The view from the window was the only thing I liked.
The ryokan is super cold in winter. I was there in January and the whole building was cold. It took us hours before the room gets heated so we actually can sit inside. Went to few other ryokans on my Road trip in Japan and they were way better prepared for the winter chill.
Lovely location, close to a couple of great museums (walking distance). Super food and some English spoken.
As others noted, some parts are in a poor state of repair (especially ceilings). But room was nice and the onsen (we had a villa with private pool) was nice. Not luxury but reasonable.
Meals were exquisite, many courses and each delicious. Outdoor onsen was beautiful, hot and clean. Staff were delightful and helpful. The building and environment were idyllic and picturesque.
The road was just outside (10m) from the outdoor onsen, but separated by a screen and trees. The location was not as convenient as being nearer Gora, adding an extra leg to your journey.
Very friendly staff, excellent food
True Ryokan experience in Japan, very traditional rooms with onsen shower rooms. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Located on the bus route from the train station so easy to get to. Onsen was a lovely experience.
Not a bad experience but just for other travelers to be aware that there are no showers in the room as this is a traditional Ryokan meaning there is only shared showers (separated male and female).
