Pros: Great views
Pros: I liked the pool & location
Cons: I had a mountain view room, not seafront. Bathroom very tiny. Lots of lights, but not one bright one. I had to get up early for a ferry 1 day & the breakfast they provided was very below standard for a hotel of this calibre, 2 slices white bread & mortadella!! The coffee at breakfast was awful not fresh pots, but those machines where you get every type of coffee from.
Pros: Clean quiet lovely views
Pros: Excellent location and if you have a sea view the prospect of a beautiful sunset whilst enjoying a drink from the mini bar. Very good selection of food for breakfast and evening meal for the half board option. Both are buffet style and the food was well prepared with something to suit most. A good sheltered beach just passed the harbor at playa Vueltas and a nice beach at the other end of the bay at playa de la Calera, but with some strong waves. Lots of good looking cafes and restaurants but didn't try as I was on half board.
Cons: Some of the food was tepid depending on how long it had been out. Wasn't a problem for me but I know some fussy folk that wouldn't be too happy.
Pros: The view from the room of the mountains was unreal. The room felt homely although the bathroom was a little "tired"
Cons: Coffee :)
Pros: Superb choice for breakfast including sparkling wine. Buffet in the evening was superb , lots of different choices and very well priced.
Cons: I would have liked if someone explained about the different walks available and the level of fitness required!
With a stay at Hotel Jardín Tecina in San Sebastian de la Gomera, you'll be 8 mi (12.9 km) from Garajonay National Park and 15.6 mi (25.2 km) from La Laguna Grande Visitor Center. Featured amenities include a business center, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. This hotel has 2 meeting rooms available for events. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Beautiful, well maintained garden. General clean appearance. Spa area is well done. A salt-water pool in Club Laurel, with chlorine, though. Luggage pick-up right at the entrance. Great pizzeria at Club Laurel.
Cons: WiFi was really bad and unpredictable. After a while I got throttled. Plenty of tiny ants in the room (little you can do against them, though). Dirty curtains in the room and dirty seat pads in the main restaurant (If you can't keep the textile fabric of the cushions clean use a material that works for you). No complementary water (neither as bottle nor dispenser). Dress code for dinner. Coffee was weak, effectively undrinkable. The room card: The bar in the reception area just reads the (plastic) room key, other locations require the (paper) room card. Why so complicated, use one system. Hard to find your room. Map and way markers don't help much on day one. Maps don't show the names of locations. You are on your own to explore the area (you will get lost). Just put proper markers on the map and put the legend next to it. My shower leaked after each use. I would have thought that housekeeping would initiate a repair but instead they mopped up the puddle every day. Room service has a very limited selection of food (i.e. Pizza) compared to what you can get from Club Laurel if you take the stairs and pick up the pizza yourself. Mediocre vegetarian burger at the grill next to the main pool.
Pros: The garden with 1000s of plants is the most wonderful thing about this hotel. The location and views are superb! The infrastructure / facilities are very good. Buffets / food is very abundant and delicious. The room was big and tastefully furnished, with a lovely terrace. All in all this is a VERY beautiful hotel!
Cons: One must know that this hotel has more than 400 rooms = 800 guests. It is a huge resort with many (too many) guests around. During meal times one can notice how big this hotel is. All the rest was very good, I liked this place a lot!
Cons: It’s far from the port The stuff was really not nice
Pros: Beautiful gardens, great views
Cons: Too big, breakfast was manic start to the day. Going in late didn’t work as they would clear before breakfast stopped Sun beds all packed tightly together, would have been better to space out
Pros: Amazing location. Rooms were good, recently updated bathroom. Wonderful view of the Atlantic. Super-convenient location close the airport (only 7 minutes)
Cons: The common areas, especially outside (pool, terraces) could do with a bit of refresh. Staff are friendly and professional, but you do feel like on of many guests. Also, not enough parking spaces
Cons: The room is clean, no issue here, but without the airco running it has a strong smell of some perfume I cannot identify. We switched on the airco to get rid of the smell. The apartment size is just adequate for nowadays standards.
With a stay at Hotel Playa Calera in Valle Gran Rey, you'll be just steps from Playa La Calera and Valle Gran Rey Beach. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, laundry facilities, and an elevator. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Just lovely
Cons: The brrakfast plates were picked up bu the staff really quickly as if to say thats enough comsumtpion!
Pros: Excellent rooftop with incredible view. Spacious apartment, feels very luxury! Even left me a birthday gift, much appreciated.
Cons: The coffee and that all the other guests are exclusively German!
Pros: Apart from the food everything else was good, the staff were friendly, the pool area on the roof was excellent and the room was spacious
Cons: I have marked the score down because we were on half board and were so disappointed with the quality of the food. We persevered for 3 nights but on our last night we had to eat out which was a great decision as we found a fabulous restaurant.
Pros: Everything else was pretty good.
Cons: I wish there was a double bed instead of two single beds in the room.
Pros: Spacious, modern & well equipped kitchenette.
Cons: Nothing, it all works perfectly. The weather could have been less windy but that’s out of the hotel’s control!
Cons: I have an electric car and I am missing a charger in the hotel for my car. Just simply sending me to the public charger at the tourist information didn’t help. Too slow and too far away. In the future more EVs will visit and the management needs to instal 22KW chargers.
Hotel Jardín Concha is located in Valle Gran Rey, on La Gomera’s west coast. It offers rooms with a private balcony and great views of the sea and banana plantations. The rooms at the Jardín Concha feature tiled floors and a fridge. Each one has a private bathroom. The hotel has a roof terrace with fantastic views, and there is a communal kitchen. A daily breakfast is served in the garden. The hotel is 20 minutes’ drive from the Garajonay Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can drive to La Gomera Airport in around 50 minutes.
Pros: Charming quiet hotel - rooms with balconies and view of the sea. It's about a 20-minute walk to the restaurants etc. in Valle Gran Rey and a 10-minute walk to Playa de la Calera. Breakfast with homemade jams and fresh fruits is available - in nice weather you can have it on the terrace.
Pros: Everything was lovely. Beautiful room with a great view and the breakfast was excellent.
Pros: Great location for start and end of many hikes in area and short walk to beach. Room very clean with small balcony. Excellent breakfast, lots of variety and good coffee. (Very good Restaurant on next block up)
Pros: The hotel is the perfect balance between being close to the beach and the “movida”, and enjoying the quiet spectacle of the valley from your room. The rooms are clean and essential, with a lovely terrace surrounded by plants. Breakfast has the delightful taste of home made mango marmalade and avocado spread. I liked it so much I stayed one more night
Pros: Breakfast, worth extra money was excellent. Outside on patio. Lovely staff. Beautiful plants, seat etc. Easy parking, free on nearby streets.
Cons: I would have liked a bar on site. Its more like a B&B than a hotel. However I would go back. Be aware steep walk up to it. No car access
Pros: Nice building built against a hill. Cosy atmosphere. Friendly helpful and welcoming owner, good breakfast and overall a nice small hotel. Great terrace to watch the scenery and above all the stars. Quiet.
Cons: Might not be so suitable for people with heavy suitcases. But you don’t need all that stuff here..
Pros: I liked the area, it was really quiet during the night. Bed was comfy and the room was really clean. Also breakfast was tasty - but for additional charge. But the breakfast was really good, so I recommend. Wifi was working very well. Also the owner was very kind and helpful. I liked the neighborhood, very cute narrow streets with nice view to the ocean.
Cons: Parking was not directly next to the hotel, it was down on the main street, which was not a big problem. I was struggling to find the hotel in those narrow streets around.
Pros: Views, breakfast, small shared kitchen, characterful surroundings.
Cons: Problem with air con leaking.
Pros: Good location in valle grand rey and nice top floor apartment once we changed from 17 to 25
Cons: Modern bathroom
Pros: Location was perfect. Well presented apartments. Bonus of having two balconies!
Cons: Apart from the small pool the bed was extremely soft and uncomfortable. Otherwise a really nice place to stay
Pros: Nice place to stay in Valle Gran Rey
Cons: Decor is rather dated.
Pros: The proprietor was very helpful in helping me sort out a problem with my car, He ran me around in his trusty old Volvo, locating a new battery, and helping me install it.
Pros: Really helpful reception. Everyone was very friendly and made us welcome. The apartment was large with a good balcony and well equipped. Everything was clean.
Cons: Overall it’s a bit tired. Some refurbishment particularly in the bathroom would really improve the apartment.
Pros: Punta Marina is a small-scale apartment complex, located only 100m from the Charco beach, close to supermarkets and various bars and restaurants, and a 15 min walk from the bus station. Our one-bedroom apartment on the ground floor was cosy and well lit, contained a flatscreen TV, and had two small terraces. The kitchen contained a small ceramic plate, a toaster and an electric kettle, but no microwave oven.
Cons: The Wifi in our apartment was weak and unreliable, time and again it got interrupted. Our two terraces offered very little privacy, being right on a pedestrian through-way which was also used as a short-cut by non guests. The swimming pool, completely surrounded by a glass screen, is tiny, and the pool area unattractive.
Pros: Lovely peaceful location.
Pros: The garden area was wonderful. The owners provided fresh fruit every day. This place had a generally relaxed and friendly atmosphere and super location. Our son (1 year) loved walking around and it was very safe for him as the pool is enclosed.
Cons: The pool was too cold to swim in even on a hot day. But we were here in February so this is perhaps not so unexpected.
Boasting barbecue facilities, Casas Rurales Los Manantiales 1 offers accommodation in El Cercado with free WiFi and mountain views. This country house comes with a seating area, a kitchenette with a microwave, and a flat-screen TV. Valle Gran Rey is 26 km from the country house, while Vallehermoso is 21 km from the property.
Pros: Beautiful view from the house! The house was simple yet sufficient. Good value for money!
Cons: The house had tiny windows, so on cold days it was a bit dark inside and we couldn’t enjoy the views.
Pros: Radiators and the key holder was an extremely friendly and helpful lady
Pros: Great location, well-appointed property
Pros: Lots of character. View was lovely. Good walking from the door
Cons: Property is quite isolated. Would be better suited if you had a car
When you stay at Pensión La Gaviota in Playa de Santiago, you'll be on the beach and 6 minutes by car from Playa de Tapahuga. A roundtrip airport shuttle is available for a surcharge.
Pros: Great Location, very clean
Pros: The small town of Playa de Santiago provides a wonderful microcosm and this place is in the very center of it. Right at the sea you feel like sleeping at the beach and, if you are lucky, might even see the sunrise right from your bed (see picture). I’m a big fan and will come back!
Pros: Found it very good for budget accomodation
Cons: On sea front so therefore natural noise of waves at night when trying to sleep.
Pros: The hostel is a good option for budget travellers. The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean and directly at the sea front.
Cons: Half of Playa de Santiago is a construction site, as of March 2019. Unfortunately, the construction site is right in front of the hotel.
Pros: Location was great, right next to the beach. We had a late check in and they waited for us untill we arrived.
Cons: There was a lot of noise from the restaurant downstairs untill late at night. Also there was a strong emergency light above the door in the room. The room was quite small for 2 people.
Pros: Very clean room. Good bathroom facilities with bath wash, shampoo and 4 towels. Plenty of pillows and extra bedding.
Cons: Not all rooms have a small balcony, ask for one if staying more than 1 night.
Pros: Very nice person that welcomed us
Cons: There was noise from the plaza below and people were talking in very loud voices in the morning
Located on the beachfront in La Playa Calera, Apartamentos Playamar features a terrace. The guest house has family rooms. Featuring a private bathroom, rooms at the guest house also offer free WiFi. Guests at Apartamentos Playamar will be able to enjoy activities in and around La Playa Calera, like cycling. Valle Gran Rey is 1.7 km from the accommodation, while Vallehermoso is 27 km away.
Pros: The location couldn't have been better. Close to the beach and all the restaurants and bars. Considering that it was very quiet at night. Would recommend for a short stay.
Cons: We were on the second floor so lots of steps.
Pros: We had two additional requests that were accommodated by the property almost immediately (first thing in the morning of the next day).
Pros: Amazing terrace and directly next to the beach... really calm and nice place - also next to the famous playa de ingles
Pros: Location very good.
Cons: They promise UK channel instead of others one. But nothing happens
Pros: comfortable bed and clean bathroom.
Cons: This studio was facing the back of the property which faced directly and with 2 meters of another block of apartments. The only window you could open faced this block of apartment and the noise level was unbearable with people coming and going late into the night. The people living in the apartment below were noisy , the TV on loud and they often started to cook or clean at midnight. The smell of frying meat went directly to my window above which I had to close in the end because of the smell and noise level were so bad. No welcome fruit basket as stated in the add and no instructions for anything within the apartment or to do with the town.
Pros: nicely decorated room and great location.
Cons: Table had no legs - it was a really a board sticking out from the wall. So I was nervous about putting any weight on it.
Pros: Location..right on the seafront
Cons: Very hard to find No one on reception had to call them Many steps..Very noisy from other apartments.. disgusting smell from other people cooking..very small and not very clean..view out of window looked straight into next door bedroom.. bathroom was a joke..if you wanted a shower you had to hold the shower..not fixed to wall..roof top terrace dirty and not safe for children..
Pros: Comfortable room and bed. Good bathroom. Good, quick, reliable WiFi. Able to wash some clothes and dry on roof. Good range of TV channel, but all German!
Cons: Property hard to find, and not marked with signage. Limited outlook from window of my room. Staff not much in evidence. Saw them when I arrived and when I left, that was it!
Pros: Perfect location, very clean.
Cons: Limited kitchen equipment. Anything else than pasta with tomato sauce is tricky. Communication with the staff had to initiated by ourselves (check-in and check-out).
Pros: Excellent location next to the beach. Wonderful view. Local fruits as a welcome gift.
With a stay at Pensión Amparo Las Hayas in Valle Gran Rey, you'll be close to La Laguna Grande Visitor Center and Garajonay National Park. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: How peaceful it was, just what we were after. Really friendly staff.
Cons: The shower could do with improving, ended up swimming pool in bathroom. Bar closed too early, good job we had been pre warned.
Pros: Great location- it has a good access to other parts of the island, to el Parque Garajonay. Good and cheap food-big portions, good quality, big sandwiches, good coffee and in the evening- nice ambience to try the local drinks. The staff is really nice and friendly. We were satisfied. Good price !
Cons: The only thing that we didn't like was the shower... It was hard to take the shower because of lack of the cabin, the water was easily going out and making the floor wet....
Pros: Very nice authentic Gomeran bar/restaurant with good local food and very nice balcony in restaurant
Cons: Everything was good
Pros: Beautiful area around Pension. There is the oportunity to eat in the restaurant Amparo at Pension. Very good water in the bathroom/ shower (high quality and nice, warm temperature).
Cons: Is a good idea to put some electric kettle in the room.
Pros: Food at the restaurant
Cons: Beds were quite uncomfortable. Bedroom was mossy. Bed sheets weren't clean
Pros: Quiet location. Nice staff at the bar/restaurant-very helpful and friendly.
Cons: No facilities in the room like kettle, fridge. After shower lots of water around the bathroom floor because the shower wasn`t protected enough from water splashing around. Bed sheets looked and smelled that they weren`t too fresh.
Pros: In the middle of the forest, no car or anything needed if you just want to hike all day. strong wi-fi.
Cons: no restaurant or supermarket nowhere near the place. so I did a days hike to the next biggest town to have dinner there.
Situated in Valle Gran Rey, 27 km from Vallehermoso, Apartamentos El Platanal features a garden and free WiFi. Fitted with a terrace, the units feature a TV and a private bathroom with shower. A fridge and coffee machine are also available.
Pros: Outside bath
Cons: Lot of noise in bedroom with stormy winds. Nothing to do about this, very nice place to be
Pros: Very nice place for vacation in la Gomera. Centrally located, yet slightly out of major tourism places in a calm place. E-thing is easy reachable by foot in the town. Very friendly and responsive host. The apartment is small but very well equipped with wonderful views from balconies. Parking is easy to find around the place.
Cons: Internet was jumpy and could be caught only in one balcony.
Pros: Very relaxing and great views. Perfect location.
Cons: WiFi as like many places a bit weak. Need to install patio door locks.
Pros: The location was central to Valle Gran Rey, the bus station, shops, beach and walking trails. The view over fields to the sea was lovely. 10 minutes from the port. The balconies got lots of sun.
Cons: The gas hob was tricky to light.
Pros: Terrace with a good view.
Cons: Lack of communication from host. Phone calls and texts ignored. Very dim lighting throughout the property -could not see to cook, eat or read at night. Internet rarely worked and was very slow.
Pros: Access to various places in Valle Gran Rey; spacious accommodation; good shower; fairly good cooking facilities; large fridge; three balconies; comfortable bed; fairly quiet within the apartment; access to washing machine.
Cons: External noise - dog barking every evening and sometimes through the night (this needs addressing with the owner of the dog as it greatly affected the enjoyment of the holiday); bad smell in bathroom; poor security; uncleanness generally; no pegs despite having a drying rack outside; no information - the shed where information was supposed to be held was locked; no information about evacuation in the case of fire; looking out on to a banana plantation wasn't very inspiring. On New Year's Eve a nearby party went on from around 10pm until 5.30/6 in the morning. This is completely unacceptable. If this was known about in advance, guests should have been informed. Even so, such a party should not be allowed and demonstrates extreme selfishness on the part of the participants; The apartment was adequate but we won't be returning in the future as there are too many issues, sadly.
Pros: you should try to get the code for the room before you arrive. we didnt got a code before and we called the host. she was very friendly she just speaked spain. we enjoyed our stay very much! this was the best appartement we got on the canaries.
Pros: Great apartment, very comfortable. Nice balcony front and rear, great shower facilities. Views over the banana plantation at the back is lovely. This part of the island is pretty quiet, so I would not be worried about noise in the evenings. Very close to beach/supermarket/shops and the nearby port. FYI, owner does not speak any English, I had to get someone to call her back so they could translate for me, but it was no big deal. Overall, a great apartment.
Cons: Wi-fi at the front of the property was non existent but at the rear it was fine. May experience further issues if on the top floor.
When you stay at Jardin Las Hayas in Valle Gran Rey, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Garajonay National Park and La Laguna Grande Visitor Center. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, luggage storage, and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The room was small but adequate, with a comfortable bed in an excellent location. Very quiet and relaxing, with a warm welcome for out hostess.
Cons: I was led to believe that this was self-catering, but the only cooking facility was a microwave, together with a refridgerator. There was no cutlery, no crockery except for two mugs, with water and wine glasses. The terrace was a small thin space surrounded with high wall and a rock face. With steps necessary to access the room, it would not have been suitable for guests with a mobility problem.
Cons: The shower wasn't warm. The room was very dark and cold.
Pros: Nice shared terrace
Cons: Room quite dark and no direct sunlight
Pros: Beautiful landscape when not covered by the forest clouds. Near to the forest access. Nice owner with good cakes production.
Cons: Nice Place but...no hot water for the shower neither in the evening nor in the morning! Breakfast not available before 8am hence we left without taking It.
Pros: nature around the hut.
Cons: missing kitchen tools. no wifi in hut. long walk to restaurant. heatin in bedrom was not working.
Pros: Definitely location. You will be very close to the national park
Cons: We stayed in a cabin, which is located near the hotel. The cabin itself is very nice, however very cold. There is air conditioner and electric radiator, but you will anyway get up into a cold room so be prepared. I was sort of disappointed with the behavior of the staff. We got used to the fact that on La Gomera almost no one speaks english. But there are ways to understand each other when you try. We had a small incident with a payment when we arrived (fault was on my side), but we were not able to get to a conclusion. This confusion actually caused that we didn’t wan’t to add a breakfast, although we planned to do so ( how to order it if you don’t speak spanish). Also there is no kettle in the kitchen - something you would really welcome after an all day long walk in the Garajonay park.
Pros: The staff was amazing! Very welcoming and helpful!
Cons: The shower was small
Pros: The location of the apartement is very good for hiking. The breakfast and dinner was exellent.
Cons: The bathroom is dark and wet.
Pros: Great (and lots of) food for little money at the restaurant (open from 8am-8pm). The terrace in front of the holiday homes (a 2-minute walk or so from the restaurant, which is where the check-in takes place) is lovely, but unfortunately it was too cold when we were there. Location is great for hiking. You should speak at least very basic Spanish for communication there and the room as such was fine but a bit dark and not too comfy.
Cons: View at... a wall
Located in Valle Gran Rey, this aparthotel is a 5-minute walk from Charco del Conde and 8 minutes by foot from Valle Gran Rey Beach. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, multilingual staff, and luggage storage.
Pros: Location, pool, bar, shops and restaurants.
Cons: Furniture could do with upgrading a bit.
Pros: It has a very clean and large pool. Very central and a supermarket nearby.
Cons: Very outdated furnishings, the sofa bed was ok but not the most comfortable sleep that we had. Because it is economical many Spanish families with very small children stay here and the kids cried and woke us up on both sides of our room. It was not a peaceful stay in that sense.
Pros: Very well kept, very friendly, very calm and peaceful
Cons: Hard beds, very hard
Pros: Love cared near seafront and shops
Cons: Difficulty with wifi
Pros: We liked the pool and the fact that it wasn't to crowded.
Cons: No breakfast, The decor was very plain and the beds were narrow and the mattress was to thin. !!!!!It was very mean to have a slot meter on an old fashion TV with no English speaking channels.!!!!!!!!!
Pros: Nice staff, good pool, well located
Cons: A bit noisy, couldnt sleep with window opened
Pros: Nice and friendly stuff speaking also english. The location is perfect, the flat is nice and comfortable, and the pool is also really cool. I can reccomend it to anybody!
Cons: Missed the wifi from the flat.
