I keep staying here and it's like my home base in Des Moines
Friendly helpful staff ready to provide assistance and guidance. Found the location in close proximity to the the airport and interstate. Dining was not the best in the vicinity of the hotel (not the hotels fault) but found the hotel's restaurant especially the breakfast to be exceptional. The breakfast wait staff were among the best I've experienced at a hotel restaurant. The suites could use an upgrade/redecoration.
The beds were super comfortable! The bathroom was tiny and the room was very noisy. We stayed on the 3rd floor and had a steady stream of noise from the elevators and traffic on 235.
Close to Downtown Des Moines and the interstate. The staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast buffet was pretty good, and everything was very clean. Our room had a great view of downtown. The room was sweltering hot the whole time (85 degrees). The staff said you could open the window, but it seemed to be locked shut with no way to open it. Thankfully one of the staff was kind enough to give us the box fan from the front desk.
Mistakes in room service meal
Big rooms Break fast, parking
Warm, European feel Cold fries with room service meal
Beautiful rooms Fireplace Chef at breakfast to make omelette and waffles to order Great breakfast selection Parking garage across the street
location to downtown activities were great. Rude Manager that would not honor an email I received that confirmed a sleeper sofa. We were up charged for a roll a way bed. The staff was not knowledgeable about downtown events or directions.
it was a beautiful hotel, superior service, with very spacious rooms I wish it could be more affordable, I would definitely stay more often.
Large, clean room Good people
The room was so luxurious & the staff was amazing! The free breakfast was delicious! We loved staying at the Hyatt! Would definitely recommend & stay there again! The difficult parking, didn't find a spot & had to use valet
Friendly and helpful staff - both front desk and valet; helpful with directions and made a couple of good restaurant recommendations; Location convenient for an event my wife and I attended during our stay and the valet shuttle included at no additional cost was helpful. Nice breakfast offerings. While I got lucky with a dynamite parking spot in front of the hotel for the weekend and didn't need to move my car, the notion of valet parking for $15 per night was distasteful (I know it can be much more in major coastal cities). Sunday morning breakfast should not end at 10 a.m. - it should run at least until 11.
The email for preferences was perfect!
Very clean, the pool was warm which was a plus. The guy in the breakfast area was a little over the top. He was a bit growley pushing people through like cattle.
Not fancy, but very clean and quiet with good amenities.
even though this is not a 4 star or a 5 star hotel the staff from day one went above and beyond to make me and my guest feel comfortable. on days that we really did not want to get going early in the morning it was nice to just lounge around there at the hotel and then in the afternoon go sightseeing. the front desk lady by the name of Lindsey was fantastic. she was awesome and really caring we actually became friends while I was staying there.
everyone there was very friendly. many amenity. very clean I cant say anything bad. it was awesome
It was a privilege to stay here. The staff was friendly abd nice, the room amazing. The hit breakfast was better then I expected. Overall awesome place.
Big room. Clean and friendly staff Limited parking
Location to Airport, Cleanliness, staff was fantastic!!!!!!
The room was clean. Breakfast included was very well done. Lots of great options offered and food was fresh. Not well updated. No ice machine in whole building. Existing ice machine has obviously been out service for weeks. There was actual dust. Room was not a good value.
It was a really nice place to stay very elegant!!! That it wasn't enough time or half set aside time for adults to use the pool area!!!
Tiki bar is always welcome. Kids, of course, had a blast in the waterpark. Front desk handled my hodgepodge of booking details without a hiccup - Brian is awesome to deal with. Staff was *VERY* strict this time. We have been coming to this hotel for years and never heard this much yelling & whistle-blowing. Not sure if there's been an incident here recently or what. My 4yr old was going down the water slides w/o issue all day long then halfway through the day got kicked off for being too little. Every time we come it seems more and more of the pirate ship is broken down and not functioning, this time it was the tunnel through the middle which my kids have always enjoyed in the past. The water was pretty cold compared to previous years as well. I saw staff taking towels out of the "dirty towels here" bins and re-folding/rolling them to stack on the shelves.
Easy access, good price. Nice bathrooms. Pillows could be better.
Love the refrigerator and microwave. Love the water slides and pool area. It wasn't too cold lime some hotels. The tiled walk in shower was really nice. Awesome shower head. I wish I would have known the hot tub wad broken when I made the reservation.
Teen age help around the swimming pool did not appreciate a dachshund walking with a leach.
Old, tired and filthy
Strangely cool, retro atrium area. Not worth anywhere near the money we paid. Really nothing to do in the nearby area, and the hotel is in desperate need of renovation. Staff was a bit "ho-hum" about everything. Pool was freezing cold and way too deep for younger kids - 9'0" in the deep end, going down sharply from 3'0" in the shallow end. My daughter is an intermediate swimmer and was confined to 1/3rd of the pool due to the depth. The "Video Arcade" features mostly broken games and there is no change machine. The term "Restaurant" is also a strong word.
The hotel was beautiful and in a great location, my room also had a great view!
Everything about this hotel was fantastic! New construction and facilities made for a great stay. The staff was respectful and accommodating in every possible fashion. Thrilled to have been able to stay here and be so close to downtown Des Moines for the Des Moines marathon! If I come back to downtown Des Moines for a weekend getaway this will be where I stay.
New so spotless, but located close to train tracks. And the trains come through overnight. We were there in February, and our fourth-floor room was overly warm. Had to turn on A/C! Our double room was smallish, but had a great river view. Staff is best feature -- courteous, solicitous and friendly. I called later about an item we left behind. They located it and helped arrange to ship it back to us. I would stay again.
I just spent the one night, but everything was nice and clean. Also the view of the river was great. I would stay here again.
Full kitchen was nice if we needed to stay longer. Apartments converted into hotel. Pool was clean. Hot tub was just warm, mold on ceiling, bad urine smell in room, no sheets or blankets or pillows for the pull out bed.
We had a leak in the kitchen area and the bath tub could use some work
Large space, friendly staff and good breakfast Road noise
It was easy to get to. You get what you pay for and I don't think I paid for house keeping because it was non existent. The toilet was stained brown, the bottom of the tub was dirty (I took a shower wearing flip flops), the floors were sticky, and the bed had a dip in the center. I had to stay here for 5 days and I would come back at the end of the work day with hair all over the bath counter, in the soap dish and in the tub. I was so grossed out that I bought my own cleaner with bleach and cleaned the room myself. It was the kind of place that I didn't want to tell the front desk because who knew what they would do to my things while I was gone. Can't say I took advantage of the breakfast that was included because if the room was any indication of what was coming out of the kitchen, I wasn't taking any chances. One good thing is that it is freeway close.... And you know that because you can hear it through the walls. Sorry, but if my company trys to puts me up there again, I'll pass and get a room somewhere else on my own dime. There are plenty other options in the area.
It was very clean and friendly Housekeeping woke up my son and my aunt even though we had no service on the door.
We really like the location and it really fits our shopping needs in the Des Moines, IA area. We stay at this location several times each year, actually every time we stay overnight in the Des Moines area. We were very disappointed with the aging condition of our room and the lack of upkeep of the property. Not only do we enjoyed staying at this location, but also at other Midwest USA locations. We were really shocked at the condition of our room!!!
The rooms were setup very nice and cozy . The staff was more than happy to help us with anything we needed and very friendly When we walked in the room and it had been cleaned but the trash had not been removed. They were quick about fixing the situation. The rooms could use some up keep
For the money, you can't get a better room, with as much space. The bath area is really private, set in the back of the room, not by the front door as per usual. Everything seemed faily clean. THe bed was not the newest but was comfortable. The common area for breakfast was very nice and attractive. WE didn't use the pool. In general the place is not being maintained. The entrance to our room was unsightly and falling apart. A bit scary actually. There is no attempt at landscaping anything. The bathroom floor was coming up where the shower water had seeped underneath. There was a spider on one of the pillows when we were getting ready for bed.
Newly renovated Exterior could use work
Free internet, breakfast, and access to a local gym are great. My non-smoking room smelled like smoke and irritated my allergies.
I really like the layout. The separate buildings gave it mountain resort feel, which I appreciated.
Updated classic hotel. Clean, great staff, quiet, close to everything. The only thing on the downside is I couldn't stay longer.
Good location, friendly staff, prompt housekeeping. No swimming pool, there was one advertised. Oddly shaped and non ergonomic room layout.
Staff was helpful and very friendly. Cleaning staff did an excellent job. My Window was cracked and had duct tape covering it. Metal mouse trap under table in breakfast room. Gross! Outer buildings falling apart.
Comfortable beds. Nice assortment on breakfast bar. The hot foods weren't as hot as they should be. Didn't see yogurt or much fruit to choose from.
Todo fue muy bueno. La Atencion del personal fueron muy ate tons en especial la del area del de saying muy cordial.
Friendly staff, right off the highway and not too far from a nice pool hall. Shower head was terrible, sink's drain was busted. It's a no smoking hotel.
Nobody stays there Keys never work, terrible cleaning service, unfriendly staff
Great value for a clean, comfortable room. It's not the nicest hotel, but they have thought of the essentials. The hotel is right by the airport, which was great for our early departure. Otherwise, it's about 15-20 minutes to get into the downtown area but the drive is easy. Everything was pretty nice. If I had to comment on one thing, the room appeared updated but the bathroom was a bit dated. It was still clean and functional, but cramped for my wife and I.
My room was right across from the ice machine and it was very loud. I would put a door on the ice machine area and put a more sound proof door on the those rooms
I was on a business trip so the downtown location worked out well for me. No
Greater location, rooms, and friendly staff. The hotel bar and staff leave a lot to be desired!
Like most Embassy Suites, a very nice property, suites with plenty of room, great beds and bedding. Very disappointed in a $10 daily charge for Wi-fi - even for Hilton Honors members (except the two highest levels). Considering other quality downtown Des Moines hotels priced similarly, but with free Wi-fi access, this is typically a difference-maker for us. Also annoying, if you miss the complimentary breakfast (finishes at 9 AM), you are charged $3 per cup of coffee -- again, unlike other similarly priced downtown Des Moines hotels. Not a deal-breaker, but still seems kind of ridiculous.
As always...the breakfast! Forced valet that did not park vehicle in a covered garage but rather on a side street during a snow storm for a $25/night charge. I was told all about the city selling parking lot to private investor who is building a parking garage but that is not my problem. If you don't have acceptable parking options don't charge me a premium to park. Inadequate parking options just aren't acceptable and we'll look for another place to stay next time.
The location - on the river (I love water), our room had a view of the river and the distance between the hotel and Nolan Plaza - our day destination - only three blocks from each other - also hotel was easy to find
Great view, lovely space. Cost: clearly had upped their rates because the bar exam was being offered in their building.
not very friendly
location was good, room was clean breakfast, as always at an Embassy, was excellent, especially great for kids. Valet parking at a very high (for the market price) was the only parking option. Room was warm and musty, didn't cool well.
Complimentary drinks, snacks and great breakfast!
Location right across airport Offer free shuttle Great breakfast Clean bug room Was able to hear big planes take off
It was very quiet and the staff was very pleasant. It is also convenient to the airport and has free shuttle service.
Room was clean and accomidating. Room was not completely stocked with the typical complimentary hygiene items, only had to ask but was inconvenient for bathing.
Besides being close to the airport and having a "free" breakfast, I really cannot say anything good about this place. The room smelled, the pool was too cold to even swim in, and it was over priced.
The website and a call to the motel in advance both stated that a crib would be available for our one year old. We were less than pleased when we arrived to find that what they meant was not actually a crib, but a pack n play. In my book, these two things are NOT equivalent. My daughter is an awesome sleeper but not accustomed to sleeping in a pack n play. If I had been told this when I called ahead earlier in the week, I would have brought ours from home, which would have been more comfortable for her. Other than this, the room and facilities were perfectly adaquate. This was our first family vacation, so having her not want to sleep until she basically passed out at 11 each night was not great for us to be able to enjoy the following day.
Nice lobby friendly Breakfast just ok. Hard to find
