Pros: All the previous positive comments about the owner are true :-). The Papaevangelou is a perfect base to explore the Zagori region (rafting+hiking) and to relax. The scenery is beautiful (views of the Astraka mountains). Natural pools within walking distance. Papingo is a popular tourist destination, but it is certainly not overcrowded.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location, great staff and atmosphere.
Cons: Unusually hot weather. Can't blame the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A TRUE Mountain Paradise. Yes, the term is too often loosely bandied about, but in over 45 years of traveling this beautiful world, I've seen a few that clearly stand above and sadly, some that have lost that lofty status over time due to the incursions of modern tourism. But Papingo Village, the Papaevangelou Hotel and its kindhearted, ebullient owner George have once more (second year in a row!!) captured our hearts and joined our personal pantheon of the best places on earth. Wow! The views, the setting, the colorful, dramatic, historical ambience, the natural sights and sounds, well, it's all pretty unforgettable. George's careful, caring attention to detail completely harmonizes his wonderful place with the stunning beauty all around, And the bountiful, delicious breakfasts on the terrace are simply amazing. We're still trying to recreate parts of them on our return home. A George is such a gracious, fun-loving guy, after a full day of hiking it feels like a return to a real home. George is the essence of Greek hospitality, charm and charisma. A Zorba-esque zest for living combined with a thoughtful, philosophic bent of the ancients who invented the stuff. Well, our cup of praise here is clearly running over, but we're just overflowing with warm memories of our five day stay in early June. It still brings a smile even back here, just thinking about all the smiles George & co. keep creating every day over there. Efcharisto/Thanks!! Naste kala/May you be well!! Steve & Tiya ps: take it from an old Himalaya guy who should know a little bit about such things, diminutive Drakolimni Lake in late spring is a rare mountain jewel.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wow, what can I say - our room was fantastic and spacious. There was air conditioning as well as two ceiling fans, as it was in the mid 30's this made the room lovely and cool and great to relax in. There was no private balcony but there was a communal terrace just outside which was shady and had great views of the surrounding mountains and the foraging cows. There were insect screens on all the windows and the windows were triple glazed it seemed so when a local wedding took place one evening across the road, we didn't hear a thing. There is a lovely bar in the basement of the hotel with pool table, there is a sauna and hot tub too, but it was the wrong time of year for that. The breakfast was lovely, a good choice of cheeses, breads, pastries, yogurt, omelettes, fruit and meats. The staff are very special, they were always helpful and kind and took time to give us tips on where to go and what to see so we had a good holiday. We didn't want to leave and definitely want to go back!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts Dimitris and Maria were wonderful. They could not do enough for us and made us feel like one of the family. Our room was beautiful and the small balcony overlooked the village square. We were given a huge amount of information on where to visit and how best to plan it - all of this ably assisted by Dimitris' niece (whose name I cannot spell). Breakfasts were wonderful and included pies and cakes made by Maria. In fact Maria is a wonder in the kitchen making not just pies, pizzas and cakes, but also preserves and liqueurs. A truly wonderful little place.
Cons: Cannot improve on perfection

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Second visit which says it all. The hosts are fabulous. Maria, Dimitris and their family make us so welcome that it feels like home. Maria’s cooking is second to none! Perfect location in Doliana on the square - this is not a tourist town so you you feel part of the Greek community. And all the locals are welcoming too. Just a wonderful place to stay and well located for Vikos and the beautiful surrounding area.

Pros: I can’t say enough positive things about our stay at Arkefthos Mountain Hotel in Megalo Papigko. Vasilia and Vagelis were warm, friendly and gracious hosts who made us feel like family. We were so sad to leave after only 2 nights! Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated with elegant traditional furniture. There was a fireplace, but we did not use that… the weather was glorious in mid-October. Our favorite thing about our room (in addition to the very comfortable bed, linens and pillows) was the fantastic view from our balcony overlooking the village and enormous rock formations. We really enjoyed watching the sun setting over the distant hills and the changing light turning the rocks gold and pink. Heavenly. Breakfast is served in the dining area and features a wide variety of Vasilia’s homemade baked goods, boiled eggs, yogurt, cheese and meat, fruit and jams. It was our favorite breakfast in Greece, and a delicious way to start the day! At dinner time, there are several great restaurants to choose from, all within walking distance. Papigko is a very scenic village and great home base for hiking the Vikos Gorge and surrounding area. I highly recommend Arkefthos Mountain Hotel and hope to return there soon myself… I cannot imagine staying any place else!

Pros: Everything was perfect. Hosts are very kind and helpful. The village is unbelievably beautiful and has great atmosphere. Definitely will return here.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was the most rewarding stay ANYWHERE we have had. So many good things to say- the setting was beautiful. The Mountain View was just that memorable. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. Our dinner in the VERANDA RESTAURANT was one of the best my wife and I have ever had in our travels.  The spa area was clean and luxurious and I had a relaxing massage which I would recommend. But the one thing that really made this weekend stay special were the staff. Every single staff member was friendly and respectful, from the folks at the reception desk,(was so helpful with any questions we had),to the waitstaff in the restaurant. VERY attentive. In short, my wife and I were made to feel special, and that simply doesn't happen in a chain hotel..
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The spa was quiet, relaxing and beautiful from the moment we walked in. After a long journey to get to the beautiful setting, we were greeted by a warm smiling face, glass of water and got a very interesting briefing on the history of the area. The room was clean and extremely comfortable! We used the spa in the afternoon/evenings after a few hikes which were suggested by the staff. The spa was extremely relaxing and clean. Both hikes, along the river and in the mountains to the red rock were stunning. We had a huge breakfast each morning and ate dinner one evening. Dinner was incredibly delicious. Especially the dessert! Everyone at the spa was friendly, warm and couldn’t be more helpful!
7.5 Good
Pros: Quiet and nice
Cons: Boaring
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely location, super clean, nice decor, super friendly staff. Since it wasn't very busy when we stayed, they were kind enough to upgrade our room to a suite!! Free use of sauna and indoor pool. Very good breakfast served in the lovely restaurant with great view. Would definitely stay there again!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect with a great view and almost absolute silence. Very nice place and the people there were very friendly and kind. The room was good and the breakfast was good, with a variety of things to chose from. Ν.Σ.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, and the extraordinarily helpful and nice staff.
Cons: Room furniture could have been better. Eg. a second chair in room 6! Bathroom lighting did not please my wife!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is amazing, the village is so beautiful and unique. The staff was really friendly, helpful and polite. We had a great time and we loved the hotel, the restaurant and the area. We totally recommend it!!! Thank you!
Cons: Some small details: We would like to be informed that there are more breakfast options available if you ask for them. We only found out the last day because we saw some other guests having an omelette. It would have been nice to know, since the eggs available in the breakfast buffet were not up to the hotels standards. We also thought that the sink of our bathroom was more design oriented instead of functional.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The location of the property was amazing and the view spectacular. We got upgraded to the only room with a balcony and it was very nice hanging out there. Sleep experience at night was perfect. No A/C needed. Just leave the windows open. Also, the veranda was amazing with an amazing atmosphere.
Cons: The food at the restaurant was average. We ordered a cheese pie, a mushroom ntakos, the home made pasta with sausage and a pink spaghetti. Home made pasta was good but the pink pasta was overcooked and the cheese pie was not fresh. Finally, the host preferred to speak greek instead of english although my partner didn’t speak greek
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Wonderful food on the perfect veranda. Warm and helping people
Cons: We had too short time to enjoy this wonderful place

10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a real boutique hotel! We loved everything about it, the country side design, the facilities (especially the play room with the pool table), the public spaces, and the amazing coconut bed that was the best bed I ever slept in. The owners of the place is a greek local family, and the manager is a cute grandfather that loves kids and is kind to everyone. The hotel olso offers a private yoga class and spa treatments (I did the yoga, it was too expansive but good). The breakfast is also good. We recommend this place a lot!
Cons: Nothing.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location was good for every activity we did (trekking, canyoning, rafting...) Breakfast was great!! Rooms were clean, and comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful
Cons: The room was small (I expected a big room as seen in the pictures on booking) there are some big rooms, but not the one we received. We couldn't open the windows at night because people talking or laughing could be heard ( one of the days, at 2 in the morning, don't know if it came from the hotel or from the street)

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really good view
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good food (the owners have an attached restaurant) in both morning and lunch. The room was nice clean and practical.
Cons: No shades on the door and window, just a light curtain. The price was too high comparing to similar hotels in other places. We visited many hotels in the area and got better prices for much better hotels. The owner insisted that I pay in cash, saying that is it mentioned as a condition in booking.com although for the lunch in the restaurant we paid with card! In addition he did not give a receipt. We were asked at what time we want our breakfast, we asked for seven but the owners insisted on eighth thirty. In other hotels the owners were generous and accepted our request. I have a feeling that this hotel needs more competition in the same village.
6.8 Good
Pros: Good breakfast, fantastic views helpful friendly staff.Useful transport options to start of vikos gorge
Cons: I found the bed a little bit hard for my comfort
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous spot surrounded by mountains, lovely hosts, fantastic huge breakfast!
Cons: Steep descent from road down to accommodation; have to park about 150 metres away (a minor inconvenience). However, to be fair, the helpful host helped us carry all our luggage from car to house and back.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: One of the best places I've have stayed at in Greece - nice hosts, quite simple but cozy & functional apartment, great views right from the door. There were some features that actually show the attitude of the hosts towards their visitors - mini bar & pillow selection (the bed was comfy, which is also quite important for me), which are such a rare things in Greece's private accomodation. Thank you!
Cons: Nothing comes to me this time..
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The (shared) terrace at this hotel is a real 'asset': fantastic view from your table or hammock with enough shade, very private. Hotel room comfortable, decoration a bit outdated but fine for us. Very friendly and helpful owners who prepared a picnic breakfast for us as we were leaving early; they have a restaurant just nearby with a delicious vegetable pie (one of the 2 restaurants in Vikos..). Spectacular views from Vikos village into the gorge and a 30 min hike into the gorge, down to the river.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Family, Foris was helpful and friendly at all times, as were his wife and father in law. The morning pastries served by his wife were delicious, especially the Portokalopitta. The vegetables from their garden, tended whilst we were there by the father in law were superb. The car could be parked next to the restaurant were a superb break fast was served. The family went out of their way to procure and provide Trout one evening as a pleasant break from Meat and Pies. The location was excellent in contrast to the tourist overload in Aristi. -
Cons: • Although the luggage needed transporting from the car park to the house, down a steep path, the family members helped take the luggage down (and back up when departing). The view from the room and terrace was good, unfortunately not of the gorge. No shops or ATMs in the village or Aristi, we took a daytrip to Kalpaki for funds.

Pros: Very friendly staff and beautifull houses.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at avragonio mid July. The lodge consists of separate houses which are really nice and offer a lot of privacy. The view on the mountains is superb. The rooms are spacious and clean with a small living room and separate bedroom. The bedroom is a liitle dark. Avragonio is situated near the papingo natural pools. The road towards Papingo winds up the mountain and it takes almost half an hour for a couple of kilometres but the views are very rewarding. We stayed for 2 nights but one could easily stay a week without getting bored.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a beautiful place to stay. The stone rooms and houses are set out amidst small courtyards and seating areas with plants and trees to soften the hard landscaping. Our room was spacious and comfortable with pleasing décor. Breakfast was provided by our excellent host Georgia with homemade treats provided each day. Nothing is too much trouble for her and we are thankful for her help and advice. Papigko is an excellent base to explore the region and has more to offer than some of the other villages in Zagori. We found the Tavernas welcoming, serving excellent food and wine. Also Café Sterna serves coffee, cakes, ice cream and locally made liquers - everything the tired hiker could want! The Papigko pools are a short walk away and well worth a visit
Cons: We only stayed 2 nights - next time it will be a week
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We love everything about Avragonio! From the lovely, artistic-decorate and trim room to clean pool, delicious breakfast, kind and helpful hosts - Mr. Petros, Mrs. Georgia, always smiling Ioanna (the girl with glasses). Thank you for those unforgettable days! Near by is Adriano's ristorante, the one and only that we adore! We felt like in fairytales! Definitely will come back again to the magic of Avragonio!
Cons: To leave this place...

Pros: Everything was great! The staff was really friendly! (Ioanna was the best!) The room was super clean with great view to the mountain. The breakfast was great (Mrs Georgia you are amazing). We will definitely go there again! You made our holidays unique!
6.3 Good
Pros: The spacial architecture and the pool .
Cons: One of the rooms was without balcony. The bedroom was clustrofobic ,too small as if suited for children. The breakfast place was nice but full of bees.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner, Mr Petros, is very friendly and made us feel very welcomed. It really felt like home. The rooms and all the outdoor space are excellent decorated and fairytale-designed. The room view was stunning. It is highly recommended for families. We will definitely come back.
Cons: The breakfast could have been better. I would expect local pies (only the first day they had made one cheese pie), fresh orange juice, local yogurt, variety of breads, crepes, greek pancakes (τηγανίτες). Unfortunately, the breakfast was very basic and didn't meet our expectations.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely gorgeous place with sensational views of the mountains. The village seems like time stood still. So picturesque and perfect to relax. Lots of outdoor activities in the surrounding area available such as hiking, rafting etc. Can’t wait to return.
Cons: A few more non meat non dairy options at breakfast would be great!

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything! We stayed 5 whole days, 6 nights, and enjoyed every minute. The touristic options in the near area are almost endless. The apartment is very spacious with big doors to the amazing view of the mountains, and an option to close it off with wooden doors to keep the light at night, or heat at day, out. Tomas and spiridoula, the owners, brother and sister, went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. Breakfast was simple, fresh and good, and when we didn't ask for breakfast, Tomas brought us coffee for the adults, milk/juice for the kids and home made cake. We also had a little fridge and a kettle and tea bags, although we knew there is no kitchen in the apartment. The place is ideal for touring the area, located between two rivers, one of them, the voidomatis, is a ten minter walk away (or 2 minutes drive), the other ten minutes drive away. Upon our arrival, Tomas gave us a simple but very useful map of hikes in the area. We did a few of them, all were great. We highly recommend spiridoula hotel, great value for money, great experience.
Cons: The rooms are very simple and the shower is minimal, and there's no Kitchen, but non of it ruined our enjoyment.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable bed and amazing terraces.
Cons: Can be a bit noisy from the passing road or the neighbors
10.0 Excellent

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good but there is no airconditioning ,and in an area of many insects there are no and at night there were. No hot water. And top it all there is a tv which doesn't work and the same goes for the kettle. The place has a lot of potencial that does not materialise itself due to silly negligance muscito nets on the windows l

Pros: Staff is very kind

Pros: Beautiful place. Most fantastic room - traditional but stylish and lovely. Our host was magnificent and friendly, making sure that all our needs were met, helping us with making plans for activities. Our daughter had a medical issue and he took care to ensure that we knew where to go and that they were expecting us. He even bought me a couple of cold beers, which he popped out to buy for me even though the hotel doesn't have a bar service! Super friendly and welcoming, we are already plotting a potential return to this beautiful place! Thank you!

Pros: Saxonis House is really something special. The owners, Anna and Vassilis, were kind and helpful, giving us tips on things to see in the area and even drawing a map for a walk we wanted to do. You can really tell that they value each and every guest and their hospitality was so genuine. Breakfast each morning was the best part of the day - loved the homemade cakes, creamy yoghurt and strong coffee! The room itself was beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and with a comfortable bed - we slept very well. The village of Megalo Papiko is just stunning and well located for exploring Vikos Gorge and the surrounding villages. There are a few excellent restaurants and for those who enjoy hiking, several trails start from the village. All in all, a perfect stay. Highly recommended!

Pros: Beautiful old building, close to all of the beautiful places in Zagori, we also ate there dinner that was delicious and not expensive. The owner is a charming helpful lady. She recommended us places in Zagori to see and in general made the stay better.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in this wonderful small guesthouse for three nights in late March. Ano Pedina is perfectly situated for exploring the Zagori region, and this old mansion has been converted to a very cozy and friendly guesthouse that meets all your needs. It is now run by a relative of the original family and she proudly describes it as one of the oldest buildings in the town that is itself hundreds of years old. A very hearty Greek breakfast is included, and you can order dinner as well. We ate Eleni's (apologies if we spell the name wrong) delicious local food for two of our three nights. Our suite was the old kitchen, and as a result it had a very interesting sitting room. The heat was more than adequate, and good wifi was available in the room (although we only expected it in the common areas). Beds were comfortable. Parking was tight but adequate. The building being old gave it great charm, but the shower was a little difficult. Nevertheless, we would go back here in a heartbeat.
Cons: Nothing, all was great!
10.0 Excellent

Cons: All was perfect
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Elleni, the owner is an amazing person that made us feel at home. She knew exactly what to recommend to each of her guests. She patiently sat with us and explained about the history of the place. Her prices were extremely reasonable and the food was delicious. especially food (vegan) - breakfast and dinner. Even if you stay somewhere else we would recommend you give her a visit and taste her amazing food. We planned to stay 2 days and stayed for 5. The area of the hotel was also great and was in the center of Zagoria so we didn't need to drive a lot to visit what we wanted. The house is restored inside and outside which gives unique expirience.
Cons: The wifi didn't work most of the time. The room was spacious but the bed itself was short and low.
