Overview

Nestled into the Beartooth Absaroka Mountains is the Soda Butte Lodge. It’s in Cooke City, Montana and is right on the Main Street of town. The location of the lodge gives guests easy access to Yellowstone National Park, as well as Lamar Valley where travelers like to go “wolf watching”.

There is a restaurant and bar within the hotel property. The Prospector Restaurant is open every day during the peak times of the year. Guests can enjoy some warm meals, cold beers, and views of the moose and bear habitat right across the way. There are a few other places to eat in the area. Guests will find Bearclaw Bakery, Beartooth Café, Miners Saloon, and Log Cabin Café Bed and Breakfast all within just a few minutes of Soda Butte Lodge on foot.

The Soda Butte Lodge only has 32 rooms. There is no smoking in any of them. They can be booked as singles, doubles, triples, and suites. The rooms are decorated with a rustic western style. Modern amenities included within the guest rooms are pillowtop mattresses with down comforters and premium bedding, LED TVs with satellite programming, and free WiFi.

The lodge is close to many outdoor things to do and see. The Northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park is just a few miles away. Guests can also go check out Shoshone National Forest. There are fun winter activities to take part in during the cold months of the year. Guests can get out to go snow mobiling, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, and more. During the warm months visitors can enjoy hiking, fishing, and horseback riding.

Pros (+) the hotel is old and in need of repair. however, the walls appear well insulated. enjoyed a quiet evening with the window open. listened to the wind blowing through the trees and the babbling brook. we enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the adjoining restaurant. the staff were very pleasant and helpful. if ever we are to return to gardiner, we would stay there.

Pros (+) Liked the rustic feel of the lobby and restaurant.
Cons (-) The room was a disappointment after seeing the lobby and restaurant. The Rustic feel was gone once you entered the room. Some maintenance was needed in the room. The bathroom door didn't even latch. We had food spoil since there was not a fridge in the room. Were disappointed there was no breakfast included. Poor value for the money paid.

Pros (+) Staff was excellent -- made us feel at home and went out of their way to make out stay enjoyable. Mars was great, as was the rest of the staff.
Cons (-) Facility is nice, beds were very comfy, and the rooms were fine. The fireside area was wonderful. The place needs new carpet, which would make it complete.

Pros (+) Location is near to Yellowstone. Good place to stay and start earl to lamar valley. Food was good at restaurant.
Cons (-) AC didn't work. Luckily it was cold outside and we slept the entire night after opening the window. AT&T has no coverage here so a crappy wifi is the last thing you want after enjoying a phone free day in Yellowstone.

Pros (+) The location is excellent - if you're entering or exiting Yellowstone by way of the northeast entrance, Silver Butte Lodge is on your way.
Cons (-) To be honest, due to the other reviews I read and the vibe I got, I ended up going elsewhere for food so I can't say much about the dining. One thing I noticed about their wifi is that they say "Please- No video/voice calls, downloading, or streaming". They'll tell you when you check in as well, the wifi is pretty bad.

Cons (-) The walls are paper thin. Got to listen to neighbors snoring, have casual conversations, etc.

Pros (+) The location was great for Yellowstone National Park, a really friendly old fashioned hotel set in the mountains.
Cons (-) Wi-Fi was a bit hit and miss, manly confined to the lobby, other than that we had no other problem.
