Friendly, helpful and eager to please
Friendly staff, clean and tidy room and hotel. Very good breakfast. None
My wife and I thourougly enjoyed our 4day stay at The Woodlands,so much so that it was a difficult decision not to extend our visit by another day.The room we had overlooking the back garden was very large and very comfortable, the shower was excellent, and the breakfasts cooked by Chris were the best English breakfasts my wife and I have ever tasted. We found the proprietors at the Woodlands very friendly and amiable and all these factors really combined to make our visit one to remember, and we will certainly return again in the future
The nice owners/staff.They made you feel at home, nothing was to much for them. The room we had was comfortable and had all one could want.Breakfast very good and prompt.Very clean and tidy.
Friendly staff, clean comfy room, WIFI and an excellent breakfast Car park is small but room on the road to park
Deluxe rooms spacious, big and comfortable bed and english breakfast superb. Pillows could have been a bit better but better than other hotels I have stayed in. Staff extremely friendly, informative and helpful. not sure if smaller rooms would suit. heating not 24/7. no bath in ensuite. No seating lounge or relaxation seating in room. Weather turned very cold, wet and extremely windy weather during our stay and there was nonwhere suitable to relax.
friendly, helpful service. good breakfast, nice room.
Helpful and friendly hosts who provided a marvellous breakfast, and could also organise a packed lunch if required. Well maintained and spotless B&B. Excellent location away from the noise on the quayside (but only 5 minutes walk away). Great pub across the road that had real ales and good food.
The room was spotlessly clean. We were not disturbed during our stay and full english breakfast was wonderful. Hosts were friendly and atmosphere good. Hotel was brilliant but walk to quay is down a hill, well worth the walk however, up hill on way back might prove too much for some.
very nice staff and good breakfast. A good base for touring area
Friendly service - and attention to detail
Plenty of parking, friendly people & decent coffee with breakfast.
Made very welcome, beauiful room with a wonderful view, best breakfasts i've had in a long time There were no bad points
frendly helpfull staff verycleen and well maintained throuout would recomend this hotel to anybody the breakfast was very good also i cant think of anything
The hotel owners are a wonderful couple who can't do enough to help - thanks to the weather and the cancellation of the Oldenburg we were able to enjoy a second night of their warm hospitality and amazing breakfast!
Atention to detail by owners No late notice evening meals available
Room very nice - we had a family room for 5 which was almost 2 adjoining rooms, so it was nice to be separate from the children at night. Breakfast was fab - everything fresh and cooked to order. Good location for the beach and walking around the town and harbour. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our bed was really really hard. Everything else was fab.
Proximity to RC Church Lack of bedside lighting - Supplied on request
Close proximity to town centre, Jacuzzi Bath! Needed some dusting in room!
Good sized family room Inadequate parking . Restaurant not open for evening meals . No where to hang wet towels in the bathroom.
the location in the town and proximaty to the seafront no towel rack in the bathroom, only a minor faultbut where dare you expected to hang youe wet towels?
Friendly welcome, comfortable room and good breakfast. Disappointed due to restaurant not open for evening meals.
close to stunning beach and harbour all within walkin distance needs updating and modifing the hotel was not as we expected or as discribed
Clean and comfortable and good breakfast My girlfriend and I found the mattress on the double bed was uncomfotable and well passed its sell by date.
the hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. brilliant location in the town centre. the breakfast was very good
friendly staff, clean comfortable room
Very few No bedside lights. No tea, coffee making facilities (kettle and cups supplied but no tea bags etc. Very poor value for money.
Only appeared to be one staff member on when we arrived but he was very friendly considering that he was trying to run the bar and deal with us as well. Room was tidy and clean as was shower and toilet etc It took a bit of time to get to our room because of form filling and busy single staff member - after a long drive you really need to get to your room asap. Alarm went off about 7am. Was asked us to fill in a form on arrival which required my card details and pin number to be written down (I refused). I don't consider that to be at all safe or secure. There was no problem regarding that however with the manager.
Made very welcome. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Clean, comfortable, good sized room. Good choice of food for breakfast, very well cooked and served. Nothing too much trouble.
Lovely Rooms with nice views, Warm and friendly greeting when we arrived, Friendly staff, Excellant Breakfast, 20 min walk into town. Everything was fine - if anything we wished we could have stayed longer !
The owner, Nicky, was very welcoming. She gave us good advice on where to eat and gave us info on taxis. Epchris House is exceptionally clean and has lots of little personal touches which makes it a home from home. The view across the valley is really lovely. Our breakfast was excellent and there was great attention to detail in everything this lovely guest house has on offer - a real treat!
Exellent room very good food and made to feel welcome owner helpful
The friendliness of the owner was lovely and nice to be offered choice of rooms. The grounds were super but would need longer there to enjoy the garden and pool. After delicious breakfasts we spent our two days exploring lfracombe.
Very nice rooms, bar and breakfast room. Nice distance from town (but not in bustle) Outside of building a bit shabby. Limited parking for anyone with walking problems
exellent hosts, exellent breakfasts, lovely room, spotlessly clean and attention to detail
Personal, friendly & attentive service. Good size, light & airy bedroom. Very clean bedroom/bathroom. Car park/entrance a bit awkward........but owners very new & may address in time.
Being able to walk into Ilfracombe so didn't have to take car. The friendliness of the owners and the lovelly breakfasts they provided.
Lovely house and people, excellent breakfast. February visit and bathroom cold - showering uncomfortable because of this - needs bigger, hotter radiator or underfloor heating.
dreamy but weather let it down a bit dark entrance at night
Peaceful and secluded situation. Friendly owner. Did not see his wife and there did not appear to be any other staff. This should really be classed as a B&B as there was no restaurant and only a part-time bar. Our room was Superior but was small and only had very small shower room. Did not like sharing a table with other guests at breakfast. We were not asked what we would like for breakfast and were just given full English which I did not want. I would have preferred boiled or scrambled eggs
the owners where very friendly and good location
The hotel staff were always really friendly and helpful, rooms were clean and the location was beautiful and peaceful with good access to the surrounding area. Albeit the hotel is not in the middle of town, which means a short taxi ride in the evening, but staying in such a beautiful location with that country house feel more than compensated. I am looking to going back.
Adequate accommodation, Very average. Would not recomend it, or stay again. Cold, uninviting and lacking in atmosphere. Basic and simple, clearly run on basic, minimal resources. Odd 'front of house' personel.
The hotel was very quiet, relaxing and in a wonderful location. The owners were very helpful and polite. The breakfast's were presented wonderfully and the food was excellent. On first impression I was disappointed about the appearance of the hotel as it looked 'tired'. The room we had been allocated had unforunately been double booked so we were upgraded to a superior room at no extra cost but I was disappointed that there wasn't a shower but a bath instead.
a very relaxing hotel in lovely surroundings very peacfull food very good.will stay again.
We loved the location and the quietness of this hotel as it was wonderfully situated in a lovely wooded valley. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Excellent choice of menu offered for breakfast and evening meal is highly recommended.
The 'Superior En suite' room was a laugh. The 'shower room' no bath, was so tiny there was very little space. Also the entrance to the shower room was via a folding door not a solid room. Certainly the Superior en suite room was not superior and not worth the rate as quoted.
The Hotel was very clean and well furnished, the owners were very proffesional and tended to any requirements. The location is beautiful and within easy reach of Ilfracombe. A very short window to have breakfast.
The hotel required up dating.
Visited local places of interest and enjoyed going to the old harbour
Very clean with friendly, helpful staff Plumbing was a bit noisy
Being very close to harbour and shops; staff very helpful and friendly; very quiet even though pubs etc close by
Everything was perfect for us, especially the views from our room. I would have appreciated an internet connection.
The location, being a 'Stones Throw' from the Harbour was great for our weekend break. The friendly staff were able to give us information on local coast walks. The breakfast provided was very good. The place could do with some re-decoration but was fine for our needs for a weekend stay.
Location close to harbour, reasonable value, wide choice in restaurant. Restaurant was very busy one night and as a result the service was slow. We were given free drinks to compensate for this.
Nice side room clean and bright. Excellent for harbour. Good breakfast. Soap was not provided or any other cleanser only body lotion
Nice & friendly home from home atmosphere.
Lovely room and friendly welcoming atmosphere and staff.
The view It is very rundown. The floors sloped, the bed was very hard and uncomfortable, the curtains were faded and dirty and the patio doors were stuck with gaffer tape. The bathroom was smelly with no enamel on the bath so was dirt stained. Needs refurb!!
Great location, clean and large room In need of refusbishment
Great location with wonderful views across the beach. Good room, we were in one with a four poster bed. Great bathroom with giant bath. Clean tidy and well decorated. Also very pleasant leisure facilities with pool, jacuzzi and steam room The staff seemed very keen to repeat the fact that a jacket, shirt and tie were required for dinner, with jeans and trainers not being allowed which was very clearly worded on the web site. At the grand old age of 50 I feel capable of reading and appearing suitably attired without reminders. There was also a question as to whether I realised it was £36 each for dinner? Having paid just under £500 for two nights b&b I felt it unecessary to question my abilty to pay. Having made more than one ref to the dress code it was interesting to note that 4 of the 6 couples dining near us all had jeans on? Unfortunately the dinner itself was also dreadful. A very unusual menu selection was then delivered badly. Our starter and main was fish and the menu stated boldly that all vegetables and dishes were lightly cooked. Unfortunately both items had been overcooked, kept on a plate under a hot lamp and prepared before we had sat at our table. We asked the waitress to remove the main course without eating it and indicated that there was nothing else on the menu that was remotely appealing. The waitres was very surprised, said that she was surprised and indicated how unusual it was,. The plates went and we did not see another member of the restauarant team again for the whole evening. (Not even to apologise let alone perhaps offer coffee?)it was also disapointing that the whole £72 was still on my bill when we checked out despite the receptionist being aware of our dissatisfaction. There was apparently no one on the hotel staff able to take responsibilty for offering a reduction in the cost. All complaints were required in writing to the hotel owner who is the only person who can make these decisions when she visits once a week? Also there appeared to be lack of communication as I had been emailed directly by reception prior to travelling asking me if I wanted to book a table because they were busy. I replied, requested a table for 8 pm and received a reply saying that it had been made ( plus a reminder that no jeans were allowed and I must wear a jacket and tie) unfortunately no note had been made? Perhaps we should have taken this as a sign
the location is excellent, good standard of rooms, friendly staff and steam room! A touch to expensive and the spa could do with updating.
Room was perfect with a wonderfully luxurious bathroom and superb view
watching the sun go down and sharing a bath with a close friend.
Excellent restaurant, breathtaking views and peace and quiet. Also excellent leisure centre - pool and hot tubs. Decor not quite perfect - the odd corner of peeling wallpaper, the odd light bulb not working. The bar never seems to be staffed. I thought the 'Maitre D's manner like that at McDonalds, I.E. saying all the things but with no sincerely. Apologies if this is just a mistaken impression.
Comfortable quality furnishings and great bathrooms Nothing
Location was stunning. Very friendly, efficient staff. Excellent food with a very welcome option of having it cooked in a more 'plain' manner, which older people prefer at times. Hotel getting very slightly 'tired'. Weather was awful, but not hotels fault.
Good Location, Well decorated rooms, modern bathroom.Plenty of Car Parking, Excellent Breakfasts' Outdated Dress code for Dinner. No changing Facilities for indoor pool etc.
Fabulous views from all public rooms. Our bedroom and bathroom. Could sit in the bath and have a sea view.
The warm welcome from the staff when booking in and throughout our stay, the wonderful sea view from our room and the excellent food.
