Hotel Marechiaro

The hotel had a nice "curb appeal" and the lobby was nice. and was a pleasant greeting after a long day of traveling. The room was nice and roomy, with a large and comfortable bed. The staff were as friendly and as helpful as they could be, dealing with this English speaking foreigner.

I did not at all like the "rules" that I read the day we left that said you are not allowed to have outside food or drinks in the room and are not allowed to use the "fridge" for your own items. In my life I have never heard of such a ridiculous rule. Also the Smart TV was nice, except it was the only WiFi available - even though the hotel is advertised as having WiFi available. Arrived Sunday afternoon around 5:00pm and the hotel had NO FOOD available, which doesn't help when you can't bring food into the room and have limited resources in the area. You can also not adjust the temperature in the room and the over the top "high tech" was too much. I had to go to the front desk to have the staff turn the A/C on and down to a temperature that was comfortable (arrived at 26C). The bathroom "looked" like if came from a design show, but was not so functional. The shower was odd, in that there were no walls and when running the shower, it soaked the entire bathroom. The sink was also terrible in that it had a "sensor" to turn on the water, which was difficult to keep running and the sink was only about 4" deep, which allowed water to overflow when simply washing your hands. Overall, there was so much potential, but the opportunity seems to have been lost in an attempt to be fancy.

Nice use of technology. Rooms feel quite modern, with each room having it's own private network and smart TVs. Our network wasn't working on the first day, but someone came and offered a quick solution.

A bit stingy with the breakfast. We had to kept asking for eggs, since the tray was empty (with at most just 3 tables eating) Most staff spoke only Italian (or at least no English, French, nor Spanish). The hotel was almost empty, so it would have been nice to get a room upgrade. Also, half of the hotel was under construction.
