My husband and I looked forward to a good breakfast, and from the first to the final day of our stay at the Atelier the spread was awesome. Handmade compotes, tea, excellent bread and coffee. As to the location and accommodations, we had a little walk uphill, and once there, we were given the entire second floor. Our view looked out on beautiful mountains and vineyards, and last but not least, we could see the local river, and ancient churches. Our walk downhill to the famous Roman ruins and a well restored theater & museum took about 20 minutes.
Nothing could have been better. This was our second visit to Vaison- La- Romaine, and we were happy to see that a new museum was opened recently, as well as a path to climb a hill and enter the theater from above. We are already planning a third trip. One thing that travelers to France should be known: I recommend that you learn a few courtesies and phrases in French language. It is much easier to make friends if you have gracious things to say.
We loved our wonderful hosts Monique and Maurice who could not have made us feel more welcome. Their Villa is in the most picturesque part of medieval Vaison la Romaine. We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace overlooking the town, countryside and distant mountains each morning. They made us feel part of the life of the town. What an exceptional experience.
There was nothing not to like about our stay.
Monique was such a lovely host, and her home was very comfortable. When we arrived in town, she volunteered to show us where to park and then drove us and our luggage to her home. Our upstairs apartment had everything we needed--a separate little room for our 5 y/o and a large bedroom with A/C for us (thank goodness, as it was HOT). The view from our room was spectacular. Breakfast was simple but filling and delicious--eggs, toast, jams. She made hot milk for Evelyn each morning for chocolat chaud, which was a big hit.
Not really a drawback but just something for folks to know is that you do have to walk through the home to get to the apartment upstairs--we were a bit late coming in one night and felt badly about potentially waking our hosts.
monique and Maurice were lovely hosts. Thank you for taking care of us. The apartment is so lovely. Very remote, up high in the old Ville. Monique helped us park and shuttled our bags up to the house. Nice shower, good mattress. Wonderful to be able to talk to french hosts, working on our French.
The hosts were a wonderful couple, and were happy to let us entertain friends on their beautiful deck.
