Pros: Very personal and warm service. The owner speaks fluent English. She made sure that we were well taken care off. Although the pension is a bit away (~10 min walk) from the ski resort area, she drives us back and forth so it's really convenient. We highly recommend taking the breakfast and dinner package as the food is scrumptious and made mostly of seasonal local ingredients. Be prepared to eat a lot. Overall we had a fantastic stay.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had 5 days skiing at Appikogen, Pension Mutti was a great place to stay. Our host picked us up from the station I phoned a day before to to let her know what time our train arrived, took us to and from the resort everyday, a short drive, to a local restaurant one night and back to the station. The breakfasts were fantastic, really fueled up for a days skiing. Dinner was just as good, we regretted eating out one night. Pension Mutti is a great place to stay!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is my second visit to Pension Mutti. The hosts are amazing and couldn’t make your stay any easier. Beautiful place to experience. The meals, and service are fantastic. I will be back again without a doubt.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly staff, tasty food
Cons: Bit tardy emptying room bins and the room we had didn’t really provide any storage
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Fabulous and friendly staff, happy to assist guests. Great food! Warm and comfortable lodge.
Cons: A booking sheet for the downstairs bath might be a good idea.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bar! It's always a pleasure to stay at the White Rose Inn.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Thanks so much for Rob and Ayami’s generous hospitality during our stays. Made us feel like home. Even though Appi Ski Resort and the Onsen were within a 10mins walking distant away, shuttle service were provided. Already missing you guys.
Cons: 4 nights stay for us was not enough. Too soon to leave.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The atmosphere was just so relaxed and welcoming. Could not have had better accommodation or care. Pick up and drop offs at the ski resort was fab. The little bar Ollie's Folly attracts the local ex-pat skiers- really good warm fun place.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rob and Ayami are the perfect hosts and we felt like we were staying at the home of old friends.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was fantastic. Rooms clean. Beds comfortable. Dinners delicious and staff were so warm and welcoming. Felt like home.
Cons: Having to leave.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: You couldn't ask for better hosts - really made the stay amazing. Woods fire, cosy feel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is an extremely comfortable ski lodge - we stayed in a family room that was generous in size and worked perfectly for a family of four. Everything feels very new and fresh given the property has recently been renovated and the communal bathrooms are private, individual, very clean and generous in size. We loved the lounge area in which you can sit and relax, as well as the separate bar and dining room. The meals are all exactly what you want on a skiing vacation, and I could not imagine having better hosts - all our expectations were met (if not exceeded) - we knew what we wanted at this price point and it was fantastic. Take a look at the photos and if you think this place is for you - book it!
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I enjoyed the staff. It was fun talking with everyone and they were all very helpful when it came to venturing out. It was really heartwarming that they were making sure we were having a good time. Bonus: Ollie was adorable!
Cons: It was hot in the rooms and downstairs on the second day of our stay. It was easy enough to open the window and let a nice breeze into the room.

Cons: Some pre arrival information relating to shuttle services and pick up
8.0 Excellent

Pros: A great host who drove us to the ski lift each day. We were able to buy our lift tickets from the accommodation at a reduced price too!
Cons: I could feel the springs in the bed. A mattress topper would be a great improvement.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The service and the music were very good in the hotel. The breakfast was tasty. They afford also laundry to wash clothes.
Cons: It is not the disadvantage of the hotel, but the infrastructure of the village was very worst. There are no convenient shops and restaurants beside the Appi-Hotel areas.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Convenient location, good meals, good public bath facilities. Front Staff is helpful. We had a quality family time over dinner tables there.
Cons: but English is a challenge for front staff.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very Helpful with last minute booking and picking up at train station. Staff helped with figuring out ski times and transportation. Breakfast was good with very large variety. Small Onsen was awesome and it was outdoors and snow covered all around like pictures. There was even a storage locker for snow gear. Great stay!
Cons: Was unable to connect to wifi in room but could in lobby. Rooms not as luxurious as one would expect from pictures. Had to specify time to be picked up fro ski resort.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What a great value, nice indoor outdoor onsen, great breakfast, wonderful super helpful staff with shuttle service. Available private onsen reservation but no one was in the regular one. With sauna! These people are Japanese hospitality!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff arranged transportation to ski lift and train station. Accommodated a change of dates without charging extra.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent staff service.
Cons: Western style room is small. Not much walking space.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was great and were easily able to accommodate me for another night. There was a ski storage place and they had shuttles to the ski resort that you signed up in advance. The onsen and sauna were very nice and uncrowded with the outdoor one in the snow being awesome! Breakfast was just ok and didn’t eat for dinner. More of a couples foot than a solo traveler.
Cons: The WiFi signal strength was very weak and was unable to ever connect from my room. Also they do push you to eat at their own restaurant as there are not that many places around but I found a few that were very good. I also did not like having to sign up for a specific time for the bus to pickup from the ski resort and you never know how long you want to stay there! Room was smaller than anticipated for a resort as well.
7.5 Good
Pros: Spring water fountain- taste good
Cons: Little choice at dinner if you stay more than 3 days
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very good dinner and breakfast. Staff are nice and friendly.
Appi Arts Color - Hachimantai - Bedroom
7
8.5 Excellent (46 reviews)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and super helpful. The property very clean safe and has everything you need . The host is incredible Accomodating
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The service by thommo was excellent
Cons: Lifts closed due to light winds
6.3 Good
Pros: We had a room with en-suite big enough for three skiers and all our gear. The communal space was ok with open fire and central heating. The owner and staff were helpful but communication was difficult. There were very few food choices in Appi for dinner, the owner lent us the van to drive out 20 minutes to town for dinner and to shop. On another evening they drove 9 of us out for a really fabulous sashimi.
Cons: Limited food options, no food provided in lodge though there was cooking facilities which we used for Ramen packets. We had to be picked up and driven to another lodge for breakfast which was hearty enough for a morning ski but uninteresting. Dinner on offer at same location as breakfast was over priced and not very good (unaffordable on day to day basis).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Thomie Dayo, was a great host.
Cons: The breakfast not being provided on site, but transportation was provided.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We got upgraded for free to a larger room. The 2 ladies running the reception were super lovely and accommodating.
Cons: Had to pay at a seperate building 2 streets away.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were fantastic, very helpful and always available to drive us to the ski hill, station, and around town. The common area was cosy and our room was very comfortable.
Cons: Although we saw online that dinner cost about 4000 JPY, we thought that was too expensive for us and assumed we would be able to go out for dinner elsewhere. Unfortunately though, Appi Kogen as a whole doesn’t have many restaurant options other than the very expensive ones at the Appi Grand Hotel. Also, not that this really bothered us, but breakfast and dinner are served at a sister pension around the corner and required staff to shuttle people to and from here in mornings and evenings.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Our accomodation was not really walking distance to the ski area, but we were picked up each day by our host and driven to the base area. Also, picked up at the end of each day. Fabulous service. Breakfast was at another Pension, but once again, we were collected and dropped back to our accomodation each morning. Nothing was too much for Tommo!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hospitality outstanding!
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It felt like home, if my parents were better with money and bought a chalet 20 years ago.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendly and helpful hostess, nice fireplace, arranged for dinners and transport easily. Rooms are fairly big. Easy if you have a car....parking out front. Good wifi. Arranged for nice dinner at nearby Rocky restaurant....would recommend.
Cons: Beds a bit too hard (but not unusual for Japan)

Cons: A lots of Chinese tourist with bad manner in onsen and don’t even care the rules of how to use onsen . 8.0 Excellent
Pros: Even small house, they provided family onsen or individual onsen. You can relax after a long day travel.
Cons: Only one toilet for male and 1 toilet for female. Please schedule your time to use toilet in the early morning.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The place was spotless.
Cons: The place did not have a drying room and there was no heater in my room, so drying my ski gear at the end of the day was very difficult. The place uses floor heating, but it was set to a temperature that was too low, so I was cold during my entire stay. To dry my gear I had to lay it on the floor of my room all night, which took up all the space. That's fine for drying gloves and ski pants, but my towel - yuk!! It was also impossible to dry my boots. The common area had the heater set to fifteen degrees Celsius, so I couldn't sit comfortably and watch television. In the morning I couldn't wait to put on my cold, wet boots and get out of there. On a side note, there was a sign in the toilet that said no pissing standing up, but hey ... some rules are meant to be broken.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner and manager of Onsen Yasumori has been extremely helpful in preparing our trip and giving directions. At our arrival, he has been very gracious and helpful. 6.3 Good
Pros: A good Isikaya but hard to get in when busy.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: The size of the room is wide enough for 3 people. Outdoor Onsen is a great experience.
Cons: There is no air conditioner in the room because the weather here is cool --> freezing for the whole year. It's not convenience to go there by bus. A better choice is renting a car ,you can go to Hachimantai Asptite Line from here. It take about 30 mintues.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The location is next to mountains, but far from city
Cons: The room is outdated, running down. Bugs were flying everywhere even windows were closed
7.0 Good
Pros: Comfortable.
Cons: It is difficult to find location.
4.3 Okay
Pros: Location is beautiful. Check in and check out were fast and easy.
Cons: The 'non-smoking' room smelled strongly of tobacco. It was clear that the previous guest had smoked in the room. Walls were stained with tobacco smoke and this could be seen where furniture had been moved. When I called reception they senr someone to spray the room. Room carpet and furniture was stained and dirty. Public bath was adequate, but toiletries were of lowest possible standard. Restaurant wait staff did just that 'wait'. Not sure what they were waiting for... but there were many standing around at breakfast. Buffet was not replenished and choices were wide but of average to poor quality. I've stayed in many Daiwa branded hotels and this is by far the poorest. Hotel needs serious refurbishment and staff needs to be trained in customer service.
