Affected by Hurricane Irma, Hawks Cay Resort underwent a very recent renovation that brought an approachable upscale vibe and never-ending list of vacation activities and amenities. Vacationing families and couple have all the bells and whistles at Hawks Cay Resort on tiny Duck Key.

Hawks Cay Resort takes up a sizable portion of the 60-acre Duck Key, halfway between Key Largo and Key West. The nearest town is Marathon, which is home to grocery stores, the popular turtle hospital, beach gear shops, the quirky Castaway Waterfront Restaurant and Sushi Bar, and Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters. Due to the secluded location, many of Hawks Cay's visitors arrive by boat and dock at the resort's marina.

While off-site activities and amenities are slim, there are endless amounts of fun on-site. From a dolphin experience to a full spa to five swimming pools to paddle boarding on the manmade lagoon, every guest has something to do. The lagoon offers plenty of watersports and offers a zero-entry beach for kids and sun loungers and umbrellas on the sand. Coral Cay features a family pool, fun pool with an interactive pirate ship, sports court, playground, restaurant, and mini-golf. Seven restaurant options are equally as varied and high quality as the on-site amenities.

The 177 rooms and suites at Hawks Cay Resort were updated in 2018 and are set in contemporary coastal décor with upscale amenities. There's also a selection of privately-owned villas to rent, perfect for families, with full kitchens and laundry facilities. Vistas range from full water view to the resort grounds and Water View Lanai Rooms have a large furnished patio with easy access to either the adult-only pool or the main resort pool.

Cons (-) Rooms weren’t cleaned daily. Only sheets and towels changed. Half the time they forgot to replace towels or coffee or something else we had to them ask for. Everything was very, very expensive.

Cons (-) It was a bit pricey but we booked late for the holidays. The food onsite was good but not excellent. You are very close to other restaurants though in Marathon and Islamorado.
