Pros: We stayed at the Eagles Crag lodges which were totally amazing. The lodge was completely private with a private pool, superb room with 2 bathrooms one leading to an outside shower and beautifully furnished. All the staff were outstanding and couldn’t do enough for you, with excellent food choices and cocktails. The ranger we had (David) was outstanding and each safari (4 in 2 days) were different, exciting and gave a true insight into complexities of the animal world. We will definitely return. Thanks guys for making The Shamwari an experience we will never forget.

Pros: Lovely small friendly lodge with luxurious private tented bedroom suites and excellent freshly cooked food. Feels especially intimate because they have max 8 adult guests We met great fellow travellers there - you eat family style round a large table. Excellent twice daily game drives with Chris. They supply warm waterproof ponchos and hot water bottles in a cold morning Returning to find elephants drinking from the pool was the highlight
Cons: Maybe better WiFi ( slow when others are also using it, though I hate to criticise anything because it was such a fabulous place

Pros: All round fantastic place to stay. Incredible location with stunning views. The rooms and communal areas were exquisite, and finished to a fantastic standard. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all made fresh to order and were all delicious. The best part was no doubt the safari and our ranger Byron, he was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, funny and pationatte which made it an even more amazing experience. We would definitely be recommending this place to anyone who will listen! Thanks again

Pros: Everything! Amazing staff, facilities, food and service. Safari drives were exceptional - Roelof our guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Our last drive was a dream come true! We were also lucky enough to have the elephants come to visit the pool!l

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic game drives
Cons: Perhaps more attention on the hot water in the rents
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This really was what the newspapers call a once-in-a-lifetime holiday! It is ( to most people) very expensive, but the sheer intimacy and intensity of the safari experience were wonderful. The main lodge building is beautiful and airy; the chalets are tents, but superbly built and luxurious. There are two expert rangers who take you on dawn and dusk drives. Every drive is different and exciting: you will see the whole range of 'game' at very close quarters. Meanwhile, your every need is catered for: a big thank you from Linda and Andrew!
Cons: We had no complaints at all- quite the reverse, in fact!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. The team were wonderful... attentive discrete, knowledgeable and funny. The whole place was stunning and when the herd of elephants came to drink from the pool, we felt like the luckiest people on earth.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We spent 2 nights at Hills Nek and we had the best time ever. Apart from the great safari- experiences, the location itself is absolutely breathtaking. Further, everything from Check-in, to meals or any extra wishes is taken perfect care of. The staff of Hills Nek is lovely and also very professional. Unfortunately, we missed the elefant's visit to the location as they frequently show up to drink from the pool. Thank you again for this wonderful experience.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: was an exceptional stay
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole experience of staying at Inzolo Lodge exceeded our expectations from the friendly staff, the knowledge and expertise of Michael and Justin on our game drives, the lovely food, and the comfort of our room with even a view from the floor to ceiling window in the shower. The candles and roaring fire when we arrived back at the lodge in the evening created a very magical atmosphere, we loved every minute of our stay and wished we could have stayed longer. Thank you.
Cons: We couldn't fault it at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great rooms, service and friendly staff. Game drives were fun and personable
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We stayed two nights at Inzolo Lodge and we had an amazing time. Our ranger, Cleo, was super nice and he tried everything to make our stay as unforgettable as possible. The game drives were really nice and we saw lots of animals: elephants, lions, giraffe, zebras, hippos ... even the cheetah is possible to see (we had no luck, but the guests we met before had). At the end of the game drive we made a stop for a sundowner and had some drinks while watching the sunset - sooo nice! What's also really special about Inzolo Lodge that they have only 4 rooms and so it's very personal, like a small family. There is one big table at which the breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner will be served. All 4 rooms were occupied when we were there and we had lots of fun in the group. I still think it's very expensive (we paid 1.750 € for two nights and two persons) but it was the money worth. We had an amazing time that we won't forget! Thank you!
Cons: Only one small pool
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Outstanding service - fulfilled our every wish
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Inzolo lodge is fantastic. The setting is breathtaking and the accommodation equally so. All of the staff are incredibly attentive and ensure you have the best possible stay. Our Ranger Justin was absolutely fantastic, so knowledgeable and Provided great insight into the wildlife we saw. Thanks to all at Inzolo lodge!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing experience. The staff thought about everything. We unfortunately had some rainy days, but we received hot towels when arriving and hot water bottels and blankets were provided on the safari which was greatly guided by Justin. Very knowledgeable guide who showed us lion, buffalo, giraffe, cheetah, lots of birds, impala and more. Definitely worth the money!
Cons: Nothing. The wheather was not so good so we could not make use of the pool or outside bath tub, but nevertheless the comfort, food and service was great!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is a peaceful place with a lovely view. The rooms are of top quality, the bed very comfortable. All you need is available in the room. The safaris with Ranger Cleo were highly interesting; we learnt a lot and saw some of the big 5. Thank you.
Cons: Communication with the reservations team was difficult and inconsistent. Lunch and dining is not at 5-star level; no wine pairing. Service staff is very motivated, friendly and helpful but insufficiently trained.

Pros: Woodbury Lodge met every expectation and provides a really personal service in a beautiful location with panoramic views across the valley. Every game drive was an adventure - and our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and entertaining (Brad).
Cons: Nothing to dislike
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It is a beautiful place, nice rooms and friendly people. Everything is included and the fire when we came back from our game drive was great (including warm chocolate and Amarula)!
Cons: We expected a little more of the food (we had a buffet after our game drive and that was not really special regarding the price you pay. The swimming pool was under construction so that will be better when it is finished.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff and good food. Conveniently located near PE and malaria free
Cons: In comparison to previous safaris it appeared to have little game but enough for my sister and husband who have never been on safari before
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had an amazing stay at Woodbury lodge. Rooms were comfortable and clean, food was amazing, staff were very lovely. Our guide that took us out on our game drives each day was just brilliant.

Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spectacular setting, luxurious accommodation, excellent food and service, game drives with knowledgeable nature guides, meeting and socialising with other guests, laid-back and sociable friendly atmosphere. We were uncertain about how authentic the Reserve would be so we were excited at the wild feel of the place even though it is a relatively small Reserve.
Cons: We enjoyed everything. We made a mistake with the tipping at the end but are trying to put this right.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff with our guide, Seamus, looking after us well. Drives were well organised as was the running of the camp.
Cons: Weather could have been better! Food was OK but nowhere near as good as at the camps we visited in Botswana 2 years ago.

6.7 Good
Cons: The price is crazy for the quality of the tent, the safari and the food.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing game reserve experience. The tents were brilliant, food was great and staff really helpful. Two drives a day and we saw everything we had hoped to see including an elephant just next to where we were eating breakfast. Much better value than other places we looked at nearby because of the tents
Cons: The pool isn’t heated so very chilly for our May visit.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was very clean and staff were very helpful.
Cons: Nothing
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Enjoyed the food, the game drives, the privacy of the tents and sitting around the the campfire following the evening drives.
Cons: Very little. Only real negative was half the floor of one of our tents was damp/ wet but was understandable considering the rain we had.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Location stunning. Animals magical. Food excellent. Staff couldn't do enough for us. Knowledgeable guides. Peaceful setting. Unbelievable landscapes.
Cons: Very very windy a few nights and tents certainly take a strain rattling around rather scarily sometimes
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The homemade bread was delicious! Being under canvas added to our experience. The enthusiasm of our ranger, Brad.
Cons: Our loo was blocked!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Words cannot express how wonderful it was. The tents were great the surrounding were fabulous. A wonderful view of the game reserve from balcony. Food excellent. Staff friendly. Safari fantastic. Wish we had a third night there.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff super friendly, ranger Jean Luc a real master!
Cons: One night we got out of water but it did not last long.
7.1 Good
Pros: Lots of interesting animals game ranger, Josh, very helpful.
Cons: Swimming pool slimy, no effort made to clean. No hot water in chalet 2. Fire burning in lodge even when hot, none of guests seemed to like it. In chalet 3 the outside shower had been patched up and water squirted through patch.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Tents were luxurious and comfortable. There's nothing quite like an outside shower under the stars. Staff were helpful, attentive and friendly. Game drives were amazing and our Game Ranger (Stanley) was fun, friendly, knowledgeable and really made our visit. Family of elephants drinking from the swimming pool.
Cons: A couple of things made this a bit less than perfect . The breakfasts and lunches were great. The evening meals were a bit disappointing. It was like they were trying to provide haute cuisine but the execution wasn't up to it. The other annoying thing was that although drinks were inclusive it was often hard to get wine glasses topped up and the bar was often unmanned. Service was very attentive except where alcohol was involved. Silly things like an almost constant lack of ice detracted from the experience.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good excellent. Room was amazing
Cons: Air on not strong enough. Too hot at night
6.3 Good
Pros: The lodge was good regarding living and common spaces
Cons: We didn't saw animals to our expectations. This is the "main point all the rest are "side topic andwe were extremly disappointed. Don't expect Kenia or Tansania experience. Does'nt even resemble them. From accomodation point they were good and specious however water in shower were just a drizzel
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The luxury tents were a fun way to experience safari. The bedrooms and bathroom were of a very high quality. The food was good and our ranger, Andrew, excellent. On our last day, he went in hot pursuit of a cheetah, which we saw up close! Highlight of the trip!
Cons: I booked this particular game reserve because they sell it as a Big 5 reserve, however our ranger didn’t even attempt to find a leopard on our drives and admitted no ranger had ever seen a leopard with guests. I know they are extremely elusive but it was still a little disappointing as we could have stayed at far cheaper game reserves if we knew the chances of seeing a leopard were practically nil!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Elvis was very welcoming. Due to a winter visit, we worried tents would be cold...but heater & linen made room toasty warm. Stunning tent setups. Breakfast had a great selection. Andrew was a fantastic ranger, lots of additional information given and 2 brilliant game viewing experiences.
Cons: Indicated it was a special occassion for our visit, nothing done to make our visit any more special or even said to us. Why even ask? Maybe a 1 night visitor is not priority... Staff were sometimes too absent during service.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely perfect stay. Amazing room, comfy bed & good WiFi in rooms (each hut has its own WiFi box) Great shower & a bath that looks out onto the reserve. Saw giraffes, zebra, elephants, and many antelope from our room. We saw 4 of the big 5 on our safaris. The guides are soooo knowledgable. Blankets, snacks, wine provided! Also a special thank you for going the extra mile with catering for me (I’m vegan). I basically got to choose what I wanted to eat while I was there. All the food was amazing for me and my meat-eating partner.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Once in a life-time experience. We stayed in a 2 room luxury tent. Very spacious and with comfortable beds, a filled minibar and everything else you need. Be aware, that the shower is outside, which means you probably won't use it before the early safari start as it is cold in the morning and dark. There is also a bath tub and you have a wonderful view from every side of the tent and from the patio. 2 safaris per day were included in the package and they were amazing. We had a great ranger, and he did everything he could to make our trip special, but in general the wildlife in the park is really nice. They have a pool, but the pool is more used by the animals rather than the guests. There is an elephant visiting almost every afternoon, for a drink in the pool, which is great to witness. Just means, you probably are less likely to swim in it. Staff was very nice. Everyone, also those , who were still fairly new and obviously still learning did their utmost to make sure we are happy. I would absolutely recommend this lodge.
Cons: They advertise to cater for children, but unfortunately there were no other children, so the children room (anyway more suited for smaller children than teenagers) staid empty. The food was ok, but could be improved. You have to say in the morning at what time you want to eat, but sometimes the safaris take longer and then there is not even enough time to shower beforehand. Also, even when we were on time, the food was tasty, but not always hot anymore. So more flexibility would be great. Also, I wish they had catered a little bit more for children in the restaurant (on the excursions it was great!).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It was clean, the whole staff was very polite, the outdoor shower

Pros: Outstanding. Had our doubts reading some reviews but this place really had character. We had a lovely large room which was very well serviced. Lots of great food from early morning to evening. Wonderful game drives seeing so many animals, thanks very much Obud. Great to be welcomed by Bill and Rose in the pub after our game drive; great stories and hospitality. Good to relax by the lovely pool in the afternoon. A fellow guest had been here 8 times; easy to see why.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bill and Rose are lovely hosts and we loved the pub and the food was all excellent as well as the drinks. Our guide Rogan was very knowledgeable and good fun. All the staff were amazing
Cons: Nothing all great
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff and delicious food. The game drives at Amakhala were amazing and we have seen the Big Five. The rangers know everything about the animals and the nature.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service by staff, everyone helpful and friendly.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Property is inside Amakhala Game Reserve And the game drives are very nice! The staff is very kind! Bed is good and the room is big!
Cons: It could have more options during the dinner, but as we stayed just one night this was not an issue!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming, friendly staff and owners. It felt like we were staying with family and friends. The ranger was knowledgeable and fun to spend time with.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely everything! The game drives, the room, the food, Bill's pub, particularly the warm welcome from everyone.
Cons: Absolutely nothing! Everything and everyone were amazing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a wonderful place. The hospitality is great, Bill and Rose like to meet their guests and invite them to join them for a pre dinner drink. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much for them. It is both stimulating and relaxing to stay there. A real country house in lovely surroundngs.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: From the start of our stay, until the end, everything was magical. The staff are extremely warm and attentive, the sort you would only come across in a high end establishment. (For example, we were given blankets and hot water bottles on the morning game drive when it was cold). As such, we were more than looked after during our stay. The house was full of antique furniture, and beautifully decorated. We had the most comfortable night and wish we could have stayed longer just to enjoy this experience. On the game drives we saw almost all the “Big 5” animals. There is a variety of game in the reserve. It was such a joy to be able to meet owners Bill and Rose for drinks before dinner. They are such a charming couple! I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone considering a short safari “taster”.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff is extremely nice and helpful. We loved staying there. Everyone treated us like royalty, we were well taken care of. The reserve is stunningly beautiful, and we saw almost all of the big five... missed the leopard, but it didn’t matter because the experience was worth every second. We went on 4 safari rides, and Obutke, our ranger, made every one of them fun and enjoyable. In the morning we were received with a hot waterbag and blankets, before returning we had coffee and pastries. In the afternoon, we had cocktails and savory snacks. The food round the clock was delicious and super abundant!! Our compliments to the cook! We would highly recommend this place to our friends and family
Cons: Since we were the only guests for the weekend, they upgraded us to the master suite. The room was huge, which would have been nice if it wasn’t as cold as it was. The floor heating was turned on during the afternoon but wasn’t enough for the size of the bedroom. The bathroom had no heating and it was freezing cold. It wasn’t pleasurable, we weren’t hoping for “bath time”. Other than this, which I’m guessing only happens in winter, everything was amazing!

Pros: Location and staff are fantastic.
Cons: Nights were cold and heating in luxury tents was not adequate. I woke up both nights due to cold Despite informing the staff that my daughter is vegan they did not seem to understand i.e. she was asked if she wanted chicken, butter and biltong!!! Also they offered her no real choice at mealtimes Safari drives are long i.e. 4 hours and really a comfort break is required after 2 hours with all the bouncing around
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Made you feel you were living the jungle experience but with 5 star comfort
Cons: No dislikes

Pros: The experience at Shamwari is beyond amazing, the rooms, staff and food are all world class!
7.9 Good
Cons: Pool not heated and too cold to dip in. Overall place needs an upgrade. Boma disappointing. Expected more for the price. Price didn’t include wine or mini bar which other game reserves of similar price include. Dining inside due to monkeys.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Reasonable price, informal and friendly.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent guided game drives. Delicious breakfasts, and nice to have snacks and drinks part way through drives. Tranquil setting and the lodge had rustic charm.
Cons: Wifi didn't work in the part of the lodge we stayed in, although they were going to try to fix it (after we left) and we were able to use it in the main house. We would have liked to be able to go to bed a bit earlier (given the 5.30am starts for game drives) after the group 3 course meal each night!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Braun and Roger were amazing hosts. Braun helped with little things like carrying the luggage. Braun was friendly and had a good sense of humor, which helped us feel relaxed from the start. The lodge is basic but very cosy. There is a nice shared living room area for relaxing. The game drives into both Amakala and Shamwari were a treat! Braun was very experienced and went the extra mile to help us see animals up close (we even saw a cheetah feeding, and went on a long search for hippo). We also enjoyed the Koffie breaks as well the meals together! All in all - a great place! Would recommend it to everyone who wants a safari experience!
Cons: The accommodation was a bit cold; the heater helped a little.

This unique walking experience is ideal for guests looking for an adventurous and authentic option offering the ambience of a tented bush camp of old safari lore. The camp is located on a plateau set amongst the only basalt and granite extrusions on Shamwari. A truly magical setting awaits! This is a flexible experience for guests to explore Shamwari Private Game Reserve as we believe that the rigidity of travel needs to be simplified by going back to basics.
