proper coffee
The view from this location is stunning (not from every room) but in general.Very quiet location with 15min walk into San Gimignano which is a beautiful old walled city perched atop a hillside-also stunning views here. Staff at hotel friendly and attentive, we had basic comfort room which was very nice. Only slight negative comment is that not all rooms look out over the hills, but I suppose thats going to be impossible!
Relais Cappuccina deserves a 10. This relatively new (5 years) hotel/resort has spared no expense to create a welcoming and quality getaway. Extremely friendly staff, superclean rooms, lavish breakfast in a stunning setting overlooking the Tuscan landscape and the old town of San Giminignano. The hotel has all the amenities one may desire and is conveniently located to make daytrips to Florence, Sienna etc. and is a great base to enjoy and discover the beauties of Tuscany. Highly recommended. Absolute value for money.
Location. The view. Breakfast was excellent.
Excellent location, stunning view from Swimming Pool of San Gimignano and yes shuttle service is operating! Cannot get anything to eat (not even a snack by the pool) once the kitchen is closed which is inconvenient given that the hotel is 1.5km from town. Small shower even for a small person.
great garden with swimming pool , good breakfast , nicely decorated diner was average
Subltle lightiing in the dining area in the evening would be nice
The beautiful countryside and the lovely view from our window. The breakfast was always the same food and after the second day you get bored with the same food.
Nice and big garden. Close to San Gimignano. Dinner could be better. The menu looks good but the food was not always good.
Beautiful Tuscan Villa. So relaxed. Surroundings are spectacular and the food in the restaurant is amazing. The free bus service to San Gimingano was great. The staff are great, cant fault this hotel.
Small and cosy, very friendly staff, warm atmosphere, beautiful surroundings (park), excellent starting point for visiting towns and places in Toscana.
Good size rooms, friendly staff. The breakfasts were uninteresting and limited in choice.
Spacious grounds, very friendly staff, great location for day trips. Dinners at the hotel were very good. Bed was a bit uncomfortable.
Close to the town, good views not being able to sit where we wanted to at breakfast
location , restaurant , breakfast
Just a very short walk into historical center so you can come and go as you please. Upgraded to best room and it was excellent with a great view. Breakfast good enough to satisfy most. Attentive staff. Had to upgrade to receive decent view.
Location, friendliness of staff, cleanliness Vey small bedrooms
Helpful staff. Clean. Lovely view, nice garden and pool. Walking distance to San Gimignano.
Location and parking.
The view from the bedroom window was spectacular. The location near town was most ideal. Everything was great
Helpfulness of lady on desk who arranged excursions
The hotel was perfect for a holiday in Tuscany. It was very peaceful and had beautiful views across the Tuscan hills. I would recommend this hotel 100%, the standard size bedroom was large with a great bathroom and great views. We stayed in Italy for 14 nights, 5 of which at this hotel and it was by far our favourite. We loved San Gimignano also, it has such character and history. The hotel is just a short walk from the city walls. Originally I has booked a "small" room. The room was as stated tiny but had been advertised as having a large balcony. When I went out on this 'large balcony',the view was non existant and was facing other similar small rooms and we could not see any of Tuscany at all. This made the combination of the small room and the balcony very claustraphobic. We were advised that we could upgrade to a standard room at an additional 40 euro per night. We decided to do this and received a remarkably better room with a fabulous view. So if you are going, I would recommend this room type without a doubt.
The hotel was lovely and staff very pleasant and welcoming. Dedicated parking was available, first come first serve, near the street for free, which was great! Location was good - a little far from town, but still walking distance. Location was very quiet, tranquil country setting. Pool looked beautiful and inviting. Lovely breakfast room overlooking garden and pool. Room was tiniest and most expensive of the 9 European hotels we stayed at. The bathroom was the most compact I have ever seen. I didn't even attempt to shower. The terrace was bigger than the room and bathroom combined, but was too windy and chilly to use it. I recommend this hotel because it was the easiest way to access the town and avoid the parking issues. Also, the hotel was very nice and the room was fine - just small.
Wonderful view - very pleasant surroundings within the grounds - convenient location Dogs barking continuously - not the hotels fault. Air con not working (too early in the year I imagine) so not fully adaptable to unseasonable weather.
Visit date- Apr 28-30,2012. temp cool. Charming, old-world culture.Location was perfect for leisurely strolls through the town. The attached restaurant offered a beautiful vista over the surrounding countryside. Lots of ambience for evening dining. Very substantial breakfasts were served here as well. staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were small but adequate. We found the shops in San Gimignano offered the best variety of leather goods and prices were more reasonable than anywhere else as we travelled throughout Tuscany to Rome. We regretted not purchasing our handbags, belts and leather jackets there. All our accommodations were booked through booking.com. Every location met our expectations, and all reservations were as described on booking.com website. Know where you are going! Be sure you are at the right gate for entrance to the city. The streets are narrow and you really do not want to take a car into the city even to drop off luggage. There are no lifts and you must climb stairs with your luggage.Travel light..we didn't ! Hotel is only a short distance from the back entrance. Ask for a room in the back of the hotel. Our room overlooked the main street and at 6:00am each morning the trash and wine bottles are collected. It sounded like a bottle recycling location!
the reception staff were very helpfull, our room was lovely and the view amazing I was dissapointed that towels were not provided at the pool. The lighting in the restaurant was too harsh in the evening and the atmosphere was spoilt by this. i also found one of the waiters quite bolshy and not a credit to the rest of your staff
We liked the location with splendid views of the surrounding countryside. The garden area and pool side area were pleasant for relaxing and the pool side lunches were very good We were disappointed by the lack of staff to attend to us as guests . No porter to take our bags to our room . Not accompanied to the room to show us where it was or show the facilities . No staff except a receptionist to get us drinks in the evening . Untrained staff in the restaurant . Delay in service in the restaurant in the evening .
The facility itself is charming and has a great location. Service. Almost non existent. Perhaps not for a lacking of trying, but rather poorly managed.
The location of the hotel and its facilities are excellent. The staff were very attentive and helpful.
landscape, location and facilities
View, food, cleanliness, internal design, facilities
Situation, staff friendliness, room and room terrasse with view on Toscany hills, spa and fittness centre, swimming pool, quietness, restaurant Nothing
Stunning views of San Gimignano and Tuscany. Fantastic location. Excellent spa. Good pool area. Good room. Good food. Good staff.
Really nice restaurant and wait staff. It was really quite expensive for what it was. The pool wasn't great.
Room and pool Breakfast and bathroom supplies no hair conditioner
Great location inside the ancient City walls Their directions to find the hotel were very poor. Heard other guests making same comment.
Hotel was charming and perfectly situated. The room was very clean and well appointed.Staff was gracious, welcoming and very helpful. Would definitely return.Have recommended it to friends.Parking was a boon.
This hotel had a great location for exploring Umbria and it was great to return to in the evening. The dining room was an extra special treat for lunch or dinner. A gourmet delight. Would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a beautiful, relaxing setting with unbelievable food!
We both really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were very courteous and helpful without being intrusive. I'd come back here again.
the extra-helpful staff the piazza on which it was located was a little shabby
Location, friendly staff, quality of room
Excellent position within the walls of the town, easy walking distance to all areas of interest. The bathroom was very small with only a shower and no bath.
The hotel has lots of character without sacrificing any modern comforts. The staff was extremely friendly and enjoyed sharing information about their beautiful town and the surrounding area. I will definately go back there again. Getting to the hotel for the first time, in the dark, proved to be a little difficult. The photos on the web site helped a lot, but providing an idea of distances between turns will be useful.
The location of the hotel was ideal. The parking lots were out side of the city of San Gimignano and far from the hotel. We had to take our luggages long way to the hotel.
convenience to centre and pleasnatness and helpfulness of reception staff and breakfast staff No, for our short stay everything was good.
Lovely hotel, lovely location. Everything was just perfect. Already decided i will be returning to this hotel and have recommended it to family too. Can be difficult to find if you do not get a map from the restaurant Madragola which is owned by the same people
The style of the hotel. the rooms are small but very well decorated. The breakfast was plain! one choice of cereral. The same choice of bread cheese and cold meat every morning!! The sweet crossants were good but i would have preferred better cold cuts and better bread.
This is a great location with some interesting rooms and a great observation deck for viewing the San Gimignano. The staff needs to smile and be more greatful for guests. The Chambermaid was very accommodating and friendly. If it were not for her we would never have been able to check into the B&B when we did. We had stayed her before and loved the location. It was very noisey this trip because of a motorcycle racing through the narrow streets for over an hour. This is not the hotel's fault, but the towns problem. I would stay here again, but only in one of the two rooms on the garden level facing the garden. Smile next time and say happy you're here spending your money with us. Because you did not have your % off for eating in your rest. we eat somewhere else. Short sited, just because the concert was in town.
It was in the centre of the old town, with a lovely view from the roof-top terrace. The girl at reception was only in the guesthouse for and hour in the morning and then in the evening, and the front door was locked, so dont check in before 2pm or you will be left waiting outside the door. It was frustrating if you had a query, you could never guarantee she would be there, and if you locked yourself out, you had no hope!
Large, clean room. Excellent garden. Prime position in town. Check-in time is limited and there are not always staff available in the hotel.
It is right inside the town walls, close to the main square. The room was spacious and offered value for money. It is not airconditioned and as there were mosquitoes about, we could not open the window and the room was very stuffy for sleeping. The roof top terrace that we had read so much about was locked and inaccessible. Having to stop at the restaurant for directions cost us 2 euro in parking for 10 mins when they could easily put the instructions in an email. It is a ploy to get you to make a reservation there I think.
I loved this hotel and can not fault it in any way. Great room and views, staff, breakfast, cleanliness and possition. no
coming and going as I pleased, use of rooftop terrace, ensuite bathroom and comfortable bed - and then there was the view from the bedroom window - stunning.
The views from the roof terrace and their fabulous, inexpensive restaurant (in town) Staff weren't always there, otherwise, nothing.
charming rooms, nice decor, nice location there is no one available at the front desk- after you check in; they give you a key for the front door, and disappear. we only saw the guy at breakfast time which, by the way, is only an hour ( 8:30- 9:30am). there is no wake up call service. there is not an alarm clock in the room, no electric kettle or safe either.
tranquility, size of room
perfect location for exploring Cianti, palazzo fully renovated with all amenities, everything in high quality level,we would like to come back !
Well equipped, comfortable rooms with good lighting. clean, quiet and well placed for our trip.
This hotel is secluded and quiet. The rooms are extremely well appointed and the staff is courteous and helpful. Internet access is free. Parking is convenient with a large lot that is much less challenging than most European hotle lots. The parking lot is outside the city wall about 200 meters from the hotel. There is a loadng zone for guests in front of the hotel. The hotel is a bit removed from restaurants. The town is very hilly and walking to restaurants is a good workout. There is one restaurant about 100 meters from the hotel.
i loved the hotel. my only complaint is that it costs 20 euro per person to use the pool. lovely hotel, great area
Very nice staff, excellent rooms. The SPA had very restrictive hours. The breakfast should be better in order to keep up with the rest.
We liked the personal service at the hotel, the history of the place and the beautiful surroundings. Location was also excellent for visits to neighbouring tourist attractions.
a wonderful family run hotel in a lovely setting & beautiful grounds
We found the hotel and the surrounding areas to be visited to be in a perfect location. The restaurant also had great quality food and a superb staff working with you at all times. We were taken care of with the utmost of sincerity from everyone. Truly enjoyed our experience at Hotel Villa San Lucchese. A little hard to find but the views from the hotel were worth finding this special place.
This charming hotel is situated in the beautiful hills of Tuscany with stunning views...There is an excellent restaurant attached to the hotel...
Stylish hotel, situated on a great location (between Sienna and Florence), within reasonable distance of the main worth visiting spots of Toscany and close to town that offers good transport facilities. The hotel is on top of a hill thus offering nice scenic views) and has very good facilities. Suite was spacious and comfortable with stylish and comfortable furniture and well equipped (minibar, safe, flat screen TV) that offered great views over the surrounding hills. Breakfast was nice and common areas (garden, pool, lounge, breakfast area) attractive. Staff could not have been more helpful. Overall convenience of location, amenities and staff efficiency it represented exactly what my family and I wanted in all respects. All in all, it could not have been more perfect for us. Nothing in particular
Beautiful villa ... clean room ... quiet Bed was really hard
The superior room was rather ordinary, but the view was great. The food and related service was quite good, especially breakfast. I enjoyed the pool. The staff was exceptionally friendly, and the villa was very lovely and historical. We were glad we stayed there and not in Florence. The dinner menu during the week was limited.
The restaurant had awesome food, but the waiters were horrible.
Friendly staff, great breakfast and convenient location for touring the area.
It was much below expectations, and certainly not an 4 star hotel. A number of things were not functioning, and the staff was not even tryng to compensate it with friendliness. Dinner was also bad and overpriced. It is a pitty, because hotel is on very nice location, and it could represent great hub for Chianti visit. I would not go there again.
you have the car this place is the best at good value!
Location of the hotel, if you have a car and you want to visit Toscana, this is a perfect choice
Very efficient stuff, fair restaurant. Unfortunately not a least one chair to sit on in the room. The rest is OK
Very good hotel situated between Firenze and Siena from where you can make trips to the beautiful Chianti area, Moteriggioni and San Gimignano. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful with advices.
The accessibility from the Firenze-Sienna highway The first night one of the beds was broken, so they had to change the room. The 2 dinners we had at the hotel were so-so.
Ease of access. Stores, restaurants nearby. Breakfast included. Free and easy parking. Hotel very rundown. Internet promised but none--absolutely none--available.
easy to find, very close to the highway very low quality breakfast
Breakfast was nice (except for the fleshy fruit which had bugs all over them and the bowls were not covered), easy to find. We only stayed one night, but it was convenient to San Gimignano. I think it was my fault, but I was expecting something different. When the ad mentioned "views of rolling Tuscan hills," I was expecting something not in the middle of town with traffic zooming by at all hours of the day and night.
I only can confirm the encomiums about the breakfast - it was outstanding and the best one I had during the trip through Tuscany. Staff was very friendly. We had a nice furnished room and a big bathroom. All clean. I felt very comfortable. Recomendable!
Nice well run family owned hotel with the personal touch. Very clean with all you could require for your stay. Great breakfast, spacious rooms, bar available, some food available. Restaurant & shop 100m away in village. Very quiet area between Volterra (14km) & San Gimignano (12k) Only thing is the rooms could do with some sound proofing.
What a lovely place to relax. Excellent staff and wonderfull breakfast!
Provided us with a good base for travelling in the area. Room was very clean and comfortable. Owner was courteous but could have been more welcoming - perhaps he did not feel comfortable speaking English - his wife however was very nice, and helpful.
Friendly welcome. Lovely clean hotel. Excellent breakfast. Room cleaned quickly & efficiently every day. Staff very helpful. Everything so clean. Near the road so noisy in the early hours when trying to sleep.
The staff were wonderful and the breakfast was amazing If it had a restaurant it would be unbeatable
It was my fourth stay at the Hotel. Everything is excellent but their breakfast is the best you can find anywhere.
convenient location, easy to find and excellent breakfast buffet no
I think it's a good opportunity to stay in a place close to one of the most important historic town in the world. It's a quite good opportunity not only for a family but for a business travel too.
Room was adequate size, clean with modern, pleasant decore. Bathroom plumbing worked perfectly with no 'surprises'.
The food was excellant although the restaurant was a bit like a canteen with bright lighting.
Super for visiting Tuscany very helpful about local transport lovely bathroom(s) good breakfast terrace Forgetting to tell us that the restaurant would be shut on Sunday!
The place was beautiful. The staff was friendly. The room was very clean and beautiful. The breakfast was great. The home made wine was delicious! Everything was wonderful. Most of the staff didn't speak English which was a little hard for communication. It was a little hard getting there, better directions would have helped. But after we got there it was worth every minute.
The views were amazing and the staff were friendly and helpful The rooms were terribly cold at night (mid February), and the breakfast was pretty meagre
Beautiful Location & Friendly Staff Rooms were small
Only the location is ok. Services are very poor, in fact we had to wait even for check-out. Also breakfast couldn't be called a breakfast, tablecloth was very dirty, room very poor, definitely can't be called a four star villa.
unique location, surroundings, calm and quite, concept, location, view, accommodation some front-desk staff, lack of customer orientation, poor breakfast (room, quality, setup and cleanliness)
Hotel apartments authentically Italian with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Lack of public bar area, restaurant (only opened if 6 or more guests dining), poor selection at breakfast time. Slightly isolated with very few facilities on site.
location-spacy room-very quiet during night-nice place to have breakfast
staff very friendly; food very tasty; position beautiful, over hills.
In a beautiful setting with wonderful views. Staff all very friendly & helpful. The double room in converted barn we had was large, but due to design no clear outlook from windows or place to sit eg. balcony.
Poderi Arcangelo is an old olive farm and vineyard whose stone buildings are renovated for "agritourism." It is set in the beautiful Tuscan landscape, with a modern swimming pool overlooking the fields of grapes. The pool softens the rustic lifestyle and was so enjoyable on the hot summer days. We stayed in a former hayloft, which meant our bed was upstairs from the ground floor where our children stayed. We were travelling with another family and they had the adjacent suite. None of the guest rooms have refrigerators, although a small one is available for shared use in a nearby building. Air conditioners are installed in the rooms but turning them on costs an additional 6 euros per day (like having a pay toilet in your room). The alternative is to sleep with windows open and be eaten by mosquitoes. The evening meals were OK in quality and variety but quite expensive and had to be ordered ahead of time. The poderi does not sell drinks during the day and the staff takes a siesta after serving sandwiches at lunchtime (they must also be ordered ahead of time).
The location is v.good - short driving distances to San Gimignano, Siena, Monteriggioni, & Volterra. Hotel is on the outskirts of town, but still reasonable walking distance to main centre of Colle di Val D'Elsa. The staff are all very pleasant & helpful. Only very minor things like lack of 1 or 2 ameniites in the bathroom (eg tissues)
Quiet accomodation ,fair price for fair room. The facility "decor" is unique but something is missing for the ambiance. Maybe low frequentation that night. The dinner at the hotel restaurant was not up to our expectation. Limited amount of client (3 or 4 tables) probably account for quality of food, which was fair. Wine was just a little over price but service was good.
It was a super location in the heart of Tuscany. Buses to Sienna and Florence are just up the road and a great cafe and restaurant are across the road. The Hotel had a very relaxed feel and excellent outdoor surroundings/pool. Breakfast was 15 euros per person and very overpriced for what it was. The main bar area felt souless and we saw no-one use it.
The room was over two floors, a fantastic amount of space. Nothing, the room was excellent.
Nice gardens and pool This hotel is over promoted and does not live up to the claims made in its marketing. It is located on the edge of the town and is definitely not within walking distance of town as claimed. It is also not a 4 star property, more a like 3 star. Prperty is over priced and does not offer good value for money.
The place in general , swimming pool
The buidling and atmosphere and friendliness of staff - we also upgraded our room to one overlooking the old town which was much nicer than the "superior room" we had booked which was very dark and quite plain. Too close to a busy main road and dogs barking all night. Also the restaruant was not open in the evenings and there was no room service - there were also no clear directions on web site or actual signage on the road from Sienna so we drove past etc
The staff were charming and very helpful. Very pleasant setting. Pool and gardens were lovely. Breakfast and restaurant excellent. Our room (#401, in one of the newer outbuildings) was a bit dark -- particularly the bathroom. The furniture (bed, sofa) could have been more comfortable.
This is a converted monastery that was built in the 10th century or earlier. It is an amazing hotel. Service is great and the rooms and facilities are very nice.
Nice atmosphere. Relaxing. For people who like to have a quiet hotel and not crowded. The breakfast was very basic. Not a 4 star hotel quality.
Scenery, swiming pool, in the middle of vigniards Breakfast should be definately be improved
Glorious Tuscany views and off the beaten path. So relaxing. Never did figure out the heating controls so cool nights were very cool. Breakfast selections were few compared to other Italian overnight accomodations.
The location was very nice. A very quiet and picturesque place for relaxing. Parking also available. About 25km to Siena but also close to access Volterra, Firenze, San Gimignano and the Chianti area. They changed sheets and towels every three days unless you asked for daily changing (10 euros additional). Breakfast was rather poor while breakfast and dinner hours were short (1,5 hour for breakfast and 1 hour for dinner). We tried to have dinner one night and only for that night we had to have made special reservation earlier that day (not that this was mentioned anywhere). The staff's english was quite poor. If my wife didn't speak italian I am not sure if I could get around.
Wonderful views of the Tuscan countryside, lovely pool and comfortable room. Ideal place to stay with a car to travel to explore local towns such as San Gimingnano.
The view from our room was really beautiful and the furniture matched to the atmosphere of Tuscany. We also liked the cleanness of the room. However first it was really hard to find the hotel, we liked the location of the hotel, all the important cities were close and it was easy to reach them. Poor English knowledge of the staff, especially via phone, and the breakfast was a bit boring for 5 days.
The hotel was in a nice countryside setting. The staff was not friendly or welcoming. It was a very uncomfortable stay because of the manners of the staff.
Ideal for staying in and enjoying the atmosphere in Lucca, in the heat of the old town and surounded by the shops and restaurants of the old city.
