Good value. It's quite inexpensive yet good location and pretty decent hotel all in all.

Breakfast buffet looked more like a charity canteen. Better to get room only and have breakfast anywhere outside. Gets a bit too noisy during rush hour cos of honking cars and buses.

The best about this hotel is its location. The hotel is located right in the centre of the city, at the beginning of the "Kazan Arbat" - the Bauman street and next to the metro station and various bus/trolleybus stops. The hotel is indicated in the tourist maps of the city, so it is easy to find for taxi drivers. The view from the hotel windows, both in the direction of the Bauman street and in that of the Grand Hotel Kazan is really nice. There are numerous shops and restaurants around the hotel. Right next to it, there is a mall "Koltso" with a supermarket which is open till 22.00. The hotel also hosts a tourist office where it is possible to book tours in Kazan and the region. I booked a tour to the Raifa monastery and it was well organized and interesting. I appreciated that although I had booked the hotel for the whole night of my arrival, the lady at the reception charged me only half a night, because I arrived at 4 am.

The hotel was probably construed during the Soviet period and it still has a Soviet atmosphere. The rooms have been partly renovated but the furniture is rather old. I had a single room, which was not bad. There was a fridge, which however did not work (well, it probably considered itself a heater). There was also a safe but it was locked and did not work either. The walls are thin. I was unlucky with neighbours. On one night, my neighbours, together with other guests, were having a party in the "balcony" at the side of the hotel which lasted till 1 am. They shouted in the corridor, had their children run there, slammed the doors. Awful and completely disrespectful. Not the fault of the hotel, of course. Breakfast was interesting - chicken, stuffed paprika with minced meat, rice...that is quite unusual. But they also had bread, pancakes (with meat and with jam) and some sweets. During the weekdays, the breakfast room was not crowded. On Sunday, however, I spent more than 30 (!) minutes in the queue waiting for food and than looking for a table. I asked the lady at the reception to call the taxi to the airport for me. She told me the price would be 400-500 rubbles. The taxi driver asked for 900 rubbles telling me moreover that he had no money to give me back for 1000 rubbles.
