10.0 Excellent
Pros: The ability to see wildlife from our porch and walking around the property.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The facilities and rooms were immaculate. The property and pools were maintained great and everything was cleaned with a strong attention to detail. It is quiet and beautiful with a great opportunity to see wildlife. Accommodations were better than expected. The owner and staff were great and very knowledgeable of the area.
Cons: Possibly more variety in the breakfast menu.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was excellent place. Monkeys, Parrots, People, Place all was wonderfull. And of course the restaurant very near Elkes Kitchen the food was so good that we have not words. This is the place where you can come again. Perfect. This was best area in our 3 weeks holiday (2 weeks in Costa Rica)
Cons: There was no such things
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lodge Margouillat is truly authentic and amazing! Rooms are clean and have a lovely decoration with great amenities. We felt welcome the first minute until the very end! I highly recommend it to anyone. Thomas and Amber are really doing everything they can to improve your stay.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We loved the tranquility and the relaxing ambience, peaceful and friendly. Our accommodation was very comfortable and the shower was great; There was a choice of two swimming pools near to our bungalow and quite often we were the only people using them! Thomas and his wife Amber were very kind and friendly and go out of their way to make you feel very welcome. We would definitely stay there again .

Fidelito Ranch & Lodge - Tambor - Building
2
9.4 Excellent (119 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Paquera, Fidelito Ranch & Lodge is within a 15-minute drive of Los Delfines Golf & Country Club and Romelia Wildlife Refuge. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Bridget and Leon were great hosts and spent a lot of time helping us find things to do in the area and giving us a history of the place. The food was good and we enjoyed the horse ride. It was a great place to relax after a long day exploring the beaches, forests and snorkeling! It is off the beaten path, which was one of our favorite things about it. I wish we would have stayed longer!
Cons: The only issue we had was that one of the mattresses in our room was very firm, and I sleep on a firm mattress! Also, I would book the bungalow which is separate from the other 2 rooms to have a little more privacy and quiet.
6.7 Good
Pros: It was a very nice setting.
Cons: Nothing in particular, but it is a ranch in the middle of the mountain, not a hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Enjoy sounds of nature. Listen to story's of Brigitte and Leon who speak many different languages. I guess I just got a quick peak. A/C is available and a fan provided as well as a fridge. Beds are very comforting and breakfast available from 6am. We enjoyed it so much we extended our stay twice and paid cash. A pool for kids provides a few over hills around the place.
Cons: The fact we had to leave was very sad
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The experience the kids had while living on a rancho, and the open and welcoming owners
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Extra friendly and helpful owners.
7.1 Good
Pros: There was a large room and large kitchen to cook.
Cons: Sheets and towels were dated and could be refreshed. The lack of privacy and a negative vibe. We felt watched and controlled. We felt rushed for check-out which is at 11 but we were rushed out of the property by 830 as the owners had an appointment.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The ranch sits in a calm and relaxing area not far away from Tambor by car. The house was big enough to accommodate 8 people, it was clean and had all necessary appliances to cook. We really enjoyed our stay.
Cons: The wifi was down at the time due to public construction/renovation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: PURA VIDA!!!! Relaxing, peaceful, genuine hosts and their dogs are the best! Best time on my trip (or in the past 20 years) was horseback riding with Leon and the dogs frolicking the whole way just made me smile and forget the outside world. If you are looking for a serene authentic experience, this is it.
Cons: Nada
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Little B&B at the private Farm, were the only guests stand enjoyed being exposed to the nature! The hosts are lovely (Dutch and German) and prepare a welcome Drink and a breakfast for you, in wanted. It is very isolated and you have some bumpy road drive up there (we had it all over the places during our trip), but enjoyed this private secluded place and waking up with nature and animals around us. Good value for money!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Really good place and good location to visit the peninsula. Brigitte and Leon are very nice people always looking to give you good advice to enjoy your holidays.

3.3 Mediocre
Pros: The beach the hotel was on was beautiful and the pool area was lovely.
Cons: I generally like to find the positive in the places we stay and I usually do that easily. I'm not one for posting negative reviews or complaining but we had high hopes for Tango Mar and were horribly disappointed. Firstly, we had to move rooms 3 times! The first room had a broken door that wouldn't lock and the fly screen was broken so we couldn't leave the door open overnight, which was a real problem on the first night when the electricity went off, with no generator thus no air con. So we had to boil in a closed up room all night. The electricity only came on the next afternoon. Also the balcony of the first room was totally flooded, so we couldn't go out there. We were also kept up all night by cockroaches, ants and a few spiders in the room. The next day we asked to move rooms and the second room was a little better until the night time when the cockroaches came out again after hours of trying to stalk and capture cockroaches to release outdoors, we asked to move again. They moved us to another room and we were so tired by then that we slept a few hours there but decided we couldn't bare another night there so left 3 nights early. We understand that this is the tropics and we were right next to jungle and there are going to be bugs but we have stayed in 3 other resorts in Costa Rica on this trip, as we've been moving around, and none of them have had such terrible cockroach problems. On one of the mornings my husband took my son to the bathrooms near the dining area and they found a crab that had been squashed by one of the doors and just left there, who knows for how long. There was squashed crab all over the door frame and the floor. As well as this, the staff did not seem at all happy and that unhappiness was felt throughout the resort. It felt almost like they resented having guests there. When we told them we were leaving early and explained why they didn't even apologize for any of it.
5.4 Okay
Pros: The view
Cons: The hotel likes to a five star hotel, which I don’t think and feel they can live up to.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was great, rooms and facility were beautiful, food was great and beach was heaven
Cons: There was nothing here to not love
9.2 Excellent

Pros: The location is gorgeous. Small & intimate. Quiet. Very accommodating staff. Food was great.
Cons: Really, nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect secluded location. Outstanding beauty of the Pacific Ocean and view from the bungalow.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location, food, and service
Cons: No towels on arrival. Shower drain clogged, told staff at front desk but was not fixed.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charming 7 bedroom hotel with lovely staff, a nice breakfast and a cold pool. Secure off-road parking, good aircon and comfortable rooms. Attracts an older clientele.
Cons: I would have preferred a normal sized pillow. They provide both a very high and a flat pillow.
6.3 Good
Pros: There was a fridge that we could use, which is very handy! There was a supermarket right across the street. There was music at the pool. When you asked for something, the staff did it immediately.
Cons: They were cooking a lot outside, but never offered if we wanted something. We would have paid for this, because there weren't many restaurants in town... If they opened the kitchen for their guest or offered a paid meal, it would've been a lot easier. To us, this was kind of rude.. All the ATM's in the neighbourhood were out of service, and we had to pay cash. So we had to drive quite some time just to get some money to pay the hotel.. VISA or Mastercard should be a standard option, if you ask that amount of money ... The bed was awful, and loud. You're not allowed to put your toilet paper in the toilet, but they did not clean the garbage unless you asked them to. So after 1 day it really starts to smell... Even if you don't clean the room, you should REALLY clean the trash can...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a very pleasant stay at this comfortable House. The breakfast was awesome!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Located on a nice and quiet street with a supermarket in front. And a great restaurant with all kinds of delicious mails. The swimming pool was nice and cool! And the atmosfeer relaxing. Great place to come back to.
Barceló Tambor - Tambor - Building
5
8.9 Excellent (4,002 reviews)
Overview Reviews
The Barceló Tambor (5-star) hotel, refurbished in December 2012, is located in Tambor Beach, Costa Rica. The hotel is unique because of its stunning natural location that faces a gorgeous beach on the coast of the Pacific Ocean.
7.1 Good
Cons: All inclusive means that and at the bar is not, they want me to pay for a not expensive alcoholic drink and at the reception they said one thing in the beginning and later another story, very disappointing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything!!!!
5.0 Okay
Pros: Great wildlife..
Cons: We got to the room, to find no coffee for the machines, light bulbs had gone, safe didn’t work, plugs in the bathroom didn’t work.. Plus it was 12$ a day for WiFi!! Every other hotel it was free... even in the taxi’s...
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The beach front and hotel grounds were impeccable.
Cons: Even in low season it was packed. The food was a bit bland, but not too bad. Yet not what you would expect for the cost of the visit.
7.5 Good
Pros: Clean and tidy!
Cons: It does not have claro phone network within the facilities. We had to pay for internet and we had issues connecting. Also, more variety of desserts.
7.9 Good
Pros: Food was good. Bartender Herbeth and Sergio were amazingly attentive.
Cons: Air conditioning couldn't keep up in the room. Poor water pressure in shower. Archery never opened.
7.1 Good
Pros: Food and drinks were good. The beach is kind of rough, not for kids. The shows and staff are nice.
Cons: Hotel allows people to leave stuff on the tables to "reserve" a spot for the shows, Even if the do not attend to all of them, so tables remains unoccupied for hours while some people are standing. Same happens with the beach and pool chairs. It is really unfair.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just beautiful location and the best pool we had throughout the holiday. Our hosts were warm friendly and helpful and of course spoke perfect English. They were even kind enough to give us a lift to connect with public transport as the one disadvantage was that it is a bit isolated for those without their own car. He’s getting bikes to hire which would have been good and even better if they could offer ATV hire to get around. Didn’t matter though as primarily we just wanted to chill after a busy few days travelling from place to place in this gorgeous country.
Cons: As mentioned above it felt a little isolating not having our own hire car (and being too nervous a driver to hire one) but he said he was getting push bikes delivered to hire and anyway we loved the location to just chill.

2.0 Mediocre
Cons: This was by far the worst hotel ice ever stayed at. I've stayed in hostels that were a third of the price and 10X more acceptable. It was filthy and absolutely uninhabitable. We stayed long enough to book another room and got the hell out!

Cons: The tv remote needs the button for audio in English.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We took there our biggest breakfast in Costa Rica. Not only big but also good. Huge portion of pan cake + fruits, or country breakfast , or american breakfast, all in quantity and quality. The rooms are also the biggest we have had. Really, monkeys were all around the tree tops, lots of birds.

4.2 Okay
Pros: It looks like an old “castle”. So you get the feeling of some history.
Cons: It is actually more a residential house. We got the feeling that we were given a room in a “garage “ that they made a “bungalow “. It smelled moldy as if it is not much in use... the bulbs in the bathroom didn’t work, another lamp had an a lot of dust and a spider web in it... it is more like renting out an Airbnb. The linen was very poor, fluffy bath towels. We didn’t sleep well, the mattress was also poor and the sheet is directly on top of the mattress. No mattress top no nothing. Hygiene Wise not very good I think. We didn’t see the nice couple that is mentioned in the reviews. There was only a Spanish-speaking daddy who couldn’t speak a word of Spanish. We also needed to pay upfront which was a little bit weird. For one night it is fine but don’t expect much out of it for the price you pay. One nice thing is that we saw monkeys in the tree. That was awesome. Email contact with Sonja (the owner)was also very good!!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Small, quite place, spacious, though, as the name suggest, rather "bastillo-like" rooms.
Cons: The breakfast was rather basic and the wifi literally did not work. If you stepped away the main area a little bit, dirt and garbage everywhere.
7.5 Good
Pros: Clean. Nice pool. Good breakfast. Pleasant staff. Nicely decorated.
Cons: No hot water. Few outlets. No bottled water available. Not enough light in room. No extra pillow.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The Building where the rooms are located is really nice. It looks like a watch tower and the pool is nicely integrated into that concept. The breakfast was okay.
Cons: There is plenty of stuff we did not like :/. Our room was very dusty. The bathroom had 2 spider on the ceiling of the shower but the ceiling was to high to get rid of them. The whole shower was limed. There was a huge fridge in our room but no furniture to put your clothes. The fridge was supposed to be the minibar but it was empty. Most importantly do not eat there. They claim to have a restaurant but it's only microwaved fastfood. I have never tasted such a bad burrito.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This property is a real gem and conveniently located between Tambor and Montezuma. It is a true Boutique hotel and gorgeous property. The owner is bringing her Italian touches to the typical CR food and everything from the restaurant was flavorful and prepared fresh. The rooms were comfortable & clean. This was one of the best hot showers we had in all of CR. Like many places in CR, given the terrain of the country, wifi was slow and intermittent. It is just the way it is throughout the country.
Cons: Nothing bad to say about this property. A real gem and good value! We would stay here again anytime!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stunning place, Castillo is a real castle in the jungle. The staff is friendly, the food at the restaurant onsite is amazing. The hotel is located near many beautiful beaches and one of the nices areas I've visited in Costarica, Nicoya Peninsula. I highly recommend Castillo, one of the nicest places I've ever staid. Timothy
7.9 Good
Pros: The staff were very friendly. They made sure our stay was comfortable and that we had everything we needed. We were just stopping through on our way to another place for a vacation, but they made it so our vacation began with them. It was very nice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our stay at Castillo was just great! The breakfast was very rich, we had some gallo pinto. We had dinner at the restaurant onsite, we ordered fish and it was very fresh. The place is very clean, our room was very comfortable and neat. The staff was polite and attentive. We asked for extra pillows and towels and the staff brought them right away. Castillo met and exceded our expectations, we had a great time!
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Not a lot. The pool was pretty good.
Cons: Unfriendly staff. No toilet paper on arrival. Not enough towels. No curtains. Expensive drinks. No attention to detail. The place looks good in the pictures, but in reality the owners and staff do not care about the guests and take no pride in their work.

Pros: Lovely cosy Bungalows under the trees right next to the sea, nice pool and restaurant area, really friendly owners and staff - we had a great relaxing stay there! One of our favourits in Costa Rica !

Pros: Wonderful atmosphere and directly at the sea!
Cons: We had many bugs in our first room which was really unpleasant. But when we told them, they instantly gave us a new cabin, which was perfect.

Pros: Great wooden bungalow, great people, great pool, great food - simply a wonderful place. When you book, the deposit is taken by Hotel Celaje which is the previous name of Calais Lodge so don't be surprised.

Pros: The cabinas are nice and comfortable. We had one with a view on the ocean, which was awesome. The pool is great and the owners are very friendly people. They took the whole cabinas over a few month ago and they really pushing this place forward. Had a great time there :-)
