The location is a few minutes walk from the landing port, if you travel by boat from Dar es salaam, then you dont need a taxi. The staff were kind to us, and had a personal touch on the rooms and breakfast. We took evening strolls to the stone town gardens with our 2 year old son who was happy to walk to and fro.
We had to arrange our own porter to carry our bags from the landing port to the hotel.
The staff was very welcoming and friendly, especially Gertrude. Although I had things arranged before travelling they were willing to assist with organising tours and transport.
The hostel itself needs a little bit of paint, well maybe not a little. I was the only guest at the time and I found the hostel to be very creepy at night. I had breakfast only 1/3days and although it was delicious, hygiene is not taken very serious.
Quiet; interesting, old building.
Conveniently located near the port. I was allowed to check out late for the midday ferry which was great. A member of the hotel staff carried my extra bags to the ferry for me. The wifi was better than the 5 other hotels I have stayed in in Zanzibar. The bed was super comfy. Everything worked. The actress and fan chilled the room quickly. The shower was powerful and the bathroom was large. A lovely old hotel near some great restaurants and cheap fast food.
Perhaps a splash of paint to freshen it up and a splash of true Zanzibar colour.
We really enjoyed the stay. The staff was really helpful, always smiling. The breakfast was very good, rich and refreshing. We really liked that they provided us with bottled water, so you don't have to look for supermarkets to buy it when you run out.
