I was made to feel so welcome from the minute I arrived. Great bike tour, amazing lunch
Great place in a safe area in Soweto, close to the tourist street. Lungi and Cynthia are welcoming and friendly and the bike tour was really interesting. We could use the kitchen to prepare our own food and we had a great evening by the fire chatting with locals who stopped by for a beer. The shower with hot water and sufficient pressure was great. Don’t expect luxury here, but you will get an authentic experience if you stay a night or two.
We booked a twin but ended up with a double room out back. In itself not a big deal, but the foam mattress in our room was terribly uncomfortable with a hole in the middle where you both keep rolling into. Ask for a room inside the house - they seemed to have (much) better mattresses.
Vilakazi street -Mandela House, eateries (20 mins) and Hector Pieterson Memorial (10 mins) were walking distance. Lots of souvenirs near Hector Pierson at reasonable prices-haggling required. Walking around the neighbourhood seemed nice-just keep your wits about yourself. Few malls nearby (Uber) to get things you need. Nice outdoors porch area if you would want to stay in. A fireplace if it gets cold too. Neighbourhood kids play outside in the evenings and are comfortable w tourists.
The property required all payments to be made by cash including the tours provided. We couldnt lock our room from the outside but our things were untouched even when we had been away overnight. The bathroom had no lock; only a curtain and a sliding door. The owners said it was understood that someone was inside if they were closed. We didnt find this comforting as outsiders were free to come in and out of the compound for repair works etc.
Hospitality, friendly, authentiek, warm welcome, helpful with all our questions
Lungi and Cynthia have a great place. The tour of Soweto was fantastic. The garden is great to relax in the morning and evening.
