10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel in lovely grounds overlooking a lake. Enjoyed kayaking and taking bikes out around the local area The owners were very helpful and went out of their way to make our stay great. Very comfortable bed and great breakfast with lovely home made yoghurt and bread and lots of choice.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lake view from the room was beautiful. Home made bread, jam and yogurt of the breakfast were excellent over market sold items,
Cons: In the room, there was an artificial flower as decoration. Thinking that surrounded with beautiful nature, better avoid artificial matters.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely wonderful quiet location. 5 km from center, middle of nature. Super friendly host. Lovely room with good bed. Great to run or bake along the lake. Breakfasy very nice! Highly recommended.
Cons: Nothing at all
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nicely located, lovely view on the lake, bicycles and kayaks are available and all meals were good. I recommend especially the breakfast pancakes filled with fruit and topped with honey. By car or motorbike you can easily visit the mountains in the west, on the Myan Mar border and visit the Chinese Kwo Min Tan village of Mae Salong and the lovely gardens an villa of the former king Bumipols mom. If you like to cycle, there are very nice small country roads so you can make a good day trip cycling east along the lake, connect to another lake and then go up to Chiang Saen to see some temples and the ancient citywall. We cycled further along the Mae Kong to the golden triangle and had lunch at the luxurious Anantara Elephant resort overlooking the river and Myan Mar whilst elephants were grazing right in front of us. The Hall of Opium - a state of the art museum - is right across the street. We returned back to Viang Yonok cycling South East from the village past little country roads, sometimes unpaved, through rice fields and other crops to end up a bit West of the hotel so we needed to follow the main road voor a short while before we could turn south again. It's a 50 K tour, more or less. You need a good map and Ian's advice;-) Jim and Ian are lovely people, always willing to help and to give advice. We stayed 4 nights; there is enough to see and do, but you could also just enjoy the lake, the birds, the garden and the pool. Another nice day trip we took is to Baandam, the Black House. Worth it!
Cons: We had the room overlooking the pool and the lake and were the only guests for a day and a half; it felt as of we had a private pool. If there must be one critical thing to say; the rooms, or little houses really, might be found a bit outdated by some. For us it was perfect; i guess we are just not that hip;-)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very quiet location. Small pool for refreshing after a visiting journey. Nice owners.
Cons: Location is very remote but maybe perfect for bicycling clients.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What did we like? The very kind, attentive, joyful and interesting owners (Vanassa and her husband Ian), the well-cared for grounds, the respect for the local environment, the delicious home made bread and jams and fresh fruit for breakfast, the well outfitted rooms that show how much care the hosts take to try and please their guests, the attention to small detail, our room with a view of the beautiful and serene lake in all its natural beauty. Vanassa and Ian took the time to show us their lovely property (hotel grounds but also the adjoining private family areas), and to share the history of its beginnings and their vision of what they wished to create (a little paradise in sync with nature) and why (to share its beauty with others). Ian also interrupted his morning to show us his incredible vintage motorcycle collection (he lovingly rebuilds and restores them..and rides them) and gave us one of his freshly arrived high-end road maps (along with road trip tips) that turned out not only to be a lifesaver but we also ended up doing two of the most beautiful routes in Thailand because of it. Vanassa took care of all of our accommodation needs and we really enjoyed her vivacious conversation and quite funny and warm stories during a breakfast chat. We were only there for one night because of pre-scheduled plans, but still it felt like visiting with old friends! Thank you both for your warm welcome!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The whole place is wonderful. Staff are so friendly and go out of their way to help, the rooms are really well looked after and special, and the bathrooms are just lovely. The food at the restaurant (have to let the staff know you want to eat there before the evening) was completely delicious. Wonderful lake view, too. Fabulous.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful property. Very “Thai”. Beautifully decorated individual rooms. Great hosts. Great breakfast.
Cons: Nothing. Would recommend to everyone
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything in the hotel. This hotel is very nice... Beautiful.. Very nice breakfast. Homemade bread.. Yummy!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a delightful stay at the lodge. Staff are accommodating and attention to detail throughout the facility is extraordinary. Our unit had a lake view. The large bed was comfortable and bathroom (with plenty of hot water) functional. If you are a fan such as me of classic Engish motorcycles, I am sure you can swap adventure stories with the engaging host who is a BSA and Triumph expert. Finally, Thailand is my home and I have travelled around the country. The U.S. style sit-down breakfast was one of the best I have ever experienced.
Cons: No complaints. Looking forward to a return visit.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was excellent value for the money. Fresh fruit and fruit juice, Traditional Thai coconut treat, American style cooked meal and as much toast with jam or marmalade as you wish plus fresh tea or coffee. (serve yourself.) All served with a smile and pleasant conversation.
Cons: Nothing I can think of.- (perhaps fresh milk and not creamer - not my favorite)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location very good for what I wanted, 10 minutes to The Hall of Opium . museum. 30 metres from the river walkway along the Mekhong. Easy to cycle to the old city, which I will do next time I stay. More to do in Chiang Saen than I imagined. The staff which is the owner, his wife, and daughter + a couple of others could not have been more helpful or welcoming. The breakfast was very adequate, with fruit, toast and an American style breakfast, orange juice, tea, and coffee. Toast, tea and coffee available free for 24 hrs in lobby. (and bananas). You can also hire bikes from them to cycle around. The cleanliness of the room, bathroom, and the whole property was excellent and I have no hesitation on returning or recommending it to others.
Cons: Nothing that I can think of in any respect of the accommodation, staff friendliness and breakfast. Value for money not in question. The guest house is being expanded so part is a building site but that did not affect our stay at all. The new wing will make it an even better establishment.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: very kind staff service.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are clean and comfortable, the owners very friendly. Complimentary hot water, tea, coffee, banana & toast with jam all the time available.
Cons: The guest house is located at a main road, so you always get quite a bit of traffic noise, besides that there is some construction going on at the property next. The garden is tiny and also open towards the main road and the construction site, so it's not very comfy for everyone to sit and have your breakfast there.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: everything
Cons: nothing

Cons: Perfect - no complaints at all.

Pros: Staff very friendly, accommodating and generous. Location, security, accessibility to restaurant and night out, nice weather close to the river, etc. Value for money.
Cons: none.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly, efficient and attentive and couldn't have been more helpful. The hotel is right on the river and such a relaxing place. The room was very comfortable, clean and very well laid-out with a lovely patio area. It exceeded my expectations, especially for the price I paid. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxed and comfortable stay in the area.

Pros: Beautiful spot! Room, view, washroom all perfect. Very modern and clean. Meals and restaurant staff very sweet. 9.5 Excellent
Pros: View of the Mekong from the restaurant is so romantic, especially at sunset. Staff at the restaurant are very friendly and the food was of high quality: the tom yam cat fish tasted clean and delicate. Very comfortable beds and pillows. Balcony overlooking the river was fantastic. A nightcap of warm soy milk served at 8 pm was a nice touch.
Cons: The toiletries smelled heavenly, but they could be more generous with them for two persons. The room smelled a bit musty when we first entered.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved our Room so very Much...The View was awesome and very beautiful looking into Laos...We had such a wonderful time at the pool right on the River....The Staff was so nice and made us feel at home....The food and drinks at the restaurant were fantastic...The Bartender was Great...We felt so welcomed when we arrived at the Hotel...The Staff did a great job cleaning the room....We will definitely stay again....

10.0 Excellent
Pros: An extremely attractive well kept hotel lovely manicured gardens, very clean and comfortable room, quiet setting away from main road, very helpful staff and a big plus was there was no charge for doing our laundry, we originally booked only for one night because we liked it so much we stayed for three the rate of THB 600 per night is amazing, one point to be aware of is that you do need your own transport as the lacation is slightly out of town
Cons: Everything excellant
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very pretty and well kept. The room was extremely clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was pretty good and all of the staff were friendly. It was really good for the money, I've paid more for mediocre or bad places before. Highly recommend!
Cons: We booked quite far in advance and pre paid and I think there was some confusion with our booking. It was totally fine, we just ended up in a twin instead of a double. Only other critique is there wasn't any juice at breakfast, but that's a minor critique
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The keepers were very friendly and helpful, the room was extremely clean and you park your car next to your room. I was on the road so it was a perfect 1-night stay, away from everything (between Chiang Saen and Wat so very quiet environment. If you don't expect night life and fun at your door, then your stay will be perfect at the BEST price (I paid 600THB for a large double room with Queen size Bed and a kettle + coffee/tea !!). And as you will certainly have a car to stay there, then you're at 2,5 kms from a beautiful dining place on the street along the Mekong river ("Chiang Saen Mekong Riverside Food Carts, Tambon Wiang, Amphoe Chiang Saen, Chang Wat Chiang Rai 57150" in Google Maps) :) Amazing. And stop also at "Wat Pra Dhat Pha-Ngao", a wonderful temples site on 2 levels where the view upstair is stunning. :o
Cons: I didn't put a (10) to comfort because I'm not a huge fan of the "satiny" sheets and pillow cases that were provided, it's slippery... But if you like them, then my note is not 9,2 but 9,6 !! :)
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Quiet bungalows around a garden, with car parking in front of each. Friendly staff. Clean, basic but pleasant room, with fridge and aircon. Good buffet breakfast in the garden. Good price.
Cons: In the outskirts of town, but with a car this was no problem. Bathroom floor gets wet because shower has no curtain. Hard mattress, even for my wife who is Thai. Only cash payment, no problem though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful place, close to the city but located in a garden. Spacious room with kitchen and separate living and sleeping areas. Tasteful, simple decor. Nice breakfast with great khao tom as well as toast, etc. Friendly owners. Loaned us some dishes so we could enjoy the leftovers we had from a restaurant meal.
Cons: Wi-fi was not very good in the room, but worked fine outside in the garden.

Across the main road, there's a cafe/restaurant which is really lovely, a nice place to spend some time relaxing. 4.3 Okay
Cons: The rudest staff ever. - Firstly they tried to charge 900bht when there is a sign outside that says 650bht and on booking.com it was 550bht. We obviously pointed this out to which the receptionost quickly tried to cover that 900bht was including breakfast? Not sure how they worked that cost out. The receptionist informed us there were two free bottles of water in our mini fridge (mini is an important adjective here). There were 4 bottles when we opened the fridge. 2 which were 600ml and 2 that had 450ml. We drank the two that were 450ml. Upon checkout I was shocked when he said we had to pay for the water, apparently we had drank the ones that were not free (please not there are no signs or indication which ones are free and I think it's more than fair to believe the lesser quantity bottle would be the free ones). I explained that he had not specified which ones were free and if there was means for easy mix up he should of been more specific. Alas he did not care one bit and demanded we paied for the water. 50bht. Yes 50bht for two 450ml bottles of water!!! That is over double the price. I can literally buy 5l in the shop for that amount. As my partner did not want confrontation he paied the money to which the receptionist was LAUGHING AND SMILING right in our faces as we did so. Never have I ever been so appalled by the lack of general respect from a person let alone an employee of a hotel in which I was a paying guest at. To top it off he didn't even give us the free water! The hotel itself- The lift has the WROST smell of damp I have ever smelt in my life. This smell (although on a lesser level) remains the same for the bathroom. The shower head is so poorly maintained water will come out all directions. Oh and you have to leave it on a drizzle to get any hot water. Our tap was broken and dripped all night long. Wi-Fi? Continuously diconneting you can't even load an article online. Basically - don't stay here.
