Clean, mostly comfortable...I have a bad back so I am always a little bit to a lot uncomfortable after hotel beds. This was better than most. Had issues with computers in business center and response from staff was slow.
Convenient location, excellent staff Dated facility with worn furniture; over priced for the offering
Guest services were very friendly and helpful. The room was very nice. Clean, quiet, comfortable bed and pillows. Had a coffee maker, microwave and fridge. Also had a nice business room. The workout room was small and stuffy.
The lady at the desk was very friendly and helpful. Nothing
Location was good, but not great. Very nice room. Comfortable! Expensive for what you got.
The swimming pool. The swimming pool too small.
Love the beds and the whole room was nice. Breakfast was supposed to start at 6:30. Breakfast was always late. The poor broken armed boy that was handling the breakfast was worthless as a one armed boy can be.
Great location. Friendly and helpful staff.
Our stay at the Strater Hotel was very nice. We wanted a taste of the The West, and we certainly got it. I felt like I was staying in Miss Kitty's room! Great location. The only thing I can say is I wish there were better pillows.
Enjoyed our stay at the Strater Hotel. Ideal location in downtown Durango! Our room was clean and comfortable.
Hotel is in a good location. There are some great restaurants and shops in the area. There was no bellman available or bell cart available to help with our bags when we arrived. The furniture was dusty, wallpaper was starting to peal off the walls and ceiling. Thermostat was locked and we were not able to turn on the heater in the room. There was black mold in the grout on the floor. Ate in the restaurant/bar on property, food lacked flavor and was very greasy and not well prepared. On check out the elevator was not working so we had to haul our bags down three flights of stairs. My mom has had two knee surgeries and had some discomfort after the ordeal. Would not recommend this hotel.
The location is nice, only a block from downtown The beds are a out as comfortable as a pile of gravel. Literally the only time I have seriously considered sleeping in the car as a better nights sleep.
The location was great. I was 2 blocks away from the heart of downtown. Rooms and beds were nice and clean.
Location was good. Beds were good. Near river. Very bad sound from exterior walkways. Could hear everything from people outside like the window or door was open even though closed.
Right up by the river, awesome stay second year in a row. Easy walk to downtown. Right at top of stairs; lots of noisy people that can't carry a suitcase down the stairs and instead slam it all the way down. Some barking dogs. Otherwise great!
Very nice staff A bit noisy - make sure to have a white noise app on your phone in case there are late-night gatherings outside your room!
Proximity to good restaurants and the river path.
Great location. Walking distance to downtown and Silverton train. Half hour drive to Mesa verde
Room was very clean!! Location is great Gentlemen that checked us in very rude!! Hotel a bit overpriced for the room they put us in!!
It is dog friendly. The food was expensive and not good.
Nice indoor pool and hottub. At every hotel we stayed at in a nine day road trip this hotel did not offer a free breakfast such as the one Hampton Inn does.
Enjoyed my visit. The hotel, staff, location and amenities were top notch.
Good Location. In Durango, is there is not a bad location. No plain coffee creamer for shitty coffee.
The room was generally clean and everything worked fine, except the bathroom window. I had to go outside to push on it to make it lock from the inside. The 'breakfast' was coffee and packaged pastries. The room was also a bit loud due to thin doors/walls.
We needed a place to stay because of weather and the price was super reasonable. Room was updated and clean. Got there late and staff had left key for me. We would stay again.
Easy in and out, not a dump by any means, trolley stop right in front, ice machine worked and even though our room was right on the main street it was not noisy. Got up to pee at 2:30 and there were deer walking down the sidewalk. No complaints
The relaxed atmosphere . A great location, sure it's an older style motor lodge but we got to know our neighbors and their dogs. The beds had just been replaced in our room and were very comfortable. This may seem odd, the box fan in the room was a pleasant surprise, my partner prefers the sound of a fan to go to sleep, the weather was nice and cool so there was no need for the AC anyway. IN the end a relaxing and peaceful place to stay a night or two. Very basic breakfast, coffee and rolls, but there are plenty of local coffee houses very nearby to enjoy.
Good location. Small rooms. Older building in need of updating.
Room was clean. One of the cheapest rooms in Durango. Very friendly staff, and pretty close to downtown. Room small and dated. Mattress like sleeping on a concrete slab. Toilet seat wrong size for toilet. Lights flickered and power plugs not reliable.
Nothing The hotel had a rating of 3 stars. False it was a basic roadside motel. Stains in carpet / sheets, garbage was overrun with racoons. cigarette butts outside room. The person checking us in was very nice but even site said breakfast. This was as stated by person stuff we could get at 7/11 of packaged donuts and coffee.
Suggestions from front desk about where to eat Nothing
Relatively nice hotel for the money in this town. They have coffee and prepackaged rolls in the lobby in the morning but seem to run out before 9 am. Fairly close to downtown and right next to a trolley stop!! We like that there is a fan and space heater in each room. Pretty outdated rooms. Shoddy carpet with holes. Getting anything 'extra' like blankets is like pulling an arm around there. Beds are like cardboard. The front desk staff person also dropped a F bomb in front of my 10 year old daughter which I was not pleased with. Definitely a ONE STAR hotel.
well sized room, large fridge, dining table, central location hot water did not work first night. bathroom window on groundfloor, facing street, was not blinded nor did it have curtains. people could look right inside. worst was the hotel manager. he was extremely rude and intimidating about hot water issue. room cleaning was sloppy. coffe and donuts were not available in the morning . its a cheap room, but would not go there again. it was just too annoying.
Great place to come to, near everything in town. Staff was friendly. Breakfeast, bagged scrambled eggs.
Exceptional staff and a very pleasant stay.
Room was good size with space for everything. Breakfast was pretty decent with better seating situation than most hotel breakfast areas. Staff was very, very good and easy to deal with. They were all on the ball. A good place to stay1
We had a trailer and the hotel parking couldn't accomodate onsite so we had to park offsite in the side street
Rooms seem fairly updated, good breakfast, and pleasant staff. A little overpriced but I understand that it was a big traveling weekend. The parking lot is definitely not big enough for when the hotel gets full. The parking is really tight and if you get in late it fills up and you got to park in the street. I must say though that I felt safer from getting dinged by doors by having my suv parked on the street .
I appreciated how clean the rooms were, and how polite the staff was. I would have liked a more comfortable bed.
Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast provided. Close to grocery store. Pool is too small to swim laps.
The room was spacious and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable.
The Hampton Inn Durango was conviently located to downtown Durango. It had a nice indoor pool and hot tub that was a favorite of my daughter. The hot breakfast was also a plus. Bathroom counterspace was limited.
We could not leave Durango because of a rare snowstorm and the staff easily extended our stay and made our "captivity" easy to bear. The rooms were lovely and the price was right which made the extra day less of a burden
Nice rooms that were modern. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. We had a front desk clerk who recommended the best Mexican restaurants in town and the ones to avoid. Don't leave any clothes hanging on the hook on the bathroom door. You're bound to forget about it when it's time to check out.
This property is very well maintained. It is immaculate, the staff is friendly and helpful. Enjoy a worry free trip here
The room was updated and clean The room location view was terrible but only there 1 night.
Hotel staff were very pleasant and hotel was nicely modern and clean. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again. No gym on site but gives free pass to rec center. Liked the coffee, hot chocolate, and cookies in the lobby. Good value and good for families headed up to the slopes!
All of the staff were extremely friendly. The hotel was pretty much full but there was plenty of parking and the hotel was quiet. There was plenty of seating for the free breakfast and they had different items out on different days so it didn't get boring, and compared to other similar type hotels, the food was better. The room was very clean and updated. Plenty of outlets to plug in all our phones, ipads, etc... I'd stay here again. The pool is salt-water, which is nice, but was a bit cloudy. Kids didn't mind it though. The hotel is on the north end of durango, not really within walking distance of any shops or dining. Beds were a bit firm for my taste but my wife said it was the best bed she slept on this trip. No excercise facilities on site but they give you a pass to a rec center. I didn't go so I don't know how far of a drive away it is.
Fresh cookie in the lobby. Where the toilet paper was mounted in the bathroom.
The room itself was super clean and nice, I don't get to stay in hotels this nice often so that was fun. There is one good taco/burrito spot to eat nearby, but otherwise the location is pretty barren. Internet was too slow to be useable. Couldn't even load heavy webpages or open email with images in it. Opened a speed test and download rate never got above 500Kbps, up below 80Kbps with a ton of packet loss and latency. The SNR was fine so it wasn't wifi reception, just a really crappy network in the hotel or terrible ISP I think. I'm guessing most people going to Durango are embarking on an outdoor adventure of some sort, and hotel internet speed isn't a huge deal to them. But I work in tech and had to jump online to deal with problems a couple times, and had to flee the hotel to try and find somewhere with useable internet instead it was so terribly slow. This wasn't super fun at 2am, and they charged me $5 a day for this horrible internet, so I think it's worth griping about. Again most people are on vacation and probably won't care (hey maybe it's good if the kids stop watching youtube for the weekend :), but if you need to get online AT ALL you should avoid this hotel.
A very pleasant comfy and restfull halt after a long journey trip. An experience which make us looking forward other hotels of that chain.
I was impressed with this hotel. Very clean and organized from staff to the smallest details. Breakfast was great with a large selection of choices to eat. Beds were very comfortable. In truth, there is nothing I can complain about regarding the hotel, rooms, staff, or anything of REAL concern. The only negative was that the hotel was a little removed from downtown Durango.
Enjoyed our stay. At the Rio grande inn.. Was late getting to happy hour but we were served. Nice location to downtown Durango walking distance to everything.
Breakfast was great and the staff was very nice. Loud people at the pool late at night.
Great staff, within walking distance of everything awesome.
Room was clean, old time feel, good room luxuries. Could have used a mini fridge in the room. Great location for the train and all the shops and restaurants in town. No breakfast, or should I say super Small breakfast. Saw granola and yogurt and cereal, saddest hotel breakfast I've had in a long time.
Old time feel and a great location No window? No A/C, meant for a hot stuffy room.
We had a nice, clean and spacious room here. They served a great hot breakfast. The staff was very courteous and attentive, they took care of everything we asked for or needed. We would definitely stay again. The pool and hot tub stayed very crowded with noisy kids, so we did not use it.
The room was great with the loft area upstairs. We got the room so we could come with our 2 kids (we decided not to bring them) which would have been perfect! Price was awesome for the "2 bedroom" size. Free continental breakfast is always nice. Nothing special, but they have what you need. Extended stay guests. Recently heard that the hotel also started renting monthly. This should stop, hopefully when the hotel is sold as it is for sale currently. Needs updating: carpet, fixtures, art, paint, etc. But still kept up pretty well.
refrigerator , microwave, large quarters, free breakfast Place is slightly in disrepair
The location and outside scenery The shower wouldn't drain, the "clean" sheets had someone's hair on them, the towels and the carpet had stains
Our room was clean. Beds were comfy. Above all it was QUIET. I didn't hear a sound all night. My kids enjoyed watching the train go by and loved the small splash pool. Bathroom/sink area could use some updates. Upstairs was a little warm
We're repeat visitors and just enjoy everything about the hotel. The breakfast in the morning is fantastic and the staff who serve it is super friendly! The cruiser bikes that are available to guests are very convenient to zip around town. All of the stores, restaurants, bars, etc. are very close so no need for a car, which is huge. The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are spotless. You are definitely made to feel welcome there. We look forward to our next visit!
The location was great and the room was pretty clean other than the spider and his web that we shared it with. The woman who checked us in was very nice. The shower didn't have enough water trickling out to wash the shampoo out to my hair. The towels were old and smelled sour. The man who worked the office the next day was rude. For the price we paid I expected more. very disappointed.
Very friendly staff
No plug in for coffee pot. Stool back up . It showed a pool and hot tub there wasn't one.
This was one of the dirtiest, dumpiest, motels we have ever stayed in. The pictures on their website do not let nothing like what you get. Nothing worked including the staff. Filthy room
The location was great and with a lawn, swing for the kids and picnic area. Perfect for our family. No safety lock on doors. Otherwise, loved the place.
kitchen was nice, beds were very comfortableplace was clean Bad smell in beginning, believe room was cleaned then had to air out,was o.k. after 2nd day, probably due to carpet cleaning.Heater thermostat was not functioning correctly
The bed was fairly comfortable and the couch was cute. Fire hazard, trip hazards, crappy rundown, poor service, stingy, run-down, poor lighting. A law suit waiting to happen. TV too far away to be of any use. Poor layout. Very dangerous flight of stairs. I could go on and on. Totally not worth the money. JOKE

Location, cost. No.
Good value. Furnishings somewhat older

I liked that this was a small family-based motel which was very helpful and friendly, great to see it still around despite all the bigger organisations. Good luck to them. Recommend staying here. Lovely hand painted art work on the room walls too! Not really, there is a 20min walk to Downtown Durango. I enjoy the walk along the river, this may not be to everyone's taste.
Staff were friendly Dirty floors, drafty door
The bed was nice & firm, the TV had basic cable, nice mini refrigerator & microwave, clean facilities (for the most part), location was very nice, good heating/AC & hot water, good price & nice staff. Over all very good place! I DEFINITELY reccommend it! Not enough outlets to plug things in, AC takes a while to cool down the room, was charged $10 additional to regular price for an extra day.
Cozy, clean and comfortable. Right off the main hwy. A good place for a basic room, new bed and flat screen. Bank machine and restaurants within walking distance.
Nothing People sleeping in the halls, the room smelled like mold, the staff was unknowledgeable about the surroundings, the appearance of the room was not what was shown on the pictures. Massive misrepresentation. The room smelled so bad we left and stayed at another hotel.
Hotel was located close to down town and next to the river. My kids loved the view. The hotel had a slight moldy smell. Was clean but very outdated. The worst part of our stay was that there was no hot water. We had to take freezing cold showers since we could not wait for them to resolve the issue.
Desk staff helpful. Wifi unuseable for speed. Noisy neighbors. Poor value for nightly rate. This town is expensive, but surely a $40 hotel should still be a $40 hotel and not an $80 hotel?
The satff was very rude! There was supposed to be a heated pool and when i when to say that the water was cold the guy just said that it should be fine. He didnt even turn to look at me. The rooms smell really bad! I almost used my bottle of perfume so that it would smell so horrible.
Location perfect for getting to and from downtown Durango and for heading off to north to Silverton. Beds were comfortable, room was clean and there was surprisingly little noise. The wifi was free and fast.
Pet-friendly rooms available (be sure to reserve one of these if you need one). Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Clean, modern room. Location was nice as it was near restaurants and is right along the river, but it was a bit of a ways from most attractions (had to drive to downtown).
