The room was spacious and authentically decorated. There are numerous hot springs to choose from if you don't like the temp or atmosphere of one, there are at least 3 others to try. My favorite was the cave. There's also a lot of sites to see in the area and the rural town is very peaceful. There is a beer, ramen, and milk vending machine near the springs.
It wasn't entirely foreigner friendly. We like to use public transport and found this place hard to get to with large bags and no car. Had to take the bus and then walk down a large hill (and back up on our way out..). Also, staff isn't entirely fluent of English, though I can forgive them for that. Dinner is a separate fee and restaurants close early in the area (also, few options in walking distance).
I liked that the ryokan is next to a river,,, However You can’t really see the the river from the room unless You’re standing next to the window:( The river view was the main reason I choose this place from the photos on Booking.com
1# The 3,250¥ per person for the dinner was a big disappointment Other than the soups everything else that supposed to be hot was cold room temperature Mainly cheap or inexpensive food varieties. Soft drink bar wasn’t better either. I didn’t even bother to order any alcoholic beverages 2# Flat screen tv if You can just enjoy Japanese tv no other options. 3# The parking One side of the car will be next to the fence or the wall so not all passengers can exit at the same time (or MENDOXAI as they say in Japanese) 4# The price may seem cheap at first but after You ad the onsen charge taxes meals and perhaps the private onsen You’ll end up paying quite a bit for what is not worth in My opinion!!! Our room didn’t have bathtub or shower whatsoever I don’t know if all the rooms or some rooms don’t have one
The room was newly refurbished with extremely comfortable beds. Waking up to the rush of the river and beautiful scenery is also a huge plus. There was an excellent staff by the name of Mr Wang who helped us with some issues when we got into a minor accident. Was definitely a good stay!
Our initial booking indicated that there was a bathroom in the room - which we found out actually meant it was a public bath upon arrival. The booking website should state clearer as we would've only booked if it was a private bath/shower. We were lucky as it was down season and got upgraded to one with a private shower. Please also note that there are no English speaking staff in the hotel!
