7.9 Good
Pros: Beautiful location
Cons: Being all inclusive, food was poor. Beer and wine choices, only 2. Wine was aweful, I dont like craft beer so Budweiser was the other choice, being in Colombia I expected Aguilla. Staff wasn't the friendliest either. Check in was very chaotic, ruined my day 1 pool time.

7.9 Good
Pros: Very relaxing. Not crowded.
Cons: The pool for guests is so salty that our kids wouldn’t use it because it hurt their eyes so much.
6.7 Good
Pros: Despite overall disappointing experience: very comfortable room and nice staff
Cons: The entire experience was very disappointing. The hotel claim blue water and white beach but you don’t really get them. You arrive at 10am with the daily visitors (who only stay at the hotel for the day) with 4 boats fully packed. You don’t get your room before 3pm, so you can’t really be at ease. If you want to arrive later you will have to pay an extra fee. All activities (which are anyway limited to 3) were depending on the daily visitors. So every activity is crowded. You go snorkeling with 40people. There is no opportunity to go to the Rosario islands, no activity for the hotel guests. Many people staying at the hotel were disappointed and felt trapped without being able to do anything. Considering the price for one night this definitely not meeting expectations.
7.1 Good
Pros: Let's start saying that it is not easy to evaluate our staying here. First of all, we decided to book 4 days here due to the fact we had to cancel our trip to Providencia due to bad weather conditions, and we HAD to find an alternative very quickly. We were looking for secluded beaches, no mass tourism, crystal waters where to spend 4 days in paradise. Hotel Isla del Encanto does not match even one of the above :-( OUR BUNGALOW: we had a great sea-facing Bungalow, spacious and clean. 2 very comfortable beds, a very beautiful terrace, flowers and birds around us. SWIMMING POOL: The swimming pool area is very nice, and only hotel guests have access here. The staff members are helpful and friendly, and the entire resort is incredibily clean and very well mantained. There is a wonderful big tropical tree just in front of the reception which give shadow and repair to guests and birds and also a quite comfortable restaurant area, also for guests only. SERVICES: The snorkeling agency operating is this resort is also really really professional. We did both snorkeling and buceo and the instructor/guide was always focused on our safety. They also provide some very good underwater videos and pictures with their GoPro and first class gears too.
Cons: HOTEL BEACH: The hotel beach is a small, overcrowed, suffocating beach. It is the place where both Hotel guests and people coming with organized day-trips hang out, so for me that was a NO-GO, and decided to lay down by the pool instead (which is good, more exclusive, and above all, a place where only hotel guests are allowed to stay) The water also was disappointing. It was nothing special. No caribbean at all! Sands + hundreds of people swimming in a very small beach makes the water very opaque. What a delusion considering we were expecting something similar to Providencia :-( SERVICES: The Hotel is part of a busy and very crowded day-trips from Cartagena. Every day from 3 to 5 boats full of people arrive at this place at 10 am and leave at 3 pm. It's a mess. So if you want to be alone with only the sea waves sound in your ears, this is not the right place. Loud music and children screams all day long. Moreover, it looked to me that the hotel services and staff were much more dedicated to people part of the daily trips from Cartagena rather that regularests, and that was also quite disappointing. Once you are in the Hotel, you have 3/4 activities to choose: snorkeling, diving, or visiting the acquarium. All these activites are shared with the daily-trip guests too. No chance to have a private snorkeling tour in Isla Grande, or organize something by yourself. You may feel a bit locked up. FOOD & BEVERAGES: As Italian, my standards are quite high, I know. I don't want to look too demanding, so I just say the food quality here was AVERAGE. After 3 days we had basically the same food every day I have noticed that other guests were having lobsters and grilled fresh fishes, while I only had what available at buffet. We discovered that there was the opportunity to try different (and better) food (like langustines, lobsters, red snappers, etc..) at an extra price.
7.5 Good
Pros: Very nice location, nice room and nice staff
Cons: Tourists come from Cartagena only for the day and there are many many people from 10 am till 3 pm, which makes the place not so cool and a bit dirty. But it's a very nice place when they have all gone. Also good to know : the pool is with salted water (very very salted)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything from food to customer service Everything about this place was on point Customer services is in another level We stayed to see the sunrise and they send us coffee near the water
Cons: The daily visitors other than that this place is magic
Hotel Isla del Sol - Isla Grande del Rosario - Outdoors view
4
8.7 Excellent (1,053 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Hotel Isla Del Sol in Rosario Islands, you'll be on the beach and convenient to Isla Grande Beach and Rosario Islands Oceanarium. Featured amenities include luggage storage and coffee/tea in a common area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was amazing. We really had a good time kayaking we went all the way around the island and would stop to look at fish in the clear waters
Cons: Only thing was they were finishing a little construction. As well as they need to swap out their scuba diving tanks. There was a taste to the air in the tanks while scuba and that isn't good for your lungs.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice environment, Nice activities, Good food
Cons: After 3 PM it is more quite as day tourists leave, however also 90% of staff seemed to have left: we could not have chips around 5:30pm for apero (while they have it but only sell this between 10am-3pm for day tourists), so they actually sent us to the shop closeby. Also No drinks possible in the evening in the bar
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: The kayaks : to run away from the 60 daily noisy visitors. Bad experience and no answer from the hostel when we decided to contact them about wat happened...
Cons: Paradise ? : NO ! - 50-60 daily visitors come everyday (from 10 am to 3 pm) and the staff does not take care of its full border clients anymore (the team let us eat the food for the daily visitors (a very bad quality buffet) instead of the food we were supposed to eat, we didn't get the dessert of the lunch on the second day (because the staff were "overbooked by all these 60 visitors" - manager's words) - loud music, far from the quiet little paradise discribed - staff that is not really nice with clients : on our last night, we decided to realize a night activity : the guy in charge of the activities took us to the place and however all our efforts to discuss and make the atmosphere better, he has been very unpleasant with us (refusing to turn on the light during our night walking tour where there were a lot of big crabs and branches on which we almost many time!) - All the drinks we had were served in disposable paper glass (cf pictures) and the lunchtime dessert were quite ridiculous (cf pictures). In the backgroung of these pictures you will also see all the visitors and understand how envasive and noisy it was. It was a very disappointed experience, not recommended. Très mauvaise expérience, pas recommandé. Mala experiencia, te aconsejo encontrar un otro lugar para disfrutar de las islas del Rosario.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Relax, panorama, chance to buy lobsters and other fresh fish from the local fishermen who stay in the boats in front of the hotel (ask for Oscar and his friends!)
Cons: Daily trip of external people assaulting common areas (swimming pool) without any privacy for hotel guests from 10am to 3pm
5.8 Okay
Cons: We received the room at 3:45 pm instead of 3 pm. The room was wet and even in the morning the floor wasn’t dry and we also slipped twice.
7.1 Good
Pros: Very quiet when the boat has left after 3 O clock. Good food
Cons: Bad communication about tours, No good English Spoken, sometimes difficult
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had an amazing time. The staff was amazing and helpful. The location is beautiful and so relaxing. It's so quiet and beautiful after the day trippers leave around 3. Feels like a private island paradise all to yourself. Would love to go back. I only stayed one night, but 2 or 3 nights would be ideal. Highly recommend.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We loved the location of the room to the beach and the set up of the porch so we could watch the sunsets each night. The resort was beautiful and very picturesque. The staff were wonderful and very helpful with our needs but it is essential that you know a little bit of Spanish to help with communication. We did not have any issues with the day trippers and were always able to find a place to sit where we wanted. We took the kayaks out both days and had a wonderful time with that and took advantage of the excursions.
Cons: Our only wish and suggestion would be for the staff to help the guests with excursion set ups as that part was a little bit confusing. The room had very basic amenities which was to be expected but may be alarming to those who expect more like hot water. We did have some bugs though it wasn’t a huge issue but could be alarming to some. Since it was low season there were very little guests at the resort which was nice but could be a little boring if you stayed longer than 3 nights

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Tremendously friendly and accommodating staff. Clean accommodations and grounds.
7.9 Good
Pros: Luis was great and extremely accommodating. Beautiful property, a little oasis
Cons: There were issues checking out, booking.com and them need to communicate better. Some of the items weren’t available as expected, like plankton tour. Food service took a very long time.
6.3 Good
Pros: Loved the location, the remoteness. Staff was great, very helpful and personal. Did absolutely enjoy the beautiful location.
Cons: Place seemed a bit run down compared with the pictures on booking.com. Could use some new chairs. Bit overpriced.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Luis is a great host. People here makes you feel you are family it’s not like you rent a place it’s like you own it for a while. Go to the deck and connect with the sea is a must. I have to come back and stay for a whole week. Refreshing experience. Not to mention the food which is fresh and delicious. The perfect mix of fancy and natural environment. The room was perfect I slept like a baby.
Cons: What is not to like??
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Many thanks to all the staff, everyone was very kind with us. The food was excellent (thank you for the homemade ice cream!), we enjoyed so much the boat trip organized by the hotel to go snorkeling. The room was very clean, the decoration of the common areas is very well done. The fact that there is only 4 rooms + a lot of common areas to relax is a huge plus.
Cons: Nothing! Just to mention that during the days there is music from the boats staying in the bay, but this has nothing to do with the hotel itself.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A very unique and special place. The staff is amazing. If you want pampered luxury this is not your place. If you want an unforgettable experience, it is. Indididualized attention is the rule of the house — with only four rooms it is amazing.
Cons: A softer pillow would be nice. Other than that — perfect
9.2 Excellent
Pros: It is a lovely place, very cozy, eco-friendly in the middle of the green Barú. The service was excellent, very personalized as it is a small hotel with few rooms. All the staff was very attentive and always very helpful, and made of our stay a wonderful time. They gave us useful suggestions and help us to organize activities at Rosario Islands.
Cons: The noice coming from the party boats located at El Cholon!!! Although it’s far from the hotel you can hear the loud music and it can be really annoying, specially during weekends. From around 10 am to 6 pm the peaceful environment is sadly disturbed by these boats. A pity because Barú is a natural reserve and authorities should ban these party boats.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff helpful and kind, food delicious, free kayak. Sometimes good wifi. There is always water, electricity from 6pm to 6.30am (after no fan).
Cons: They charged me a fee (10%) to stay on the beach but they didn’t in another hostel, so....?
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location and staff were great
Cons: Noise outside the room until late at night, people that work in the hostal should have said something to the people making all the noises
7.9 Good
Pros: Amazing beach, really great owner, tasty food, awesome experience
Cons: NA
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and service quality. Mr Guillermo is the best.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Literally nothing
Cons: Dark damp rooms, poor sanitation, ineffective mosquito nets. The photo is nothing like the room we stayed in
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owner is a friendly, kind and helpful man. I loved my second storey room with a balcony and hammock. It’s very rustic ie cold water, trickle shower but that’s what it’s like on Playa Blanca. There’s a double bed and mosquito net Really enjoyed my stay
Cons: Nothing!!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Always ask the owners! They are super helpful with bookings, tours, informations etc!! Very very nice guys!!
Hostal El Parche de Alex - Barú - Beach
7
8.6 Excellent (70 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at El Parche De Alex Baru in Cartagena, you'll be on the beach and minutes from Blanca Beach, and close to National Aviary of Colombia. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours).
6.3 Good
Pros: The staff was really nice and welcoming. The atmosphere was really friendly and not at all greedy & touristic like is felt around the island. The bed was super comfy!
Cons: The facilities are really basic & simple. Could be made a bit more comfy with various details...Food was not served there, and what was called "Shared kitchen" was in effect only the ability to use the kitchen's ustensiles etc.,without cooking.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, not too quiet or not too busy. Nice rooms and good breakfast, no wifi
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location is amazing, right on the beach. We slept next to the sea for three nights. Gabrielle the owner will make you feel at home and look after you well. This is a place were you can totally unwind and relax. Beers and food here are good and fairly priced compared to the rest of the beach. We did the night time plankton tour from the hotel it was the best plankton we had ever seen. The water is amazing and warm, the beach is well looked after and there is plenty of room to relax on sun beds/hammocks. Me and my partner stayed here for three nights and had a n amazing time. Showers are fresh water each day from buckets but we didn’t mind this and it added to the authenticity of it all. The place runs off a generator at night time so you can charge phones ect. There is no WiFi which was a treat. You can also use snorkelling equipment from the hotel free of charge and snorkel off the beach. If you want the beach pretty much to yourselves try and head here Monday to Friday and avoid weekends, as it gets a lot busier with local tourists on weekends. We paid 50,000 COP for a return bus from Cartagena to this beach Playa Blanca, however you can also take a boat for a similar price. On the beach make sure you haggle for EVERYTHING!!! The cheapest drinks and food are from the people selling you stuff on the beach. This place has a sense of being off the beaten track (the gringo trail) we met few gringos on this beach. All I can say is I hope you enjoy as much as we did! Thanks guys for an amazing and unforgettable stay.
4.6 Okay
Pros: This is family owned hostel, the family memebers are very nice and helpful.
Cons: 1. They don't open the kitchen to public use. 2. They have limited on the water and electricty supply. You will only has electric power between 1830 and 2330 and you have only around 2L water to shower per day.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Located right on a beach paradise, Eduardo and Elizabeth are the most amazing hosts! So helpful and accommodating , nothing is too hard! If I ever come back I will definately be staying with them again. Can’t recommend them enough.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location just 5 meters from the beautiful beach. Excellent food, very friendly and helpful crew. The very best value for money.
Cons: It was over too quickly.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: I hated my entire experience.
Cons: THIS PLACE HAS BED BUGS. So unless you want to throw away everything you own, do not stay here. No electricity at ALL until 8pm and it’s on until 11:30pm. I couldn’t sleep because I felt like I was baking in that hut. I thought I bought the ocean view but they put you in one in the back unless you pay more once you get there. Absolutely terrible.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, great staff
Cons: The hostal is lovely and the staff are great, food is affordable but unfortunately the first night we had our backpacks robbed from our room with money and passports in. We were under the impression that there would be someone there all the time but when we got back to the hostal everything was dark. It was unfortunate as it could have been a good experience. Be careful with your belongings clearly there is a problem in the area with theft of tourist.
Ecohotel El Hamaquero - Isla Grande del Rosario - Outdoors view

8.4 Excellent (425 reviews)
Overview Reviews
When you stay at Eco-hotel El Hamaquero in Rosario Islands, you'll be near the beach and convenient to Isla Grande Beach and Rosario Islands Oceanarium. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and laundry facilities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice staff!! Also they rent out snorkeling gear for free which none of the other hostels do! All of the people working there have been incredibly and authentically friendly!!
Cons: I usually like to cook myself so I was missing a kitchen but I guess that's due to being on an island rather than due to the hostel itself
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful water, amazing staff, good food. Everything was sooo peaceful. Really great to relax!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place! We loved our room, the hammocks, the staff was super kind, we had amazing tours, it was all so relaxing and beautiful. They can teach you how to scuba dive, you can rent kayaks, bikes and sup boards and they have nice food on the site. If you want to go to town, they help you find your way. The only negative point was the noise of the dogs in the night, but that’s more an island thing than specifically of this hotel.
6.3 Good
Pros: The room we stayed in had a beautiful view of the ocean. There was a large hammock big enough for two people to relax and read a book while listening to the waves crash. Also they provide basic snorkeling gear which is a nice added bonus.
Cons: The bed wasn't the comfiest and the mosquito net was not big enough, which caused it to simply lay on top of our bodies making it extremely uncomfortable. They should provide a mosquito net big enough to cover the entire bed so it does it's job properly. We ended up having to push it aside and did get bitten by mosquitoes, which is unfortunate. Also the food was a bit pricy and not the best. I wouldn't recommend the seafood pasta, though the friend shrimp was tasty and so was the chicken. The happy hour is unclear. There was a sign stating it is from 6:00pm-7:00pm and 8:00-9:00pm but when we asked to order happy hour at 8 we were told it is only at six. Two girls told us the man at the bar the previous two nights gave them happy hour at 8. Consistency is key. Also it should be made clearer on booking.com that all the rooms have a shared bathroom, this was not clear so we booked a more expensive room expecting a private bathroom which is not the case. I think we a few upgrades this hotel would be great!
3.0 Mediocre
Cons: Overall we didn’t unfortunately enjoy our stay. The place looked a lot different than on the pictures, it wasn’t really clean, nothing much to do and the prices for Kajak/and tours were way too high. The island itself is really small with the next real beach being 45 Minute trail walk away. The food also wasn’t really the nicest, my friend got sick after eating the chicken. Besides one person the staff wasn’t really paying attention to guests either. Wouldn’t recommend staying there if you’re looking for a relaxed beach getaway.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The food was awesome, especially the fried fish, which is amazingly fresh.
Cons: For this price, almost nothing - just be aware that the power is only for the lights and fans. Cell phones can't be charged there.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Free snorkeling equipment, good location to explore the island, nice place to relax
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The restaurant had good food, there were delicious cocktails, and the hostel was quiet and tranquil. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. This side of the island seemed to be a bit more rough than the other side, but it was easy to walk to some of the beaches and explore the island. There were beautiful sunsets and the price seems good for what you get! Loved this place and would stay here again!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place, nice and funny people, wonderful snorkeling place, and the private room was amazing !
Cons: The Wifi was a bit slow but you don’t really need it in such paradise island. Easy to be lost in the forest, think about taking a picture of the map ahah
Barú Playa Eco-Beach Resort - Barú - Pool
9
8.4 Excellent (273 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Barú Playa Eco-Beach Resort in Cartagena, you'll be on the beach, and 8.6 mi (13.9 km) from Blanca Beach and 30 mi (48.3 km) from Jaime Moron Stadium. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available on request).
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place, really quite remote (which we loved) but still easy to get to. The staff was super helpful and friendly, lunch and dinner was great, breakfast a little sparse. It was such a relaxed place for us, traveling with three little kids. We were the only guests with kids during our stay.
Cons: What broke my heart were two beautiful birds in a tiny, tiny cage - so unnecessary in many ways, especially considering the beautiful wildlife.. Breakfast was ok but has definitely some room for improvement. Maybe one hangout area for rainy days (happened to us) would be nice
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We, as a couple, had an extremely pleasant week at this hotel. We particularly liked the beautiful quiet and uncrowded place (about 7 or 8 rooms and some outside visitors during the day - between 10 and 3pm-) ideal for some rest, between sunbathing, swimming and cocktails. Our room was spacious, comfortable, quiet and very clean. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. The hotel offers a few excursions and activities (relatively costly but still reasonable). Transport between the airport and the hotel (taxi and lancha) is very well organised and flexible but remains a bit expensive (we paid 500k pesos for round trip).
Cons: Transportation from the airport to the hotel was a little expensive. But very efficient anyway!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Luife our waiter was terrific and very helpful, especially as our Spanish is limited.
Cons: The food and drink were adequate with generous portions, but more diverse options would have been appreciated.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location at the end of the Baru presquile. Few people in the hotel Calm and beautiful playa
Cons: May be too many extra services...may be more could be included
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Personnel, good bed. Everything perfect. Food, big rooms, confortable beds, personnel really nice. Joseph, lidia . Really Kind. Anette, your cooking was absolutely amazing. Very quiet place. No music no noise. Just the sea . Perfect if you want to just relax. Amazing for snorkling.
Cons: Drinking water should be included. There should be special price in drinks for guests staying at the hotel, since they are expensive if you are from Colombia

Pros: Staff, beach, infrastructure, and fooooood. A hidden gem.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great place, private beach and Manuel will take care of everything you need to make you feel confortable. Mercedes was the chef and she really knows how to cook tradicional dishes. Is was and amazing experience and we will definitely come back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The house, the location, the food so everything else was great. Really great. Feels like paradise.
Cons: We were picked up at the airport in the late afternoon and with a private boat we arrived at the house. All very comfortable. However the costs for this service were a bit high compared to the costs for the house.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The house has an absolutely outstanding location several hundred meters away from the next one (if any). A very friendly, local family caters for you. Bring your own food; they cook for you - otherwise the trip on foot/boat to the the bit run-down village (various small but sufficient mercados and fresh fruit) is worthwile for being very adventurous and instructive. In the alternative, you can walk approx. 10 minutes along the beach to a hotel with good cooking. We travelled to the house by taxi from Cartagena (COP 120'000 one way for 2 adults, 2 children) and chartered a boat at Playetas (COP 170'000 one way) a bit further southwest from Playa Blanca; the road appears to get very bad thereafter; you would need a 4WD that will only bring you to the village of Barú from which you would still have to walk or take a boat). You can use a kayak and venture along the coastline. Do not try to debark at the estate at the tip of Barú Peninsula to the right; it is owned by a wealthy guy, and armed guards will fend you off.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Most incredible location ever. Very private and the staff helps make it enjoyable with local cooking.
Cons: It wasn't clear that running water on the island is a challenge. Showers we're almost non-existent due to the limited water supply and pressure. Also... Manuel is great but he doesn't communicate all the options on how to get to the property well. There is an option he doesn't list initially which is to drive to the island and take a private local boat to the property. Figuring that out was a needlessly painful process. Also for that option expect to pay 300 to 350,000 COP each way which adds significantly to the cost of staying here. One last thing: Even though there are multiple photos of a catamaran... they don't let you use it which I was very disappointed with.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very comfortable and private. So relaxing. We paid extra for Lenni to prepare meals. A real treat. We loved the feel of being on our own private island
Cons: It was expensive to get to and from Cartagena to the island but there was just three of us. With more people it would be cheaper.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! The location, the house, the experience, but the best things are the beach and Manuel and his family. They are caring, professional, honest, and fun. My family and I had a wonderful time. The surroundings are just rich of life. I will recommend this place to everyone who wants to experience the beautiful life of a paradise in Colombia.

7.9 Good
Pros: Great location right on the beach
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The best spot on the playa Blanca for chilling. Delicious food and lovely staff. You live literally on the beach which is awesome
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely breakfast, stunning location, friendly staff. Bathroom was kept super clean. Felt so relaxed we hardly left- we stayed for 3 nights and recommend staying this long if you can!
Cons: It would be great if there were more food options for vegetarians! :) Playa Blanca is suffering a bit from over-tourism, there was plastic in the water which made us sad :( but if every guest picked up some as they left it could be fixed!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable beds, very nice and helpful staff. Wifi much more available than on other places on the beach (not working all the time but still available). Nice and clean room. Electricity and shower (once a day) available only in the evening but that's the standard on the island - unless you go to a hotel resort. The place was really cool, good vibes, nice relax area with hammocks and swings and generally pleasant altogether. Food and drinks for standard prices on the island (more expensive than in the city but this is normal here) and tasty. Loved their cocktails! Free sunbeds provided by the hostel. Card payments accepted (10% fee). Would stay again!
Cons: Sand everywhere!!! ...just kiddin, the place is great :-) Would love to come back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great stay for a beach resort...if people are expecting 5 star luxury then dont stay at a beach, but to get down to nature and the beach was excellent. A very relaxing bar area with a very courteous host.

Pros: The location is perfect, the acomodations are great, staff very friendly and helpful

8.2 Excellent (165 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Eco Hotel Los Erizos in Rosario Islands, you'll be convenient to Rosario Islands Oceanarium and Isla Grande Beach. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
7.9 Good
Pros: Lovely, secluded spot. The facilities were very basic but that's what we expected after reading previous reviews. It was all clean. The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed the food. We would recommend walking around some of the island as we found some great spots (although there really isn't much there)! If you want something more lively I would recommend staying on the main Isla Grande.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: The dock is nice when it is not crowded with day guests Lobster is good
Cons: The lot is one big mess. When you walk to the back it looks like a slum. There are walls surrected around the property, which makes it imposiible to walk around. All the equipment you can rent is very dirty and run down. Cleaning does not mean clean towels. Just making the bed. We had to ask several times a day to turn on electricity. Otherwise you have no wifi. Be prepared to wait very long if you order food for lunch or dinner. We had to wait more than 1h15 for 4 dishes on one occasion. It was never less than 45 mins.
7.5 Good
Pros: It's an eco hotel so don't expect a whole lot of luxury. Our toiletseat was broken, the bed was a bit sturdy but that doesn't really matter if you'd seen the sunset and ate at their place. The food was great and delicious!
7.5 Good
Cons: Not really a beach. More like a dock . Lot's of rapid boats where you can swim so very dangerous. The way from cartagena by boat was so dangerous on the boat .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a beautiful place where it is possible to do different water activities. The guys that work there are amazing people.
Cons: The only thing that we didn't like was that the yachts parked there and put loud music.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very simple but secluded place. Don’t expect luxury but rather simple, close to nature with delicious food. Try the Roballo! Because of the small nature it felt very safe to leave your belongings unattended.
Cons: Fairly expensive drinks
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very chilled and relaxed place Very nice staff Excellent food Very nice beach Clean rooms Comfortable beds
7.9 Good
Pros: Relaxing atmosphere. Nice staff. You hear the Sea in bed . After a few days you're totally relaxed and had good sleeps
Cons: Big boats / yachts from locals come in the weekend for diner / lobster

Pros: Staff is chery helpfull, the guy calles elvis gave me the googles for free one day. And the hostel food was cheaper than the rest of them.
Cons: Not much really.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very close to sea
Cons: Nothing
6.7 Good
Pros: V3ry nice staff!
Cons: Not a good bathroom situation but the ocean is right infront
9.2 Excellent
Pros: At the very end of the beach :-) this is a perfect spot for detoxing Great host, friendly people and everything you need (water, food, a bed, electricity) Overall it was perfect!
Cons: Very loud over night as a generator is producing energy. At the very end of the beach - a long walk or ~5000 pp for a boat extra
5.4 Okay
Pros: La playa.
Cons: The bed sheets were dirty and the bed frame only had 4 boards holding up the mattress which made sleeping extremely uncomfortable.
7.1 Good
Pros: Location is fantastic. Right on the beach but far from the busy part.
Cons: No WiFi, no electricity at all during the day (only between 6pm-6am). Drinks and food are pretty expensive (although in line with what the rest of the island charge..) manual flushing system in the bathroom too which is unpleasant.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Elvis was fantastic. Catered to all our needs, no matter how big or small. Nice clean Spot on the beach.
7.5 Good
Pros: Super friendly and helpful staff and beautiful location, at the end of playa Blanca so removed from the touristic area!
Cons: No WiFi and the bathroom facilities were very basic.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very clean place, nice beach, using umbrellas included. Tasty breakfast. The owner speaks english a little.
Cons: Almost the last hostel on the beach - be prapare for 2km walk from The parking. But thanks to that less crowded. On Sunday lots of boats nearby and smell of petrol. Only one hammock on the balcony
Ecohotel Hector - Barú - Beach

8.1 Excellent (352 reviews)
Overview Reviews
With a stay at EcoHotel Hector in Cartagena, you'll be a 1-minute drive from Blanca Beach and 6 minutes from National Aviary of Colombia. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge (available 24 hours).
6.3 Good
Pros: Steps to the water. Nice lounge chairs.
Cons: Very rustic which is fine. Shower was a pvc pipe and it shut off after a few minutes. Toilet was a self flush toilet. It was very noisy between 10-5pm due to music being blasted from all directions. And hammering next door. Crowds do not leave until 5, I read 3. The room itself is basic which is fine. Locked with a small padlock. You can hear what’s going on in every other room. It just wasn’t as peaceful as i had hoped. But it literally is steps away from crystal blue water. I would not book anything through the hotel. I was told I’d have transport to the Rosario islands where I could snorkel at my leisure and walk along beaches at no extra cost. I was also told I’d be picked up at 9. By 10:30 I was picked up and found out I was on a tour and had to snorkel a dead reef for 35,000 copas or stay on the boat. Then I was told at the end I didn’t pay for the tour I never wanted. I told them I paid hector what he said was the cost and to work it out with him. The guide seemed sketchy though so maybe he was just trying to squeeze more money out of me. One of the worst days I spent on vacation. Make sure if you do book with hector you get ALL the details AND a receipt.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Not too crowded.
7.1 Good
Pros: Like all the accommodation in the area, it’s located directly on the beach. The room is small and very basic; a bed and a fan, but we fell asleep listening to the waves and woke up to an ocean view from our patio. Check out was 12 pm but Hector kept our luggage and let us hang out and use the beach chairs until we left at 4:30.
Cons: It’s at the end of the beach so a long walk if you choose to arrive by moto taxi.
7.0 Good
Pros: Location - 30 minutes by foot from the crowded beach.
Cons: Only 5 liters water per person for bath, staff do not speak English
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect. Away from the big crowds right at the start of Playa Blanca as it's the second last accommodation on the beach to the right, bit of a walk (even with big backpacks but worth it). the staff very chill, they provide a kayak to use for free and a float bed thing for the sea. 8 sun beds just like a metre it 2 from beach. The hostel is Max 6 metres from the water which is great. They have WiFi at certain times during the day. Which is quick enough also. Just ask the guy to turn on WiFi. I think they try conserve most energy because they are run on solar panels so no need for electricity to be on full time. Water for shower is normal temp, not hot or anything. But that was a good thing because you'll be roasting hot from the general outside temperature anyway so it's a good way to cool down. All in all I'd definitely recommend it . They provide mosquito nets and room very clean and didn't see one bug at all in room.
Cons: Not that I didn't like it but just giving a few points that others might say. Yes it's a bit of walk to get there if you've got a bus to Playa Blanca. But on the grand scheme of things your away from all the craziness down the other end of the beach. There's only a small bit of water for a shower but it's the same in every hostel I'd say. The place is very isolated for getting running water to or anything. But that makes it kind of cool. Electricity in rooms only after 7pm or so when sun goes down. But it's necessary because they run on solar energy which is kinda cool.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Good location far down the beach away from the busiest areas (it is a good 30 minute walk from the car park so bear that in mind) and the sea here is really nice and free from rocks. Free kayak for guests to use. Shower of sorts (they give you a few litres attached to a shower head and once it's gone it's gone, but it was enough for me to shower & wash my hair fine). Room was nice and airy, with a fan and big mozzie net over the bed, although there were no mozzies in the room. Sun loungers on the beach and up on the balcony which are free for guests. Very clean.
Cons: Nothing really, it was really good given the very basic conditions (no running water, limited electricity) on the whole of Playa Blanca. Food was a little expensive compared to the restaurants nearby.
7.5 Good
Pros: It's straight on the beach and the staff is friendly and helpful.
Cons: The place is in the middle of nowhere. You have to use boat or take a taxi and walk 30-40 minutes on the beach. There is no wifi and not enough running water for shower. And of course the water is cold.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The bedding is very clean, there is a mosquito net which kind of helps. The employees are very helpful, but only speak Spanish. The Location is perfect, directly at the beach. Sunbeds are available for free. It's pretty quiet, unless someone plays some music.
Cons: There is only a small amount of water available. If you are a woman, don't expect to wash your hair during your stay. There are also no towels. The breakfast is really tiny, even for a woman. You can buy some additional food from the merchants walking along the beach. There is no milk for coffee. The next supermarket is... I don't know where....
Ecohotel Arte y Aventura - Isla Grande del Rosario - Building

Located in Isla Grande, Ecohotel Arte y Aventura offers a garden. Featuring a concierge service, this property also welcomes guests with a restaurant, a water park and a terrace. The hostel features family rooms. Guests at the hostel can enjoy an American breakfast. The area is popular for hiking and cycling, and bike hire is available at Ecohotel Arte y Aventura. Cartagena de Indias is 41 km from the accommodation, while Baru is 1.7 km away. The nearest airport is Rafael Núñez International Airport, 45 km from Ecohotel Arte y Aventura.
7.1 Good
Pros: Location is perfect: 5 min walk from a nice beach, playa libre, very quiet and mangrove on the other site. Town is 15 min nice walk, but 2 casa with restaurants, bbq fish on the beach for lunch and a little shop with vegetables (you can use the kitchen here) nearby. Nice breakfast, helpfull owners, electricity all night so the little ventilors worked, a hammack in front of your door! Take the boot with Mary cartagena and you will be dropped 5 min walk from the hotel, take enough money.
Cons: The matrasses are a bit old (soft), there are mosquito nets but with holes and one with a big gap. We were alone, but the rooms are open below the roof, so I don't know if you have all privacy if it is fully booked. The price is relative expensive for the quality if you compare it with other places in Colombia, however everything is a bit more expensive on the eiland. If you keep that in mind and if you want a nice place on a location close to the best beach with electricity and kitchen, but with a simple bucket shower, and friendly owners (English speaking)...it definitely is a recommended option.
7.9 Good
Pros: Very nice and helpful staff. Great food cooked by the owner. Great breakfast (not included). Not far from the main beach. Very clean room.
Cons: A bit expensive for what it is, very basic amenities as it is a ecohostel.
5.4 Okay
Pros: The host family was friendly
Cons: 1. Comparing to other eco-hostels it has very relative 'walls'. Basically, the below part of the wall is fine, but the top made with wooden sticks. And that means that all neighbors can hear each other. And literally, everything going outside in a radius of 100-300 meters. 2. To take a shower you have to use a bowl and bucket. And we were asked to use just one bucket per day. I can understand this limitation as the fresh water is delivering once or twice per month on the island. However, it's 21st century. And there are a lot of desalination devices for sale. Or methodologies how to build a micro desalination station in house. 3. The breakfast was very basic. And we tried dinner just once. And it's was not tasty. 4. To charge devices you have to ask owners about it. Which is not a trouble. However, again, nowadays solar panels can fix this issue. Especially in a place where are so many sunny days per year. Or the generator could be the solution as well.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Carlos and Viviana were wonderful hosts. I got sick whilst I was staying there and Carlos was kind enough to go into town and source the medication I needed. Nothing was too much for them!
Cons: A little advice to other guests, bring a big 4/5 litre bottle of water with you as there is no fresh water available only small bottles!
6.3 Good
Pros: Beautiful island and easily located. Cheapest option in stunning Isla grande
Cons: Very expensive. Staff were not always so friendly but helpful.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Nice staff, really helpful with showing everything around (speaking in English). Also, they helped us to order our boat back. Really recommend this place
Cons: There is no water in house (it is only stored in buckets), but it is understandable, since it is like that in the whole island
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Such a lovely place and the owners are incredibly friendy and take care of everything for you. We had an amazing and relaxing stay away from the crowds in Cartagena.
7.9 Good
Pros: Lovely family
5.0 Okay
Cons: I’ve booked many hostels before and found this one to be the least straight forward in understanding what we were getting. The owner offered us food but it was very overpriced for what we got. If you want a real outdoor experience this may be for you, but personally I wouldn’t return.
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Agu Azul Beach Resort Hotel Boutique in Cartagena, you'll be 8.5 mi (13.7 km) from Blanca Beach and 29.9 mi (48.1 km) from Jaime Moron Stadium. Featured amenities include a business center and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is provided for a surcharge during limited hours.
6.7 Good
Pros: Great location and the beach! Nice cozy house
Cons: Very slow service. It is ok to wait for the food but when you get bottle of water after three times asking and 45 mins -it is too much for such expensive price per night. I definitely think hotel is overpriced.
6.7 Good
Pros: Really beautiful hotel. One staff member and the cleaning ladies were very nice and caring. Beautiful, very lonely beach (even private in the mornings and evenings when the tour participants are gone). Overall very beautiful hotel with very beautiful rooms.
Cons: When we were planning to go there, there was no chance to get in contact with the hotel (mail or telephone) in order to pick us up which then led us to do it by ourselves (land & sea) and that turned out extremely stressful, expensive and due to high Sea even dangerous. When we arrived completely soaked wet they told us that the person with this number is currently on Holiday... Overall, the staff was mostly not attentive. If you order food, you’re lucky if you get the entire meal and not just parts of it. Food is quite expensive as the hotel is the ONLY thing on the island. Hence, prices are high and there’s nothing to do a which is great if you feel like it.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: The staff is nice, not the manager though.
Cons: This place was horrible. The adds on booking.com and Google are not true and a couple of peaceful days there became a complete nightmare. We booked this place initially because it was advertised as having a "private beach" at the hotel and so we thought it would be the perfect place to enjoy a nice and relaxing weekend. Unfortunately, there is nothing private about the beach, or the hotel for that matter. Around 9:00 - 10:00am, excursion boats from EVERYWHERE around the hotel appeared and stopped at the beach. We had about 20 excursion boats come to the "private" beach with VERY LOUD music, drunk tourists, and loads of kids screaming. The worst part of it all was that we (PAYING CUSTOMERS) couldn't even enjoy the facilities we paid for, like the swimming pool. Children on these tours (who, again, were NOT paying for the hotel and who were NOT guests) went straight to the swimming pool. It was so full and such a mess that we couldn't even read a book nearby, or swim. A REAL SHAME TO TREAT PEOPLE WHO PAY A LOT OF MONEY TO STAY THERE. Even worse, one boat full of drunk tourists stopped at the beach with extremely loud music, and bothering us. Given that this was meant to be a "private beach", we went and complained to the staff, only to have these tourists threatening us (actual death threats) and the men showing us their "intimate parts". Just horrible. At the end of the day, there is NO POINT in staying there. You pay the full price for nothing. You might as well stay somewhere else and go there during the day with one of those excursions boats, since the hotel allows anyone to be there and do whatever they want at the hotel the whole day. ADVICE TO THE MANAGEMENT - If people PAY (and this is an expensive hotel) to stay at your property, then the least you can do is honor what you promised (private beach), and not let EVERYONE who stops by the beach to use your facilities. This is not fair for those who pay.
7.9 Good
Pros: The owner was very hospitable and the hotel is on a beautiful beautiful beach. The rooms were spacious, particularly the suite on the first floor.
Cons: The hotel staff didn't do anything to keep out the day trippers who invaded all the hotel spaces and particularly the pool to the extent to which it was impossible to use during the day. The influx of boats also means that there was a permanent smell of gas-oil on the beach. The food wasn't very good either which was a shame.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The beach is espectacular and the room is very pleasant! I loved the pool as well. The drinks also are very good. The beach is worth the whole trip.
Cons: Property is not exclusive to hotel guests. The beach is invaded by all sorts of boats parking in the swimming areas. It would be great if the hotel could set aside "parking" space for these boats at one side of the beach to ensure safety and comfort of the guests enjoying the beach. The food seems overpriced for what it is. The dishes are rather basic but prices are triple of regular. Maybe it was the distance to the city which made them expensive. Vendors are allowed on the premises and you get constantly interrupted by them.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A wonderful place to stay a couple of days. Clean, great staff, good food, though a little pricey. The property has its own boat that for some extra can take you to nearby islands where you can find pristine beaches.
Cons: Between 10:30 and 15:00 hours tourists from Cartagena arriving by boats swarm the the beach.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Location and outside of the hotel are great
Cons: Rooms, food and quality of staff is poor. This hotel is very very overpriced. The price is 5 star but besides the location i dont see any star. Staff is friendly but totally unexperienced. They forget your orders all the time. People from the beach (no guests) go swim in the hotel pool and this is allowed!!
Hostal El Personaje - Barú - Bedroom

8.0 Excellent (113 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Hostal El Personaje is located in Barú Beach and offers a terrace with hammocks on the beach to enjoy the stunning Caribbean Sea view. Each wooden room here will provide you with a functional decoration. At Hostal El Personaje you will find a 24-hour front desk, tour desk and you can arrange activities such as snorkelling. The property is about 1 hour’s drive from Cartagena de Indias city centre and about 90 minutes’ drive from Rafael Núñez International Airport.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staff was excellent, kind and carful. There is not private bathroom or running shower but I think is the same on the rest of the hostel at Baru. Overall the experience was good
Cons: The gasoline smell on the mornings. I think there is a gasoline refill near to the hostel
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The owner gave us much information about do's & dont's. He arranged some tours for us and we could rent his snorkel gear for free. He also speaks a little bit English.
Cons: It was a bit smelly sometimes because of the still water behind the hostal.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The beach is incredible. Jaime who runs the place was super helpful and nice. The rooms are great right on the beach such a beautiful place.
Cons: The hawkers can be a bit much but this is the quieter part of playa blanca.
6.7 Good
Pros: It was on the beach so you could hear the waves, easy access to long chairs and hammocks.
Cons: Loud generator overnight to have power (we were happy to have light and charge camera/phone) but also created white noise so one could still fall asleep. No running water meant having waves of smells coming from the bathroom when someone would flush. Not a lot of selection for food/restaurants, especially once day-trippers are one for the day, hard to find somewhere to have a bite. Also quite expensive and price hike for tourists (we bargained our lunch price down because it wasn’t advertised on a menu with prices). If we were to come back we’ed likely only do day trip. We stayed for the sunsets and both days got cloudy in the pm, so wasn’t worth it after all.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The view, is beautyfull, the hostel is verry small, 2 2persons little rooms with balkon sea view From the Side, Nice double bed and space to walk on one side. and one bick 4persons room with sea view in front and balcon They offer a verry Nice breakfast for 2, little 15.000 and big 20.000pos ( price 2019). Location direct at sea Nice Seats and table and relax bed’s, kajak avalible to hire. Lovely sea! Hostel Give feeling it just start, and will make it better step by step. Friendly helpfull staff. Spanish only. Lunch/ dinner you Will Find on the beach at more places.
Cons: Difficult to Find between all the hostels in one long line, we ask at the neighbour Where it was.. Shower is with a Bucket and cup, toilet is also with a big cup to flush. Clean and always Bucket ready to get for shower. When you go in sea,, don’t run in the sea, in front under water a some rocks, some are verry sharp.. if you walk 5/ 10m in the sea its rock free.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location, literally feet away from paradise. Lovely beach hut rooms.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We loved staying here. Its situated on the more quit part op playa blanca. If you chose to stay here, you dont have the crowds and hassle. The owners are very Nice.
Cons: Dont expect any luxury. The rooms are open and the sea wind comes in. Showers and toilet is with buckets but clean. We knew before so we had No problem with that at all.
6.7 Good
Cons: The map location was way off. I called in about the location and the staff was very unhelpful.
7.5 Good
Pros: The cosy and simple vibe, the small rooms made with wood like real shed. Bathroom enough clean and in common.
Cons: We were looking for a room with sea view. Did not matter anything else. From the site this place had several accommodations with “sea view”, So we booked the room for 2 (one large bed). The thing is that this room was not in front of the sea, but behind another room (the one with 2 large beds) and the sea was barely visible from the balcony. We had to pay an extra to have the other room (That luckily was available).
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Princesa del Mar Family Cabaña in Cartagena, you'll be a 1-minute drive from Blanca Beach and 5 minutes from National Aviary of Colombia. The front desk is staffed during limited hours.
6.7 Good
Pros: For Playa Blanca it might be the best location, since it’s at the end of the beach
Cons: The shower is next to the toilet, you’re allowed obe shower a day. Check out time on booking.com is not correct. Check out time on Booking.com says 12.00-12.30 the real check out time is before 11.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Sun, sea, beach! The staff and management are extremely friendly and went out of their way to cook us vegetarian food and help us shorten our stay when booking.com was being particularly unhelpful.
Cons: Having to ask to switch on the shower. Cabanas getting very sweaty at night. So best to sleep in the hammock or leave the door open.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good tratment and very friendly people I love the sea and for me the hotel is nice as well is comfortable and is more quiet ..maybe they could improve as to put more music in the day to make happy the place and that's all (Y)
Cons: They have to improve the breakfast and lunch for cheaper or offer a promo to get it that's it
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff is super kind and willing to help with all your needs. Food is good and better price that most places in Playa Blanca. Location is simply the best, hands down, it's literally the last construction in the beach so is less crowded than any other, and also has more space and less people trying to sell you stuff. 100% recommended!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Lovely colourful hostel , great room on top floor with balcony, chairs and hammock. Friendly staff. Fun plankton experience with hostel. Comfortable space to sit in and relax
Cons: The food wasn’t that great. Fish over cooked and all a bit plain. Small portions at breakfast. WiFi not very strong.
5.8 Okay
Pros: After complaining the owner came up to apologize and that was nice. The view from the room was great! The ocean water was warm.
Cons: Staff was rude. Asked about towels many times and was told non were available at the time. Lunch took 2 hours to receive it. Front desk person seemed annoyed any time you asked a question. Mosquito net had blood on it. Showers did not work properly.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great staff! Love the location, love the small cabins. The food is great. The most quiet part of the beach. Loved it!!! I really recommend it!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: ALexandra is a super host, always available to satisfy our needs. The location is a bit far away from playa blanca ( what I mean that is the last hostel on the beach) so for me was something exceptional, cause it s really a quite and calm area with less people compared to the others parts of the beach. I really suggest to go here also because the food prices are cheaper compared to others restaurants.
Cons: nada
7.1 Good
Pros: Beachfront view, staff
Cons: Basic servicies such as water and electricity are not provided permanently. I dont know if its a problem of Baru or specific hostel.
