While over all the report looks nice from the marketing pictures and the location is in fact beautiful, the service and facilities are not up to par. To start with most of the staff was pretty rude or the service was very slow. We went in the off season so maybe they employee less staff but there was also fewer guests. At the bar and grill we often had to wait 15 minutes before someone would bring us a menu. the front desk staff was often sitting resting their heads on the desk in the main lobby and one of the bell men was extremely rude to us when we requested a towel for an off property excursion. That being said, the old woman with the long tied up hair at breakfast was extremely sweet and made us feel welcome each morning, and the bell man that drove the golf carts in the evening and was a spear fisherman, these two stood out as being super sweet. The hotel is secluded from really anything else which adds to its beauty. However, you would expect they would recognize this and provide more conveniences given the location. For example, all the taxis operate by cash only and there’s no ride share options available on the island. Fine. The hotel doesn’t have a ATM or any way for guest to get cash out if they need to go literally anywhere off property. If you do need to go off property, you better request or hope you get Victor as your driver. He is the sweetest man and always on time no matter where he’s picking you up from the island. His pricing was also always consistent. The same could not be said about the other taxi service and driver we had. The hotel also had a very limited snack and “store” selection. When we suggested to the front desk we needed a place to buy sunscreen they said they didn’t have any for sale or know of anywhere we could purchase some… on a tropical island. One employee did finally suggest the on property dive shop, but we had checked there earlier in the day with no luck. The pantry/ snack selection for purchase in the lobby was terrible. God forbid one morning you need to rush somewhere early, or don’t want to spend $25/person on a continental breakfast, too bad because you’ll be purchasing stale bars or nuts from the pantry store in the lobby. The food. The nicer restaurant on the property had good food. We only ate there one night because it was a bit overpriced but the food was good and the service was great. They will up charge on everything from bread to water but for a peaceful dinner you don’t have to go far for, it was nice. The Bar and Grill, however, not the best. Everything from the spinach artichoke dip to the onion rings all seem to be reheated frozen food priced as if you’re eating at a nice restaurant. If there was a Costco on the island I wouldn’t be surprised if they went they each morning to supply the kitchen with supplies for the day; that was the quality of this ridiculously overpriced food. There was also only ever one bartender working extremely hard to help everyone at the restaurant. While we understood he was busy, we did witness him snap at a child who was politely saying “excuse me” while standing on his top toes to see over the bar to get the employees attention. I could go on but overall good 4/10 and service about the same. The rooms. They were definitely nice! The balcony in each room was also a lovely little luxury. We enjoyed our room and it was clean. There are no phones in the rooms so getting a hold of the desk is a bit of a task, and you have to go to the lobby to get water unless you want it from the sink but otherwise it the rooms were nice. This is very specific to our room, we were staying on the second floor and above us was a i’m kumquat tree so we were constantly hearing fruits falling from the tree and hitting the tin roof which sounded like an upstairs neighbor dropping tools on hardwood floor all hours of the day and night, but that was a specific issue to our room. The beach was super nice. We wish there was possibly server to take drink order on the beach and by the pool but other than that the beach was stunning and relaxing. We didn’t spend time at the pool because of some reviews saying it wasn’t clean. Overall we had a good relaxing time. We wouldn’t stay here again but if served it purpose for the time being. A management overhaul is definitely needed but the location if you don’t mind a little seclusion was excellent.

Pros:The location of the Carambola Beach Resort is idyllic. Beautiful white sand beach and tide pools nearby. The beds were comfortable in the patios attached to each room are lovely.
Cons:It is clear that this property was severely affected by the hurricanes a few years ago. They are still trying to get up and running. The restaurant and bar is chaotic at best with meager options. The staff seems unenthused to be there. There are kitchenettes in the rooms but no dishes or cooking implements or cutlery at all. Beach chairs are broken, there are still buildings on the property that are crumbling from the hurricane. Staff doesn’t consistently answer the phones. I can see the potential in this property but the staff and owners are not living up to its expectations.

Pros:Great property. Beach was large for the size of the resort which meant plenty of room. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms and facilities were clean and modern. Appetizers were great, main dishes were good. Mixed drinks were well made. Scuba on site, and though i don't scuba dive i heard good things.
Cons:I didn't have any plans to leave the resort, but if you would like to go to outside restaurants or get groceries you would need a car. There is nothing super close to the resort that would be in walking distance. There is a store at the resort but as usual the prices are higher than in the grocery store.
