Pros: Best bread in japan. Service beyond great.
Cons: Nothing.
6.7 Good
Pros: Spacious and luxurious bathroom. Independent and quiet accommodation.
Cons: Full French dinner course was less than I expected..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The whole experience of staying at Sankara was amazing, from the warm welcome to their kind goodbye. We did not want to leave! The facilities, food, and especially the staff exceeded our expectations at every step. We celebrated our 10 year anniversary and they made us feel very special the whole time. The staff was incredibly helpful with hiking advice and we had the best meal we have ever had upstairs for the upgraded dinner. Our stay here was definitely a highlight of our trip to Japan!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place, amazing location, but most importantly amazing staff. It is expensive, but you could not ask for more.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything else: the staff was incredibly thoughtful and focused in making this experience unforgettable. The rooms were perfect and the breakfast was very good and riched. We fully recommend this hotel.
Cons: The hotel was a bit far from the main activities on the highlands. There are no restaurants at walking distance. Therefore you need to rent a car either by your own or directly to the hotel (which can quickly become expensive). Also the options for reasonably-priced food are very limited in the hotel, so you can feel sometimes a bit pressured to overpay your meals.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Excellent food esp the tasting menu. Beautiful location and hotel. Excellent service and staff
Cons: Rooms could use a little touch up. A bit dated
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing hotel, peaceful and luxurious
Cons: Nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property owner, Yuki was so wonderful and helpful. She helped me purchase my ferry tickets, organized a rental car to pick me up from the port, and gave amazing suggestions about things to do on the island (there's so much to see). The food offered here was also amazing (my friend and I ate breakfast here and also got the homemade bentos for our afternoon hikes), and the room was so cute and comfortable. It was like staying at a cozy family cottage. Will definitely come back if I get another chance to go to Yakushima.
Cons: I liked everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host was very kind and food was delicious. We felt like family
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Yuki was very nice and helpful, she was informative and gave you appropriate advice on your trip, the pension was very comfortable and stylish, and the food was delicious
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yuki was absolutely an amazing host! The rooms were clean and bathroom was fresh. Nice breakfast and launch (fair price). Above all the wonderful host- so caring and kind. She made it extra special
Cons: .
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Cute bed and breakfast- only a few rooms so no problem sharing bathroom. Owner so nice and helpful!! Open air ‘wild’ onsen very close. Walking distance from izakayas for nighttime eating so the driver could also have a beer! Food at the hotel was also really delicious!!
Cons: Nothing much. That I couldn’t sit upright in the bottom bunk bed..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a fantastic host Yuki is - she went above and beyond before we even arrived to book our car and arrange dinner for the first night. When we arrived, she helped us to plan our time in Yakushima and has an incredible knowledge of the area and what was achievable to see given the amount of time we were there. The room and bathrooms were comfortable and clean, and the area is just stunning. We would love to return here.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is super clean and comfortable. Yuki is the best host that anyone can ask for, she is so kind and caring, helped us a lot! I highly recommend!
Cons: Everything was perfect
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had an awesome time, especially Yuki is a great host, she cares a lot and is lovely. We have taken all evening the sashimi plate, by far the best choice we made.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We can not praise the accommodation highly enough: 100% clean rooms and bathrooms, great recommendations by Yuki about destinations on Yakushima and delicious food for breakfast, lunch and afternoon. If you plan a lot activities during the day get the japanese lunch wraped in Bamboo leaf. Really awesome destination to stay at!
Cons: There was nothing to dislike!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yuki was helpful to the point of being beyond reproach. She arranged our ferry to the island, made a reservation for a rental car, helped us pick it hikes to do during the day, just overall a lovely person. She made us tasty breakfast sandwiches every morning, and we chose to have dinner there a couple of the nights we stayed. Those meals ended up being the best we had on the island. Not only is she a great cook, the owner goes and catches the fish fresh every morning. She also went out of her way and made me special meals because I'm gluten intolerant. She took the time to find gluten free alternative ingredients for the meals she knew she'd be making me. It was one of the most thoughtful and pleasant stays I've ever had in any country. I would recommend the pension to anyone and we're hoping that we can visit again someday.
Cons: I really don't have any negative feedback.

Cons: nothing
9.7 Excellent
Pros: The owners could not have been friendlier or more welcoming for our one night stay. Though there was a bit of a language barrier (they don't speak much English) they got us situated right away, drove us to the bus office to buy a bus pass, and recommended an excellent sashimi restaurant within walking distance. Our room had an excellent view over the Ambk river and my mom and I slept like logs to the sound of lapping water. Divine! It was nice being right in town and would definitely go back if we return to Yakushima. Also I highly recommend springing for the Japanese style breakfast in the morning. It's a great deal at 500 yen.
Cons: Since the bathroom is shared (we didn't know that) there is some noise from other occupants coming and going down the hall at night. Not a big deal though and part of the program with a b&b style house.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host is very friendly and nice! The breakfast is very delicious! The room is clean and tidy.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: River view in front of the house is spectacular! It is a beautiful house in and out. We enjoyed our stay. The host is very kind, preparing eggs for us since we had to leave earlier and skip breakfast. Also she did a great favor to us, sending a taxi to pick us at Arakawa when otherwise we had to wait for more than 4 hours for the bus and we just finished our overnight hike and we ran out of food and we were wet as hell.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful local pension run by very caring and attentive owners. Delicious breakfast. I should have included dinner with my reservation. But the owner drove me to a very good restaurant and picked me up so I could enjoy alcoholic beverages with my meal.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nao-san and her husband are the best hosts in the world! Their kindness is enormous. The breakfast is delicious, the house is beautiful.Relatively close there are two very beautiful onsen and several waterfalls to see, impressive. But the best of all, Nao -san behaved very well with us, we organized the routes we wanted to do, we picked up the car when we arrived, they took us to buy the supermarket, the onsen and a waterfall ... incredible!
Cons: Perhaps it is that we are more accustomed to softer beds, but the mattress felt very hard. The location of the hotel is far away if you move by public transport and you lose a lot of time moving, ideally if you want to stay in Sora-mame rent a car.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast and good dinner. Preparing the rice dumplings when we go to Shiratani Unsui. Drive us to JR Hot spring, while we come back from hiking.
Cons: none
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It was clean, owners were nice and attentive, modern, and fully handicapped accessible. Very nice place to stay.
Cons: It's far from both major forest attractions. The beds are just mats on wood slats, not mattresses. Uncomfortable if you are from the west.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Taketo and his wife were wonderful hosts and made sure our stay was extremely pleasant. The dinner provided was one of the most memorable meals of our five week, country wide trip.
Cons: It's a little far out of town, but this is also part of its charm so not a negative for everybody. Taketo was also wonderful at helping with advice regarding bus stops and made the process of booking a car super easy (which is essential to really experience this amazing island.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nicoichi is a perfect homestay for travellers. The service and help from the host is thoughtful and totally beyond expectation. All my families and friends are satisfied with the arrangements suggested by the host. Next time when we back to Yakushima Island, we'll definitly choose Nicoichi again.

Pros: Nice house, semi-traditional, big rooms.

Pros: easy, casual and coffee was good
Cons: I liked everything
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nee-san is kind and would help with many things.
Cons: The old-style toilet
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This hostel is such a sweet place. It's conveniently located by the airport, halfway to Miyanoura and Anbo so hikes can be reached easily in both directions. It has a very homey feeling and the owner is very very kind and supportive. She helps to plan you trip and answers all your weird questions about the island. She even puts your name next to the bed which makes it feel like more of a home then a simple hostel. I found it a very nice touch. The hostel has an outdoor kitchen which makes the stay feel like you are camping (you can put up your tent there as well). I really loved it. There is enough space for multiple portable stoves so many people can cook their dinner and chat. It's really fun.
Cons: Nothing in particular. However, maybe it's useful to some to know that the beds and the living space are technically in the same area of the house, meaning that it can be very noisy. If you want to sleep until late that's unlikely to happen. You rise and go to bed with the others. Earplugs are a must. There is only one bath and toilet, but the owner has an effective system regarding the bath time and turns. The toilet is a bio one, but doesn't smell.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, very friendly and cosy place. The host was super nice and caring. Helped me with my planning trips and all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing place and people ! Everything was perfect !
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing hospitality. Yakushima wouldn’t be the same if I haven’t stayed in Tomarigi. I really enjoy the friendly atmosphere and the owner is amazing. She took really good care of me since I was super unprepared for trekking and she helped me plan out my days there to get the best experience possible. I would definitely come back if I was in Yakushima again.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Tomarigi is a cozy place and the owner, ane-san, makes it even better. Try her onigiri, you won’t regret!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had such a fantastic stay at this property. The owner is so lovely and was always eager to help us plan for our stay in Yakushima. We had a rental car so I can’t vouch for public transport myself, but it’s close to the airport and I believe there’s a bus stop around the corner, so it seems pretty well connected. Food-wise there was a nice restaurant a two minute walk away as well as a large Mori ‘drugstore’, which also sells food and microwave meals if you want to eat on the cheap during your stay! However, I would recommend you take up the owner’s offer of home made onigiri if you’re hiking, they were huge and delicious! Also, try the local oranges. One google review of this place said there wasn’t WiFi - but there was WiFi when we stayed. Just make sure to brush up on your Japanese before you go :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is SUPER friendly and makes you feel instantly at home, and part of the family. We had the chance to taste freshly caught delicious fish, and all the advices were pertinent. Go there just for the hospitality !
Yakushima Deaf Farm Guesthouse - Yakushima - Building

9.3 Excellent (75 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Yakushima Deaf Farm Guesthouse in Yakushima, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Snake's Mouth Waterfall and Toroki Falls. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Quiet rural accommodation, in the end of a side road Ocean view from the room Owners willing to help Efficient heating in the room Help in renting a bicycle
Cons: Getting around is complicated – bus goes once in 1-1,5 hours, but only until about 6 p.m. No hot meal provided (nearest place for hot food is 700 m away) Hostess does not speak English (but was eager to communicate in written via translation application) Nowhere to sit in the room; I took Japanese bathing bench from the bathroom to sit in the room
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The breakfasts were delicious and interesting...I highly recommend them. The owners were friendly and accessible for questions. They were willing to make phone calls for us to make reservations or check to see if the park was open. We liked that the rooms had a kitchen. It was a family friendly place and worked well for our group.
Cons: I wished that the room's kitchens had basic food supplies such as salt and oil. There was some confusion about the price of the breakfasts, but eventually we sorted it out.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Owners are incredibly nice and helpful. I skipped meals but the rooms were spacious, clean, and easy. It's only a few rooms so not a hostel by any means. Very quiet except for this weird island wide speakerphone that goes off in the morning (never figured out what it was). Close to the low tide onsen (35min walk, shorter drive) which was the coolest thing I've ever done.
Cons: Nothing, wish I could have stayed longer.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The place is wonderfully equipped, the family so nice, and don't get me started on the breakfast. It was super delicious!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Set away from the towns, you will need to take a bus or arrange transport to get to it, but it’s absolutely worth it. It’s a nice 40 min walk to the Hirauchi Kaichu Onsen, a hot spring on the edge of the sea. You can get to hiking spots by early morning bus, so you have time to enjoy nature. There was a small kitchen so I could prepare evening food, but I highly recommend requesting breakfast - it’s worth it, the meal meant I wasn’t hungry while hiking and each day there is a delicious smoothie to enjoy. My hosts were kind and friendly, and I’d be glad to stay again if I make it back to Yakushima :)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Our hostess was extremely responsive to our questions before our trip and kept us updated on the flooding situation in Yakushima. We also loved our spacious room and the free laundry! At the end of our stay, we were gifted some delicious green tea cookies.
Cons: There is not much to say other than that the location is a bit far away from all the restaurants and shops. However, we knew this coming in and planned early dinners so it wasn't a big problem. They also offer breakfast and dinner if you book ahead of time.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: My stay here was a highlight of my visit to Yakushima. The owners have a warm heart and are very open to foreign visitors. I was glad I added breakfast and dinner to my stay. The cooking included local specialties (with some fruits grown by the owners) and delicious smoothies in the morning. The location is quiet and relaxing, surrounded by vegetation and with a view of the ocean.
Cons: The only downside is that it's a long bus ride from the Miyanoura port.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Host is very kind and friendly!!! I love washing machine and amenities in the hotel We go to the forest all day everyday but we have clean clothes wear every day. The hotel close to Onoaida Onsen. That’s the best onsen in Yakushima Island for me. Must try! Even you have tattoo! I really recommend this hotel. It’s too good for couples or family I will back again!
Cons: Quite far from Anbo port but easy to go by car.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice location in Yakushima, lovely owners with great care and attention.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely, welcoming and kind staff. I really enjoyed spending my final night chatting to them. It is close to the Hirauchi beach onsen, so it was very convenient to go there even after sunset. The room has everything you need and is great value for money.
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Very friendly staff. They are very helpful and cheerful. Will certainly visit there again.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were upgraded to a private room, which was great. It was wide and comfortable. The staff was very nice and helped with everything we needed. The breakfast served from 7 to 8 was vwry tasty and varied.
Cons: The onsen was a little bit small, since it was already crowded with three people in it, but that is the only thing I would slightly complain about.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Bus station is outside the house, very close. And staff has a magical laugh.
Cons: WIFI is not good
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Naru was amazing! He kindly booked for our restaurant for the night. They have a dry room for hikers which was a plus.
Cons: Our room smells moldy + the tatami smell which I'm not used to. The ac is not working very well, as it takes a long time for the room to feel cold air.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The owners are really kind and the bath is comfortable and really hot
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very communal, family run business. Little personal touches in and around the hostel. Things to read, rent and use in the communal area. Although shared toilets and bathroom, Japanese style and extremely well kept and clean. Bedroom was tatami style, equipped with heating/ air con, table, tissues, bin and a tv. Sink also in the room. Very clean Very helpful family, always willing to offer information and also provide lunch boxes for hikers(it was super tasty), very kind to give us a lift to the bus stop to go to shiratani ravine area (5 mins down the road) which is half an hour away and when we left also offered to drive us to the port (7mins away) he even waited until we were sure we knew where we were going! Nearby are supermarkets either direction, restaurants tend to open around 5/6pm, there’s a very nice one down the road about 5 mins walk to the left of the hostel. Loved staying here, although not hotel style but certainly the most memorable and pleasant stay as everyone was so nice and accommodating.
Cons: No curtain to block out light in the window at the top of the room (cannot reach either)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The accommodation is just absolutely recommendable! Nice staff which made everything to make us feel welcome.. super tasty breakfast and lunchboxes they made for our hike. You can rent hiking shoes and coats there for a good price. Also they have us nice recommendations where to have dinner. You can also wash your clothes there and coffee and tee are for free. A big supermarket is close and also the bus station is directly in the front. Thank you very much for everything!
Cons: The only thing (which isn’t really remarkable) is that the WiFi is sometimes not so strong ... but this is criticism on a high level!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely host! Very convenient location
7.1 Good
Pros: I loved the breakfast which was a traditional Japanese style and the Japanese bath was great. The staff were friendly and helpful-we got driven to the bus stop early in the morning.
Cons: I thought the room had a funny smell, it was a bit stuffy. The location was slightly further out than expected (about 15 minute walk to the town) which was not bad but something to consider if you don't like walking.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Super nice hosts! They help with everything. The little onsen is very refreshing after a rainy day on the mountain. We recommend the lunch bento boxes they offer for hikes.

Pros: Good location in Miyanoura. Helpful staff: they collected me from the pier, and ordered + delivered a bento box for my hike. Comfy, spacious room in the annex with a nice view of the mountains. Well-equipped kitchen for cooking your own meals.
Cons: Relatively early check-out time.

Pros: Very well situated, in center town, next to a bus stop (down the hotel, stop 24, if I remind), it is so from there easy to travel inside the island (airport, Anbo, Somon Suji, etc). The hotel is simple, the view on the surrounding nice. The staff really informative, they give a little map with the local supermarkets and restaurant.

Pros: The view, just wow

Overview Reviews
Located in Yakushima, this cottage is by the sea, within a 15-minute drive of Yaku Shrine and Yakusugi Nature Museum. Featured amenities include multilingual staff and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It has all the amenities of a small home, even cooking is allowed! There are 3 marts/drugstores in proximity and close to a bus stop. The best part about the place was the host, Mr Taiichi. He went above and beyond what a normal host would do. When my ferry to Yakushima was late, he recommended things to do around the port. When we had to go to the Anbo port early for our trip back to Kagoshima, he gave us a ride! Truly impressed!
Cons: Nothing much really.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Walking distance to the airport, but super quiet. Surrounded by the nature with magnificent view of ocean and mountains. You can enjoy the breakfast in the lovely garden while hearing birds singing. The room is modern, cozy, spacious, and with nice smell of wood. You'll see full sky of stars at night in a clear day. The best part is the cute, easy-going, super helpful couple owners. They really gave us a lot of advice before and during the stay. Highlight for the English speakers: Taiichi-san (the owner) speaks perfect English.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Taiichi, the host can speak English and he is super nice. On arrival as he found out that we were vegetarian, he insisted on bringing us to this place by car to have a typical vegetarian organic bento box for lunch. That was delicious! He also gave us some good tips on the place and brought us by car to the post office to withdraw some cash as on the island there are e very few places where you can pay by card. Taiichi is amazing! The accommodation itself is awesome as it has everything you need for a few nights stay and it is in a great location, just 15 minutes walk from the airport (2 bus stops) and 5 minutes walk from the bus stop number 47. Near the cottage is also possible to find 2 drugstores/supermarkets and near the airport there is the information centre were they talk English and you can find out about all the info's regarding the walks in Yakushima and purchase the pass for the bus (highly recommended).
Cons: The main problem I would say is that the only possible payment at the accommodation is in cash so you need to be ready for it. However, in all the island of Yakushima is difficult to find a place where you can pay by card.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: - Really friendly hosts - nice wooden room/house - quite peaceful place - lots of information about the island provided - host helped us with seaturtle watch booking and car rental - yakushima really is a wonderful place to visit if you like nature!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Cosy cottage and the warm hospitality of Owner
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Takashi and Keiko were incredibly accommodating. They had a very thorough guide as to the facilities of the cottage as well as transportation and things to do around the island. They respected our privacy also. They gave us good tips on places to go and the best way to get to them. The cottage itself was very comfortable. The bathroom had hot water and we used the kitchen every night! No complaints! Highly recommended!!
Cons: Everything was perfectly prepared for us. No complaints!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Was a great place to stay. Spacious, clean, had kitchen facilities, a beautiful garden and view to enjoy, really cannot fault this property. The hosts are lovely and very helpful. Well worth staying here as it is also in a great location halfway between the two big towns.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was an absolutely ideal location for our brief stay - close to the airport and the town of Miyanoura. The cottage was beautifully maintained, immaculately clean, and thoroughly comfortable. We had the model host - kind, courteous, informative, and generous. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. The Orange House cottage was one of the many features of Yakushima that made our trip magical. Thank you!

Cons: Don’t forget to bring your towel! Also, it is pretty isolated (no restaurant open in the city when i arrived, and the konbini close early). However you have all the food you need at the house (instant ramen, breakfast...)

Pros: The location is picturesque and the people who stay are really friendly. The owner is also very willing to help and give advice. The place is nice and clean.
Cons: If you don't have a car, it is a bit difficult to get to the guesthouse. Sometimes, bugs would get inside the building and gather around the shower/sink area.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It was very clean and cozy
Cons: The owner was a bit stubborn and sometimes he didn’t understand what we said.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just the best hostel i have ever had in my life! It is located far from the center, but... You will enjoy real nature. Everything is 10 out of 10!!!

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Traditional Japanese Home. We had a really nice stay. The hosts are super friendly! The food is absolutely delicions. Make sure you eat dinner aswell as breakfast. It’s really not expensive and you get authentic japanese food. Dinner is not every day though, so check in advance.
Cons: Hosts don‘t speak english, unfortunately we didn‘t speak japanese either, so communication was not easy, but worked nontheless! We didn’t have a car, so the location was is not very convenient but ok if you’re flexible.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: One of the most authentic Japanese experiences I've had ever. Great local food, nice host, cozy decoration. The package is just superb given that I also went to other minshuku with good ratings and this one is just a little bit better in every single aspect.
Cons: Google Translate doesn't do all the job. The location was a bit off from major attractions. I might have been able to catch the last flight should the host notify me all foiljets and ferries were cancelled.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The accomodation is run by a very committed and friendly, charming and helpful family; japanese meals are extraordinarily good; we met only japanese fellow travellers; friendly atmosphere

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The place is so delightfully old world. Hiromi, the host, has paid a lot of attention to detail to make the stay comfortable. It is an opportunity to experience an authentic, old style Japanese house ...incredibly 130 years old. Spotlessly clean. Excellent location nestled into the local neighbourhood and yet just a couple of minutes to the beach. The hot tub is a real experience. Fun too! There is also a shower for the less adventurous. We loved having the spacious lounge to relax in. Having a sound system with a fabulous collection of jazz topped off a perfect evening. We had an amazing Japanese breakfast ..a wide range of dishes including flying fish ...she is such a talented cook. We got a bento to take with us for lunch and my only regret now was that we didn’t plan on dinner too.
Cons: Loved everything. Even the rustic ‘ long drop' toilet.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The description of the place perfectly fit the reality, so i knew what i signed for. The house itself is pretty interesting and authentic. You hae everything you need. If you worry about toilet - don't. There is no smell whatsoever, and it is clean to walk barefoot. The best experience was dinner, which the host makes for guests. It's outstandingly tasty and beautiful. So highly recommended!
Cons: As is mentioned in the house description, in case you can't rent a car, the location is a bit uncomfortable. However, having the bus time table you can plan your trip without big problems. In addition, it was nice to see the island from the bus window as well.
7.5 Good
Pros: The honesty on the website about what to expect at this accommodation is true as this is an older traditional style house, is definitely very basic but kept clean with a hidden secret in the small café at the bottom. The location is great, short walk to the beach and a wonder around the village is well worthwhile, makes it a great spot to relax in this beautiful island. Public transport is limited so having a car made it easy to get to all tourist spots outside of the village. Our hostess Hironi also runs the café utilising her beautiful organic garden as the basis of her menu, her cooking skills are second to none and we had two AMAZING meals at a VERY reasonable prices. After enjoying a delicious lunch in the café finished off with the best chocolate matcha cake I have ever had, we immediately booked for dinner. On arrival for dinner we were overwhelmed at the beautiful table setting laid out with an entree followed by a five course meal of local organic foods as well as local speciality flying fish. Everything was so fresh with delicate flavours and beautifully presented. We felt like we were in a 5 star restaurant.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place. Beautiful old house, very tastefully decorated, minimalist aesthetics, silence, close to nature. Beauty in the simple things. Delicious homemade dinners and breakfasts. Perfect place to unwind. Thank you.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It was a lovely place. Although simple, really clean, and quiet. The hot bath was traditional with mint inside, and the water heat by the sunshine. Hiromi was really nice and cooks very good local food.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: I must say that we were very lucky, because we were the only travelers in there at the time, so we’ve got not the room, but the whole house for ourselves. It is a nice small house in the middle of a little village, surrounded by nature and with the atmosphere of a cottage. It is furnished with everything you need and furthemore there is a mirror studio downstairs, with radio set up and good music. Very quite place, just few minutes from the beach, were it is possible to see the turtles during the night. We can imagine staying there for a much longer time.
Cons: Just the transportation is very limited to the place. But as long as you won’t go there in the late evening/ during the night, there’s nothing negative I can say about the place.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location (a few mins walk from the bus stop and from the stunning beach as well); the old Japanese style settings; the politeness of the host, Hirumi is very considerate despite the matter with the language (she even got me a wee delicious lunch bag!)
Cons: Not the typical hostel with kitchen facilities, in case you’re looking for that
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I had a very lovely stay in Nagata! On the first night, I had ordered dinner, which was amazing!! The host prepared Kaiseki-styled cooking from home-grown seasonal vegetables. It was so pretty and yummy!!! I also had breakfast, which included her homemade bread and jam. I loved the food! I also met a kind British couple, which made traveling on my own a lot less lonely. We all were invited to have dinner with Ms Fujieda and her kids. That was a lot of fun, too! I’m so sorry I made you worry and wait for me... Nagata is a very cute little town, and people there are super helpful. A nice elderly lady even gifted me lots of local Tankan fruits when we were waiting for the bus! As the house is very old, so are some of the facilities, but that’s to be expected. The host also did a good job of explaining everything. Because I was here on some rainy February days, there was no hot water in the shower. But showering cold to enter the hot bath made it worth it, and it was just sooo good after a long hike!! And while it got a bit cold in the night, there was a Kotetsu to warm up!
Cons: As in fact everywhere on the island, it’s much easier to get around by car. I went to Shiratani Unsuikyo on my second day by bus, and while getting there was very convenient, getting back to Nagata took me a long time, because I had to wait for almost two hours in Miyanoura to change buses. It’s probably better in the summer though, when buses run more frequently.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great traditional style accommodation, with a good old fashioned Japanese bath. Exceptionally helpful host and was always willing to go beyond the necessary to make our stay as comfortable as possible in the midst of a typhoon.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The old house was very beautiful. Nice situation in the countryside, and the owner was so kind and helpful for us. I would advise this true countryside japanese house for those who want a quiet trip in Yakushima.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: You know from the drive up to the hotel that you are arriving to something special. I will keep it short - we had an excellent 3 night stay at this resort hotel. The staff were extremely attentive to our every needs - the chef whipped us up with delicious vegetarian meals that were pictures (we did not stop taking pictures of the dishes we were served). We asked for directions for a recommended site on the Island - the following morning we were given a satellite picture of the site with exact directions. Just a few examples. The Hotel grounds are beautiful and do not miss the waterfall about a 20 minute walk. The bedroom was very lovely with comfy beds, linens, towels - modern, light and clean. The view (either side is amazing). Dining room is very nice and so is the spa , lobby and other public areas. Nice farewell from the staff to end this lovely memorable stay.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good and peaceful environment
Cons: Remote from city
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Super helpful staff, very efficient! Onsen is very good, room very comfortable. The hotel has a huge, beautiful park. The bus that goes around the island stops at the entrance of hotel, very convenient. For early trekking, they can replace breakfast with a packed breakfast+ bento lunch. We could rent electric bikes for a nice ride along the coast.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A very comfortable hotel.
Cons: It is very clean. The room is big and comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place in Yakushima.
