10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place had great style and very roomy compared to other guest houses I’ve stayed in. There were lots of showers and toilets available. Everything was clean. It was a bit of a walk from the station with luggage (and a slope) but still pretty close.
Cons: The place was very nice. The staff didn’t really give me any instructions besides here’s the shower, here’s the toilet, and here’s your room. I don’t what other facilities were offered there. But I was only staying for the night before catching an early train. So it was fine.

Pros: Comfy and quiet. Great service and extra friendly people.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Situated on a higher ground, the guest house overlook the beautiful river valley below. Meanding through a wide bank of greenery, with bridges runnubg cross and small town houses on one side. It offers an absolutely fantastic view. The large outdoor yard with tables and chairs is an ideal spot to relax and bathe oneself in the environment at night or in the morning. The house was nicely decorated with paintings and various art objects that make it pretty charming. Clean toilet and shower room and even a founctioning hot bath tub. The local radio broadcasting adds an audio enjoyment to the accomadation. I was totally delighted listening to an chic Friday evening music programme when I was enjoying the Granny's yummy dinner! The owner was very kind, too. He actually owns a cafe in town classified heritage. A must to visit. I will certainly come back to the guest house next time.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The area is very beautiful. Location is great as well. Toilets are clean, so are the bathrooms.
Cons: It's cozy on the surface but our stay wasn't comfortable overall - we were greeted by an old lady, she got us a wrong key to the room. After spending minutes trying to get it, we just entered the next room - the sheets are clean but the bed was not comfortable and the smell wasn't pleasant - the smell of old furniture and dust. The walls are dirty and the mosquito net didn't protect from mosquitoes. We also couldn't sleep because of someone snoring. Also mind that there are no towels and tooth brushes.

Pros: The host was exceptional! The scenery around as beautiful!

Cons: The bed sheets were worn out. It’s kind of itchy. And there were no towels available..

Cons: I liked everything.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hot springs were great. The karaoke room was big and great for mingling. The game room was nice and cute. The dining area was plenty big as well. The food was amazing!
Cons: The baths had a couple loose rocks, but nothing major.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: more than 10 alcohol drinks available free of charge during dinner buffet
7.5 Good
Pros: A very Japanese experience. Amazing breakfast selection.
7.9 Good
Pros: We loved the futons and tatami floors! The hot water boiler in the room was a nice surprise, too! The staff were also very friendly and helpful, especially given we were two foriegners who speak little Japanese.
Cons: The bathrooms could have been a little cleaner. Also, while we understand Japan's tattoo culture, it was still disappointing to not be able to use the onsen since one of us had tattoos. Lastly, we had some confusion about if breakfast was included in the booking (it's not, it's ¥1080/person).
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Quite clean. Cheery atmosphere. Facilities quite adequate. Great spa baths!
Cons: Depending on the people, staff was midway between warm and cordial. Not cold, but a bit too businesslike. We chose the facility simply as a place to stay so we could see the Fukuroda Falls. The spa was a nice extra, but otherwise we were simply satisfied with it as a place to stay. We had dinner elsewhere and breakfast was OK.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Location
Cons: Poor English and no translations available. I booked as needed a restaurant but it was full despite arriving at 1730 and staff made no attempt to help sort me with food meaning I had to go out on my motorcycle and search out food. Rooms are old and tired and my room had a faulty door lock.

Pros: The dinner course was superb , way beyond expectation.
Cons: The hour of bathing. Not convenient in the morning.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast and dinner were fantastic and the ladies were wonderful in explaining to us how to eat some of the food. After the first day, they were prepared with google translation! We enjoyed the interaction with the staff as much as the food! The onsen was lovely too and not too crowded during our stay. The area around the hotel is quiet and the air as fresh as you can get! Fukuroda Falls was a pleasant surprise and one can feel the care and thought put into designing and building the tunnel which leads to the waterfalls. In general, the staff at Honen Mansaku have been wonderful- very helpful and always greeted us with a big smile and welcome. Even before our stay, we have been greatly helped by Yoshiko, who recommended that we rented a car which we are very glad we did as that allowed us to travel to Mito, Hitachi Seaside Garden and Nakaminato Fish market.
Cons: Nothing :)
