The host was amazing. He provided suggestions for places to visit, maps, and directions. He even brought us popsicles and drove us in his personal car to an amazing onsen.
It was a very different experience staying in a yurt. The host was very helpful and even gave us a lift into town several times to the supermarket and dropped us off and picked us up from dinner as buses were limited. He uses google translate so you can communicate really easily.
The island is fairly remote so not many buses and they finish early. Which means it’s hard to get our for dinner at night without relying on the host to drive you. Although we did a supermarket dinner one night and the host helped us cook in their kitchen.
This was one of the most memorable travelling experiences I've had - ever. The yurt is huge (there were only two of us so we had lots of space), hot water was always provided, the location is quite close to the road but that means there's a bus stop close to the house. Bought the "free" bus pass that allows you to travel on (almost) all local buses on Yakushima, good value for money. Good location if you're interested in seeing Jomonsugi, Kigensugi, experiencing the onsen next to the sea (and sometimes under it), the various waterfalls or the Harutahama Beach (tropical fishes, sea urchins, corals in tide pools, turtles!). Relaxing, unique and fun place! ...but really, the spiders were monsters. Try walking around after dark and have a headlamp on you. All those small glittering eyes - spiders.
........bugs. Spiders. It's not the hostels fault, but if you get the creeps from bugs then consider not walking around after sunset.
The host Mi-kun was really very helpful and friendly. He would even drive me to the restaurant since the bus schedule ends early.
The accommodation is different to what I have stayed in before and gives you the feeling of being camping. The owner is wonderful and probably one of the best hosts I have stayed with. He drove me around the Anbo area showing me some beautiful waterfalls and scenic views. A very kind person.
This accommodation is a little out of Anbo which is fine, I rented a bicycle and was able to cycle there in a bout 15 minutes. If you have a lot of luggage I do not recommend walking there. Renting a car or using the bus is your best option.
Located in Yakushima, this campground is a 3-minute drive from Anbo River and 6 minutes from Yakusugi Nature Museum. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and microwave in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
