staff at desk good...bus stop close....rest soso....reception area & breakfast area new,modern.... the remodel was not finished,in our opinion.....there was NO furniture in the room-1 chair,2 lawnchairs from the deck......constant diesel engine noise from the harbor.....food/breakfast was horrible...seemed recycled from before.....poor choices......no real restaurants there-one restaurant in the bottom floor sort of a sports bar, food average to bad.... none in the area....only greasy spoons...locals........seedy neighborhood...my wife felt unsafe, with apparent illegal migrants & sailors from freighters hanging around all over.....in groups.....felt unsafe....no shopping in the area...just little grungy markets.....the hotel seemsout of place iin that neighborhood....shower doors almost fell out, stuck&water leaked on floor despite being new....loght almost nonexistent in room...could not read it was so dim...4 channels on
The hotel would have been fine - if it was a 3-star hotel. However, dinner at the Tiki Restaurant was fantastic. The bed was terribly uncomfortable, and service was mediocre - we waited over 30 minutes for our drinks from the poolside service. The buffet breakfast was included in our room price, but it was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. At the price, this is not a hotel i could recommend.
Nice pool They charge you every little thing such as business center without telling me that they have the charge for business center (right after I went to the business center to print my boarding pass they were trying to charge me for 5 euro plus paper) and they claimed that ice bucket was missing after we left hotel and flew back to New York. They charge us for that which we have never seen while we stayed there. They told us that they have inventory list before people come in but who steals the ice bucket? If we need one we don't take the used one. For me this was not the pleasant stay. I had to deal with the bill for the amenities which we had never had. I thought this is 5 star hotel but I would rather stayed 3 star hotel and didn't have to deal with all the burden after I left. Never stay here again.
Fantastic pool area with restaurant and bars. Wonderful service throughout the holiday.
Phenomenal harbour and sea view, excellent facilities (impressive location of the swimming pool and private beach for the hotel guests), good level room services, useful location within the city, comfortable and quiet rooms, and attentive and friendly staff. For a five-star I found it very surprising to find my minibar empty.
Friendly, helpful staff with exactly the right balance of attitude - not stiff and formal, not too familiar. No complaints.
Perfect hotel. Special thanks to Nadine from front desk for patience and availability, without her we could have not rented a car.
Beautiful Hotel with a great location, nice swimming pool and a nice selections of restaurants. Room had a terrible view and the carpet had some stains on it.
How friendly and attentive the hotel staff were.
Proximity to bus terminal. Nice swimming pool. Very good restaurant. We had a nice stay in this hotel.
We liked everything - room, food, swimming pool, service
The location was good and the Spa was excellent. The staff were a little arrogant at times. I put this down to the hotel trying to maintain 5 star status.
Everything, an extremely well run hotel, nothing was too much trouble for the friendly and attentive staff
The combination of the old, traditional style and feeling with the beautifully refurbished facilities; very warm and helpful personnel The elevator nearest our room (4 floors up) was out of order at times. The cost of the breakfasts seemed very high
Perfect location. Very close to the bus terminal. Breakfast wasn't included.
A warm welcome when one arrives and a comfortable room. Excellent sevice always. Nothing
The barman in the Club Bar, was excellent and the hotel majestic.
Excellent localisation, confort, calm Rooms are a bit small
Amazing place, great staff, highly recommended Might be slightly noisy
Yet another slightly shabby once-grande old dame to join the ranks of the nouveaux-pauvres. Overall, reasonable value for money, though certainly not 5-star quality. Perhaps 3-4 star. Items most in need of improvement - bedroom furniture (looks like Lady Stickland's origninal inventory is still in place, and rather the worse for wear) and the main restaurant - I've seen better standards in hospital canteens !! Still, beneath the "fading drapes and peeling paint" lurks some residual old world charm, which would not require a king's ransom to restore it to a semblance of its former glory. And should this happen one day, I would recommend a different interior designer - even the renovated rooms are gaudy rather than tasteful. See above. Connie Francis and Patsy Kline blaring from the adjacent bus terminal.
Very much, excellent value for money Staff a bit rough
This is a grand old place to stay. Right next to the bus station & the old city of Valletta. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room clean and had a great view over the harbour. The large gardens and pool are great for relaxing. Free wifi available in the bar area. Best to avoid the food at the bistro. You can get better meals in Valletta.
Swimming pool was excellent, food was very good. Staff at the reseption: very slow and not friendly. Hotel is old and a bit wornout.
Location was good. Basically no claim.
Friendly staff, location, price Very small room.
It has a good location and staff are very helful. The shower was too small
Central location, pleasant staff, comfortable room for the price, good bathroom facilities cleaned & towels changed every day. Buffer dinners
Valetta has huge potential for gentrification and this hotel is leading the way. Attractively renovated with tastefully decorated and bright common areas and rooms. Many of the staff (especially the 2 older male front desk clerks) were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was hot and tasty. The view from our room over the city and harbour was outstanding. And the location, within easy walking distance of all of Valetta along with the City Gate bus depot, was very convenient. We were glad that we did not stay in one of the ugly modern parts of Malta. The bathroom, while large, had not been renovated, and had a poorly-functioning toilet and dated towels and shower curtain. As elsewhere in Malta, we were struck by how unfriendly certain staff were, especially the young female front desk clerk (who acted like a completely different person when young men she knew came in) and the housekeeping staff. We also had an ugly argument at midnight with the taxi driver the hotel sent to retrieve us from the airport, related to paying for a non-functional baby seat that was not supposed to cost extra. And one should be prepared for the hotel's payment system- whole stay paid immediately upon arrival, deposit needed for the TV remote, and small fee paid to use the room safe.
The staff were friendly and the bed was comfortable. It was in a very convenient location for me. The hotel was fairly dirty. The air-conditioning in my room was broken and so was the telephone. The walls are incredibly thin so I could hear everything going on in the rooms around me when I was trying to sleep.
The hotel is quiet cheap considering the quality (jacuzzi and swimming pool, nice view, ...) and considering the prices of other hotels in Valetta. A hotel we would recommend. The swimming pool is somewhat crowded.
easy access to city The cleaning staff was very noisy each morning (before 9 am !!!)
The location, very central. Shops, Bus station & many old monuments to explore. The decor of the Hotel had old world charm. More tourist info/publications would be helpful. Available info was limited, especially in English.
Closeness to valletta centre The staff in this hotel were the most un-enthusiastic people I have ever seen na d made it seem like everything for you was a big chore. I specifically asked for a double bed and was not given one I asked at reception and was made to feel like an in-convenience. Advertised as full english breakfast this is not true. Targetted to germans not english
Location. Female front staff service was so poor...she did not assist when I needed to use internet and more...
Well located and excellent value for off season rate Could do with a refurb - listed as 4 star in reality 3 star
Lobby Late night noise - and wake up call did not come as requested.
Central location and friendly staff. The rooms are in need of redecoration. On the second day the lift did not work.
the most thing i liked about the hotel is its location which is close to the cafes and the shoping area the size of the room,it is very small.the AC was not cooling
Location is really very good. I don´t know how other people and their experiences, but this is NOT 4star rated hotel...
The staff was really kind none
Nothing about the Hotel. Maybe the location Dirty room. Smell of smoke from cigaretts all the time. Aircon not working. The room looked nothing like the pictures. Smelly beds. I stayed in a lot of hotels around the world. And this for sure cant be a 4 star hotel maybe 2star. I booked a 4 star hotel with booking.com two weeks ago in Valencia that was exellent.
poor air-con, this has been an issue for the past three years!
Hotel was located in tourist area. Nice resturants nearby. Hotel breakfast was good and inexpensive. A bit noisey in the mornings (believe some renovation work was underway). Air conditioning inside room was weak.
Good price, value for money. A/c was a blessing after walking around in heat all day. Location was good, close to busses and tours, shopping/eating. Tv didn't work well.
The location was okay and the view from the rooftop was nice. The hotel is not clean at all and you have to pay for every service, in the offer I booked the wifi was for free but when we arrived there we had to pay for the wifi. Also we ordered a plate and a fork for the room and we had to pay 2 euros for that! It was really not a nice experience at all.
The actual building was fantastic - we didn't realise it was a converted palazzo so that was a very nice surprise and we loved our room with its split level and view of St John''s square The staff seemed to lack experience in dealing with hotel reservations and their attitude could have been mistaken for bad manners rather than inexperience.
Great location, excellent staff, good restaurant
The owner of the hotel was really nice, helped to solve all the problems. I strongly recommend for everyone to ask for the pick up from the airport for 15 euros. The location is in the central of Valletta, near beautiful st. Johns cathedral. The restaurant staff was really awful. They are unpolite, and don't pay the attention to hotel guests, because the breakfast is included in the room price and they don't get tips. After the first day waited for the waiterss to come for more than 5 minutes, despite the restaurant was not crowded.
My need were well catered for, including late occupancy for late flight departure. No difficulties to report
the location is quite centric and the reception staff was very polite and helpful.
View from 7th floor sea view room, and terrace at breakfast, of harbour and Valletta.
Very convenient location. Toilet was basic but clean. The rooms are old, and there was no non-smoking rooms (there was a furniture/smoke smell in the room, but still tolerable). TV quality is poor. Have to be very careful with remote control (one wrong button and it's pay-tv).
location, room with the balcony, close to public transport and eateries room below breakfast area very noisy, smell in bathroom,
The location was perfect. Step out the front door and you are on the waterfront, 5 minutes from the ferry, and water excursions.
Good value, good location, comfortable in room heating didn't work, staff couldn't answer a question about where the nearest gym was, the room was very noisy at night because of a very noisy fan or dryer type device in the next room.
Good location Noisy sea view room/Poor shower facility/Very poor breakfast selection
The hotel is in an ideal position to visit Valletta and for seeing Sliema. Our room (612) had an excellent view over the harbour. It was in a quiet area but only a few mins away from the busy nightlife. There is a bus stop almost right outside in either direction from the hotel. We were in the 6th floor extension and the pressure in the shower was not strong enough to rinse soap out of my hair, which is thick. There was a cotton bud under the bed when we arrived and it was still there when we left, there were also hairs in the bath plug. Breakfast was not that interesting but at the price of the room was not expecting much anyway.
Good location. Easy access to all nice breakfast rooftop Extremely noisy. Uncomfortable. Unwelcoming
The room was very big with also the kitchen corner, table, sofa, but furniture is quite modest. The cleanliness in general was fair, towels and sheet seemed not washed carefully. The remote control and the TV commands didn't work.
Convenient location. Friendly staff. Very poor breakfast - very limited range, and same every day. Very noisy fan in bathroom which couldn't be switched off.
The hotel had a good location close to some nice restaurants and shops. It was quite central so easy to get to Valetta and St Julian's. The hotel had a nice position looking over Silema harbour but unfortunately we didn't have a room with a view. Our room had no natural light as the window was small and looked out into the centre of the hotel. There was no balcony which we wouldn't have minded if there had been better facilities at the hotel. The roof terrace on the 8th floor was small although it did have some sun beds. The jacuzzi was tiny and looked dirty so no one used it that we saw of. Our actual room was quite basic. There appeared to be some kind of leak at the end of one of the beds which the hotel staff covered by pulling the bed out further. I also noticed that one of our bed sheets was dirty and had to ask the cleaner to change it.
