This was a great option for budget travellers. We stayed in a double room with a shared bathroom. Everything was clean, there was info available on things to see and do (we went down to the pub quiz at the local brewery and ate delicious fish and chips from the nearby food van so thanks to the friendly staff for the recommendations) and most importantly it was located right by the Skerwink Trail. This is a backpackers so we didn't have - nor did we expect - a huge room and ensuite, but this was a comfy and friendly place to rest and be up bright and early for hiking.
The complimentary breakfast was great and had many options, the ear plugs were a nice touch in the dorm room too. The Skerwink Trail is a few minutes walk down the road and well worth it! It was a great home base to explore the peninsula and I felt at home during my stay.
Plenty of bathrooms, good equipment in kitchen, recycling, plenty of useful information about the area, warm and welcoming host, good communication.
To have a quieter room as ours had two bathrooms next door and you could hear toilets flushing and people in shower through the walls and it was at the top of the stairs so all noise from kitchen and below was heard.
Here's how it is: the Skerwink Hostel is a straight-up magical place. I've stayed in many hostels around the world and I think this was the cleanest, the friendliest, and the homiest. I often find it hard to socialize but Skerwink feels like your grandma's house and everyone gathers on the main floor to chat and eat together. I made new friends during my stay and I only wish I could have stayed longer. PLUS: it's close to a huge variety of breathtaking trails and some of the best whale-watching in Newfoundland!
Great location, a few meters from an amazing trail (even better at sunrise!). The individual room was very nice a spacious, very clean with the bathroom. Many great tourism and hiking books were available in the living room :)
This charming, rural hostel is located in Trinity East, Newfoundland. Linen is provided in each brightly furnished room at Skerwink Hostel. There are 3 shared bathrooms on-site. Guests have access to the communal kitchen and lounge areas. The Skerwink hiking trail is 300 metres from the hostel. Skerwink Hostel is within 15 minutes' drive of the historic town of Trinity, The Rising Tide Theatre and Sea of Whales whale watching tours.
