What are the pros of staying at Hostal Km Zero, El Senor del Lascar?
Good security, Very helpful staff. Perfect location and great staff. The wifi was awesome!location great! Close to the centre. Clean. Nice hostal located close to the town centre. Room was basic but very clean and cozy. Owners were friendly and helpful. It was cheap(er) compared to most places in San Pedro and the rooms were good - decent working bathroom and shower, aircon worked too. The bed was comfortable and the location is very central to San Pedro. Ideal stay for a night or two with a wardrobe for clothes and a private bathroom. The host also let us keep our bags at the property before we went on our last tour so we could collect on the way back to the hotel. Hot water, use of the kitchen, outdoor space to relax, luggage storage. The receptionist was very friendly and accommodating. The little table with hot water, tea and coffee beside reception was a nice touch. Great location. Very cute decor. A very simply equipped room (but completely enough), quite big, hot water, nice stuff, dining tables also outside which was good. The ideal hostel. Clean spacious room and perfect location in town but down a side street. This made it super quite which was very welcomed because San Pedro had a a bit of a party vibe at night in places with street musicians etc. We wanted a calm and relaxing place from which to do our early tours and we got just that. Very helpful staff too and well equipped kitchen. Good location. Very clean. Use of the clean kitchen. Cold bottle of water available at the reception. Space to dry your clothes outside. The lady in charge is well organized. Close to Caricoles, the Main Street. Well stocked kitchen and kind staff. Near the main street in San pedro de atacama (Caracoles Street) and the hostel has everything that you need to your stay. Enev that we don’t have breakfast in the hostel, we have a big kitchen that we could buy our food and stuffs to prepare everything for us. Recommended if you are looking for hostel/hostal in san pedro do atacama
What are the cons of staying at Hostal Km Zero, El Senor del Lascar?
There was always hot water but the hotel was not fully booked. The room was small. The person working at reception has got 0 social skills. Internet extremely slow. A bit pricey for what you get. In summary: Hotel room was decent and reasonably priced for the area, but the staff tried to overcharge us, refused to give us another toilet roll, refused to change bathroom bin. Bit of a weird one this. When we arrived the woman at the desk, who was nice and friendly, said we couldn’t pay on card (you can pay on card without charge for even the smallest amounts in every shop and restaurant we went to). She gave us the price in Chilean pesos and also USD. She said we could only pay with crisp new USD bank notes to which I tried to explain that it’s not up to us what an exchange place or an ATM gives us. In the end we gave her the pesos and of course she wasn’t happy we didn’t have the right change. Again, we are tourists and we get our money from ATMs so… anyway she said she would give us change later that day. When we asked in the evening, she then played very dumb around the change situation and kept saying she didn’t have any change. We were leaving at 6am the next morning so I was keen to get the change the night before. I ended up just asking ‘why’ and refused to leave reception until she suddenly ‘remembered’ she had the change all along and then gave it to me. Then she whipped out a card machine to give me a receipt!! It got worse.. we asked for another toilet roll for the room as we had run out, and she simply refused. Luckily I’d brought one for emergencies from the last hotel. Then we asked if they would change the bin in the bathroom, which was completely full and there were now bugs crawling all over it. Again she refused and gave us a bin liner. They also kept asking us what time we were leaving and what time we had tours in the morning, presumably to clean the room? But that never happened… We’ve been travelling for 5 months in South America and not had an odd experience like this. No one speaks English. Only get the US dollar cash (if you want to pay by peso, you have to pay 19% more even if you are foreigner). Lots of bugs (spiders, mosquitos etc.). No any kind of transfers. No breakfast, so small and loud bed and so cold at night. Cleanliness of the kitchen (sponges, towels) could be better. Bed was creaky and not the most comfortable. Room closest to reception - noisy as people leaving early for tours. Kitchen equipment a bit basic. Wi-Fi is a bit unreliable. Our room was nice reception so a little Noisy.
