10.0 Excellent
Pros: This guest house is nothing short of exceptional, from the beautiful location to the amazing 300 year old cottage which has been completely renovated amazingly by Martin & Catherine. To say they are the perfect hosts would do them a disservice because they are that and so much more. Would definitely stay here again & again. Me and my wife absolutely loved it. Thank you Martin & Catherine xx
Cons: Nothing at all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a BEAUTIFULLY converted Barn - by the present owner. We loved everything about the property and it is set in a wonderful garden, lovingly tended by the lady of the house, with lovely views all around. The only trouble is, with this review, we may never have the chance of re-booking!!

Pros: the location is set within the wye valley Gloucestershire Monmouth boarder, the excellent surrounding walks for all levels of fitness. local amenities of the village pub and shop serve a range of excellent produce. In my line of bussiness, a spend a lot of time travelling and staying in a vast range of accommodation. The attention to detail on ensuring a personal and tailored experience is the first thing that comes to mind. This is achieved within a friendly and relaxing approach as if you are catching up with a favourite family friend, that lets you get on with your stay in a way it feels you have a home away from home that allows you to simply relax. Breakfast is fantastic and varied for all dietary wants and needs.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location and fabulous views. Spacious and comfortable room. Plentiful breakfast cooked to your liking and welcoming hosts, Bharat and Ann

Pros: Very comfy beds, big clean bathroom, gorgeous views
Cons: Breakfast wasn't very professionally made, greasy and a bit burnt and rye bread instead of proper bread
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The spacious room and bathroom, stunning views, delicious breakfast and super-friendly welcome and hosting by Bharat. We were only sorry we didn't arrive early enough to enjoy relaxing in the comfortable guest lounge or chill with a glass of beer or wine on the roof, taking in the views. With secure parking for the motorbike and less than a mile into the centre of town with its choice of pubs and restaurants, Torlands is the perfect place to stay if visiting the area - one night wasn't enough and we will actually make a point of going back just to relax there at what is so much more than a B&B! Thank you Bharat!

Pros: Quality home baked Bread, Cake , Shortbread , Jam and Marmalade. Locally sourced eggs etc for Breakfast. Mixed fruit and yogurt, fresh coffee. Plus a plentiful selection of Tea coffee in the room. A wonderful view from the bedroom and bathroom window. Most comfy bed and duvet. Helen and Jeremy put their heart and soul into this business, which certainly has made my stay very memorable .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great and welcoming. Fabulous cake im the conservatory. Helen and Jeremy very friendly. Rooms large and comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcome. The room and bathroom were spacious and comfortable with an amazing view over the river Wye and hills. Helen is an amazing cook so breakfast was amazing, with a lot of choice including for vegetarians, and cakes are available all day should you be hungry. Thank you I had a great stay.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We loved this place. Quiet, clean and well equipped. The food was particularly good. A huge choice for breakfast, chosen the evening before, which meant it was served very efficiently at the time we had asked for. Much of it was homemade - bread, pancakes, jams etc - and all the better for that. Homemade cake available all the time, plus homemade cookies in the room as well. For us the location worked well though you would need a car to see the sights of the area, and to find food other than breakfast.
Cons: Really only the weather - which of course couldn't be helped. Getting up the drive and the final flights of steps to the house would be tricky if you had limited mobility. But it was fine for us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous location with views over the Wye valley. Belvedere House is a lovely B&B with great hosts. Cakes on arrival in their conservatory. Lovely well appointed room and super comfy bed. Breakfast was another highlight - spoilt for choice but appreciated the home made preserves and fresh fruit. Cooked breakfast was exceptional. Will definitely make Belvedere House my number one choice on my future visits. But book early as it is understandably popular!
Cons: Nothing. Jeremy and Helen go out if their way to ensure a great experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Homemade cakes on arrival, places to store and dry out wet canoeing gear - lots of little touches like this meant that this was a superb B&B. Spectacularly good breakfast!
Cons: Not applicable - it was absolutely spot on!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was excellent. The hosts were really friendly and welcoming. Great location for exploring nearby area. Room really comfortable and clean. My partner loved the biscuits in the room!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing breakfast, very clean and quiet for a proper rest on a long weekend . Many recommended spots around. Views are breathtaking totally would recommend :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was outstanding, the room was so beautiful and comfortable and I really loved the conservatory room they have upstairs where you can chill out and help yourself to some complementary cake :) The drive is a little steep so be prepared if your mobility isn't great (or your driving) as you will need to reverse back down too. The wifi is a little slow and could do with an upgrade or booster fitting to the router but it did work! The shower was beautiful and much needed after a long day out walking in the beautiful surroundings. There is a pub & curry house just 100 yards down the road which is super handy. I would love to return to Belvedere House!
Cons: N/A
10.0 Excellent

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very quaint and cute country cottage. We stayed in the Cottage suite, where you had a lounge and then an upstairs to the bedroom and bathroom. Bathroom products and tea and coffee facilities were top of the range.
Cons: The close proximity to seating outside, literally next to our windows (noise went on past midnight) The bathroom was very dated and stained. Found hairs on hairdryer case which were not ours!! Also do not believe the “roll top bath” advertisements as it’s not true. Hopefully they will bring the bathroom up to a high standard to suit the rest of the property as we would not stay here again for the price we paid.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Bed and pillows very comfy. Very attractive bath area. Unfortunately it was positioned in hallway.
Cons: Bathroom in hallway from front door. Only velux in roof so no outlook from the room.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful stay Amazing breakfast Amazing bath products Nespresso machine in the room was great and had caff and decaff options available Blankets were available in reception making sitting in the lounge/outside super cosy
Cons: The main dishes in the restaurant were disappointing, as the meat was tough and flavourless. Very good vibes though, so we still had a lovely evening Filter coffee served at breakfast wasn't great

Pros: Reception and bar staff extremely helpful and friendly.

Cons: The reception staff were quick to offer a different room to the one we were assigned due to being too small for a couple plus our dog. However the cottage room was still uncomfortable due to very noisy neighbours keeping us awake all night. It was not the hotel fault and they were quick to apologise but we had to cut short our trip. Pros: Fantastic sized rooms clean and tidy excellent price .a bath which my wife likes and a huge rain forest shower which i like, plenty of small soaps and shampoos etc .julie at the place where u got your key from was brilliant nothing too much trouble.would definately stay here again. Will recommend for friends and family.
Cons: No reception staff and the fact that when u arrive if you drive to get your key then theres no clear route back to lodge .outside could do with tidying up lots of weeds makes it look unloved even i can pull a few weeds .as theres no breakfast perhaps a vending machine
9.5 Excellent
Pros: For a one night stop-over this was perfect. A clean room, nice bathroom with excellent shower, tea & coffee making facilities, a comfy bed and all at a very reasonable price. Would use again and am happy to recommend.
Cons: Would have liked to check in at the lodge rather than over at the service station. Also would suggest better signage or directions at the lodge - the sign on the door said to check in at the Spar (perhaps this was because we arrived late in the day) but, if you don't know the services, you could very easily miss the Spar sign in the dark. We never did find a Spar in the services but just went to the main pay point (where you pay for petrol etc) would suggest the sign on the lodge door directs guests "across the filling station forecourt and to the main desk in the services".
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The beds were very comfy! The room was well equipped and had all we needed! It was a very enjoyable stay
Cons: I think we should be informed that check in is off the site of the Lodge and at the Spar shop in the garage
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great room and bathroom and loved the toiletries, plenty of milk, tea etc
Cons: Room not serviced because we didn't put sign on door asking for room service because no sign in room .John was very helpful when we reported this but couldn't find us clean towels but problem eventually solved by Annabel
5.5 Okay
Pros: The hotel was perfectly situated for my needs, and was clean enough.
Cons: There was no toilet paper in my room and no staff on duty to ask for some, so I had to source my own. The toilet did not flush very well.
6.8 Good
Pros: Easy to book in and a good size room. New and spacious
Cons: Dusty carpets. Could do with a good hoover. Dead flies on window ledge. Second time I have stopped here and commented last time that the bath needs a non slip mat in it. We were in a disabled room this time, didn't ask for one, no mat for bath. I would have thought this was essential for a disabled person. Bath very slippy. Handle on outside of bathroom door kept falling off. Did not give us a great problem but needs rectifying.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet, despite being nearest to road. Good, firm bed. Fabulous shower. Generous size room ( family room but same price as double) Good TV. Clean and fresh.
Cons: No air conditioning. Bins in car park over flowing.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The telly and shower is lovely
Cons: There’s nothing to lock up our motorbikes at all not very motorbike freindly. Had no choice we had to lock our bikes up at the front maid entrance storm porch post luckily the chain just able go go round it Also not very deaf aware at all etc if there’s a fire how we going to know as all the staffs at at the garage which is about 6mins walk to the “hotel” as it’s weird a hotel with no staff and reception at all !!!! So werid would rate that all would rate that place 2/10
5.8 Okay
Pros: Clean modern room

Pros: The room was lovely and tidy, great size for me and my partner. I liked the area the hotel was in and the fact that it actually had a hair dryer and microwave. The room was a great value for what we had
Cons: The sofa bed had dirty bedding on it as it had blood stains on it and had a bed bug on the sheet along with dirt. It was a shame it didn't have a cooked breakfast in the morning.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely little Guesthouse. Lovely little place. Definitely would use again.
Cons: Slightly more closer to the main house than would of liked. Big windows would of been nicer facing views instead of house. But don't let this put you off.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable and cosy accommodation. Very relaxing setting and perfect for a rest and recharge after rolling around the hills.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A very peaceful relaxing location. Guest cottage was extremely clean. Everything needed for a 2 night stay. Outside breakfast area is great. 15 minutes into lovely Monmouth. 25 minutes into stunning Ross on Wye. Ample parking next to the cottage. Fantastic scenery & lovely walks.
Cons: Didn’t like is too strong a statement... this is more a suggestion... Upstairs in the bedroom / dressing area it was quite hot after two days of very sunny weather. Even with a window open it was still quite warm. The option of a small fan to move air around may make it more pleasant for some guests.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: This is a really secluded property, deep in the heart of the Monmouthshire countryside. You can really feel that you've got away from it all and relax to your heart's content. On the first morning of our stay, the sun was shining brightly and the view from our bedroom was sublime. It is a beautiful property - spacious and nicely designed.
Cons: We assumed there was going to be a cooked breakfast. In fact it's more like self-catering and they just provide you with the basics for a simple breakfast. This didn't turn out to be a problem for us but perhaps they should have been a bit more explicit about this on the listing. Some people might have been disappointed.

7.5 Good
Pros: We had a problem with the hot water in our room, but the manager gave us the keys to another room that wasn't being used so that we could use the shower. Staff were very welcoming and easy to talk to. As it was a Saturday night, the pub was very busy with a couple of stag dos and work gatherings, we enjoyed watching the locals have fun and the band that played was really good.
Cons: The room we were put in was not the room we saw pictures of at the time of booking, however it was adequate for our stay.

Pros: The rooms were well kept and comfortable. Great location. Breakfast room looking a little tired but quality of breakfast was good.

Cons: the hot water was a bit erratic, and as it is located near the a late night tapas bar i think it would be a bit noisy at weekends . there was a fan in the room but i did not use it as it was very dusty. generally very nice pub though and nice to have the tapas bar so close.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and helpful, do t be put off by the entrance, it’s very quirky place to to stay, we will definitely go back with the family!
Cons: There needs to be a better signed posted entrance to the site
8.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a difficult one. After the initial shock of arriving we quickly accepted that this was a quirky place to stay, No one was there when we arrived but Paul and Jules quickly arrived and they were very friendly and helpful Paul cooks a very good breakfast and the bed was comfortable and the shower (once we worked how to work the plumbing) was fine. The Location in the heart of the Forest of Dean is very quiet and peaceful and we enjoyed our stay. There are lots of fascilities for children to play but we had the whole place to ourselves to birdwatch.
Cons: I do not think that booking.com represents this property accurately. The outside appearance is one of some dereliction but once you realise you are staying in an 'eco lodge' type setting that makes sense. There was no restaurant on site although it was stated that this was the case during the high season. There are the facilities for a restaurant but apparently only opens twice a week when there are lots of people staying, The bathroom was a converted barn with a stall for the shower, flagstone steps and 'steam punk' plumbing. Not what we expected but functional. (the cold lever on the pipe to the bath is still broken) I think people would be less likely to be disappointed if they knew what they were going to expect. I also think for the price of £125 a night (including breakfast) it is a bit steep for what is basically a room.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Loved the bath and the back garden great for kids I can imagine. great staff were very helpful and the bed was very comfy.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in a fantastic room with a really quirky style, comfy bed, great bath and the host was very helpful and polite nothing was a problem. Great cooked breakfast and lovely feel all round. Good coffee, wish we’d booked for another night. Will return here.
Cons: Only thing that we didn’t like was there was no door between the bedroom and toilet/bathroom. (Purple room) would love to come back when a door is fitted
4.3 Okay
Pros: We had a warm welcome from the manager (not owner) Paul. Gave us information on local tourist attractions and straightaway provided us with milk to have tea/coffee in our room.
Cons: I booked three nights at The Lodge Rooms in the room with a bathtub in February 2019 as a belated Christmas treat. We stayed for only one night, then left to find a different hotel. We have requested a refund for our stay from the owner and are still in dispute with the owners, attempting to resolve our complaint. These are the issues we have raised with the property owner: • No signpost from main road; difficult to find. • Pot holes on approach dirt track. • Entrance gate uninviting. • Had difficulty locating reception as no clear signage was displayed. • Slug slime around the kettle, tea and coffee area on floor, walls and fake greenery on arrival. • Slug next to toilet on arrival. • Slug slime on walls of windowsill on arrival. • Cobwebs all over the stone walls and around taps. • Drenched, smelly hand towel on our heated towel rail on arrival. • Used and burnt out candles next to the bath with used matches strewn all over windowsill on arrival. • Dirt in bath tub on arrival (we had to clean it before use). • Rubbish behind sink. • Paul (manager not owner) refused to take back leftover milk after we had made a cup of tea and advised we should leave it overnight in our room - we wouldn't use milk not refrigerated and thought this a bit unpleasant. • Shower free-flowing randomly throughout the night (at 03:00am which woke us up to discover the next problem) • Large slug on the carpet at the foot of the bed at 03:00am. • Pallet bedframe scratched my husband's leg when he got out at night. • Bugs behind headboard at night when we turned on the lights. • Bath tap dripping slowly but constantly. • Bath cold tap broken. • Large window frosting panel insert fell out onto my husband whilst he was in the bath trying to open the bathroom window. • Single mattresses put together to make a king-size bed without a substantial mattress protector meant I fell between when trying to sleep - quite uncomfortable.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: The bed was comfy
Cons: Arriving at our stay there was no signage to speak of whatsoever, the front of the building looks nothing like the photographs which was very unnerving as we arrived in the dark, with no outdoor lighting on the enterance gate or walk way and as there was no one at the property when we arrived, meaning we had to ring to ask where to get in to which we were told “they might have popped out for a min and shouldn’t be long”. Once in the room, we quickly found that the blinds were broken on the window in the bedroom at the bottom of the bed, to which I had to tie it up to get privacy and comfort from the daylight. The window at the side of the bed, the blind only came down a quarter of the window therefore there was no privacy whilst in the bedroom, if we hadn’t put a towel to stop the daylight in the morning waking us up and also to improve the privacy then we would not have the stayed the night. Opposite the bathroom/shower there was a window which was only half frosted therefore there was no privacy what’s so ever whilst having a shower or using the toilet, you were visible to public walking past (dog walkers etc) they could see straight through the window, therefore we had to hold a towel up against the window when using the toilet and showering because there was no blind or curtain too. As my girlfriend is pregnant, meaning she is having to use the toilet more frequently was a huge inconvenience to us. On 3 occasions in the night, I was woken up by her so she could use the toilet with confidence that there was privacy, which again was a huge inconvenience. The WiFi signal was very poor and there was no phone reception indoors. This was very disappointing as reading other reviews we were excited to stay somewhere so unique, however the privacy and adequate facilities are far more important to us. This has made us very wary about booking using this website as the property was inadequate and did not fulfill what was described and photographed.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very cool interior decor. Great Breakfast! Made to feel very welcome! On the doorstep of the Forest, great for walking and biking.
Cons: Was a little chilly but was freezing outside, literally.
6.8 Good
Cons: A double booking was made and to date even when I called the booking center on the day, no closure has been received and I have had to pay double for a room losing £90. Communication has been poor.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room was stunning, staff were so friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was really nice
Cons: Could have more selection for the breakfast but nothing else
