10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a lovely, family run guest accommodation in a very convenient and picturesque location. The hotel is conveniently close to a freeway exit but hidden away at the end of a quiet road near a beautiful forest. The parking was easy and despite no English from the German hosts we were given a warm and comprehensive introduction to our accommodation. The room had a very functional kitchenette with much more equipment than many other places we have recently stayed in. There was a big TV, the wifi was excellent and the beds were comfortable. Overall a very good place for a few nights to explore the area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The forest and area was beautiful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This property is filled with beautiful flowers in bloom. The property had thought of everything we could have needed.
Cons: That we could only stay one night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner - Herr Hans -Peter Rissland spoke English very well. Herr Rissland and his wife have put gone over and above in providing the comforts of home. They made my wife and I feel very welcome and when the opportunity presents itself we would like to stay there again. The breakfast was superb and the boiled eggs were perfectly done.
Cons: Nothing

Gasthaus Zur Noll - Jena - Building
2
8.9 Excellent (646 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Gasthaus Zur Noll is situated in a historic building housed in a pretty alleyway in the heart of Jena. It offers free WiFi and an excellent traditional restaurant. Rooms are individually furnished and all include a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom. The rooms are located on 4 floors, and almost all are accessible by lift/elevator. Staff will also happily help with luggage. A rich and vitamin-packed breakfast buffet is offered each morning. The restaurant specialises in Thuringian cuisine as well as general German dishes and Italian starters. The manager is a keen runner and likes to share info on his favourite jogging routes in and around Jena.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It is in a very city centre. There are two buildings - an old one and a super new one. My room appeared to be in a new one on the top floor and had a balcony with a really great city view. They have a restaurant which is also for breakfast in the old building having a historical-like interior. They have free parking but it can not be booked. I was lucky enough to find a free place.
7.5 Good
Pros: Everything OK, nog problem. It's several old buildings put together, which makes it interesting, but it makes it sometimes difficult to find your way.
Cons: For dinner I was seated in the "Biergarten", which is, as you guessed in the garden, in a heatet tent. The comfort there could be better. The food was good, however.
6.3 Good
Pros: Breakfast are good!
Cons: We book a room in the old Hause but got a room in a modern "dry" room...nothing related with the atmosphere that we were looking for.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is an outstanding place.
Cons: They don't speak much English, but enough to get the key and pay.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: What a wonderful surprise this accommodation was, it is central to everything, friendly staff and good breakfast.
Cons: Parking was tricky, but once we found how to get in the car park all was good.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, quiet, clean.
Cons: I would appreciate a fridge in the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful big room situated in the heart of the city. It is a heritage building, the inside of both the hotel and the room display this in the way that they incorporate both the old structure of the place and its modern amenities.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: Hard to park car near hotel
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast buffet, was amongst the most impressive I've seen. Fresh vegetables and fruits, large selection bread, cheese, sausages, fine meats, patés, yoghurts,...
Cons: After due deliberation, I can honestly say there isn't a single topic I would mention here. Everything was just perfect. Keep up the good work.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This little gem is the. best kept secret in Germany, old world charm, culture, tradition cobble stone streets around the property are for walking traffic only. You walk the streets and it appears you stepped back in time 100 years
Cons: all was splendid.

Cons: Everything was perfect!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Comfort, cleanliness and location are very good, with good selection of food and beverages at the breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Cheap and comfortable no thrills, other than parking my car on a garage chain system. No air con but the windows did open, good breakfast nice area to discover.
Cons: Possibly the lack of air con but it didn't spoil our stay.
6.3 Good
Pros: Comfy bed, clean room. A perfect location in heart of Jena.
Cons: No trash bag for trash bin! No sandals for the room! No shampoo! Walls were awefully damaged. I got room service even though i had the do not disturb sign!?!?
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Ideally located near old town, good breakfast and helpful staff.
Cons: Modern and a bit too too minimalist for us (think concrete corridors) , but did the job. No air conditioning, so is very warm in summer. Our paid upgrade to a 'mountain view room' was disappointing- we could just about see the hills over the rooftops from the 4th Floor.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Due to my late check-in they set me an instructional e-mail, which I didn't read. So the reception man made sure to meet me in person despite he was going to leave an hour before my arrival.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was able to accommodate a late check in request, as I was arriving late in the city. Everything in the room was spotless clean. Very spacious and the bed was bigger than I thought it would be. The walk-in shower was a big plus!
7.5 Good
Pros: Good location
Cons: Noisy at night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so friendly and helpful! The bed, bathroom and shower, and location were all perfect. It was my second comeback and I will stay there again during my future visits to Jena.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location; restaurants and bars nearby; very friendly service
Cons: Quite smalll room and way up to the room is a challenge, but we were aware of it
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Small and cozy almost in the center. Bed was very comfortable (after I found extra pillow from the cabinet), the room was small but still spacey, the breakfast was delicious and Stefan besides being a very nice reception guy (no, I didn’t try the “Null”) also made a really great scrambled eggs, almost Art Deco! Hopefully my next trip to Jena comes soon!
Cons: The street down was busy quite early and woke me up. Not a biggie though. The shades were a bit unconventional to get UP but the scenes in the student flats across the street made it up....
Pension Artem Orbis - Jena - Bedroom
5
8.9 Excellent (131 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Jena, Pension Artem Orbis is a 1-minute drive from Saale Valley and 5 minutes from Stadtkirche St. Michael.
7.0 Good
Pros: Room service
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Easy for guests to receive their keys and access the rooms. Whole guest house was very clean; Rooms beautifully decorated, spacious and beds very comfortable! Good, quiet location and overall a great experience!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Artem Orbis is a gorgeous heritage building situated on a hill above Jena. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms clean and spacious. The boarding house offers free tea, coffee and seasonal fruit. It is located next to a pharmacy and just down the street from a supermarket. It is about a ten minute walk from the tram that goes into central Jena.
Cons: The wifi signal was very weak.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Simple late night check in, free fruits for breakfast
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is perfect, a quite, small old town part of Jena. Few rooms but very well decorated and clean. Highly recommended.
7.0 Good
Pros: The hotel is an old town hall in Jena's suburb Lobeda, and the historic building is really impressive, with old beams and a clock tower which chimes the time hourly. The furniture is also in old style, so the place is quite atmospheric. Teas provided in the kitchen are various and nice. Fridge, kettle, plates, cups, etc. provided. Spacious room with nice view over the town square and Saale valley. Separate toilet and bathroom are very convenient in morning hurry.
Cons: In the four days we stayed in the hotel, we haven't had a chance to see any personell at all. We got the key from the intercom (!) and that was it. The room wasn't cleaned in the whole time, and I'm not even speaking about towels and bedlinen, I mean that rubbish bin stayed untouched by anyone but us. The hotel is located away from the centre, and it turned out to be quite fine once we found that there's a direct tram route (2 EUR/person/ride). But we had to find that out by ourselves, as reception is virtually invisible. The first time we actually walked on foot from the bus station some 7 km away from the hotel. Wifi only worked in the hotel hall, while in the room you'd have to stand with your device as close to the door (and the hall therefore) as possible to catch some signal.

Pros: Great location with stunning views over Jena, clean and quiet rooms with big, very comfortable beds.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The location was perfect.
Cons: No coffee maker in the room and restaurant refused our request for coffee to go. For six mornings. And we like coffee first thing in the morning. There was one very uncomfortable chair in the room. The bathroom, including the toilet area is see through.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The view makes it all. Don't miss this place if you like views over the cities.
Cons: Minimalist. But this is not a problem.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great modern hotel in the centre of Jena with superb views.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Stylish interiors, magnificent view, perfect location - everything in walking distance
Cons: Nothin to complain about - except for that breakfast far too expensive (for my taste)

Pros: The view is amazing. Staff is very nice. Modern stile.
Cons: Shower is separated from the room by ground glass - that could be problem for someone.
7.5 Good
Pros: All the facilities in the room are well, and the room is well cleaned.
Cons: 1, It is not so quite inside of the room, as we could hear people in the corridor, the footsteps above us. 2, I could not find anyone at the counter after 9:30 p.m. 3, Besides, I made a reservation in the restaurant at Scala’s official website, and I also got a response email. But when I arrived, the staff told me they didn’t get any information, and there was no table for me. And more importantly, they were not polite during our discussion.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: all perfect
Cons: nothing came to mind

6.8 Good
Pros: The hotel was nice. The location was very convenient for us. Having the little cafe Salu next door was convenient. Somehow there was a strange smell in the hallways and the arrangement with the WiFi codes was a hassle. Otherwise the rooms were clean, a bit plain and cold but fine for a short weekend trip and staff was very friendly.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast is quite simple. I prefer to have more dishes to start a long day.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice location, clean, friendly staff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was amazing. The hostel is located in a beautiful area, just a 10 minute walk to the center of town, planetarium, etc. The owner is there during his posted hours every day and he takes great pride in making sure you enjoy your stay. I speak no German and he spoke plenty of English, and went out of his way for me anytime I needed assistance, suggestions, etc. The bathrooms are the cleanest I have ever seen in a hostel. They have a cleaning crew come every day to do a thorough cleaning of the entire place. Breakfast was a steal at $6 euro and had a fresh buffet of meats, cheeses, vegetables, yogurts, breads, coffee, orange juice, etc. The best part? The rooms. The hostel is own the 3rd floor and have huge windows with gorgeous views. When I walked into mine, it took my breath away. Sweeping views of the rooftops, beautiful skyline with old historic buildings and their tall tower all against a backdrop of unbelievably gorgeous green hills and mountains. If you make a reservation, call and request room 12. It is the corner room and has the best view in the place. If you want your own private room, it's only $10 euro more ($35/night). The only 2 drawbacks are that the checkin hours are limited so you have to call 24 hours in advance if you are arriving after 9. Basically, there is not round the clock staff. 2nd, there really is no common area to socialize other than the little entry way lobby. It would have been nice to be able to talk and chat in the darling dining room. The kitchen is small with no freezer but not a necessity. There is a fridge and everything you need for a small little hostel like this one. It was clean, quiet, well run. I've stayed in my share of hostels and I would highly recommend Alpha One Hostel in Jena.
Cons: See above. Common meeting area, better check in hours.
6.3 Good
Cons: Our room was super cold I had to sleep with wool jumpers. The heater wasn't heating well in our room which I found not responsible.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Everything was very clean, including the bathrooms. I especially liked that there were three bathrooms total (all with showers and windows) on each floor so that there wasn't any crowding in the mornings or evenings. My roommate was very friendly; the quality of the people staying here is high. It's about a 10 minute walk to the nearest supermarket which isn't too bad. Jena West (train station) is 15-20 minutes walking distance (and it's a nice, quiet walk) - or you can walk (5-10 minutes) to nearest tram stop (Ernst-Abbe-Platz) and ride the tram to Jena Paradies (the other main station) in two minutes.
Cons: The only thing that bothered me: in my room (1st floor, room 2) there was a strange, unidentifiable smell. Luckily the room also had many tall windows so I could air out the room, but then the smell would come back once they were closed again. It didn't bother me too much in the end, but I just wanted to point it out. The staff were also nice but came across a little cold at times.
7.0 Good
Pros: Fine breakfast nothing more/less, bread, tomatoes, cheese and saussage. Also cofee, juice, and cereals.
Cons: I stayed in a doorm, and was told they only cleaning when someone left the room. As i stayed with two long-term stay guests, it got pretty dirty three girls living together.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything are nice, clean and it is the best European hostel I've ever stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The best hostel which I ever seen. Very clean and warm, with nice and friendly staff!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly owner, bright and spacious room, calm neighborhood but close to the city center.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: room is actually nice and window view also
Cons: there was a problem with doors in between which are closed at night and if you came out without a key you will get locked in doors for long long hours. plus had to wait long time for check-in the admin was away at check-in time

Thankfully during the heatwave the rooms had a really good air-conditioning system, as we were on the top (Loft) level. The bathroom had a shower over the bath which may not suit all. Pool towels are in your rooms, so no need to ask for them. The outdoor pool was super, with outdoor shower. My 17 year old son used the Sauna and indoor pool. Breakfast buffet was lovely, unrushed, with plenty of choice, too much to mention here, and freshly squeezed juice, fresh coffee and huge tea selection. Plenty of staff on hand who are constantly clearing away and happy to help. We had the same table to eat at every day, which was nice as you had no stress of trying to find an empty table at mealtimes. This table is yours, no matter what eating arrangements you have. Two lifts are in the hotel and it is easy to find your way around.
Cons: No real dislikes...if you weren't all inclusive it was expensive to add this on; we were quoted 28euros/pp for 3 hours, between 6-9pm (although 14 and under go free), so we instead opted for a la carte when we ate in, the food being really good. We are not big eaters or drinkers, so others may find the all-in option more appealing. You do need a car as the hotel is by the main motorway about 20 mins out of Jena, and, although traffic noise is constant, it didn't bother us at night as the windows were closed and air-con on.
6.3 Good
Pros: The bed was comfy. The room was quiet as long as the window stayed shut.
Cons: The Hotel is directly located next to the highway. The hotel gives the impression of being a wellness hotel but the wellness area isn't very big. The dining area is very open, large and loud.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: It's a nice hotel with free parking, the room was spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable.
Cons: It was a bit cold in the room, even with the radiator on max and given the fact that it was -8 degrees outside, the duvet could have been a bit thicker. The internet was bad - it was slow when connected, but it often kept disconnecting.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location is perfect. Bus stop and train station is just around the corner. Place is quiet.
Cons: Poor wi-fi signal. When there's more guests staying in the hotel it's almost impossible to connect. My windows were facing the street and the noise from traffic was quite heavy most of the time.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: very kind staff, excellent breakfast, room all O.K. (much space, clean, all working) location is excellent, 5 min walk to Goethe-Gallerie, 10 min walk to historical centre
Cons: Internet does not reach the room (!), but in the breakfast room it works excellent. Beds (mattress) are a little too smooth, we did not like the traditional type of pillows.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a very charming little place that has a classic feel to it. Not a big hotel, it's a small bed-and-breakfast with its own personality. The location is very good, walking distance from the Jena city center and also to Jena West rail station. One thing which I thought was amusing was that instead of one unified bathroom, the toilet and the shower are in two separate rooms, which is usual in Russia and probably reflects the East German history of this place.
Cons: The reception is only staffed until 18:00 (6:00 PM) and you need to receive an e-mail with the code to unlock your key from the key lockers if you're arriving after that. The view out the window is on a street that should be nice, but the building across the street is covered in political graffiti (sadly, this seems to be a problem in Jena in general).

10.0 Excellent
Pros: I stayed 1 night here in Jena as I wanted to visit the Napolean Battle field site which is not far away. It is a beautiful old building with a very good restaurant , and they have their own beer as well. The staff were very good and speak English. It is about 1.5. Km from the station so a taxi is required to get there ( I walked ) it is not in the centre of Jena. I would stay there again for sure

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Extremely helpful stuff. Very tasty breakfast,I'm always not happy about it,but here it's amazing.
Cons: No slippers, robe. If you mention it's as SPA,these stuff should be in each room. Very expensive parking.Could be cleaner.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is perfectly located in Jena. We were just there overnight this time but enjoyed our stay. Would definitely stay there again.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The hotel itself is very beautiful and the rooms are also big with comfortable beds. The panorama elevator is a nice addition- The breakfast was very good with very friendly staff all around.
Cons: Nothing to complain about
7.0 Good
Pros: All in all everything is ok.
Cons: Charging 3 € for sauna seems somehow strange. Wouldn't change a lot for the hotel to not ask for this fee but would make customers feel better. Coffee is ok but in the whole hotel there is no real good coffee machine. Still the "typical" standard MWF coffee. Just two minor points but would make a difference.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: The shower wasn't working very well. It was really difficult to set the temperature of the water and the stream wasn't strong enough.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was a well-run comfortable hotel. No problems or hassles.
Cons: There is somewhat strange layout with the reception on the ground floor and the lobby on the third. Still, once one is familiar with this, it is not a major issue.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very central, friendly and welcoming staff. Good shopping mall attached. Reasonably well equipped Gym with a lovely view. Car park has an interesting lift entrance so don’t bring a big SUV unless you’ve got good nerves and parking sensors/camera
Cons: A little tired decor, mostly related to furniture and decor of communal areas.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff is friendly and always helpful. They spoke good English and helped me with my beginner's German. The location is superb, close to excellent shops and within easy walking distance to the main tourist sites and restaurants, and right beside the university. My local colleagues told me it is the best (though most expensive) hotel in Jena. I loved the balcony in my room. I stayed on business for two weeks, and it was worth paying a little extra for the quiet and comfort, which enabled me to work efficiently at the large desk in my room when I needed to do so. I would come back to this hotel for sure.
Cons: The beds for solo travellers are smaller and a bit less comfortable than hotel beds in North America, but they are good compared to other hotel beds I've experienced in Europe.
Hotel Haus im Sack - Jena
3
8.5 Excellent (140 reviews)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I used to live in Jena, so I am very familiar with the city. The hotel is in a great location and is a lovely spot for a drink or even dinner. It's more like a pension/guest house, which is quite cozy. Be aware that there isn't an elevator in case you have mobility issues. I also didn't have the best internet in my room, which was all the way in the very top of the Haus. This was not a major issue for me, even though I was traveling for work, and I was fully prepared for such an eventuality. Altogether, I would definitely recommend this lovely spot-which would be even better in the later spring and summer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Central, nice old structure, beautiful old fashioned interior
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Large rooms, very clean. Newly renovated so immaculate condition. Traditional German medieval style building. Very authentic.
Cons: No parking, although a large parking lot closeby with free parking for electric cars
6.3 Good
Cons: I stayed 2 nights at the hotel. When I arrived, the room was very cold because the heating system was not switched on. Even though I immediately switched on it, the room stayed very cold during the first night. In the second night the temperature went up since I left the heating system on the whole day. It doesn't mean that the system is out of order, but they don't come to the idea that guests will be frozen to the bones if the heating system is not switched on in advance, which is a really bad point. In addition, my room stank of insect spray(?) strongly, which was very difficult for me to bear.
4.5 Okay
Cons: I attended a conference in Jena and stayed at this hotel. When I arrived I was only given the key and shown the room. I did not get any information about the hotel and the lady who welcomed me did not speak much if any English. On the second evening, I arrived at the hotel around midnight and the hotel was closed. There was a waiter at the restaurant across the street and pointed to a small back door. I was able to open the door both there was a second one inside that I could not open. I asked the waiter if he could help me (through sign language as he also did not speak English) and he couldn’t open it either. So, I had no choice than to try to find a hotel with an open reception in the city. I was lucky to find after 30-40 minutes the Ibis hotel and even though it was fully booked the receptionists called to other hotels for me and finally found a room to sleep (140 euro suite). Walking for an hour, alone, in the middle of the night in a city I do not know was scary. Next day I explained the situation to the receptionist who also had a limited English skills and the main answer I got was that she believes me but she cannot imagine that the door was locked. She also assured me that she will talk with the manager of the hotel and come back to me. This didn’t happen. When I checked out the next day the bill was prepared with the full price and no further explanations. Now that I looked again on the bill, I noticed that they also charged me two times for the breakfast even though I only had breakfast on the first day. On the hotel profile page it says that they speak English and German, this is not true.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: A nice room for the price, and very nice workers.
Cons: Unfortunately the Internet barely found my room.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The room was bigger than I expected and well furnished. The location was excellent, only 2 minutes away from the centre of Jena. The bed was comfortable and was remade everyday. It was helpful to be able to pick up the key from a safe box and give myself access to my room.
Cons: Additional sachets of shower gel, shampoo and coffee on a daily basis is my only comment.
5.5 Okay
Cons: The beds didnt have any bed sheets. It was said that the matress cover itself if the bedsheet. And they have a very dark and dingy entrance from some back door with very poorly lit stair case (refer the images)
6.8 Good
Pros: Strategic location. Very close to the center and in walking distance to the train station, and the hotel was clean.
Cons: I didn't like it that it almost seemed impossible for me to check-in as I had arrived after 18:00 pm when the person responsible had already closed for the day. There is a key box with a code that one who has checked in late can use to get into the hotel. I didn't have this code and when I called the emergency number on the key-box I was given one by a lady but I could not go about it. In the end, the lady had to come herself to help. When she came she was very angry, got out the key and dumped in my hand accompanied by some harsh words and she left. But how could it be my fault yet I had informed earlier that I'll be having a late check-in and I was not given the code let alone proper instructions on how to go about the code box?????
