Pros: Beautiful views and lovely people
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect for anyone who wants to rest and enioy nature. The view from the room over the mountains and the far away ocean is great. Antonio and Claudia are wonderfull hosts. Claudia baked a delicious vegan cake for my wifes birthday. Antonio entertained us with his stories. They also helped us out when we found an abandoned puppy (who is now a new family member), Antonio even planted a tree for her :) We will definitely come back. If you are looking for a good (vegan) dinner then definitely check out Elska's Kitchen (near Arrifana beach).
Cons: Nothing

Pros: Our stay at Viha do Gailo really exceeded our expectations. If you are looking for an idyllic place away from the tourist crowds, set in the tranquillity of the mountains and surrounded by friendly animals and great human energy, then there truly is no better place. You can see right away that a really good architect (as it turns out Claudia, the owner of the place) was at work, as all (!) rooms are all thoughtfully designed with headlights, opening to a beautiful own little terrace with access to the garden and views of the mountains and even the sea. The same applies to the breakfast room, which is flooded with light and where Antonio served delicious local food in the morning. If you nonetheless should feel the need to leave this picture-perfect spot, then Monchique is only a 10min drive away and there is even a small café in the village nearby that you can reach by foot. Both Antonio and Claudia made us feel perfectly at home and left us truly impressed with their life philosophy and their dedication to what they do. We would love to come back one day!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfast using local produce. Great coffee.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts, who are husband and wife, were super accommodating and friendly. We didn’t arrive until 9pm and check in was super easy. They have a complimentary light breakfast every morning, which was delicious. They even threw in some berries from their property. The rooms were neat and clean and each one faces their beautiful land that has donkeys, sheep’s, and other little friends. We rented a car and it was about an hour drive from Faro airport and a half hour drive to the beach. The road is super windy from the main road to the property, so if you get car sick make sure you’re prepared.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our room was spacious and very quiet. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was very good with homemade jam, granola, various hams & cheese, yogurt, fruit, coffee, & juice. The owners—Antonio & Claudia were wonderful! We also loved their animals! It was a lovely stay in the mountains!
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The views and the sounds from nature at all time. It was calm and easy to find. Breakfast was delicious. The building seems up to today’s standards of green construction. The large windows are well thought of. The hosts were exceptional!
Cons: Perhaps having a little bit more info in the room for recommended restaurants around or possible activities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great stay- freshly cooked eggs, nice walk down to local village. Room massive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Brand new facilities nicely designed, huge clean rooms having private rear balcony with high altitude view toward the Algarve coast. Such a nice and personalized welcoming by owners. Delicious breakfast with lots of home made products.

Pros: Very nice appartements in a quiet area with an amazing view! Everything is nicely decorated, with the special atmosphere of traditional portuguese buildings but with the amenities of modern equipments, everything seems really new. The staff and the owner were very friendly and made it a great experience staying there, thank you!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful rural spot on the mountain with views of the south coast. Lovely pool. Good internet. Friendly owners.
Cons: Very basic breakfast with no variation. Sanitary disposal facilities too simple and out of tune with scope of facilities otherwise. No wardrobe to hang cloths.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful views, peaceful environment and high quality rooms and facilities. Amazing spot for relaxing and resting in a rural location. Joao, the owner, is very welcoming and takes extra care of his guests! Very good breakfast! Stars at night are wonderful
Cons: Pretty much nothing. To be picky we would recommend including fresh orange juice and some soft music in the breakfast, but it is a minor detail. Could also be an idea to place a telescope to see the starts!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very good value for money. Beautiful peaceful setting. Car required!
Cons: As it's so rural some small staple basics such as salt/ cooking oil etc for cooking would have been helpful. Lovely comfortable room but very very dark kitchen / living room area even with all lights on.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What an amazing place! We stayed here for two nights and had an amazing time. The views are spectacular, the staff is very friendly, the breakfast (with a view) was wonderful. We used the barbecue to grill the vegetables we got from the garden, which was really nice. It's easy to say this is one of the best places I've ever stayed. When I have the chance I will definitely come back!
Cons: Everything was perfect, there was nothing we did not like. This place exceeded our expectations and we're already looking forward to our next visit. Thanks very much for your hospitality!

Pros: We had a great holiday at Quinta Idalina. Pros: We were made to feel very welcome despite arriving a little early. Wonderful hosts - they helped us with information about walks and places to eat out. We could also eat there in the evening ourselves and use the outdoor kitchen. The breakfast were fabulous. Home made granola and jams. Freshly squeezed orange juice from the garden. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Outside areas and pool and hot tub were great. We would return.
Cons: Nothing. You do need a car to get about but that was part of the attraction - lovely quiet rural area.

Casa dos Batalim - Monchique - Building
4
9.0 Excellent (120 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Casa dos Batalim is located right in the heart of Monchique village. Built in 1923, it was now fully renovated, keeping its traditional charm. From the house you can explore the whole village on foot, visiting the Nossa Senhora do Desterro Convent, the main Church, hike a marked route or swim in the free public open-air swimming pool before tasting some of the local food at the restaurants and cafés nearby. The bus stop is 50meters away and not far from the tourist office. 8km away from the house you will reach the highest point of the Algarve, Fóia which is at 902m of elevation The open-space ground floor comprises a well-equipped kitchen, a WC and a cosy living room with a fireplace for the cold days in the mountain. The double bedroom has a terrace with great views over the mountain. Free Wi-Fi in all house, TV available in all bedrooms and living room with over 150 channels, towels and linen provided, washing machine and tumble dryer, dish washer, microwave.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, privacy, reception
Cons: nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Traditional "Algarvian" family house in the historical city centre of Monchique, fully restored and beautifully furnished with a mix of period and modern furniture. Rooms are small but very confortable. Shared bathroom is small but funtional and nicely designed. House has a very nicely decorated and fully equipped kitchen and lounge area on the ground floor. All the public areas of the house, my room and the shared bathroom were immaculately clean. The house owners were very welcoming and helpful. This is a beatiful place to stay and should my travels take me back to Mochique, I will definitely stay here again!
Cons: The TV's in the rooms are far too small. They're fixed high up the wall and the angle cannot be adjusted, making it impossible to watch TV in bed. This should/could be fixed quite easily. Internet speed/signal on the top floor was a bit slow/hard to get at times - perhaps a repeater would boost the WiFi availability in the upper floor rooms. Room soundproofing is nearly zero (walls are almost paper thin) so you can hear the next room's occupants chat and whatnot, especially if they are screamers!
5.5 Okay
Pros: The view across the river on the castle and church are great, the hotel not too expensive.
Cons: Breakfast is not the best, wifi connection only available near the front desk.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, nice and central
Cons: Having to wait to be meet and let in. No wifi in the morning. Poor sound proofing between rooms.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location & super clean cute accommodation which was perfectly comfortable & had a good shower.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: No breakfast included - two nice locations at the end of the street. Accommodations pleasant and comfortable, as we were the only occupants had the place to ourselves. Not luxurious but very clean and comfortable. If one has a great deal of luggage, try to take only a carry-on to the house as it is a pedestrian only street on a hill.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I happened to be the only guest here during my 2 night stay. I loved every minute, cooking for myself, sitting in front of the cosy fire snuggled up in a blanket. Sitting in the doorway in the sunshine reading my book & painting watching the Monchique world go by. I was treated as a very special guest by the owners father who brought me to Foia & gave me a lovely gift & we sang songs together.
Cons: It's not a dislike more something quirky ... the roosters of Monchique are very vocal and some get going at 4am. It's kinda nice even tho they certainly keep you awake.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: We absolutely not recommend this apartment!! We went to Casa dos Batalim in July 2019 and had such a terrible experience. My laptop was stolen and my friend’s wallet was empty after we left the locked room for a few hours. When we came back the door of our room was open. For the safety of your own stuff, please do not stay in this accommodation!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a good time with the host who was very helpful. The beds were great, the location was great and the place had everything we needed.
7.0 Good
Pros: The small village was charming and the guest house was welcoming. We loved the small café down the street and it was a nice ride to the coast.
Cons: Get earplugs! You will be sleeping in a small village full of dogs and cocks, very cheerful! The hotel is located near a bar and customers were particularly noisy.

3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Rien
Cons: Forgot Hotel not meeting our expectations despite the high price (140 €). It is compatible for fires that are an economic disaster for the region but for the rest, it is just inadmissible. Home pro and that's it. No information on local interests (visits, restaurants ...) Cold pool, sunbeds insufficient and damaged, no external maintenance, breakfast without interest due to lack of products, anonymous departure. But that's not all, the height is the presence of a career just in front of the hotel with constant noise until the shooting. Ashamed for the asking price.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything Really. We got a very warm welcome. The rooms have amazing views from their patios. The garden and surrounding area are very peaceful, breakfasts were very good, and the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful.
Cons: It’s a little hard to find in the dark
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful setting with excellent staff, who helped us tremendously when we were hopelessly lost! A little hard to find the first time if your GPS isn't working well. Super relaxing. Great bed and wonderful room with the best views.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff, nice location of hotel in the middle of mountains, clean hotel, beautiful view
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The friendly staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room was well-furnished, bathroom modern, and the spacious balcony had a superb view. Breakfast was delicious, with a choice of eggs freshly prepared alongside the usual cold cuts, cheeses, cereals, juice, etc. Eating it outside on the terrace made it even better. The gardens and pool were lovely (having managed to avoid the recent fires which surrounded the area). Easy access (by car) to Monchique and Mount Foia. A few very good local restaurants (again car necessary). Excellent for a peaceful break.
Cons: This is not a criticism, as it's beyond the control of the property, but a car really is essential due to the location. Whilst the drive is not as tricky as some suggest, it does involve narrow country lanes, with hills and bends (hence why it's peaceful). The after-effects of the fire are visible all-round the area - obviously different scenery to usual but spectacular in their own right, and not affecting access to the property. No bar, so bring your own if you'd like a nice glass or two on the terrace - a fridge is provided in the breakfast room for storage of personal items.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic accommodation. Beautiful setting, the pool is amazing. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very clean. Thank you for a lovely stay
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect place to relax.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: An eco hotel with fantastic views and comfortable rooms. Enjoyed talking with Stephanie including about her partners ECO123 magazine, which is really informative
Cons: Couldn't manage the air conditioning combined with warm floor heating very successfully, but it probably just required practice!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful views & tranquil and the staff were very helpful
Cons: It was a long drive to the nearest Restaurant or shop and we couldn't buy milk from the guest house. The only English channel on the TV was Sky News

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owners went out of their way to make us welcome and went above and beyond our expectations. Everywhere was clean and planting was beautiful. It had a peaceful and relaxing ambience. The pool was well appointed and had ample seating area around it. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Eggs fresh from owners own hens!
Cons: We would have liked stronger internet in the rooms, but this was not a major problem as there was Internet in all public areas, including by the pool.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Loved the location as it was peaceful and relaxing, loved the animals, the owners were lovely also. The beds were lovely and comfy and the room and bathroom was very clean and cleaned everyday which was nice also.
Cons: Lovely place, people and area, was very far from anything which was at times amazing, but other times annoying if you needed to get a few things from the shop or wanted food as it was a drive and food isn't provided other than breakfast. Could do with aircon as the rooms get very warm and better lighting for Make up. Other than that lovely stay!

2.5 Mediocre
Cons: We are a young couple who stayed in mid July for 2 nights at Villa Vina. We had a very unpleasant stay. Please read our review before you book this highly overrated place. Cold water issue: We arrived around 5pm, took a shower and went for dinner. The morning after, we left early to beat the heat for a long walk. Around 1pm we came back, and after waiting in the shower for 10 minutes, we realized there was only ice-cold water. I called the owners, and they seemed like immediately know the solution (I suppose an empty gas bottle issue), but because they were far away, they could only fix it by 7pm. Because of the heat (30°C+), we we were of course very sweaty, which was very uncomfortable for the rest of the day. On top of that, we couldn't use the Jacuzzi, because of the chlorine and we could only wash with ice-cold water). Because it only could be fixed by 7pm, we were also held up to to get ready to go to the restaurant in the evening. When they came back, I explained our dissatisfaction and asked for a compensation. This was the only day we were at their b&b, and we didn't have a shower for over 24 hours. It escalated quickly once I asked for a compensation, they called us liars who just wanted "a free holiday" (for all clarity, which is not what I asked), so I had an international phone call to Booking to explain the situation to get a compensation for our unpleasant stay, but because we couldn't "prove" the water was cold (you cannot take a picture of it) they were not able to do anything. Sidenote: Because of a translation error at Booking, they thought I told Booking the Jacuzzi was not working as well, which made it of course only worse... while I stayed calm, they were both shouting at me, and at the end ridiculously even threatened us with bringing this "to the tribunal". We skipped their complementary breakfast the day after, and left early.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our hosts were so lovely and spent a lot of time offering suggestions of places to go and telling us about Portuguese culture - thanks so much!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A wonderful place for some really romantic time with your beloved one! Beautiful nature in a peaceful environment.. I loved it there! Monchique is only 4 km away and it is a lovely village to visit. The stuff of the Guest house is very friendly and Maria prepares every day a tasty breakfast with fresh herbs fusions and homemade marmalade.. We will definitely go there again in the future
9.3 Excellent
Pros: From the moment we arrived Maria made us feel welcome. With lovely little touches like infused water on arrival, to personal breakfast with local herbs and traditional dishes, to interesting local knowledge everything was really really lovely. So glad we continued with our stay despite the recent fires in the area, which whilst have changed the landscape they have certainly not detracted from its beauty
7.5 Good
Cons: May I suggest to replace the shower hook/holder so that one can shower without having to hold the head. This was needed otherwise it would fall off the hook/holder
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bedroom, bathroom and terrace in an old stone home built into the side of a mountain. Every window filled with tree views. The hosts were smart, kind and gracious. They showed us where to walk. Tasty garden herbs in all the drinks and food. Hosts were attentive and room was very private. The area had forest fires last August. There are still walks with trees, flowers and birds everywhere. A must stay!
7.0 Good

Pros: Very nice location, nice architecture and very friendly staff.
Cons: The beds are short, my tenager son (almost 1,8m) slept with his feet outside the bed. Poor sound insulation, could hear someone snoring in another room.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice garden with a properly sized pool. Nice and helpful staff.
Cons: Our room was quite small and a bit worn down but other guests told us that they are in the process of redoing their rooms. Nevertheless we enjoyed our stay very much and it was good value for money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic place to stay, very quiet neighborhood and a fantastic garden. The swimming pool is quite big and refreshing in hot summer days. Everything was very good.
7.0 Good
Pros: It was very quaint and in a quiet setting in the mountains.
Cons: The owner of the hotel was a horrible woman. She sat in the reception like a matriarch watching everything that was going on. Our little dog ran into the lobby area and she shouted at my son. When we came downstairs she was going on and on in Portuguese. She sat there all night watching and waiting to pounce. She was there again at breakfast poking her nose in when the toast burned and again talking to herself when guests left the front door open. The rooms are very old and and in big need of a makeover. The bathrooms must be 60 plus years old with old showers. Uncomfortable tiny double hard bed. Dinner was so so but the waiter was lovely and very helpful. This hotel could be a perfect Gem if money was spent on it and run by someone else. She is doing herself and her business no favours
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely, peaceful location. Friendly, helpful staff. Good food. Swimming pool was bliss on a hot day!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Dad (59) and Daughter (25). If all you want from the Algarve is sun and sand, there is lots of choice. But we wanted to experience something that felt Portuguese. And this was perfect. A small hotel which felt very welcoming and very much of Portugal. Lovely staff (with enough English), great local food, perfect setting. Would return in a heartbeat.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is in the middle of a natural park. We had a double room with balcony. We spent a relaxing afternoon in the swimming pool. The dinner was excellent and at reasonable prices. Genuine and fresh seafood and even cheesecake was superb. Staff friendly and polite. I recommend it highly.

Pros: The location was great, the apartment was like a time capsule ( very 80's/vintage)
Cons: We liked everything
8.3 Excellent

Cons: There is nothing I didn’t like
Casa da Paz - Monchique - Building
10
9.3 Excellent (12 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Casa da Paz is a beautiful rural cottage resting on top of a South facing valley of Monchique. It was the pioneer in rural and eco tourism as the first accomodation of its kind in Monchique and possibly the Algarve! It was set up by the famous Herbalist and Authoress Zelia Sakai back in 1980. Although now a private residence, the owners are renting out one self contained private guest house which is annexed to the main house. This precious location offers tranquility and peace as it is surrounded by springs of natural water and mountain streams, hence the name ( The House of Peace ) This is the ideal place for a peaceful stay to unwind and forget about everyday stress with endless paths to walk in the relaxing hillsides where you can get to know about Monchique's incredible flora and fauna, bird watching and wildlife. Although situated so privately, the centre of Monchique is only an 8 minute drive away to where there are many ammenities, shops and restaurants where one can experience the local lifestyle and adventure around the picturesque town. There are breathtaking viewpoints travelling out of Monchique up the windy roads of the 'Foia' where you can find many quaint restaurants serving Portugal's famous Chicken Piri Piri and local dishes whilst enjoying the magnificent views.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Most magical, peaceful place I have ever been. The Hosts make everthing to make you feel at home and even more than that! Can not do more than highly highly highly recommend this Place!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Casa da Paz is a unique place, a real hidden oasis in the mountains but close (by car) to the ocean and beautiful beaches. The region suffered a lot due to huge August fires but it is absolutely worth visiting now as you can 1) support the locals and 2) see the nature fighting back which is really touching. Our room was beautifully designed, well equipped and Cristina and Thomas are wonderful hosts - kind, caring, supernice and helpful. PS Splash pool is awesome too!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Casa de Paz is situated in a beautiful location with lovely views of the mountains. It is a long way from any roads which makes for total peace and quiet. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable. Thomas and Cristina were lovely hosts and made us very welcome. We had a lovely holiday and would not hesitate to return.

Pros: Everything
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The building is old but very beautiful, nice pool, great view, very nice area to do yoga, excellent breakfast, very nice staff
Cons: Lack of privacy: the door opens to the main corridor and you can hear almost everything
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The gardens were lovely and gave a really relaxing atmosphere Room very comfortable and efforts made to reduce waste were made. Parking inside gates of property is off the road
Cons: It is a little tricky to find (once in the town don’t let google maps direct you out of town and around a windy steep road like it did to me. If so turn back and start again from the main road into the town) Drive to the town is fine and once in the town lots of small windy cobble stone roads so easier to have a small car! No reception as such but just called he mobile phone number on the door and met lovely friendly lady who showed me around. Yoga retreat was running while I was there so didn’t use the yoga facilities. Main house has breakfast area and access to a fridge for food. Pool looked nice just a little too rainy when I was there. Lovely gardens in centre of town (house is in the town just a short stroll down the cobble streets).
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Extremely friendly staff
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast and dinner and all the fruit trees. Not too busy.
Cons: The bed... But I think that's just personal choice. My back was a bit sore
7.5 Good
Pros: Great space, great location. Friendly people. Sadly the weather wasn’t great when we were staying but can imagine in summer it’s quite amazing with the pool and yoga studio outside. All in all we still had a good time during our short stay.
Cons: Internet wasn’t great. But that may have been because of the storm. No real complaints.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very fascinating place to stay and friendly service.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The peace and quiet you will find here is amazing. Eco friendly and one with nature. Sporty hiking or an indulging rest at the pool. For everyone something to do! The staff are motivated and driven young spirits!!
Cons: /
8.3 Excellent
Cons: The outside could do with some TLC and be prepared to be adressed in Germain by fellow guests.
6.3 Good
Pros: The over all atmosphere was great! Staff was extremely helpul and friendly
Cons: We had to get used to the "non-luxury" of our own fridge, terrace etc.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The reception was friendly, as in many rural areas. They were helpful in meeting dietary needs. The cafe across the road was delightful.
6.3 Good
Pros: The surroundings and location was perfect. Very beautiful. Kitchen, terrace and living room was good and had everything nessecary available.
Cons: The bedroom was very small to store your luggage etc. Also the bed was very tiny and not comfortable for two persons. Difficult to sleep also because they appearantly had a dog chained outside who had to bark every time during the evening night just next to the room..!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Once we had made contact Manuella was delightful and couldn't do enough for us. We couldn't speak any Portuguese and she couldn't speak English, but we got along great with the help of a translator on her laptop. There is a separate kitchen come sitting room with a log burning stove which was very charming and cosy. View of the sunset from our balcony over the hills was also lovely. It feels a bit basic & rustic, but it's a converted small family farmhouse and that's the charm of the place. Altogether a lovely & memorable nights stopover. It looks disappointing from the roadside, but charming layout with outdoor seating etc at the rear with lovely view down the valley towards the coast. Would definitely return if in the area again.
Cons: Arriving by bike from Marmelete direction we missed the sign for the place which was small and only faced the other way. So we had a couple of miles extra cycling to do! It was also a bit awkward arriving to find it all locked up and only able to contact the owners via a voicemail message. However it was early November and obviously a quiet time for them. The room was a bit cramped too, though nice enough, with a charming little en suite with a decent shower.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location and lovely rooms. Very clean and comfortable, lots of character.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: -
Cons: Incredible accommodation in Serra de Monchique with the possibility to use a big full equipped kitchen. The location on the street is no problem because there is like 1 car passing in an hour, probably even less and the windows are directed to the opposite side.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It is very nice kind of B&B. The staff is very nice and helpful. The place have some social area where one can spend some time with friends and on the other side of the road you find a very good restaurant. Perfect when hiking in the area or following Via Algarviana.
Cons: Nothing really.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location in the middle of the Monchique Mountains
Cons: The neighbour's barking dog at 4.15 am.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location of the guest house is very nice - the view is amazing . Pure beauty of Portugese countryside. The owners are very welcoming. All rooms have access to fully equipped kitchen so you can prepare your own meals. There is local restaurant just across the street - ask for their daily specials!
Cons: Our room was a bit small and had very poor sound proofing with the room next to it - this could be improved! For the last night we moved to another room which was much better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spacious property with use of lounge, kitchen. Modern. Big shower with loads of hot water. Nice breakfast. Welcoming host. A lift from Marmelete and back the next morning - we were doing the GR13 walk. Next to a great cosy restaurant. ( closed Wednesday and Saturday night)
Cons: Nothing - all was fine.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We loved everything, room was perfectly clean and bathroom very stylish. We loved the little patio and the common areas. Kitchen well furnished. Beautiful view and calm surrounding.
Cons: (Bed a little bit small but for a few nights it was not a problem)

7.5 Good
Pros: Wonderful location in the heart of this beautiful village. Our room was dry but many suffer from damp.
Cons: Breakfast. When I arrived for breakfast the scrambled egg had all gone, as had the cakes. It was a tired sorry affair.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Hotel is really beautiful. The views are breathtaking. Pool was amazing.
Cons: The thermal building needs a renovation. Felt like the lights in the room were non existent. Old tv with poor connection. No WiFi in the rooms. The walk from the reception to the hotel room is very long so if you have bags and no car you’d definitely struggle. Couldn’t get an airport shuttle from the hotel.
7.5 Good
Pros: Nice surroundings and staff
Cons: They put us a room that stinked of sewer, shower was blocked and ac didnt work. They moved us to a smaller room the next day but the ac didnt work there also. The pillows where wafer thin. Bed wasnt as comfortable as the first. Wouldn't stay here again
4.5 Okay
Pros: Hotel Termal is extremely run down and needs urgent refurbishment. The main hotel central is nice as were the shared facilities but hotel Termal should be closed
Cons: We had dirty rooms, with showers that didn’t work. Bathroom door didn’t close, cupboard door would close and we had a fire alarm set off one night and not one member of staff came to see what had happened. My husband had to go up to the hotel to main reception to get someone and he was reluctant to help! We also had very loud noises keeping us awake all night and it was old canopies banging on the top terrace. Terrible We were offered 50% off of one night and considering we were there 4 nights felt this was unacceptable
6.8 Good
Pros: The swimming pool was nice. The area around is very confortable.
Cons: The AC on the room was not working properly. We need to choose between AC on or daylight because the curtain was obstructing the AC unit. During dinner time we even left the AC working for a set point of 16 deg C but the result was the same: a room too hot. We decides to open the curtain and window but since the room was on the ground floor, we lost all the privacy.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great staff and facilities ! Excellent restaurant
7.5 Good
Pros: The location is incredible, but you need to have a car. The pool was very nice, and views from it very relaxing. We spent an entire day just by the pool. Free breakfast, but it was the same every day.
Cons: The hotel is in need of renovation, and they already started in some places. The rooms were old-fashioned, the TV and the AC were the old type. The bed was very uncomfortable and noisy. The restaurants on the grounds are not that great. Some rooms have the window directly above some water factory and is noisy. You need to have a car to go some place to eat, there are a couple were you can get delicious food nearby. One night the fire alarm startes blaring even though there was no fire, because the light went out. It wasn't turned off only after 30 minutes of continuous loud noise
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Hotel termal, simply, but clean, cosy. Hotel central - thats more stylish. Both hotels have common outdoor pool and small pool for kids. Termal pool is for extra charge in Hotel Termal building. Breakfast was great! The village is beautiful!
Cons: -
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great value, new owners doing great job on refurbish, nice staff, good value food, fabulous location
Cons: Beds a bit hard
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Large, comfortable, clean, quiet room, outstanding location, helpful staff. Outstanding breakfast in a great setting.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The views were beautiful. The bedrooms are spacious and very clean. The hotel restaurant made the most delicious chicken piri piri. And the staff were extremely friendly and helpful . The pool area was magnificent We would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Monchique
Cons: WiFi not very good and the TV screens very small. But we didn’t need to or want to watch any TV so it didn’t matter
5.8 Okay
Pros: The view from the balcony - stunning
Cons: I picked this place with an idea to spend some time far away from noisy and crowded places, just breathing out, relaxing and having a great sleep. BUT, there was a wedding party straight under my balcony in the hotel restaurant, me having 0 notifications from the owners about possibility of this kind of event. As a result, I managed to go to sleep only after 3 in the morning (loud music, dancing, just normal Portuguese wedding), with the need to wake up at 7. Breakfast was also delayed. Hotel itself is old, one of 2 power sockets in the room was falling out from the wall under the weight of the laptop charger, bathroom was begging for refreshment. So far, experience in TOP 3 most disappointing bookings ever.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place the best, host is great and evrything else
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing view from the balcony. Beautiful sunset, and the view all the way to the sea! At night the starlit sky was pristine with the stars bright and very clear.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: The room was freezing. The small electric radiator was making a dreadful smell at some point burnt the wiring and plug. The bed covers were old and heavy, the counterpane was from the 1960's. The receptionist guy, spent the whole of breakfast eating his breakfast whilst facetiming his best mate. The only jam was peach, there was no tea and the coffee was cold. Fawlty towers looked good compared to this.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Can't think of anything related to the hotel
Cons: The place is heavily worn out and really old - haven't had any decent attention, maintenance or refurbishing in decades
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The beauty of the property and the coziness of the common/internet room. also the breakfast was most satisfactory and was served by friendly staff. check in was easy and the heater was plugged in (in our room) ahead of our arrival. extra blankets were there for us.
Cons: vending machine for drinks would have been nice. there was no access to drinks/food at the hotel. fridge was empty and unplugged.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Free parking. Value for your money. Easy access. The owners are very kind and helpful. The breakfast is delicious and good although no one could expect breakfast like a big hotel with the money paid for the room. As a whole the place is a good choice for one night stay as was ours.
Cons: It seemed like while the hotel was once built with much thought and love somehow become a burden to the owners. The place needs a renovation and better management.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Sir Gildo received and made us immediately comfortable in the accomodation. We really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was copious and tasty. The pool was lovely and warm 24h. The room was clean and quite big, with a big fridge and a balcony. We also liked the silence around the hotel, very good and quite location.
Cons: I liked everything

9.5 Excellent
Pros: A small town old fashioned small city hotel, GREAT if you like to get in the spirit of the local culture and a 1960-style hotel. WE ENJOYED IT.
Cons: Cramped bathroom.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Love this place, feels like Portugal, would stay here anytime I visit Monchique. I had booked a room for 2 people by accident and when it came to paying the owner ensured that I only paid for 1 person (they could easily have charged for 2 had they wished). I appreciate the honesty. Very friendly, big rooms, nice views, super clean.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely people, simple but plentiful breakfast. Lots of drinks, fruit and ham cheese sandwich.
Cons: No toiletries, loud and challenging locks and doors.
7.5 Good
Pros: The room is pretty nice compared to what you expect, looking at the rest of the building. It has air conditioner and the water to bath is pretty hot. The bed is comfortable as well.
Cons: It's a really old building and you have to go up the stairs for the reception and then again for your room. You can hear everything so I spent the night hearing a baby crying.... People entering their rooms at 2/3am and some other people leaving at 6/7 am.... The breakfast were just bread, cheese, milk, ice tea and coffee.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room was very clean and bed sheets are changed everyday. Even if the staff is not speaking English, we found a way to communicate. :) Everyone was very nice and helpful. Right next to the hotel, there is a mini market, from where you can buy anything you need. If you want to visit Lagos, Faro or other places in Algarve, I would recommend to have a car. Would have been nice to have a fridge in the room, but was not a big inconvenience.
6.8 Good
Pros: the bedrooms were spacious, the beds were comfortable, it was quiet
Cons: the breakfast was a bit poor
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We arrived late but there was no trouble getting in. Quiet back room with nice view. Breakfast was excellent. Good restaurant on adjoining roundabout.
Cons: Some information on parking would help; locals signs are ambiguous.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful views fron the balcony, very reasonable price.
Cons: Room and washroom were on the small side, no elevator.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Clean towels & bedding clean. Enough Blankets & good heater in room.Nice view. Would have been better if weather good & could go out for evening & open windows but weather dreadful so with no tv, no internet & no one around, Twas a very quiet night !!
Cons: Bathroom door too big so would not close without scraping bottom of door across the floor. Towel rail broken. Plug in bedroom broken with bit hanging out. Internet only at reception. Old tv fuzzy screen. Not many staying so no one around to ask questions.

7.0 Good
Pros: Good location.
Cons: Room was cold but probably due to poor weather
7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast was awesome, there were several self-made cakes that were very good!
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Location in Monchique was nice
Cons: Tiny, damp and smelly room. Dirty floor around toilet in bathroom. No responses to our phone calls, No persons to be seen anywhere, that we could reach out to for assistance.
5.5 Okay
Cons: Poor breakfast. Cold smelly bathroom.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Almost nothing. The balcony gave a view up the street.
Cons: The intense smell of bad drains. The poor state of all the furnishings -many cup stains on bedroom surfaces, scratches and signs of much wear and tear on furniture. Extremely grubby shower curtain and many cracks in bathroom tiles and sanitary ware. Small bed with tatty bed covers. The room was long overdue a complete refrurbishment and the whole place appeared uncared for.
6.8 Good
Pros: Cheap and straightforward. No hassle. Nice effort at breakfast
Cons: Room felt a tiny bit damp perhaps. No one to welcome us, but it didn't matter - we had what we needed and suited our very cheap stay.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing. Shower unit falling to bits, leaked all over the floor. Bed hard. really a hostel not a hotel or bed and breakfast.
Cons: See above.
6.8 Good
Pros: The place was clean and right near the town's centre. My room had windows that looked out onto the street to the little tapas restaurant across the walkway.
Cons: The upper bunk was so close to my head it was tricky to get in or out of bed. The breakfast food included very old bread that was kind of gross and some old dried out cake. The coffee was mediocre. Checking in seems a bit odd. You get an email message telling you how to get into the building and how to get into the little lock box by your room to get your key. Thankfully, the owners/staff (?) were there and sorted it out for me. They said check-in was not until 4:30 pm but I travel by bike and it is hard to estimate arrivals times - that being said, the room was ready and they were fine letting me in. I would suggest to the owners that they practice a little more client interaction to improve things for everyone.
6.3 Good
Pros: It was basic but clean. Clear instructions provided for the safe keys. Good breakfast on the balcony's
Cons: Very cramped en suite with bit of a damp smell.
6.3 Good
Pros: Good location, price and decent breakfast
Cons: Poor customer service
